上文“Suddenly, the ground shook hard and I was thrown to the floor.” a flood“洪水”、a fire“火灾”和a planet“行星”均与地面摇晃的场景不符。
reduce...to pieces“把……震成碎片”,固定搭配,to表示结果状态。of、for、with均不构成此固定搭配。

上文“heard another hospital needed support”表明作者主动要求去支援,signed up“报名”符合语境。looked up“查阅”、picked up“捡起”和put up“张贴”均不合句意。
me(宾格)、I(主格)、my(形容词性物主代词)均不能单独作宾语表示“我的(帮助)”。
“a patient teacher”与“a kind friend”是并列关系,表示“既是……

When I was a teenager, I did a six-week summer learning camp at a college. It helped kids get a taste of what college was like. We had classes in the morning and the evenings were filled with fun activities. We did have a break in the afternoons. One afternoon, my friend Claude and I found an old basketball. We went to an outdoor basketball court for a game of one-on-one (一对一).
At that time, Claude was taller than me. He was also better at basketball. Gradually (逐渐), I fell behind. I made up my mind and drove hard to the basket, but missed it! The ball bounced off the rim Just as I jumped up to catch it, I saw an elbow (肘) above my face. When Claude caught the ball, his elbow hit my eye hard. I saw stars everywhere. The pain was terrible. Claude kept saying “sorry” over and over. I laughed through the pain.
I spent the next few days walking around with a black eye, but it was worth it. For years, afterward, I got a laugh whenever I told the story and joked about Claude’s elbow of death. We all get an elbow to the eye sometimes. Our plans fail. Things work against us. Our ups become downs. When this happens, it’s best to face it with laughter and forgiveness (原谅). In this way, you can turn your pain into joy and you can learn and grow.

A. Angry and sad. B. Sorry and afraid. C. Shy and nervous. D. Funny and forgiving.
35. What does the writer want to tell us through the story?
A. Stay away from dangerous activities. B. Life is always full of ups and downs
C. Face life with laughter and forgiveness. D. Everyone grows up with lots of pain.
B 32. B 33. A 34. D 35. C
根据第一句“When I was a teenager, I did a six-week summer learning camp at a college.”
根据第二段“The ball bounced off the rim (球从篮筐边缘弹回)” 以及后文“Just as I jumped up to catch it (就在我跳起来接它时)”可知,it指代的是前文提到的“The ball”。

根据第三段“For years, afterward, I got a laugh whenever I told the story...face it with laughter and forgiveness.”

C
Pencils are common tools for writing and drawing. They look simple, but they have an interesting history.
It all started in the 1500s. People in England found graphite (石墨). It is a special material and can leave marks on paper. So it was very good for making writing tools. At first, people put graphite in string (细绳) or wooden tubes (木管) to use it. The modern pencil appeared in the 17th century. Workers made pencils by putting graphite into wood. Artists and architects (建筑师) began to use pencils for their work.
A big change came in 1795. Nicholas-Jacques Conte was an officer and a good engineer. At that time, Europe had no more pure graphite. Conte had a good idea. He mixed graphite with clay (黏土) and heated it. This new material was just as good as pure graphite. By using more or less clay, he could make pencils softer or harder. These pencils helped artists and writers work better.
Conte put this material into wood. This made pencils clean and easy to use. We still use this design today. Conte died in 1805. People remember him as the inventor of the modern pencil.
36. Why was graphite good for making writing tools?
A. It was very light. B. It could leave marks on paper.
C. It was easy to find everywhere. D. It was very expensive.
37. How did people use graphite at first?
A. They put it in string or wooden tubes. B. They mixed it with water.
C. They made it into long sticks. D. They painted it on paper.
38. The underlined word “pure” in Paragraph 3 means “________”.
39. Why did Conte mix graphite with clay?
A. Because he wanted to make pencils more beautiful.
B. Because he wanted to make pencils cheaper.
C. Because pure graphite was hard to get.
D. Because it made pencils longer.
40. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A. The modern pencil design is not useful now. B. Graphite was first found in the 17th century.
C. No artists used pencils before the 17th century. D. Conte’s idea changed the way we make pencils.
36. B 37. A 38. A 39. C 40. D
根据第二段“It is a special material and can leave marks on paper.”
根据第二段“At first, people put graphite in string (细绳) or wooden tubes to use it.”
混合是为了替代无法获取的“纯”石墨,且后文提到“This new material was just as good as pure graphite.”,结合常识可知pure意为“纯的”。
根据第三段“At that time, Europe had no more pure graphite. Conte had a good idea. He mixed graphite with clay...”
根据第四段“We still use this design today.”以及“People remember him as the inventor of the modern pencil.”

Mum and Dad have always tried their best to make sure I grow up happily, and I wanted to do something for them. I decided to help them to wash the dishes. But I didn’t want to do it in a simple way. I was going to be the best washer-up (洗盘子的人) in the world!
At first, I found it was not easy to be the best washer-up. Sometimes, a plate would fall from my hands and break on the floor. Mum had to come to help me and it made me feel ashamed (羞愧的). Soon I had another problem. I couldn’t get those bowls and plates as clean as I wanted. But I wasn’t going to stop. After trying more than five bottles of washing-up liquid (洗洁精), I finally found the best one that was just right for the job. After weeks of practice, I finally became what I wanted to be — the best washer-up in the world. Looking at the shining plates, glasses and bowls, I felt so proud.
And then one day, I came home from school, thinking about washing up all the plates after dinner, but to my surprise, a big new machine was standing in the middle of the kitchen — a dishwasher (洗碗机)!
