I first fell in love with acupuncture (针灸) when I realized that it could be a cure for a migraine, a very bad headache that often makes you unable to bear strong light. Before I discovered acupuncture, I tried everything for migraines. Eventually, my battle with migraines started to affect my studies and my relationships with my husband and friends. I couldn’t focus or get my work done. Nothing worked permanently. That was when I decided to give acupuncture a shot.
It took a few acupuncture sessions for me to start to notice gradual differences. In time, after following my treatment plan strictly, I went from having migraines more than half the days out of the month to just one or two migraines a month. I noticed I was having improvement with other symptoms as well.
As I started to see improvement in my own health, I realized there was so much more to this approach to health and curing than just acupuncture. I started to learn about the Chinese Medicine ideas behind the acupuncture treatments and became attracted to the idea of Qi, or energy, and how it is affected by the seasons, diet, and more. It was my own health journey that eventually led me to my pursuit of my master’s degree in Chinese Medicine in 2014.
When my patients come in for their first consultation, many are not aware of all of the potential benefits available to them beyond a simple acupuncture treatment. As a practitioner (执业者) in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it is my job to listen, determine the range of the problem, educate and create a treatment plan for my patients. What I love about my career is that I have the opportunity to share a number of treatment options including acupuncture, cupping, and dietary recommendations, as well as little at-home tips that make a world of difference.
24. Why did the author try acupuncture?
A. Her quality of life declined. B. Her husband and friends advised her to try it.
C. She was unable to bear bright light. D. She had known its benefits before migraines.
25. What do we know about the acupuncture treatment?
A. It erased the author’s migraines. B. It involved complex treatment plans.
C. It worked gradually but effectively. D. It was closely based on the idea of Qi.
26. What did acupuncture bring to the author?
A. A higher academic degree. B. A firm decision to study medicine.
C. A reputation for treating migraines. D. An interest in Chinese medicine.
27. Which of the following best describes the author as a TCM practitioner?
A. Caring but cautious. B. Attentive and considerate.
C. Strict but encouraging. D. Knowledgeable and experienced.
A 25. C 26. D 27. B

The use of AI for specific purposes has increased in recent years. AI has recently helped create and deliver new police services, connect police forces to citizens, build trust, and strengthen relationships with communities. There is growing use of smart solutions such as biometrics (生物识别), facial recognition, smart cameras, and video surveillance (监控) systems.
A recent study found smart technologies such as AI could help cities reduce crime by 30 to 40 percent and reduce response times for emergency services by 20 to 35 percent. The same study found that cities have started to invest in real-time crime mapping, crowd management and gunshot detection. Cities are making use of facial recognition and biometrics (84%), and in-car and body cameras for police (55%). However, only 8 percent use data-driven policing.
Surveillance is not new, but cities are starting to analyse surveillance data. Cities already collect images for surveillance purposes, but by using AI, images can now be analysed and acted on much more quickly. Machine learning and big data analysis make it possible to sort through huge amounts of data on crime, to identify patterns, correlations and trends. When the right relationships are in place, technology is what supports police forces to better do their job and bring about behaviour change. The final goal is to create flexible systems that can detect crimes and unusual activity, and even contribute to the effectiveness of justice systems.
However, experts say it is almost impossible to design widely accepted ethical (伦理的) AI systems because of the great variety of contexts they need to include. Any advances in AI for surveillance and predictive policing need to be accompanied by discussions about ethical and regulatory issues. Even though the value of these technologies might seem attractive from a use case perspective, civil rights need to be protected by proper privacy and human rights regulations.
28. What does the first paragraph mainly talk about?
A. AI’s role in security. B. AI’s use in daily life.
C. AI’s significance to trust. D. AI’s value in solving crimes.
29. Why does the author list the numbers in paragraph 2?
A. To criticize traditional policing. B. To show AI’s wide acceptance.
C. To prove the effectiveness of AI. D. To compare crime control methods.
30. How does AI support police work through surveillance?
A. By collecting images faster. B. By analysing data to spot patterns.
C. By instructing police decisions. D. By predicting future crime types.
31. What is experts’ attitude toward AI in surveillance?
A. Hopeless. B. Favorable.
C. Opposed. D. Mindful.
A 29. C 30. B 31. D
根据第一段“The use of AI for specific purposes has increased in recent years. AI has recently helped create and deliver new police services, connect police forces to citizens, build trust, and strengthen relationships with communities. There is growing use of smart solutions such as biometrics (生物识别), facial recognition, smart cameras, and video surveillance (监控) systems.(近年来,人工智能在特定领域的应用日益增多。AI已助力创建并提供新型警务服务,加强警方与民众的联系,增强公众信任,并改善社区关系。智能解决方案如生物识别、人脸识别、智能摄像头和视频监控系统的应用也不断扩展)”可知,本段具体提到AI在公共安全保障领域的作用。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“A recent study found smart technologies such as AI could help cities reduce crime by 30 to 40 percent and reduce response times for emergency services by 20 to 35 percent.(一项最新研究发现,人工智能等智能技术可帮助城市将犯罪率降低30%至40%,并将紧急救援响应时间缩短20%至35%)”可知,这些数字是为了说明AI技术在预防犯罪和提高效率方面的显著潜力,即证明AI的有效性。
根据第三段中的“Cities already collect images for surveillance purposes, but by using AI, images can now be analysed and acted on much more quickly. Machine learning and big data analysis make it possible to sort through huge amounts of data on crime, to identify patterns, correlations and trends. When the right relationships are in place, technology is what supports police forces to better do their job and bring about behaviour change.(虽然城市早已为监控目的收集图像资料,但借助人工智能,如今可以更快地对图像进行分析并采取相应行动。机器学习和大数据分析技术使人们能够高效处理海量犯罪数据,识别出犯罪模式、关联性及发展趋势。当建立正确的合作关系时,技术能够帮助执法部门更好地履行职责,并推动行为改变)”可知,AI通过机器学习和对海量数据的分析,从监控数据中识别犯罪模式、关联性和趋势,从而为警方提供支持。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“However, experts say it is almost impossible to design widely accepted ethical (伦理的) AI systems because of the great variety of contexts they need to include. Any advances in AI for surveillance and predictive policing need to be accompanied by discussions about ethical and regulatory issues. Even though the value of these technologies might seem attractive from a use case perspective, civil rights need to be protected by proper privacy and human rights regulations.(然而,专家指出,由于需要涵盖多种不同的使用情境,设计出被广泛接受的伦理人工智能系统几乎是不可能的。在监控和预测警务方面取得的任何AI进展,都必须伴随对伦理和监管问题的讨论。尽管从应用角度来看,这些技术的价值可能颇具吸引力,但必须通过适当的隐私保护和人权法规来保障公民权利)”可知,专家看到了技术的价值,但更强调必须以审慎、警觉的态度处理伦理问题,D项Mindful意为“当心的、警觉的”,准确反映出这种审慎且不盲目乐观的态度。

Economics is the study of how rare resources are distributed; whether that is housing, food, or money. However, in an age of endless amounts of information at our fingertips, what is the rarity? Unlike what can be quantified and measured, our invisible yet extremely valuable attention is the limiting factor: we are in the age of the attention economy.
The American Psychological Association defines attention as “a state in which cognitive (认知的) resources are focused on certain aspects of the environment rather than on others.” Attention comes in forms like love, recognition, and help. Although attention is theoretically unquantifiable, many obtain attention’s value from how much time we focus on a particular thing. We face attention’s rarity every day; while “paying attention” to one thing, we ignore others. Similar to money, we exchange attention; you are reading this article right now and probably ignoring the other work you have to do.
Our attention has always been limited, valuable, and rare. But what distinguishes the present day is that technological advances have made a huge amount of information available, strategically aimed at attracting our attention. As for the general public, it has never been easier to garner such personal levels of attention through means like social media.
However, social media keeps us on the platform longer and wanting more. Anyone can set up an account and have the opportunity for their presence to be seen by millions, but this also increases the pressure to attract more of the increasingly rare resource of attention. As our online social media presence and images are determined by the number of “friends,” “followers” vs. “following,” “likes,” and “subscribers”, comparison is easy. Furthermore, social media sites’ “explore pages” throw endless information at us, hoping that one picture or video will interest us. We can scroll (滚屏) endlessly, and upon finishing a video we will always have a new one to auto-play. However, when our attention is glued to our phones, we abandon other opportunities.
32. What do the underlined words “at our fingertips” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Under our control. B. Ready to share.
C. Free to download. D. Easy to access.
33. What is the feature of attention according to the text?
A. It is a form of love. B. It involves trade-offs.
C. It can be easily measured. D. It can be stored like money.
34. What impact does technology have on attention?
A. It intensifies the fight for attention. B. It reduces the quality of attention.
C. It makes information easier to spread. D. It changes the nature of attention.
35. What is implied in the last paragraph?
A. Social media takes over our attention. B. Social media makes attention easy to get.
C. Social media exploits limited attention. D. Social media turns attention into numbers.
D 33. B 34. A 35. C
根据第一段中“However, in an age of endless amounts of information at our fingertips, what is the rarity?(然而,在信息at our fingertips、无穷无尽的时代,稀缺的东西是什么呢?)”
根据第二段中“We face attention’s rarity every day; while “paying attention” to one thing, we ignore others. Similar to money, we exchange attention; you are reading this article right now and probably ignoring the other work you have to do.(我们每天都能感受到注意力的稀缺性;当“集中注意力”于一件事时,我们便忽略了其他事情。与金钱类似,我们也在交换注意力:此刻你正在阅读这篇文章,很可能忽略了你必须做的其他工作。)”可知,注意力具有取舍权衡、需要权衡利弊的特点,存在取舍交换。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“But what distinguishes the present day is that technological advances have made a huge amount of information available, strategically aimed at attracting our attention.(但当今时代的独特之处在于,科技进步带来了海量信息,且这些信息刻意旨在吸引我们的注意力。)”
根据第四段中“However, social media keeps us on the platform longer and wanting more.(然而,社交媒体让我们在平台上停留更久,并且想要更多。)”和“However, when our attention is glued to our phones, we abandon other opportunities.(当我们的注意力紧锁在手机上时,我们便放弃了其他机会。)”
For thousands of years, fire has been a regular natural process in Australia, shaping the landscape and impacting the evolution (进化) of its species. ____36____ That is to say, fire has become a fundamental ecological force.
Australia’s tendency for severe bush fires is a combination of climate, landscape, and ignition sources. The continent is naturally hot and dry. ____37____ Thus, forests there are exceptionally flammable (易燃的). Strong winds also play a part, carrying burning pieces long distances to start new fires far ahead of the main front.
____38____ Many of the native plants, particularly the dominant eucalyptus forests, are naturally flammable. Eucalyptus trees are rich in volatile (挥发的) oils that can turn into gas at high temperatures, creating a highly flammable atmosphere. These trees also drop large amounts of bark and leaves, which build up on the forest floor as a thick layer of fuel.
The final element is the source that starts bush fires. Bush fires can start from natural causes, with lightning strikes being the most common during dry thunderstorms. ____39____ These can range from accidental events like small burning pieces from machinery or fallen power lines, to carelessly managed campfires, and also include acts of setting fires on purpose.
The ecological harm of severe bush fires is huge, affecting wildlife, plant life, and the broader environment. For animals, the immediate impact is often deadly, as fast-moving fires endanger mobile species. The effects can be disastrous, as survivors face a landscape lacking food and shelter. ____40____
A. Australia has a high forest coverage rate.
B. Australian plants and animals can survive fires.
C. Fire has long been part of Australia’s environment.
D. That means they are at risk of hunger and being hunted.
E. This is often worsened by climatic cycles of low rainfall.
F. Human activities are the other major cause of many fires.
G. The nature of the Australian bush itself helps fires spread.
C 37. E 38. G 39. F 40. D
上文“For thousands of years, fire has been a regular natural process in Australia, shaping the landscape and impacting the evolution of its species.(数千年来,火灾一直是澳大利亚的一个常规自然过程,塑造了景观,影响了物种的进化)”说明火灾在澳大利亚长期存在并深刻影响生态演化。下文“That is to say, fire has become a fundamental ecological force.(也就是说,火已经成为一种基本的生态力量)”进一步解释说明,即火已成为一种基本的生态力量。 C选项中的“long been part of” 与前文“for thousands of years”相呼应。
上文“The continent is naturally hot and dry.(这片大陆自然炎热干燥)”说明澳大利亚气候炎热干燥。下文“Thus, forests there are exceptionally flammable (易燃的).(因此,那里的森林非常易燃)”用thus表因果,说明因此森林极易燃烧。
下文“Many of the native plants, particularly the dominant eucalyptus forests, are naturally flammable.(许多本土植物,特别是占主导地位的桉树林,天生易燃)”说明澳大利亚本土植被本身易燃。 G 项中的“the nature of the Australian bush”统领后文桉树的具体例子。
上文“Bush fires can start from natural causes, with lightning strikes being the most common during dry thunderstorms.(丛林大火可能是由自然原因引起的,在干燥的雷暴期间,雷击是最常见的)”说明自然因素是起火原因之一。空处后文“These can range from accidental events like small burning pieces from machinery or fallen power lines, to carelessly managed campfires, and also include acts of setting fires on purpose.(这些事件可能包括意外事件,如机器或掉落的电线上的小碎片燃烧,也可能是管理不善的营火,还包括故意纵火的行为)”列举的都是人为原因。 F项中的“the other major cause”与前文“natural causes”形成逻辑上的并列补充。
上文“The effects can be disastrous, as survivors face a landscape lacking food and shelter.(这些影响可能是灾难性的,因为幸存者面临着缺乏食物和住所的局面)”说明幸存动物面临生存环境恶化。 D项中的they指代前文的“survivors”, hunger对应“lacking food”, “being hunted”对应“lacking shelter”。

Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
Dear Sherry,
I’m writing to share my choice for the upcoming English talent show — a microfilm performance is definitely my pick.
Compared with the chorus, microfilm allows us to show more talent. We can write English scripts, practice acting, and even try filming and editing. It’s a great chance to use English in a lively way, instead of just reciting lyrics. Also, working on a microfilm needs teamwork: some write, some act, and others handle technical work. This helps us understand each other better while improving our English.
I believe it will make the talent show more interesting. Thanks for offering the two options!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Kevin had just graduated from medical school with a doctorate. He had mastered countless medical theories and advanced treatment methods. When he stepped into the city’s top hospital as a new doctor, his eyes were full of enthusiasm. “Ten years of hard study will pay off here. I’ll save many lives,” he often told himself.
However, the reality was far from what he expected. Once, an elderly patient with mild heart disease asked anxiously, “Doctor, is my condition serious? Will I get better soon?” Kevin replied matter-of-factly, “Your heart function is declining. If you don’t take medicine on time, you might lose your life.” The patient was so frightened that he burst into tears, and his family immediately filed a complaint against Kevin for scaring the patient.
Another time, a young father brought his child to see Kevin. The child had a high fever, and Kevin ordered several expensive tests and prescribed brand-name medicines without hesitation. The father hesitated and said, “Doctor, these tests and medicines are a bit costly. Is there a cheaper alternative?” Kevin frowned (皱眉) and said, “If you want your child to recover quickly, you have to pay for them.” The father had no choice but to borrow money to cover the expenses, and later he also complained about Kevin for not considering his economic situation.
Within a month, Kevin received three complaints. He felt blue and went to talk to Dr. Lily, the department director. “Dr. Lily, I don’t understand. I always give patients the most professional treatment based on my knowledge. Why do they keep complaining about me?” he asked with confusion.
Dr. Lily clapped him on the shoulder gently and said, “Kevin, being a good doctor is not just about having excellent medical skills. You also need to understand patients’ feelings and needs. Tim, who joined the hospital with you, is doing a great job. Why not observe how he works?”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
After thinking twice, Kevin decided to follow Lily’s tips.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Gradually, Kevin gained a new understanding of his job.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After thinking twice, Kevin decided to follow Lily’s tips. The next day, he walked into Tim’s consulting room quietly, standing by the door. He saw Tim dealing with an elderly patient who worried about his high blood pressure. Instead of listing medical terms directly, Tim smiled and said comfortingly, “Uncle, your blood pressure is a bit high yet manageable. Let’s adjust your diet first. If that doesn’t work, we’ll use mild medicine.” The patient nodded, looking reassured. Later, when a lady complained about pricey tests, Tim checked again, saying, “I’ll cancel two non-essential tests.” The lady thanked him repeatedly.
Gradually, Kevin gained a new understanding of his job. He realized that excellent medical skills alone were not enough to make a truly good doctor. Patients needed not only professional treatment but also warmth, understanding and respect. He began to communicate with them patiently, explain conditions in simple and comforting words, and choose suitable and affordable medical plans. As he put himself in patients’ shoes, he won their trust and finally understood that a good doctor treats both diseases and hearts.

A. Hopeless. B. Favorable.
C. Opposed. D. Mindful.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
After thinking twice, Kevin decided to follow Lily’s tips.
