Five days later, on June 6th in the summer of 1910, a man opened the door of his house in Norway. He was a tall man, with a long face. He waited outside the house for a minute. Everything was very quiet. He could see no houses, only mountains, trees and water. It was nearly dark. The sky was black over the mountains.
The man smiled, and walked quickly away from the house, down to the sea. In the water, a big shipwaited for him. The man got onto the ship and talked and laughed quietly with his friends.
The ship’s name was Fram, and the man was Roald Amund- sen. The Fram was the most beautiful ship in the world, Amundsen thought. His friends were the best skiers (滑雪者) in the world, too. One of them, Olav Bjaaland, smiled at him.
“The Arctic (北极), here we come, Captain (船长),” he said.
“Yes,” Amundsen said. His friends could not see his face in the dark. “Fram is going to the Arctic.”
Everyone on the Fram was prepared to go to the Arctic. Amundsen wanted to go there, too. But first he wanted to go south. His friends didn’t know that.
At midnight on June 6th, the Fram moved quietly away from Amundsen’s house, out to sea.

①How many steps should you walk each day to stay healthy and live a long life? Many people believe the magic number is 10, 000 steps. However, a study shows that fewer steps can be just as good, especially (尤其) if you are 60 or over.
②The idea of walking 10,000 steps comes from a Japanese company selling a tool (工具) to count steps back in the 1960s. The company calls it the “Manpo Metre”—it means the “10,000-step metre”. Walking 10,000 steps is a well-known daily walking goal, but scientists say it isn’t a rule.
③Scientists work on 15 studies with nearly 48,000 people. They find that the more people walk, the longer they live. ▲ For people over 60, walking more than 8,000 steps a day doesn’t lower the risk (降低风险) of early death. For people between 18 and 59, the best steps are 8,000 to 10,000 a day. A new 2026 study says this too. For older people, about 5,700 steps a day can also help.
④The scientists put people into different groups according to their step count. The lowest (最低) group takes about 3,500 steps every day, and the highest group takes about 10, 900 steps every day. The people in the group taking the most steps have a 40% to 53% lower risk of early death than those who walk the least (最少).
⑤The scientists say that knowing the best number of steps for different ages can help give better advice for staying healthy.
51. How does the writer start to talk about the “magic number” of steps?
A. By telling a story. B. By giving an example.
C. By asking a question. D. By showing a picture.
52. Which of the following can we put in “ ▲ ”?
A. Instead, people under 60 need a high number of steps.
B. Also, walking more steps makes the risk of death go down.
C. However, people of different ages need different numbers of steps.
D. But people with different health conditions (状况) need different numbers of steps.
53. How many steps a day are enough for people over 60 to stay healthy?
A. About 3,500 steps. B.5,700 to 8,000 steps.
C. 8,000 to 10,000 steps. D. Over 10,000 steps.
54. What’s the purpose of this passage?
A. To sell a “Manpo Metre” step counter.
B. To show that steps for a healthy life change with age.
C. To tell the reasons why 10,000 steps is a good daily goal.
D. To ask people to stay healthy and walk as much as they can.
55. What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

The China Space Station (空间站) has some new members! They are four lovely mice, and their numbers are 6, 98, 154, and 186. They fly to the China Space Station with the Shenzhou-21 astronauts. They are special “animal astronauts” and they do important jobs in space!
Why do scientists choose mice for this space trip? Mice are small and they grow quickly. Also, their bodies work in a similar way to humans’ (人类的). This makes them great for studying life in space. Scientists pick these four mice from a group of 300. Before going to space, scientists train (训练) the four mice to make them smart and strong.
What is life like for these “mice astronauts”? They live in a special home, and the temperature there is about 26℃. They climb, eat, and sleep in their warm and clean home. They look happy and healthy and feel good in the micro-gravity environment (微重力环境).
This trip is very important. By watching how mice live in space, scientists can learn how space changes living things. This helps people understand if humans can live in space for a long time in the future.
Now the mice come back to China. However, their job isn’t over. They will help with more science work after that. With the help of this scientific study, China’s space science is getting better and better. It is a small step for mice, but a big jump for China’s space science!
