From a young age, he showed a strong interest in medicine and was determined to be a doctor. After years of hard work, he graduated from medical school and began his lifelong career as a surgeon (外科医生). A significant milestone in his life was when he performed the first successful liver operation in China. Through over 70 years of hard work, he managed to treat more than 16,000 patients. He didn't just save lives; he also helped China lead the world in this field. Wu Mengchao was persistent, selfless and devoted. Even at the age of 96, he still did three operations every week. He once said, “If one day I am too tired to work, let me fall in the operating room.
