make use of 是固定短语,意为“利用”,应用of。in和to均不能与make use构成此固定搭配。

be able to do sth.

根据前文“make your artworks come alive”可知,艾米在赞美莉莉的画技如同有“魔力”一般,应用magic。
although“虽然”、before“在……

be filled with 是固定短语,意为“充满”,应用with。in、of、for均不能与filled构成此固定搭配。
wonder whether...
cared for“关心”、looked for“寻找”、waited for“等待”均不符合观众赞赏表演的反应。

A terrible illness killed Mary’s parents, so she was sent to England to live with her uncle in a big old house. Mary was told she must stay in her room and not walk around freely. One night, she heard someone crying in the big house. She was curious. The next day, she walked down long halls and opened a door. A boy was lying in bed.
“Who are you?” Mary asked.
“I’m Colin,” the boy said.
“Why are you lying there? What’s wrong with you?”
“I’m so weak that I can’t stand up. And everyone says I will die soon.”
Mary looked at him carefully. “You don’t look like you will die,” she said. “You just look like a boy who gets everything he wants.” Colin was surprised. No one had ever talked to him like that.
“You must come and see me every day.” Colin said.
“I’ll come if you stop crying and acting like a baby.” Mary answered.
Then Colin smiled. For the first time, he felt someone saw him as a normal boy.
Weeks later, Mary told Colin about a locked garden. “Nobody has gone into it for ten years,” she said “I want to find the key and get inside.”
“Take me with you!” Colin cried. “I’m tired of this room. I want to see the garden.”
Mary thought for a moment. “If we go,” she said, “you must try to walk. No more lying and crying.”
Colin nodded. His heart beat fast. For the first time in his life, he wanted to live.

文章第一段指出“A terrible illness killed Mary’s parents, so she was sent to England to live with her uncle...”,直接说明了Mary被送到英国的原因是她父母死于一场重病。
A图:玛丽带着行李来到老宅,对应原文第一段“sent to England to live with her uncle in a big old house”;B图:玛丽开门看到躺在床上的男孩,对应第一段末尾“...opened a door. A boy was lying in bed”;C图:玛丽站在床边和卧床的Colin说话,Colin脑中浮现花园,对应两人聊天、玛丽说起锁起来的花园;D图:两人在郊外小河边散步,全文完全没有提到河流、郊外小路同行的情节,因此是文中未提及的画面。

Do you have such an experience? You think hard about a difficult math problem for 30 minutes and have no idea. You keep trying hard, but your mind is still empty. You give up in the end and take a warm shower. When hot water runs over your head, something surprising happens: the right answer comes to your mind all at once.
This is called “the Shower Effect (浴室效应)”. It is no magic, but a natural rule of how the brain works.
When you sit at the desk and push yourself to solve problems, your brain acts like a narrow spotlight (聚光灯), focusing only on a tiny area. You get upset if you cannot find answers here. But when you relax—like when you are taking a shower, walking the dog, or even daydreaming—your brain changes. It becomes like a wide floodlight (泛光灯). It starts looking at the whole room instead of just one corner. Your brain is amazing. Even without your active thinking, it still works secretly in the background and connects different pieces of information quietly. That explains why creative ideas often show up during relaxing moments.
In your study, you can use this effect when you have trouble solving a hard problem. First, don’t think about it for too long. Move away from the desk if you feel stuck. Second, plan short brain breaks: take a walk or enjoy soft music to free your mind. Third, prepare a small notebook nearby. When a great idea comes to you while you are relaxing, write it down before you forget it.
Remember, being a good student is not just about working hard. It is also about knowing when to stop and let your brain rest. Happy showering!
32. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving an example.
C. By comparing two things. D. By explaining a reason.
33. Why does the writer mention spotlight and floodlight?
A. To explain the way the brain works.
B. To show we need bright rooms.
C. To tell us to buy two kinds of lights.
D. To introduce two useful tools.
34. According to the passage, what may help you when you have trouble solving a hard problem?
① Playing a video game. ② Taking a walk.
③ Listening to soft music. ④ Finishing a difficult task.
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ③④ D. ①④
35. What is the best title for this passage?
A. How to Take a Shower B. When to Solve Math Problems
C. Why Rest Helps Your Brain D. What Makes Your Brain Healthy
B 33. A 34. B 35. C

根据第四段“take a walk or enjoy soft music”可知,散步(②)和听轻音乐(③)有助于解决问题。

We all know that being with friends and family is important. However, spending some time by ourselves, or what we call “alone time”, is also a meaningful part of life. It helps us grow in different ways. How does it help you? Share your stories here.
Gong Jia | Today 7:15 PM
I used to hate facing problems alone. Every time I met a difficult problem, I got nervous and ran to my parents for help right away. One day, my mom advised me to stay in my room for a few minutes first. Then I tried several times. I found that spending time alone gave me a chance to calm down and clear my mind, which helped me work out the problem better.

Li Yang | Today 8:17 PM
In the past, I had problems expressing myself. When other people had different ideas from me, I got angry easily and even shouted at them. Last month, my classmate and I discussed the show for the New Year’s Party. She wanted to sing a song, but I preferred a short play. We didn’t accept the other’s idea. This time, instead of arguing with her angrily, I chose to find somewhere to stay alone for 10 minutes. Surprisingly, I found it really useful. Being alone helped me cool down and become less angry. From then on, I knew how to express my ideas better.

Everyone wants to be a good learner, but it 1. ________ ________ easy to achieve that. ________ ________ we do to become good learners? (对划线部分提问) We should develop good learning habits. First, have clear goals. 3. ________ ________ give up easily when meeting difficulties? (一般疑问句) Of course not. Second, learn some useful skills, like taking notes or drawing mind maps. 47. ________ ________ give up easily when meeting difficulties?
48. All in all, good grades ________ ________ good learning habits.
45. ①. is ②. not
46. ①. What ②. should
47. ①. Can ②. we
48. ①. depend ②. on
49. We will make progress little by little.
原句“It is easy…”中含有be动词is,变否定句时直接在is后面加not,根据空格数量填is not。
划线部分“develop good learning habits”是做的事情,故特殊疑问词用What;原句“We should…”
依据题干上方给出的句子“We can give up…”,句中含有情态动词can,变一般疑问句时将Can提到句首,主语we不变,故填Can we。
根据所给词汇,主语是we,谓语结构是will make progress(将取得进步),状语little by little(一点一点地)通常置于句末。 We will make progress little by little。

Nowadays the internet is a necessary part of our everyday lives. However, it may have different effects on people of different ages. Many reports say that the use of the internet is bad for young people, especially children under 7 years old. But for old people, a new study shows a different side.
Researchers wanted to know how the internet affected adults over 50 years old. They collected data (数据) from nearly 90,000 old people in 23 different countries. The results show that using the internet greatly improves their mental health Old people who go online every day have much healthier minds than those who hardly ever use the internet.
The research also finds something interesting. Different groups get different benefits. For example, for old people who often stay at home and do few social activities, the internet is a window to the world. It allows them to learn something new. For old people with disabilities, moving around is hard. The internet gives them a way to have conversations with others without leaving home. It is especially useful for old people living alone. They can stay connected with family and friends on the screen anytime. Researchers believe that the internet is becoming more and more important to old adults.

Hello, everyone! Reading plays an important part in everyone’s life.
It helps us learn new knowledge and open our minds. Reading also brings us much joy. My favorite book is The Little Prince. It was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The little prince teaches me to love and be responsible. Whenever I face challenges, this book encourages me never to give up. Through reading, I have learned a lot about the world. Da Shuhua is a traditional Chinese performance often seen during festivals like the Lantern Festival and the Spring Festival. The name means “creating tree flowers”. Performers throw hot iron (铁) against a cold wall. The iron turns into thousands of sparks (火花) that look like falling flowers. Because it is very dangerous and can easily hurt people, it is called “the game of the brave”. In May 2021, it was added to China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List

Posted by SchoolHelper | Yesterday 8:00 PM

Hopefully, these findings may help old people. If we encourage them to use the internet in a proper way, we can help them solve mental problems to make their lives much better.
