根据第三段Gail MacInnis所说“The honeybee has been promoted as the symbol of helping the environment...and really it’s not that.”以及“You would never start keeping chickens to help save wild bird species.”
根据第四段中“Introducing honeybee hives to an area can be a problem for local wild bees, which often end up competing for the same food sources.”
根据最后一段Colla的回答“There is room for it in cities. It’s just right now we’re not managing it very responsibly”以及后续建议(设定蜂箱数量上限、登记蜂箱、养蜂人承担责任)可知,本段主要讲述应负责任地养蜂。
根据第一段中“Recently, a team of researchers set out to see if horses can sense people’s emotions from smell alone.”
根据第二段中“In the study, 30 people were asked to watch videos of happy scenes while cotton pads (棉花垫) under their arms collected their sweat. Then, with new pads under their arms, they watched a frightening film. The researchers then divided 43 horses into three groups. Each group wore muzzles (口套) over their nose and mouth with different pads: one with a pad of happy sweat, one with sweat from the frightened, and one with a clean pad” 可知,棉花垫放置在腋下是为了收集与情绪相关的汗液样本。
根据第三段中“Horses that wore the ‘fear’ muzzle acted more frightened. Their hearts beat faster, they were more likely to startle”可知,闻到恐惧气味的马表现出更强烈的恐惧反应,因此“amplify”意为“增强、放大”。
根据最后一段中“Stressed or frightened horses often react with behavior that can be dangerous, such as kicking or running away, so knowing the importance of remaining calm can also keep humans safer around these animals”可知,骑手保持冷静不仅能安抚马匹,也能让自己更安全。
根据第二段“In the Netherlands, fishermen who caught them used to throw them back.”
根据第三段“There are more examples for sea animals going from ‘purposely avoided’ to ‘willingly consumed’.”
根据倒数第二段“Yet today turtle-eating is more closely associated with remote and uncultured areas.” B项“海龟在美国完全消失”过于绝对;C项“海龟曾被故意避免食用”与19世纪流行的史实不符;D项“吃海龟在19世纪违背潮流”与原文“few foods were more recommended than turtle soup”矛盾。
根据第二段“People have been encouraged to eat more monkfish, as well as other unattractive creatures—in order to ensure the biodiversity of the ocean environment.”以及结尾“Better to stare into monkfish’s eyes than to contribute to the permanent loss of a species.”
根据第三段中的“They chose females because they would soon return to land to feed their young pups. That meant the scientists could easily get the cameras back.” 故选A。
根据最后一段“Using AI and the information from the videos, the researchers came up with a tool that can predict (预测) what the seafloor is like.”

Dear fellow classmates,
I’m Li Hua. Today, I’d like to share my experience about the power of sports.
Once, I was weak and often got sick. Then I started to play basketball every weekend. What I found was that as I kept playing, my body became stronger. I seldom fell ill anymore. What’s more, when I played with my teammates, I learned that teamwork, which is an important quality, could be developed through sports.
Sports have not only improved my health but also brought me joy and friendship. I truly believe that sports have great power and can change our lives for the better.
Thank you!

The woman smiled gently and told us she was a full-time community green volunteer. She comforted us patiently and said many residents were too busy to stop by, instead of lacking environmental awareness. She shared practical tips with us, such as talking with residents in a warm tone and using simple daily examples to explain sorting rules. She also helped us tidy up the messy materials and cheered us up not to give up easily. Her kind words and useful experience swept away our disappointment. Lily and Tom calmed down immediately and apologized to each other for their bad moods. We regained our confidence and decided to try new ways to carry out our project.
Thanks to her guidance, we restarted our project with a brand-new attitude. We divided our work reasonably: I chatted warmly with passing residents, Lily showed easy-to-understand picture examples, and Tom helped sort rubbish on the spot. Gradually, more and more residents stopped to join us. The elderly lady even came back to learn carefully and promised to stick to waste sorting every day. Finally, our activity won wide praise in the community. Although we didn’t focus on the award any longer, we truly realized real honor lies in practical green efforts and sincere teamwork to warm the neighborhood.

A
If you think backyard and roof-top beehives (蜂箱) are helping save the bees, think again, experts say.
A recent study conducted in Montreal found that places with the largest increase in honeybees kept by humans had the fewest wild bee species—with small bees, which are only able to fly shorter distances to find food, appearing to be especially at risk.
“The honeybee has been promoted as the symbol of helping the environment and the variety of living species on the earth, and really it’s not that,” says Gail MacInnis, a researcher at Concordia University. “You would never start keeping chickens to help save wild bird species.”
“Honeybees are among the most common insects in the world, but they aren’t native to many of the places where they are found,” says Sheila Colla, a professor at York University. “Honeybees are very successful invaders (入侵者),” Colla says. These bees can fly long distances and are able to effectively communicate with one another through dance language. Introducing honeybee hives to an area can be a problem for local wild bees, which often end up competing for the same food sources.
Should we stop keeping bees in the cities then? Colla gives us an answer in some way. “There is room for it in cities. It’s just right now we’re not managing it very responsibly in certain places,” she says. It is suggested that cities and towns that allow beekeeping should have caps on the number of hives and require people to register their bee hives. Beekeepers also need to understand the responsibility they’re taking on.
21.Why does Gail MacInnis mention “keeping chickens”?
A.To introduce a new topic.
B.To show how to save wild birds.
C.To make her idea easily understood.
D.To share chicken-keeping knowledge.
22.What is the problem for the local wild bees when honeybee hives are introduced?
A.Competition for food. B.Risk of being killed.
C.Less communication. D.No habitat.
23.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Saving the honeybees. B.Building hives in cities.
C.Making room for honeybees. D.Keeping honeybees responsibly.

People have believed for many years that horses can “smell fear,” and riders are often told to relax in order to keep their horse calm. Past studies have found that horses pick up human emotions from our facial expressions and voices. Recently, a team of researchers set out to see if horses can sense people’s emotions from smell alone.
In the study, 30 people were asked to watch videos of happy scenes while cotton pads (棉花垫) under their arms collected their sweat. Then, with new pads under their arms, they watched a frightening film. The researchers then divided 43 horses into three groups. Each group wore muzzles (口套) over their nose and mouth with different pads: one with a pad of happy sweat, one with sweat from the frightened, and one with a clean pad.
The team then tested the horses to see how they reacted to unexpected events, such as an umbrella being opened near them or an unfamiliar object being placed in front of them. Horses that wore the “fear” muzzle acted more frightened. Their hearts beat faster, they were more likely to startle (受惊), and they were less likely to be curious about the new object or approach humans.
“The fearful smells from humans amplify the reactions of horses,” lead study author Plotine Jardat said. “The significance is that horses can smell how we feel, even if they can’t hear or see us.”
The researchers hope that better understanding horses’ emotions can help people interact more positively with the animals and improve horse health and happiness. Stressed or frightened horses often react with behavior that can be dangerous, such as kicking or running away, so knowing the importance of remaining calm can also keep humans safer around these animals.
24.What does the recent study focus on?
A.Whether horses can smell emotions.
B.How horses recognize people by voice.
C.How horses communicate with humans.
D.Whether horses can read facial expressions.
25.Why are the cotton pads placed under the 30 people’s arms?
A.To block unpleasant smells. B.To help them feel comfortable.
C.To prevent them from sweating. D.To gather emotion-related sweat.
26.What does the underlined word “amplify” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Ruin. B.Cover. C.Control. D.Increase.
27.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Calm riders keep both safer. B.Frightened horses run faster.
C.Horses are easy to feel happy. D.People understand horses well.

Monkfish are low in calories and they are easy to cook. They can be cut into pieces, mixed with egg whites, cornflour and salt, and then put into boiling water for a few minutes. There is only one problem with monkfish: they are ugly. With their eyes sticking out and wide mouths full of sharp teeth, they are frightening.
In the Netherlands, fishermen who caught them used to throw them back. They are still usually sold without their heads, but the days of throwing them away are long gone. Japanese diners love the fatty liver; while Italians may still call them toad tails, that doesn’t stop them from eating the fish. People have been encouraged to eat more monkfish, as well as other unattractive creatures — in order to ensure the biodiversity of the ocean environment.
There are more examples for sea animals going from “purposely avoided” to “willingly consumed”. In America, lobsters used to be fed to prisoners — a result of their abundance but also, no doubt, because they are difficult to eat and look frightening. Not until the late 19th century did they become fantastic dish. Today they are so desirable that Maine, where most American lobsters are caught, has the images of these creatures printed on many of its vehicles.
Sometimes fashion goes the other way. Turtles were plentiful in early America, but in the 19th century they became fashionable: few foods were more recommended than turtle soup. Americans ate some species of turtle nearly to extinction. Yet today turtle-eating is more closely associated with remote and uncultured areas.
Among cooking choices, people prefer the rare and the beautiful one than the unattractive one. But such narrow-minded food choices can have bad results: some species may not survive human preference for them. Better to stare into monkfish’s eyes than to contribute to the permanent loss of a species.
28.How were monkfish treated in the Netherlands?
A.They were abandoned by local fishermen.
B.They were popular due to their fatty livers.
C.They were called toad tails from time to time.
D.They were considered a danger to the ecosystem.
29.Why are lobsters mentioned in paragraph 3?
A.To stress its abundance in America.
B.To make a comparison with monkfish.
C.To prove prisoners used to be fed on seafood.
D.To show people’s food habits keep changing.
30.What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A.Turtle-eating has been out of date now.
B.Turtles have completely disappeared in America.
C.Turtles were purposely avoided among food choices.
D.Turtle-eating was against fashion in the 19th century.
31.What is the main purpose of this text?
A.To introduce rare undersea wildlife.
B.To encourage people to eat seafood.
C.To explain why people dislike monkfish.
D.To call for the protection of biodiversity.

How do you study unexplored areas of the ocean and identify critical habitat for an endangered species? You include the animal for study in the scientific process. Australian scientists have formulated a clever solution to study hard-to-reach areas of the seafloor: they attached (把……固定在) cameras to sea lions. The resulting videos have given scientists new information about the endangered sea lions, and also about the seafloor.
Australian sea lions are endangered and have seen population declines of over sixty percent in the last forty years. Researchers from the University of Adelaide fitted endangered Australian sea lions with cameras and tracking devices (跟踪仪器) to better understand where they spent their time and how they used different areas of the seafloor to gather food.
The sea lions could cover large areas of the ocean floor quickly, and dive deeply to places humans can’t reach. The researchers used eight healthy females from two different groups of sea lions. They chose females because they would soon return to land to feed their young pups. That meant the scientists could easily get the cameras back.
The eight sea lions traveled about 560 kilometers underwater, diving as deep as 110 meters below the surface. In all, the animals collected 89 hours of videos, letting the researchers see exactly what the animals saw.
After reviewing the videos, researchers were surprised to learn the sea lions hunt for food in six distinct seafloor habitats and different sea lions like different kinds of food. The videos gave the team a good idea of the kinds of plants and animals living in each of those environments.
Using AI and the information from the videos, the researchers came up with a tool that can predict (预测) what the seafloor is like. If the AI tool is given the sea’s temperature at the surface, and how far the location is from land, it can guess what the ocean floor will be like. And it’s correct 98% of the time.
32.What does the underlined word “formulated” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Made up. B.Set down C.Worked out. D.Taken over.
33.Why did the researchers choose females?
A.They could offer feedback timely.
B.They could travel a long distance.
C.They could provide more accurate (精确的) information.
D.They could collect larger amount of information.
34.What is the AI tool mentioned in the last paragraph used for?
A.Working out the traveling distance.
B.Monitoring the ocean temperatures.
C.Gathering information about sea lions.
D.Making predictions about the seafloor.
35.What would be the most suitable title for the text?
A.Scientists Discover Ways to Study Sea Lions
B.Sea Lions Are Found in Unexplored Areas
C.Habitats for Sea Lions Are Being Observed
D.Endangered Sea Lions Help Study the Seafloor

Travelers often fill their suitcases with souvenirs like refrigerator magnets, keychains and postcards. 36 Now, those visiting the Italian lakeside town of Como have another, slightly less conventional item to bring home: a sealed can of Lake Como air.
ItalyComunica, a communications company, is selling 13.5-ounce cans of “pure air from the most beautiful lake in the world” for roughly $11 (€9.90) each. 37 They feature a dark blue label with an illustration of a boat cruising through the water. “Open it whenever you need a moment of escape, tranquility, or simply beauty,” instructs the website. “Only those who visit Lake Como can want to buy our souvenir; memories are not bought but lived.”
Sitting at the base of the Alps, Lake Como is a large body of water in Italy’s northern Lombardy region. 38 Many celebrities own second homes in the surrounding area, and numerous movies have been filmed there.
39 Clever businesspeople have been selling similar products for decades. In mountain towns and other high-elevation destinations, “oxygen in a can” is sometimes marketed as an antidote (缓解物) to altitude sickness, despite little scientific evidence to support that claim. Any benefits from canned air are likely due to the placebo (安慰剂) effect, experts say.
Alessandro Rapinese, the mayor of Como, says that he would rather vacationers bought silk scarves, which the region is known for, or other souvenirs. However, he adds: “ 40 Just make sure to take beautiful memories of this area as well.”
A.It’s the best souvenir option.
B.It has become a popular vacation destination.
C.Souvenirs have a long and fascinating history.
D.These little items serve as reminders of their vacation.
E.If someone wants to take some air home, that’s perfectly fine.
F.The cans are marketed as “luxurious” souvenirs on the product website.
G.This is not the first time canned air has been marketed to tourists, though.

As part of our school’s Green Living Week activity, our class decided to launch a community waste-sorting volunteer project, aiming to teach nearby residents how to sort rubbish correctly and build a cleaner, greener neighborhood. As the group leader, I made a detailed plan with my teammates — Lily and Tom, and we spent our spare time making colourful brochures with clear sorting guides, preparing vivid posters painted with lovely cartoon patterns and practising our speeches carefully until we could explain the rules fluently. We were filled with ambition and expected to win the Best Green Activity Award of the school, which would bring great honor to our class and inspire more people to live an eco-friendly life.
On the first day of the activity, we set up a stand decorated with green ribbons (丝带) in the busy community square. However, few residents stopped to listen to us; some even walked past quickly, their eyes glancing over our posters without any interest at all. Worse still, when we tried to explain waste sorting to an elderly lady passing by, she shook her head gently and said it was too troublesome to follow the complicated rules every day. Lily grew discouraged and lowered her head, suggesting we quit, while Tom grew impatient, raising his voice to blame the residents for their lack of environmental awareness. Tension rose quickly among our small group, and our green project, which we had prepared for weeks, seemed to fall apart at once.
Just as we were quarrelling and packing up our materials in disappointment, a sudden strong wind blew away all our carefully-made brochures and posters across the square. Some papers even fell into a dirty pool, getting wet and torn beyond repair. I stared at the messy scene, my throat tight with sorrow — our efforts for green living seemed to totally make no difference. At that moment, a middle-aged woman in a volunteer vest (马甲) walked towards us, holding a pile of neat paper and a roll of tape.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
