The Silk Road (丝绸之路) is one of the most important historical trade routes in the world. It is not a single road, but a group of land and sea paths (通道) that connected ancient China with Europe, Africa and West Asia thousands of years ago.
The ancient road started from Chang’an (now Xi’an) and ended in Eastern Europe, near today’s Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea (地中海). It was about 6,800 kilometers long and went across one-sixth of the planet. Now it reaches 10,900 kilometers long and goes across one-fourth of the earth.
Silk was the most famous and valuable product on the road, which gave the route its name. Chinese traders sold fine silk, tea, paper and handicrafts to western countries. In return, they brought back horses, fruits, jewels and new farming skills from the West.
Besides trade, the Silk Road also acted as an important bridge for cultural exchange. People from different countries shared art, literature, science and religions along the route. It helped ancient civilizations communicate and learn from each other.
Today, the old Silk Road has been a symbol of friendship and cooperation. It reminds people of the long history of friendly communication between China and the rest of the world. It still encourages us to connect with different cultures in modern times. China is trying to build the “21st Century Marine (海洋的) Silk Road”. With the help of APEC, the dream of One Belt One Road (“the Silk Road Economic (经济的) Belt” and “21st Century Marine Silk Road”) (“一带一路”) is coming true.

In the Gaoligong Mountains in Yunnan, there lives a special kind of ape (猿) called the Skywalker hoolock gibbon (天行白眉长臂猿). Fewer than 200 of them are left in China, and their survival mainly depends on a group of volunteers from Wuliang area.
They do many things to protect gibbons. At first, there were only about 50 gibbons in the Gaoligong Mountains. Gibbons like warm, low places, but human activities made them move to cold high areas. To help them, volunteers planted trees and built small bridges. These bridges let gibbons move to better, warmer homes. They also walked deep into mountains, listening carefully for gibbons’ calls to find their hiding places. In 2010, volunteer teams used systems to watch over gibbon groups. Now, volunteers carry recording tools to collect the sounds of gibbons. These recordings not only help people tell different gibbons apart, but also help them find partners. All the information they collect helps people know more about the gibbons’ hard living conditions in the wild forest.
Volunteers work hard to guard gibbons day after day. Thanks to years of selfless volunteer work, the number of gibbons is slowly growing. Their living environment has been safer and more comfortable. These ordinary volunteers have made great achievements in wildlife protection.
44. Where do the Skywalker hoolock gibbons mainly live in China?
A. In Wuliang area. B. In cold high areas. C. In the Gaoligong Mountains.
45. How many gibbons are there in China?
A. about 50 B. less than 200. C. more than 2010
46. What is the right order of the following events?
① Volunteers planted trees and built small bridges.
② Volunteers used systems to watch over gibbon groups.
③ Volunteers carry recording tools to collect the sounds of gibbons.
A. ①②③ B. ③②① C. ③①②
47. What can the information volunteers collect do?
A. help gibbons find their partners.
B. help people tell different gibbons apart.
C. help know the gibbons’ hard living conditions.
48. What can be the best title for the text?
A. A Volunteer Program B. Living Habits of Gibbons C. Gibbons Protected by Volunteers
C 45. B 46. A 47. C 48. C
根据文章第一段第一句“In the Gaoligong Mountains in Yunnan, there lives a special kind of ape…”
根据文章第一段第二句“Fewer than 200 of them are left in China…” Fewer than 意为“少于”,与选项B中的less than同义。
根据文章第二段的时间线索排序:首先提到“To help them, volunteers planted trees and built small bridges”(①);接着提到“In 2010, volunteer teams used systems…”(②);最后提到“Now, volunteers carry recording tools…”(③)。 故选A。
根据文章第二段最后一句“All the information they collect helps people know more about the gibbons’ hard living conditions…”

We have all heard of climate change, but what is it and how does it affect our planet? Climate change, or global (全球的) warming, is the process of our planet heating up, which makes our weather extreme and harder to predict.
The WMO (世界气象组织) reported that in 2025, the global average temperature was about 1.5℃ higher than pre-industrial levels (工业化前水平), making it one of the three warmest years on record. The earlier record was broken twice, first in 2023 and again in 2024.
Climate change is mainly caused by human activities. Burning fuels like oil and gas lets out special gases. The gases hold heat from the sun and warm the Earth. This is called the Greenhouse Effect. Another cause is farming. Believe it or not, cows play a part in global warming. When cows eat, methane (甲烷), a type of greenhouse gas, builds up in their stomachs and is let out in the form of a burp (打嗝)! Imagine that there are almost 1.5 billion cows creating all that gas! What’s worse, cutting down forests means fewer trees to clean the air, which makes the planet warmer.
Rising temperatures change the Earth in dangerous ways.
Ice in the Arctic melts quickly, making it hard for polar bears and some seals to survive. Rainfall is also changing. Some places get too much rain and experience floods, while others have too little and suffer droughts. Changeable weather also brings problems to farmers growing crops.
Everyone can take small steps to fight climate change.
● Use buses or bikes instead of cars.
● Save energy by turning off lights and using less electricity.
● Plant trees and recycle.
Let’s all do our part to protect our home.
54. What is “climate change”?
________________________________________________________________
55. When was the earlier record first broken?
________________________________________________________________
56. What causes climate change?
________________________________________________________________
57. How does climate change influence polar bears and some seals?

54. Climate change is the process of our planet heating up, which makes our weather extreme and harder to predict.
55. In 2023.
56. Human activities like burning fuels, farming, and cutting down forests.
57. Ice in the Arctic melts quickly, making it hard for polar bears and some seals to survive.
58. It is harmful. We can use buses or bikes to save energy./We can plant trees and recycle./Rather than driving cars, we may choose to take buses or ride bikes to save energy./We can not only plant trees and recycle waste but also make use of clean energy including solar energy and wind power./We can share our knowledge about environmental protection with others to call on people to fight climate change./We can reduce food waste and use reusable bags, bottles and tableware instead of disposable products.
