Passage 1
(2026·全国一卷)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Emily Sanders, a 25-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, set out on December 23rd with high hopes of reaching Toronto to meet her boyfriend for Christmas. Although she had heard warnings about an approaching snowstorm, she didn't give it much thought. She assumed that much like in Michigan, police would simply detour(使绕道)traffic around any closed sections of the highway. But that didn't happen. As the snow came down more and more heavily, Emily was directed off the highway. She drove on for a while and found herself on an unfamiliar road toward a Canadian town.
The blinding whiteout made driving nearly impossible. At one point, Emily's car got stuck. After a struggle, she managed to free the vehicle and continued inching along the snow-covered road. As night fell, panic set in. While Emily was driving on a narrow stretch of road, her car slid into a ditch(沟).
She tried to call for help but found no signal on her phone. Seeing no hope of immediate rescue, Emily decided to spend the night in her car. She wrapped herself in a blanket, waiting for morning. To stay warm, she ran her engine for a few minutes every now and then. Eventually, she fell asleep.
Emily awoke to a gentle knock on her car window. Standing outside were Daniel and his wife Rachel, who noticed the stranded(被困的)vehicle on their way home and stopped to see if they could help. When Emily rolled down the window, Rachel asked if she was okay and told her it was not safe to stay overnight in the car. With genuine warmth in her voice, Rachel said they could take Emily to a nearby cafe they knew. Grateful and relieved, Emily accepted the offer.
In the cafe, the couple bought Emily a hot chocolate and listened patiently as she explained her desperate situation: she was about a hundred miles from her destination, her car was completely stuck, and her entire holiday plan could be ruined.

Paragraph 1: Daniel and Rachel suggested that Emily continue her journey by train.
Paragraph 2: Three days later, Emily returned to get her car.
【答案】
Daniel and Rachel suggested that Emily continue her journey by train. Realizing the wisdom in their advice, Emily agreed without hesitation. The kind couple immediately drove her to the local station and even helped her purchase a ticket. Wrapped in their thick coats, Emily boarded the train, her heart filled with immense gratitude. Hours later, she finally arrived in Toronto. Walking onto the platform, she was instantly enveloped in her boyfriend’s tight embrace, tears of joy and relief welling up in her eyes as she recounted her perilous adventure and the heartwarming rescue by strangers.
Three days later, Emily returned to get her car. The fierce storm had completely passed, leaving the streets blanketed in sparkling white snow. With the assistance of local police and tow truck drivers, her vehicle was successfully pulled out of the ditch. Holding a small gift box, Emily visited Daniel and Rachel’s home to express her heartfelt thanks. They smiled warmly, insisting that helping others was simply what neighbors do. This unforgettable experience taught Emily a profound lesson: while reckless love can lead to danger, the unexpected kindness of strangers can melt the coldest winter.

Passage 2
(2026·全国二卷)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As far as I can remember, I’ve always been a night owl. Even in middle school I would stay up very late. I would feel completely at ease doing my homework in bed, with light music on. I found comfort in keeping myself awake when everyone else had gone to bed, and I loved the silence of the night. My parents urged me to get out of this so-called unhealthy habit, but their repeated requests fell on deaf ears.
Fast forward to my first year of college. I still loved the night and would stay up until unruly hours for no apparent reason, chatting online and watching videos. When I finally started to study, I would race through the assigned work, often well past midnight. My roommates would tell me to go to bed and get up early the following morning to do it instead. Get up early to do my homework? No way! I would never do that.
Then, one day last term, I did exactly that. Bent over my laptop while sitting on the bed in the corner of my room, I suddenly felt a pounding headache, and had to lie down. Unable to keep my eyes open, I decided I had no choice but to finish my homework the next morning. I woke up at 6am. Hardly had I written half a page when I felt a sharp pain in my chest.
At the school clinic, a doctor, with a serious expression on his face, handed me a medical report. “You’re 20, but your heart is 40!” he said. A cold wave went through me. I realized that years of living as a late-night person had turned my heart into an overworked engine.

Struck by the doctor’s warning, I knew I had to make a change.
Slowly but surely, my efforts to adjust to the new routine paid off.
【答案1】
Struck by the doctor’s warning, I knew I had to make a change. That very night, I initiated my battle against my deep-rooted habits. I forcibly switched off my laptop and phone at 10 p.m., placing them completely out of reach. However, my rebellious biological clock refused to cooperate. I tossed and turned in the darkness, the silence of the room amplifying my anxiety. The urge to grab my phone and drown in videos was overwhelmingly tempting. Just as my willpower was about to crumble, the doctor's stern voice and that terrifying sharp pain in my chest echoed in my mind, anchoring me back to reality. I squeezed my eyes shut, practicing deep breathing until exhaustion finally claimed me.
Slowly but surely, my efforts to adjust to the new routine paid off. The mornings, which used to be my greatest enemy, gradually transformed into a welcoming friend. Instead of racing through assignments with a foggy brain at midnight, I found myself tackling them with a clear and focused mind in the golden sunlight. Not only did the heavy burden on my chest vanish, but an unprecedented sense of vitality also flowed through my veins. When I proudly showed my parents my improved medical report during the holiday, their relieved smiles were my best reward. I finally realized that true comfort isn't found in the unruly hours of the night, but in the vibrant rhythm of a disciplined life.

Passage 3
(2026·浙江1月卷)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a regular Saturday morning, just like any other. I was driving my nine-year-old daughter, Emma, to her weekly swimming lesson. Recently, Emma had started seeing me as a true hero who could solve any problem fairly. “You always know what’s right, Dad,” she would say. We were talking about her class when I noticed a crowd up ahead and had to slow down.
People were gathered on the street, pointing and laughing. In the middle of it all was a large brown and white cow. It looked completely lost and terrified. Some kids were shouting nearby, which seemed to scare the animal even more. A strong feeling of anger rose inside me. These people were treating the poor creature’s fear as entertainment.
“Dad, that cow is scared.” Emma said softly from the back seat. “What would you do?” Her question was serious. She believed I would do the right thing. “Well,” I said, trying to sound confident for her, “I would calm it down and help it find its way home.” I explained that I knew a lot about cows. I spent my childhood on a farm, and now I even worked at a beef processing plant. I was sure my experience would impress Emma. After dropping off a very impressed Emma, I turned my car around. I felt it was my duty to go back and help.
When I returned, the scene was worse. I learned from a shop owner that the cow had been wandering for a while, knocking over a fruit stand and causing quite a bit of trouble. I took a slow, careful step towards the animal, speaking in a gentle voice. However, instead of calming down, the cow lowered its head and let out a threatening sound. It stared directly at me, full of hostility. My confidence faded, replaced by a sudden fear. This wasn’t going to be easy at all.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Just as I was about to turn and run, two police officers arrived on the scene. They stepped out of their patrol car calmly, holding a thick rope in hand. I hurried to share my childhood farm experience with them, and we made a quick plan to cooperate. One officer slowly circled the cow to distract it, keeping his movements gentle to avoid scaring it again. I seized the chance to approach from the side, whispering soft words like I used to do to calm the cows on my old farm. Little by little, the cow’s tense body relaxed, its threatening lowing faded, and it even blinked at me gently.
After we managed to secure the cow to a tree, we began to discuss what to do with it. Luckily, a farmer passing by recognized the cow immediately — it was his. He thanked us profusely, explaining that the cow had broken free from the fence early that morning and gone missing. When I picked up Emma after her lesson, I told her every detail of the rescue. Her face lit up with admiration: “Dad, you’re really my hero!” That day, I understood that heroism isn’t about being fearless, but about summoning courage to do what’s right even when scared.

Passage 1
(2025·全国一卷)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My wife and I wanted to share our new home with family and friends by hosting a small gathering in the early summer. She had prepared lots of snacks, while my job was to have the backyard in order.
There was plenty of space for the kids to run and play. There was just one thing I hadn’t counted on: My brother chose to bring his dog Toby, a 50-pound ball of fire. Though friendly, he could easily knock over my niece’s small boys and my six-month-old granddaughter. So, when my brother showed up, I asked him to watch Toby and keep him outside.
My plan was working out just fine. Toby was using up his energy by running back and forth in the backyard and giving the kids plenty of room. Unexpectedly, after supper, the weather changed. It started to rain and everyone went indoors.
It was an awkward moment. I didn’t want Toby to be running around in the house, and my brother wasn’t happy with driving home with a wet dog. Eventually, my brother decided to leave rather than force the issue.
A few days passed, and I hadn’t heard anything from my brother. I texted him and expressed wishes for him to come out again. His reply came as a surprise — a shock, actually: “Not a chance.” Clearly, he was unhappy over the way we had parted. After all, I had left him little choice. Well, he’ll get over it, I reasoned.
Two months passed. My wife suggested I get in touch with my brother, but I resisted, thinking he should call first. However, my conscience (良心) kept bothering me. I tried to put myself in my brother’s shoes. He was facing health issues and his wife of thirty-five years had passed away a few months earlier. Toby was his constant companion, the one who kept him going.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
I realized it was me who was at fault. I had been so focused on keeping the party under control that I failed to consider how important Toby was to my brother during this difficult time. My pride had kept me from reaching out, and now months had passed without a proper conversation. One evening, I picked up the phone and left him a voice message, apologizing for my behavior and asking if we could meet. To my relief, he called back the next day, and we agreed to get together soon.
With the biscuits my wife had made, I arrived at my brother’s door. He opened it with a surprised smile, and for a moment, neither of us spoke. Then we hugged — something we hadn’t done since before his wife passed away. We sat on the porch with Toby resting beside us, and I handed him the box of biscuits. “Thank you,” he said quietly. We talked for hours, laughing, remembering old times, and slowly rebuilding what had been lost. As I watched Toby gently rest his head on my brother’s leg, I knew we were finally on the path to healing.

Passage 2
(2025·全国二卷)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“What is your name? ” is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time. But for me, it was the first challenge I encountered as an international student in Ireland.
The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English. For native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name Qiuyu (秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them. Every time I gave a self-introduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still could not say it the way I did.
Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should continue correcting him or simply drop the matter. I feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all, I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn’t stop, the entire lecture would be ruined. “It’s okay, professor,” I shrugged (耸肩). The awkward moment ended with the class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
After that incident, I stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher.” Instead of correcting others when they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach spared me the discomfort of having to over-explain. However, I soon found that by doing so, I might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural identity.

In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name. Standing up, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. “My name, Qiuyu, combines the characters for autumn and rain in Chinese,” I began, my voice steady. “Autumn represents harvest and maturity, while rain symbolizes nourishment and growth. Together, they embody a time of abundance and renewal.” As I spoke, I noticed the rapt attention of my classmates, their eyes reflecting curiosity and respect. It was a moment of connection, a bridge built between cultures through the simple act of sharing my name.
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. They surrounded me, their questions pouring out like a stream. “What other names have beautiful meanings in Chinese?” “Can you teach us how to write our names in Chinese characters?” I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me. I took out a piece of paper and began to sketch out characters, explaining each stroke and its significance. Through this interaction, I realized that by embracing my cultural identity, I was not only preserving my heritage but also enriching the lives of those around me. It was a small yet meaningful step towards fostering cultural understanding and appreciation.

Passage 3
(2025·浙江1月卷)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Kevin was pretty bored. His mother was at work, and his father had been away on business. Therefore, he was left in the care of Mrs. Hill, an old lady who lived next door. His parents had raised the 12-year-old to be a good boy. He never got into trouble, though sometimes he wanted to do risky things. Mrs. Hill was asleep. Kevin sighed (叹息) and hoped something exciting would happen. Suddenly, a movement outside caught his eye.
Mrs. Hill’s front window faced Mr. and Mrs. Green’s house across the street. The couple had both gone to work, so it was strange that someone was over there. Kevin stared at the man at their front door. Suddenly, the man jumped through an open window into the house. With his heart in his mouth, Kevin grabbed Mrs. Hill’s home phone and called the police.
Thinking that the man might get away with whatever he wanted before the police arrived, Kevin decided to do something. He rushed out of Mrs. Hill’s house and crossed the street quickly. Grabbing a branch from a cut-down tree, he jumped in through the window. “Stop right there! You must leave right now!” he called out, holding the branch with both hands.
The man froze for a second, but when he saw the skinny boy he breathed a sigh of relief. “Hey, kid, put that down. It was my home. My parents used to live here and my father’s watch was here,” he explained, trying to lift a floorboard.
At that moment, the sounds of a police car echoed (回响) in the air. The man stood up in a panic, then ran through the house toward the window and jumped out. Kevin followed out and told the arriving police officers what had happened. They pursued and arrested the man.
Kevin went back to Mrs. Hill’s house. Somehow he wasn’t sure he had done the right thing. “What if he has told the truth?” he thought to himself. The man’s words sounded pretty convincing.

Paragraph 2: Kevin and Mr. Green took the watch they had found to the police station.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
When Mr. and Mrs. Green got home, Kevin went to talk to them. He explained how he had witnessed the strange man entering their house and how he was arrested. Mr. and Mrs. Green listened attentively, with a mixture of surprise and gratitude on their faces. Mrs. Green hugged Kevin, thanking him for his bravery. Mr. Green, however, looked thoughtful. He asked Kevin to describe the man in detail and then revealed that the man was indeed his younger brother, who had come to retrieve a watch their father had left behind. Kevin's eyes widened in shock.
Kevin and Mr. Green took the watch they had found to the police station. On the way, Mr. Green explained that the watch was a family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation. At the police station, they explained the situation to the officers, who were surprised but understanding. The man, who had been released after his identity was verified, was waiting outside. He smiled weakly at Kevin, who felt a mix of embarrassment and relief. Mr. Green handed over the watch to his brother with a pat on the back, and they all agreed to keep in touch. Kevin learned an important lesson that day: always verify the facts before taking action, but never hesitate to help those in need.

Passage 1
(2024·新课标I&II卷)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. "We made it," he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry."

【答案】
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. He looked at me in disbelief, asking me what to do. Flashing him another apologetic smile, I begged him for a delayed payment. “If I miss this last bus to Prague, I’ll be late for the conference which is so important that I can’t afford to miss it!” I explained. “May I have your phone number? I will call you and return the money I owe you. I promise I will keep my word or you keep my watch!” I added, handing him my watch as well as my business card. Gunter accepted my business card but rejected my watch. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to me. “Just keep your promise, Sir.” A feeling of gratitude washed over me as I heard his words. Giving him a firm handshake, I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the bus, and jumped onto it just before its departure.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. He picked me up at the bus station where he had dropped me off four days before. Beaming a warm smile at him, I gave him a big hug the moment I saw him. We chatted happily on the way to the airport. I told him that thanks to his generosity and timely help, everything had gone smoothly. When he stopped his taxi outside the airport, I paid him for the “double car ride”, back and forth from the airport to the bus station, together with a generous tip that he turned down. I also gave him an attractive souvenir I had bought at Prague, which he accepted with delight. We became good friends and kept in touch with each other regularly. I felt blessed to have such a warm-hearted friend like Gunter.

Passage 2
(2025·浙江1月卷)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. ” It’s just the beginning, “she thought.” I’ll come in last for sure. “
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word” mile. “Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. In the vast expanse of her school, a girl with poor directional skills struggled to navigate and often got lost. One day, during gym class, she observed a unique way to find her way - following the shadows of trees. As the sun cast its rays, the girl noticed how the shadows created patterns on the ground, guiding her path. She took a leap of faith and followed the shadows, surprising herself with each turn and stretch. Her efforts were noticed by the teacher, who praised her innovative thinking.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. She used the shadows to navigate the school hallways, find her classes, and even locate the school's various facilities. This newfound skill not only helped the girl navigate her school but also instilled in her a sense of confidence and adventure. She learned excitedly that with a little creativity and observation, any challenge could be overcome. And with each step she took, she left behind a legacy of inspiration for those who followed in her footsteps, knowing that even without a clear sense of direction, there's always a way to find one's way.

Passage 1
(25-26高三下·湖南·阶段检测)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头谱续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My best friend, Emily, and I had been inseparable since middle school. We shared everything — lunches, secrets, and dreams for the future. Yet as graduation approached, the mounting stress of exams and college applications began to take its toll on both of us. We studied side by side and promised to get through this together.
The turning point came after the midterm examinations. I had prepared for weeks — sacrificing sleep, skipping social gatherings — yet my score fell far below my expectation. Finally, on the other hand, received one of the highest grades in our class. She tried to be kind about it, never bragging or even mentioning her score. But somehow, that made things worse.
She came to me that afternoon with my favorite snacks. “It’s just one exam,” she said gently. “You’ll do better next time.” I nodded but could not bring myself to look at her. She attempted to lighten the mood with silly jokes, but every word felt like a reminder of the growing gap between us. Then she said, half-jokingly, “Come on, don’t be so negative. It’s not the end of the world.”
Something inside me broke. “Easy for you to say,” I erupted. “You’re not the one who failed.” The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them. Her face fell. She parted her lips to respond, but no words came. After a long, painful silence, she simply stood up and walked away without a word.
The following days were cold and heavy. We stopped sitting together at lunch. She found a new table, and I did the same. We passed each other in the hallways like strangers. I could tell she was hurting too, but pride kept us both frozen. The silence between us was not empty — it was loaded with guilt, pride, and everything we wished we could say.
It was not until our English teacher assigned us to work together on a final presentation that we were forced to confront each other. When I saw our names paired on the list, I felt a mix of dread and relief. Finally, there was no way out.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Silence fell upon us when we sat down to prepare at first. Neither of us spoke for what felt like an eternity. I kept my eyes fixed on the notebook, my fingers nervously twisting together. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Emily reach out and gently push a pen toward me — the same pen I had lent her years ago during a chemistry exam. That small gesture broke something inside me. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice trembling. She looked up, tears welling in her eyes. “Me too,” she said softly. Without another word, we pulled our chairs closer and began dividing the presentation slides. The ice finally melted away.
With the weight lifted off our shoulders, we threw ourselves into preparing the presentation. Dividing the work naturally, we soon found our old rhythm — she researched statistics while I designed the slides. Before long, we finished our own parts and discussed how to polish the presentation as a whole. Finally came the presentation day. Having exchanged an encouraging smile, we strode to the front with confidence. The applause that followed felt like a shared victory. It was then that I realized: True friendship isn’t about waiting for the other to apologize first — it’s about being the one brave enough to reach out.

Passage 2
(25-26高二下·江苏扬州·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Tom, a shy 17-year-old high school student, had long had trouble with social anxiety — he always avoided strangers and preferred being alone to having awkward conversations after class. Worried about his lack of social interaction, Tom’s parents often encouraged him to step out of his comfort zone to communicate with others, which could help him grow and learn more about others. Finally, Tom made a brave decision to volunteer at a community event for the elderly living alone, hoping to challenge himself in a meaningful way.
Arriving at the community center shortly before 9 a.m., Tom found a quiet yet warm atmosphere. The big hall was filled with gray-haired seniors: some read morning newspapers slowly, enjoying each word, while others stared out of large windows, a faint sense of loneliness in their eyes. An elderly lady named Mrs. Brown caught his attention right away. Sitting alone by the window, she held a slightly faded black-and-white photo in her shaking hands, with a soft, nostalgic (怀旧的) smile on her lips. Later, Tom learned from the organizer that Mrs. Brown had lived alone since her husband passed away ten years ago, and few people came to visit her.
Tom felt mixed emotions — sympathy for her loneliness, a wish to talk to her, and strong nervousness that made his throat feel tight. He took a few slow steps forward, then stopped, his hands tightly clenched (紧握) at his sides. Just as he hesitated, a kind female organizer in her forties approached gently and patted his shoulder. “Don’t worry,” she said softly. “These seniors have gone through a lot in life and often feel lonely. Sometimes all they need is someone to listen — your being here means more than you think.”
Encouraged by her words, Tom felt a rush of courage. He took a deep breath to calm his fast-beating heart, straightened his shoulders a little, and walked steadily toward Mrs. Brown. “Good morning, madam. I’m Tom, here to volunteer,” he introduced himself, his voice slightly trembling but clear. Pointing to the photo, he added nervously, “It looks very special. May I ask who is in it?”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Mrs. Brown looked up and started sharing the stories. She told him that the photo was taken with her husband on their wedding day many years ago. She recalled their happy days traveling together and the little joys in daily life. Though her voice was weak, it was full of warmth. Tom did not interrupt but nodded from time to time, showing his sincere attention. He even shared his own school life with her, talking about his studies and hobbies. For the first time, Tom did not feel nervous when talking to a stranger. They talked delightfully, unaware of hours slipping by.
When it was time to leave, Tom stood up and stared at Mrs. Brown. “I’ll come to see you more often,” Tom promised, smiling warmly. Mrs. Brown held his hand tightly, with tears of gratitude in her eyes. She thanked him for spending the time with her and said he had brought her great happiness. On his way home, Tom felt light-hearted and proud. He realized that kindness was not about doing something great, but about giving care and company from the heart. From that day on, Tom became more outgoing and confident.

Bloom at Your Own Pace
Exam papers were handed out one after another and landed quietly on every desk. Staring at the red scores on my paper, I knew I failed to get the top rank. Low whispers spread around me as the teacher read out everyone’s rankings slowly. Disappointment welled up inside me, and I felt my dream of entering my ideal university gradually run away.
I had long been pushing myself hard just to achieve high rankings. I rose early in the morning and stayed up late studying every day, arranging all my time tightly for different school subjects. I once firmly believed that taking first place constantly would prepare me for a better future. This belief once motivated me greatly, yet endless pressure soon tired me out. I often felt eye discomfort and mental tiredness, and the top position always seemed impossible to reach.
Feeling low, I left the classroom alone. The air was fresh with the smell of rain. I stopped at a quiet little garden beside the library, which I had never taken time to visit before.
An elderly gardener was busy tending flowers and watering plants with great care. Only a handful of flowers were in bloom (开花) among green leaves. I couldn’t help questioning whether all his efforts were worthwhile.
Sensing my confusion, the old man smiled and began to chat with me. He told me that every flower has its own flowering time. Some blossom early, while others need more time to grow. As long as they get enough sunshine, water and proper care, they will surely bloom perfectly when the right time comes. Instead of rushing for results, we should learn to wait patiently and focus on steady (稳步的) growth.

【答案】
“Not sure when they flower — isn’t it upsetting?” I asked. “It makes every effort meaningful,” he replied calmly. “Flowers develop bit by bit every single day. Blooming is just a brief moment, while the whole process of growing matters far more.” His words sank deep into my heart. I recalled my blue mood over poor grades and those sleepless nights, realizing I was too eager to succeed and cared too much about final results so that I ignored steady progress and the value of effort itself. I thanked the gardener sincerely and left the garden with a peaceful and relaxed mind.
From that day on, I decided to follow his advice — less hurrying, more growing. I adjusted my study state and made solid progress step by step instead of blindly chasing high rankings. When graduation finally arrived, I visited the garden again and saw countless flowers in full bloom. Soon afterwards, I received the admission notice from my target university. I realized I needn’t rush for success. As long as I keep moving forward steadily, I will surely shine in my own proper time.

I was incredibly proud of my school, the Maplewood Elementary. It connected me to my roots, as my father and grandfather had all graduated from here.
So, when our teacher Mr. Dow announced a group project to create a brochure (小册子) about our school for its 100th anniversary, I was thrilled. The best three brochures would be displayed in the school library, which was a chance to show the new students how wonderful our school was.
I was paired with two classmates: Jake, who loved photography, and Lily, who had a gift for writing. Working with others could be fun, right? But my enthusiasm quickly faded.
Our first meeting was a disaster. When we discussed which part of the school we should focus on, Jake kept talking about cameras and photos. I turned to Lily, hoping for some support. But she simply shrugged and said, “I’m not really into this. It sounds boring.” Jake nodded in agreement. The project seemed to be harder than I thought.
At our next meeting, I tried to lead the conversation back to the project. I shared some interesting facts I had researched about the school. However, neither of them seemed interested. Jake had promised to gather materials from the library, but instead he showed us photos taken on the weekend. Lily hadn’t started her part of the research either, claiming she had been too busy. I felt like I was the only one who cared.
Back home, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I stayed up late that night, trying to create the brochure by myself. But no matter how hard I tried, the result was far from satisfactory. I was exhausted and disheartened. My mom noticed I was upset. “You can’t do this alone,” she gently reminded me. “Jake and Lily have talents that can make this project shine. You just need to find a way to get them involved.”

【答案】
With only three days left, I knew I had to act. After brainstorming some ideas, I invited Jake and Lily to my house. Opening my grandfather’s diary, I pointed at the faded photo of his class. “Your camera can save the moment for the future,” I told Jake, whose eyes suddenly sparkled. Then I suggested he photograph every corner of the school like “time travelers” Meanwhile, Lily was engaged in my grandfather’s love letter, eager to bring hidden stories back to life. I was busy organizing layouts, combining historical accuracy with creativity. The clock was ticking, but our laughter replaced earlier frustration.
On the final day, we presented our brochure in class. We stood by the blackboard as everyone went through the pages. They examined the brochure carefully, with their fingers tracing the photos, narratives and timelines which connected three generations of graduates. Noticing surprise on every face, we couldn’t wait to hear Mr. Dow’s announcement of the winner. “This work isn’t just about the school anniversary,” he finally said, tapping the cover where our three names shone, “it’s about how its spirit lives through students’ cooperation.” That afternoon in the library, seeing our brochure on display, we realized our combined talents had created what none could alone.

(25-26高三下·广东深圳·阶段检测)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As a teenager. I often had conflicts with my parents for various reasons. One Saturday night. I wanted to watch a movie with friends and hang out afterward — just us. no parents. However. Mom and Dad had already committed to a family gathering at Aunt Sue’s.
It wasn’t that I hated family events. But when I wanted something really wanted it anything else felt like a prison. At that moment, all I could see was another wasted evening stuck in a house full of relatives while my friends enjoyed their night without me.
In frustration, I yelled and, as usual, told my parents I hated them. Why was this happening to me? All my friends were going out on Saturday. It just wasn’t fair!
I hardly ever felt guilty for being mean to my parents. Sure, they provided me with everything, but that “everything” included unfair rules and constant lectures on my attitude.
Later that night, I overheard my parents talking in the living room. My dad sounded upset and concerned. He was telling my mom about one of his students at the junior high where he teaches. The girl was a student with an amazing personality who always put others’ needs before hers. Her father had been killed in a traffic accident not long ago. Now it was just her and her mother, who were trying to make the best of everything.
For the past week, this girl had not been in school. It turned out her mother had contracted a deadly disease, and there was a good chance she might not survive. I could see tears in my dad’s eyes as well as in my mom’s.

【答案】范文
I was deeply shocked by this girl’s misfortune. I couldn’t believe someone so kind had suffered so much pain. Compared with her, my little disappointment seemed totally insignificant. I had a warm family and healthy parents who loved me deeply, yet I was always selfish and rude, complaining about trivial things and even saying hurtful words to them. Hearing her story made me rethink my attitude towards life. A wave of guilt washed over me, and my eyes grew wet. I realized how lucky I actually was.
With a heavy heart, I walked into the living room and hugged both my parents. I apologized sincerely for my bad temper and impolite words earlier. I told them I would go to the family gathering happily. My parents were surprised but smiled warmly. Their warm embrace made me feel even more grateful for what I had. That night, I reflected a lot. From then on, I learned to be grateful and tried to understand my parents. I no longer lost my temper easily, and our relationship became much closer.

Passage 6
(2026高三·全国·专题练习)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eighteen years ago, young Oliver would accompany his grandfather to the community library every Sunday. As his grandfather rested in the reading area, a few coins slipped from his coat pocket — unnoticed by him, but seen by a nearby stranger. Hesitant, the man quickly picked up the coins and retreated (后退) to a corner after seeing everyone absorbed in books. Oliver watched it all, uneasy but silent. When his grandfather stood up, Oliver whispered, “Someone took your coins.”
His grandfather smiled slightly, the wrinkles around his eyes softening with kindness. He lowered his head, his voice gentle like a song: “Dear child, don’t tell anyone. And don’t tell me who it was — I don’t want to know. But I do want you to remember him.” Confused, Oliver protested: “He’s a thief! How could he do such a thing here?”
His grandfather sighed, his expression turning thoughtful. “Child, try to see it another way. If he felt compelled (迫使) to do this here, his troubles must have been overwhelming. His heart was likely already heavy — we shouldn’t judge too quickly. Life teaches us that everyone faces struggles, but we can all grow better.” He paused, placing a reassuring hand on the boy’s shoulder. “A person’s worth is never measured by a few coins.”
From that day on, Oliver noticed his grandfather making changes to their Sunday routine. Every month, before leaving the library, his grandfather would quietly leave a small parcel of essentials — some food, warm socks, or simple toiletries — in a quiet corner of the reading area, with no note or indication of its sender. The following week, the parcel would be gone. Years passed. The man left town, and the grandfather died. Oliver grew up, and the library fell into disrepair.
Then one day, a businessman gave a large amount of money to expand and repair the library, bringing new life to its old structure. The town’s people were thankful to this unknown person. When the new library was finally finished, the donor walked onto the stage at the opening ceremony. Oliver recognized him at once. It was the man who’d picked up his grandfather’s coins eighteen years ago.

【答案】
The man cast his eyes around the people in the library, his voice slightly shaky. “Years ago, I was in great trouble. Right here, I picked up coins that had fallen from an old man’s pocket,” he shared. “I lived in fear. But someone left daily necessities for me every month, with no name attached.” His voice grew stronger. “Those silent acts of kindness didn’t just help me survive; they taught me that no one should be defined by their worst moment. It was that kindness that kept me going.” He paused, eyes wet, “This library gave me hope, so I want to give it new life.”
Moved to tears, Oliver fully understood his grandfather’s kindness and wisdom. His grandfather was right: a person’s worth is never measured by a few coins. His grandfather didn’t just forgive a mistake; he planted a seed of goodness. That seed grew in the man’s heart over the years, quietly taking root and ultimately blooming into generosity. Overwhelmed by this realization, Oliver walked up, and held his hand. “The giver was my grandfather. He’d be proud of you,” Oliver whispered, his voice thick with emotion. The man hugged him tightly, and the library was filled with warm silence — proof that kindness, once sown, always finds its way back, often multiplied.

Passage 7
(2026高三·全国·专题练习)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Mary’s mother, Mrs. Smith, was taking a beauty training course. A competition would be held at the end of the course, with prizes to be awarded after a practical competition. Eager to win the competition, Mrs. Smith hoped to find a young model to be her partner. She tried asking around for a suitable person, yet no one seemed perfect for the role.
As the competition drew near, Mrs. Smith finally turned to Mary and asked if she would be her model. Mary felt hesitant, for she had never worked as a model before. She was willing to help her mother, but she feared she might ruin the whole thing and she also worried that others would think it was improper for a student to work as a model at a public event.
However, Mrs. Smith was confident, optimistic and gifted. She strongly believed she could win the competition. At the same time, Mary was anxious that any mistake would put her down. Still, moved by her mother’s perseverance (坚持) and her best friend’s support, Mary finally agreed. In the following days, Mary watched videos about modeling and practiced in front of a mirror when she had time.
On the big day, Mrs. Smith took Mary with her and dressed her up. The costume was decorated with rich, brilliant red and gold colors, and it made Mary look extremely beautiful.
Soon, Mary drew the attention of other competitors and their models. Some stared at her in a strange way, and whispers about her identity spread around. Mary heard every word. Though she tried to keep calm, she was weighed down by mounting pressure. She didn’t want her mother to receive criticism (指责) because of her. Her heart pounded nervously. Suddenly, she spotted her friend smiling at her in the front row. Her nervousness disappeared at once, and she smiled back. Then Mary’s and Mrs. Smith’s names were called, meaning that it was their turn to give their performance.

【答案】
Feeling encouraged, Mary stepped onto the stage confidently. The bright stage lights shone on her, and for a moment, she remembered all the practice she had done those days — how she had practiced walking steadily in front of the mirror, how she had learned to keep a natural smile, and how her mother had encouraged her every step of the way. Mary followed the rhythm she had practiced countless times, walking slowly and gracefully across the stage, her smile warm and confident, completely different from the hesitant girl she had been just a few days before. All the judges nodded with admiration, deeply impressed by Mary’s elegant posture and natural charm.
When the winner was announced, Mary and her mother cried joyfully. They won first prize among so many excellent competitors! Holding the prize, Mrs. Smith hugged Mary tightly, repeatedly praising Mary as her perfect and most outstanding model. Seeing her mother’s delighted smile, Mary felt a strong sense of pride and achievement welling up in her heart. She was glad that she had the courage to agree and did not let her mother down. She also overcame her inner timidity and gained precious confidence and bravery. This unforgettable experience not only strengthened the bond between the mother and the daughter, but also became a precious, heartwarming memory that Mary would treasure for a lifetime.

Passage 8
(2026·江苏徐州·三模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For years, I had lived behind an invisible wall with my neighbor, Mr. Miller. The misunderstanding started on my tenth birthday. I had accidentally kicked my soccer ball into his rose bushes, crushing several of his most beautiful blooms. He had rushed out of his house, shouting at me with anger I had never seen before. I was so hurt and embarrassed that I shouted back, calling him an unreasonable old man. Since that day, we had exchanged no more than cold nods and uneasy silences.
Over the years, that small moment grew into a wall. We avoided eye contact. We crossed the street to avoid walking past each other. My parents tried to smooth things over, but I refused. “He started it,” I would say. And so the distance between us became a habit — a cold, quiet routine of pretending the other didn’t exist.
That belief was broken on a cold November evening six years later. My parents were away for the weekend, leaving me alone. Around 9 PM, while carrying a stack of books down the stairs, I missed a step and tumbled to the bottom. A sharp pain shot through my ankle, so intense that I screamed. I tried to stand, but my leg wouldn’t hold me. I dragged myself to the living room, only to find my phone dead on the sofa. No charger nearby.
I shouted for help, but the wind outside swallowed my voice. Fifteen minutes passed. Twenty. Panic began to creep in. I thought about how foolish I had been to push everyone away. Then came a soft knock at the door.
“Hello? Are you okay? I heard someone shouting.”
It was Mr. Miller. The man I had avoided for six years. The man whose rose bushes I had crushed. The man I had called unreasonable.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I hesitated, then told him I had fallen and couldn’t move. Without another word, he opened the unlocked door and rushed to my side. He knelt down, examined my ankle gently, and helped me onto the sofa. “You should have called me earlier,” he said softly, handing me his phone to reach my parents. Then he went back home and returned with an ice pack and a bowl of hot soup. Watching him move around my living room — fetching blankets, adjusting the ice pack — I felt a strange mix of shame and warmth. Shame for the years I had wasted on pride, and warmth for a kindness I never knew existed.
The next day, Mr. Miller came by, and my mother brought up the past. Before she could say another word, I interrupted. “Mr. Miller, I’m truly sorry. I was a kid who didn’t know any better. You had every right to be upset about your roses.” He looked at me, his eyes softening. “I’m sorry too,” he said. “I shouldn’t have shouted at a child.” We stood in silence for a moment, six years of cold nods melting away. At that moment, I learned that sometimes, the hardest step in growing up is admitting you were wrong. But once you take it, the weight on your shoulders suddenly feels much lighter.

Passage 9
(2026·山东·模拟预测)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Tonight,” Grandpa clapped me on the back, “we work, Rahim. We work like men.” Outside stars were beginning to appear. Grandpa climbed on his bicycle. My friend Aslam and I jogged beside him.
A sweet smell rose from Mr. Ahmed’s mango trees as we passed. Aslam slowed his jog, picked a few mangoes, and stuffed them into his pockets. I wished I were as lucky as Aslam with his movie-star hair, always making trouble, never getting caught. I wished I were at home, studying for the coming exam. I wished... But Grandpa was counting on me. We needed the money. He worked hard so I could stay in school.
When we reached the Lawachara National Park, the moon had risen midway into the sky. We entered the shadows of the forest. Aslam feared there might be tigers behind the trees. I told him they were rarely seen there. He then reminded me of our task of catching pangolins (穿山甲), and warned me not to be overly merciful. He still remembered how I’d saved a snake from those boys the week before. My stomach began to turn. I knew what the traders would do with the pangolin if we found one.
“A den (兽穴)is near. Stay and watch. I’m going further on to another.” Grandpa handed Aslam a cardboard box. “Remember, the traders won’t pay for an empty box. They want big pangolins with many scales (鳞). The better the scales, the better the money. I’m counting on you, boys.” Then he walked away.
Aslam asked why people would pay so much for pangolins. I told him they thought the scales were magical and could cure all kinds of diseases. Then he went on with his movie-star dream, promising all our money troubles would end once he made it. We chatted away, watching the moon climbing higher into the sky.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2: After a while, Grandpa came back and saw the empty box.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Suddenly we heard a low noise from among the fallen leaves. Aslam quickly responded, grabbing the box. We leaned forward and looked hard into the darkness — a pangolin! Aslam hissed my name and signaled me to get it. For a while I held my breath, watching the pangolin sweeping dry leaves with its scaled tail. Aslam pressed me on by reminding me of Grandpa’s words about acting like a man. Yet I just couldn’t bring myself to harm the innocent creature. I tried to convince Aslam it was utterly inhuman to earn money by hunting pangolins. Aslam fell silent, staring at the helpless pangolin, and slowly lowered the box.
After a while, Grandpa came back and saw the empty box. He glanced from Aslam to me. His white eyebrows stitched together. Unable to lie to him, I recounted everything in detail. I’d expected a good scolding, but instead I felt Grandpa’s rough hands gently stroking my face. He admitted he never liked the work and had turned to it only to support the family. Then he urged me to stay in school so I’d never have to make a living through something that troubled my conscience. Deeply touched, I promised someday I’d make him proud. The money was gone, but Grandpa’s back no longer looked so “bent” to me.

Passage 10
(2026·浙江杭州·三模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One winter day, the temperature suddenly dropped sharply, with icy winds howling outside and heavy snow blanketing the farm. It wasn’t until late that afternoon that we remembered our two ducks, a male and a female, were still at our poorly-built small farm. “Could they have frozen to death?” we wondered anxiously.
My mother and I hurried through the snow to the farm and, to our relief, found them still alive. Their bodies were covered with snow, and they were too cold even to quack (叫). Huddling closely together for warmth, they looked weak and exhausted. We quickly wrapped them in an old blanket and carried them home.
Back home, we took the ducks down to the basement and settled them in a warm corner with food, water and some old towels. In the dim light, shadows fell across old tools, ropes, broken baskets, fishing nets and other unused farm supplies that had been left there for years. The ducks soon rested quietly side by side.
We decided to leave the ducks alone so they could recover peacefully. Since they already had enough food and water, we didn’t go downstairs again for the rest of the day.
Everything seemed peaceful until that evening, when we were reading by the fire in the living room and a strange sound suddenly came from downstairs. It was a dull thumping noise, followed by a long pause. A few moments later, the sound returned, slow but urgent.
“Could that be the ducks?” my mother asked. Curious and slightly worried, we got up and went to check. It was indeed one of the ducks. Much to our surprise, the duck brother had climbed nearly to the top of the basement stairs. Struggling to stay upright, he flapped his wings wildly. Then, gathering all his remaining strength, he finally pulled himself onto the highest step and fixed his eyes on us.

【答案】例文
When he saw us, he let out several anxious quacks and glanced back toward the basement. Without waiting for us, he immediately turned around and struggled back down the stairs. Confused by his unusual behavior, we hurried after him. In the dim basement, the duck brother rushed toward the corner where the ducks had been resting, flapping his wings wildly and quacking over and over again. A weak rustling sound soon caught our attention. Through the shadows and scattered supplies, we could barely make out another duck struggling helplessly among the ropes and fishing nets.
We finally understood why the duck had tried so hard to climb upstairs. I quickly rushed to the kitchen for a pair of scissors while my mother gently tried to calm the trapped duck. Back in the basement, I knelt beside her and carefully cut through the tangled net strand by strand. After several tense moments, the final piece finally fell away. Freed at last, the duck sister weakly moved toward her brother, and the duck brother immediately quieted down and stayed close beside her. Watching the two ducks lean against each other once again in the warm basement, I felt a lump rise in my throat. That night, I realized animals may not speak our language, but they understand love, trust and family far more deeply than we often imagine.

Sorry."

Passage 3
(25-26高二下·广东深圳·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Passage 4
(2025·福建泉州·一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Passage 1
Passage 2
Passage 3
Passage 1
Passage 2
【答案】
Passage 3
Passage 1
Passage 2
【答案】
Passage 1
Passage 2
【答案】
Passage 3
Passage 4
Passage 5
Passage 6
Passage 7
Passage 8
Passage 9
Passage 10
