Learning Objectives
Today our topic is “My Hometown over the Years”. Some students will share something about their hometowns. Let’s join them!
Lead-in
Years ago, my hometown was small and quiet. There were no tall buildings, just small farmhouses on the farmland. The main road was a narrow dirt road, not a smooth highway. Near the village, a wooden footbridge crossed the small river. Villagers sold food at a small market on weekends. Sometimes, sandstorms came from the nearby sandy land. Kids played in the schoolyard after class.

1. Why did Wang Shanghai and his friends plant trees in Saihanba?
To protect the soil and stop the sandstorms and finally to improve the environment in Saihanba.
They are selfless, determined, and tough.
2. What do you think of them?
What other stories do you know about China’s environmental achievements?
Think and share
In the 1990s, people in Yucun Village (Zhejiang) dug stone from mountains. As a result, sandstorms covered homes, farmland became dirty, and the river lost all fish. People had money but lived with dust and coughs. With the government’s help, Yucun closed the stone sites in 2003. Villagers planted bushes and trees to fix the soil, and cleaned the river. Today, Yucun’s hills are green—hikers visit, fish swim in the river, and locals sell tea from new farmland. This result proves: caring for nature makes life better.
Life is better;
China is greater;
Future is brighter!
