It was his seventh trip to Gansu: “When I think of China, Gansu is one of the first places that come to mind,” he said. Dillingham leads Horseshoe Road, a US folk band that has performed in more than 40 countries and regions around the world. In total, his band has visited China more than a dozen times for cultural exchange activities. In 2017, Horseshoe Road performed at the Silk Road International Cultural Expo in Dunhuang for the first time, bringing US folk music to the ancient Silk Road city. “To perform American folk music in a place — with thousands of years of history and deep cultural exchanges between East and West — was truly historic for me,” Dillingham said. Dillingham is attracted by the role the ancient Silk Road has played in shaping musical traditions around the world. “Oklahoma, my hometown, does not lie on the physical Silk Road, but without the Silk Road, you wouldn’t have traditional fiddle culture,” he said, noting that bowed string instruments (弓弦乐器) probably originated in Central Asia before spreading westward into Europe and, eventually, the Americas. For Dillingham, performing in Dunhuang today means “actively participating in the future of the modern Silk Road”. One of his best-known original songs inspired by the ties between Gansu and Oklahoma is Old Friends, written after years of communication with Chinese audiences. “The idea is that friendships have ups and downs,” Dillingham said. “But in the end, we remain old friends and continue looking toward the future together.” He said his band’s relationship with Gansu provides him with a kind of view with which to reflect on the future of China-US relations. “It is our honor to continue nurturing the friendship, not only between Oklahoma and Gansu, but also between the United States and China.” 24. What do we know about Horseshoe Road? A. It is a band based in Gansu. B. It has visited China seven times. C. It has toured over 40 Chinese cities. D. It has performed in many cultural events. 25. What does Dillingham stress in his words about fiddle culture? A. The Silk Road’s influence. B. Its unique features in Oklahoma. C. Its long history in European countries. D. Oklahoma’s distance from the Silk Road. 26. What does the underlined word “nurturing” in the last paragraph probably mean? A. Examining. B. Protecting. C. Developing. D. Recovering. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. The Silk Road: From History to Future B. Dunhuang: The Origin of fiddle culture C. Old Friends: Music Along the Silk Road D. A Fiddler’s Journey: Seven Tours to Gansu C For the first time, we have seen a species recover from extreme weather through rapid evolution. Does this mean species hit by rising temperatures can adapt as the planet gets warmer? Evolution has saved countless species from past slow climate changes. But temperatures could rise by more than 4℃ by the end of the century. Can evolution really make a difference over such a short time? The answer is yes, at least for organisms with short generations. The latest evidence comes from the scarlet monkeyflower, which evolved its way out of the drought affecting California between 2012 and 2015. Monkeyflowers are water-loving plants that live along streams, so they were hit hard by the drought. Three local populations died out. But many of those that survived evolved drought tolerance (忍耐) in just three years, with many genome mutations (基因突变). These populations recovered fastest after the drought. Biologists call this “evolutionary rescue” — a species surviving a threat (威胁) by rapid evolution. It has been shown in labs, but this is the first time it has been shown to happen in the wild. It’s very hard to show because you need three things: showing that a population is declining due to a threat, that it has adapted genetically in response and that those changes enabled it to recover. Tasmanian devils (袋獾), for example, have evolved in response to a cancer, but biologists haven’t been able to link this evolution to population recovery. But a three-year drought is weather, not climate. Surviving one drought doesn’t mean monkeyflowers will be able to deal with a century or more of rising temperatures. What’s more, when populations decline, they lose genetic diversity, the fuel for evolution. If hit repeatedly, their ability to evolve weakens each time. Still, Daniel Anstett at Cornell University sees hope: “A lot of current predictions about species decline don’t take evolution into account. This is a story of hope.” 28. What is the main purpose of the first three paragraphs? A. To compare the evolutionary speed of different species. B. To prove that evolution is too slow to save any species. C. To explain how scientists study evolution in monkeyflowers. D. To question whether evolution is fast enough for rapid warming. 29. What happened to the scarlet monkeyflower during the California drought? A. It died out completely. B. It evolved drought tolerance. C. It moved to drier areas. D. It stopped producing flowers. 30. Why does the author mention Tasmanian devils in Paragraph 6? A. To introduce another related scientific study. B. To provide more examples of rapid evolution. C. To describe the evolution of a different species. D. To show the difficulty of proving evolutionary rescue. 31. What does Paragraph 7 mainly talk about? A. The limits of evolutionary rescue. B. The importance of genetic diversity. C. The possible results of climate change. D. The comments on the monkeyflower study. Social media and the Internet are powerful tools that are an important part of our daily lives. ____32____ But, sometimes, using them too much can stress us out and negatively affect other aspects of our lives. Whenever there was a chance to be silly, he would take it right away. He loved hiding toys, running in circles under the old oak tree while chasing squirrels, and dashing off just far enough to make people run after him. Next door lived Mrs. Odette, who often leaned over the fence, watching the naughty dog and shaking her head with a smile. But a spoonful of peanut butter or his old tennis ball could always turn this little troublemaker into a quiet, gentle pet. Watching his playful nature every day, his owner Stella wanted to see the world through Max’s eyes. So she bought a small camera and a special harness (背带) for him to wear. She imagined Max running happily in the yard, with the camera recording his little adventures. Stella was excited to try it, but Max was even more curious. On a sunny afternoon, golden light covered the yard, and wildflowers swayed gently by the fence. Stella took Max outside and took out the new camera. The moment Max saw the shiny device, his eyes lit up. Before Stella could hold it steady, Max seized it like a shark grabbing food and ran off. “Oh no, not again!” Mrs. Odette called from behind the fence. Before Stella could react, Max was racing across the yard with the camera in his mouth. “Hey! Max!” Stella shouted, chasing after him. But the faster she ran, the faster he went. I know it’s hard to keep the water exactly the right temperature in this lab, but you can see the difference in the fish. M: Yeah, we’ve had some differences in the water temperature, especially at night. W: I think we should write our lab report as soon as possible. M: I’m afraid I don’t agree. Maybe we’ll get clearer results if we give the experiment more time. W: OK. I see your point. Are these the notes you took yesterday? M: Yep. W: Do you mind if I copy them? I can’t seem to find my notebook. M: Go right ahead. 17. What does the speaker remind the listeners to do at first? A. Draw a map. B. Buy gifts at the shop. W: Well, we certainly have a busy day ahead of us, so let’s get started, shall we? Let’s have a look at the map of the museum now. The door on the right of the entrance hall leads into the gift shop and ticket center. Once we pick up our entrance tickets, I’d ask everyone to put their bags and coats in the storage area. Now, once you come back into the entrance hall, the door on the opposite side to the gift shop leads into the art gallery. There is a special exhibition there at the moment. If you continue on up the entrance hallway that leads into the main exhibition center, on the back left-hand side, there are some toilets. Beside the toilets, you’ll find the 3D theater. I strongly recommend that you make time for the 30-minute presentation in the theater. Running along the right-hand side of the main exhibition center is the Modern Art Studio. Here, not only can you view some of the most famous works of the 20th century, but you can also attend a workshop run by a local artist. OK, that’s the art museum. A As we approach 200 years of the Australian Museum (AM) in 2027, what better time to join and be part of history in the making? A Fiddler’s Journey: Seven Tours to Gansu 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. C 27. 根据第二段“In total, his band has visited China more than a dozen times for cultural exchange activities.(他的乐队总共已十余次赴中国开展文化交流活动)”可知,Horseshoe Road曾在许多文化活动中演出。 根据第五段“Oklahoma, my hometown, does not lie on the physical Silk Road, but without the Silk Road, you wouldn’t have traditional fiddle culture(俄克拉荷马州,我的家乡,并不在真正的丝绸之路沿线,但如果没有丝绸之路,你也不会拥有传统的提琴文化)”可知,迪林厄姆在谈到小提琴文化时,强调了丝绸之路的影响。 根据划线词后文“not only between Oklahoma and Gansu, but also between the United States and China(不仅是在俄克拉荷马州与甘肃之间,也在美国与中国之间)”可知,此处指维系、发展友谊,故划线词意思是“发展”。 根据第一段“Performing in Gansu in 2025, fiddler (小提琴手) Kyle Dillingham from the United States found himself back in what he calls his “home in China”. It was his seventh trip to Gansu: “When I think of China, Gansu is one of the first places that come to mind,” he said.(2025年在甘肃演出时,来自美国的小提琴家凯尔·迪林厄姆发现自己再次回到了他称之为“中国家乡”的地方。这是他第七次来到甘肃:“当我想到中国时,甘肃总是第一个浮现在脑海的地方,”他说)”结合全文围绕美国小提琴家沿丝路在甘肃敦煌演出,创作歌曲《Old Friends》,以音乐维系中美友谊展开。可知,C选项“老朋友:丝绸之路沿线的音乐”最符合文章标题。 C For the first time, we have seen a species recover from extreme weather through rapid evolution. D 29. B 30. D 31. 根据第一段“Does this mean species hit by rising temperatures can adapt as the planet gets warmer? (这是否意味着受气温升高影响的物种能在地球持续变暖时适应环境?)以及第二段“Evolution has saved countless species from past slow climate changes. But temperatures could rise by more than 4℃ by the end of the century. Can evolution really make a difference over such a short time?(进化曾在以往缓慢的气候变化中拯救无数物种,但本世纪末气温或上升超4摄氏度,进化真能在如此短时间内发挥作用吗?)”可知,前三段先抛出疑问,探讨面对快速升温,进化速度能否跟上。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Monkeyflowers are water-loving plants that live along streams, so they were hit hard by the drought. Three local populations died out. But many of those that survived evolved drought tolerance (忍耐) in just three years, with many genome mutations (基因突变).(猴面花是喜水植物,生长在溪流旁,因此旱灾对其造成重创,当地三个种群彻底灭绝。但许多存活下来的植株仅用三年时间就产生了耐旱特性,同时发生了大量基因突变)”可知,加州干旱期间猩红色猴花进化出了耐旱能力。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第六段中的“It’s very hard to show because you need three things: showing that a population is declining due to a threat, that it has adapted genetically in response and that those changes enabled it to recover. Tasmanian devils (袋獾), for example, have evolved in response to a cancer, but biologists haven’t been able to link this evolution to population recovery.(想要证实进化拯救十分困难,需要满足三个条件:证明种群因威胁数量下降、物种产生基因层面适应、且该变化帮助种群恢复。例如袋獾虽针对癌症产生进化,但科学家无法将其进化与种群恢复建立关联)”可知,作者举袋獾例子是为了佐证证实“进化拯救”存在很大难度。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第七段中的“But a three-year drought is weather, not climate. Surviving one drought doesn’t mean monkeyflowers will be able to deal with a century or more of rising temperatures. What’s more, when populations decline, they lose genetic diversity, the fuel for evolution. If hit repeatedly, their ability to evolve weakens each time.(但三年干旱只是短期天气现象,并非长期气候。熬过一次干旱不代表猴花能应对上百年升温;此外种群缩减会丢失进化所需的基因多样性,反复遭受冲击会持续削弱其进化能力)””可知,本段主要讲述依靠进化拯救物种存在诸多局限性。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Social media and the Internet are powerful tools that are an important part of our daily lives. ____32____ But, sometimes, using them too much can stress us out and negatively affect other aspects of our lives. Here are some useful ways to manage social media and Internet use and focus on our mental health. ____33____ Find out where to start reducing your social media and Internet use. Today I want to talk about unlocking excellence — not just outer success, ____52____ the inner wisdom that keeps you calm, clear and powerful, no matter what life throws at you. We all face problems: pressure, conflict, misunderstanding and ____53____ (fail). Most people let these things upset them, waste their energy and hold them back. But what if there was a simple way ____54____ (handle) almost all of life’s difficulties with ease? In psychology, there is a concept ____55____ (call) the empty boat effect. It can solve more than ninety percent of our mindset (思维模式) and emotional problems. Here’s the story. You’re sitting in a small boat, drifting (漂流) down a river. Suddenly, another boat crashes straight into you. You will become angry ____56____ (easy) if you think someone does it on purpose. But if you find it’s just an empty boat with no one on board, your anger ____57____ (disappear) at once. The boat didn’t change. The only thing ____58____ changed was how you understood the cause. The empty boat effect happens in your daily life all the time. When others speak to us impatiently, we may think they are unfriendly. In fact, they are probably ____59____ heavy pressure or busy with their own troubles. They don’t mean to hurt us. And the camera stayed on the whole time! 73. Setting ● A sunny afternoon in Stella’s yard, with an old oak tree and a fence. ________ ● Stella: Max’s owner. ● Max: a lively, naughty dog. ● Mrs. Odette: a neighbor. Theme ● ________ between pets and owners; ● Unexpected joy from daily life. Foreshadowing (伏笔) ● Max loves to play “chase” games. ● Peanut butter / tennis balls can ________ Max down. ●The camera stayed on the whole time. 74. Stella chased after him, worried a lot. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】73. ①. Characters ②. record ③. off/away ④. Bond(s)/Connection(s)/Relationship(s)/Love/... ⑤. quiet/calm 74. One Possible version: Stella chased after him, worried a lot. The camera might break. She ran and ran, but Max just kept dashing farther away. Out of breath, she stopped. Then an idea hit her — peanut butter! She held up the jar. Max froze, dropped the camera, and came running. While he licked the spoon, Stella checked the video. It was full of dizzying shots — grass, sky, and Mrs. Odette’s smiling face. Stella laughed. That was exactly the world through Max’s eyes: messy, joyful, and full of silly little moments. 2. 根据第二段“She imagined Max running happily in the yard, with the camera recording his little adventures.(她想象着马克斯在院子里快乐地奔跑,相机记录着他小小的冒险)”可知,斯特拉买了一台相机,用来记录马克斯的冒险经历,用动词record,与to构成不定式作目的状语。 3. 根据第三段“Before Stella could hold it steady, Max seized it like a shark grabbing food and ran off.(还没等斯特拉稳住它,马克斯就像鲨鱼抓食一样一把抓住,然后跑开了)”可知,马克斯抢过相机,跑开了,为“跑开,跑走”为动词短语run off/away,此空填run off/away。 4. 应用名词Bond(s)/Connection(s)/Relationship(s)或Love。 5. 根据第一段“But a spoonful of peanut butter or his old tennis ball could always turn this little troublemaker into a quiet, gentle pet.(但一勺花生酱或他那颗旧网球,总能将这个小麻烦制造成一只安静温柔的宠物)”可知,花生酱/网球可以安抚马克斯。 词汇激活 行为类 ①突然想到:an idea hit her/an idea struck her ②检查:check/examine 情绪类 ①高兴:joyful/enjoyable ②可笑的:silly/ridiculous 【点睛】【高分句型1】She ran and ran, but Max just kept dashing farther away. Now once you come back into the entrance hall, the door on the opposite side to the gift shop leads into the art gallery. There is a special exhibition there at the moment. If you continue on up the entrance hallway that leads into the main exhibition center on the back left hand side, there are some toilets. Beside the toilets, you'll find the 3d theatre。I strongly recommend that to make time for the thirty minute presentation in the theatre running along the right hand side of the main exhibition center is the modern art studio.
