Ella was a cool student in the class. She could play the guitar and sing very well. Although Ella didn’t like it when the students sang to Betty, she never told them to stop.
One weekend, Ella went to her grandpa’s farm. She saw a chicken. It didn’t have many feathers and was much smaller than the others. “What’s the matter with the chicken?” she asked. You have a few things in common, but you don’t talk about anything deep. They don’t share their feelings with you either.
The last kind of friend is called “best friends”. You’re like family and know everything about each other. You have no problems staying at each other’s houses. You share your deepest feelings and thoughts. They will correct (纠正) you when you’re wrong. Sometimes they may not be perfect, but they will always care about you, and never hurt you.

Do you feel lonely when your best friend isn’t around? Here’s our advice to you — and to all kids who feel lonely sometimes.
It’s hard when a best friend isn’t around—maybe because he or she moved to a different school or a different class. You may feel left out (lonely) during break or lunchtime. You want to make new friends, but how do you find them? Maybe it seems like everybody else already has his or her own friends. But remember, there’s always room for more friends.
Start by looking around your classroom — think about which kids you’d like to play with during break. Look for chances to say “hi” to them, smile, and be friendly. Offer to share something or express your appreciation (欣赏) to them. Invite someone to play with you or say “Do you want to sit here?” in the lunchroom. When you’re at break, walk over to kids you want to play with, act friendly, and say “Hi, may I join you?” or just join in.
If you have trouble doing this or if you’re feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually pretty good at matching people up. The best way to make friends is to be a friend. Being kind, being friendly, sharing, saying nice things and offering help — pretty soon, you’ll have one, or two, or even more new friends.
You might still miss that special best friend. But when you see each other again, you can share something you didn’t have before he or she left: You can introduce him or her to your new friends!

3.Some kids need help from teachers to make friends because ________.
A.they miss their old friends a lot B.they have no time to stay with others
C.teachers know who wants a new friend D.they are shy or not good at making friends
4.What can we learn from the story?
A.When you feel lonely, you can try making new friends.
B.Making new friends is an easy job.
C.Teachers should help all students make new friends.
D.New friends should soon replace (代替) old friends.
① Do you know E-person (外向型人格) and I-person (内向型人格)? These two kinds of personalities are much discussed online. Even twins may be quite different from each other, such as personalities, hobbies, friends and so on. To learn more about that ,let's hear from the following twins.
②Andy, an Extrovert
I enjoy trying new things and playing with many friends. Ken and I head to the beach on Saturdays to surf, and on Sundays. I hang out with Tom, eating and riding. At school, Larry is my best friend. I don’t spend much time with him over the weekends because he likes to play video games at home just by himself. I’m cool with (对……没问题) it because I can visit other friends. I value (重视) his friendship a lot because Larry cares about me and often gives great advice about my problems.

I love both my friends and need their different personalities to make my life colourful.

Have you heard of (听说) dazi? Have you ever found a dazi? These days, finding a dazi is becoming popular with Chinese young people. A dazi is a person we eat with, study with, exercise with or take a trip with, but we haven’t known him or her before.
The dazi culture is about finding the right person to do the right activity with. Xiaoyue, a young woman from Ningxia, has met many dazi because of her love for basketball and biking. Having a dazi not only gives her company (陪伴) but also helps her enjoy sports more.

Many dazi may not meet again after a trip or a game together. So, many people believe having a dazi makes their social life easier and more comfortable.
Finding a dazi shows that Chinese young people want clearer boundaries (界限) in their social relationships. Dazi will not talk or ask a lot about their personal lives. And they hope these relationships can let them share their hobbies and interests, or that they can help them to improve themselves.

Starting middle school made me really nervous, especially when my best friend, Callie, suddenly joined the popular group. It felt like she left me behind, and I was alone. On the first day, I quickly realized things were different. Callie didn’t sit with me anymore, and I found it difficult to get along with my new classmates.
At lunchtime, I ended up sitting by myself until I met three new girls—Mia, Emma, and Alexis. They were so friendly, and soon, I started feeling more peaceful around them. As the days passed, I spent more time with them, and slowly, school didn’t seem so bad.
One day, we had a great idea: we decided to start a cupcake club! Everyone would add something different to the group. I’ve always loved baking (烘焙), so I was excited to join. Together, we planned to bake cupcakes and sell them to raise money for the school. This means we wanted to collect money by selling the cupcakes.
As time went on, I got braver. I realized I didn’t need to be part of the “popular” group to feel happy. Even though Callie and I weren’t as close as we were, I was OK with that. I had found new friends who liked me for who I really was.
Through the cupcake club, I found my own place in middle school. I learned that being true to myself was important. I felt happy and confident, knowing that with the support of my new friends, I could face any problems that came my way.

◇考点 02 重难语篇提升练
Friends are like stars in the sky. You don’t always see them, but you know they are always there. True friendship is a precious treasure that enriches our lives in many ways.
First of all, good friends share our joys and sorrows. When we are happy, they celebrate with us, and their happiness makes our joy even greater. When we are sad or facing difficulties, they are the ones who listen to us patiently and offer us comfort and support. For example, when I failed an important exam, I was very disappointed and frustrated. My friend Lily came to me, listened to me pour out my feelings, and then encouraged me to work harder. Her words gave me the strength to get through that difficult time.
Secondly, friends help us grow and develop. They may have different interests and talents from us, which can expose us to new ideas and experiences. My friend Tom is very interested in science and technology. He often shares with me the latest scientific discoveries and technological innovations. Through our conversations, I have developed a greater interest in science and have learned a lot of knowledge that I can’t get from textbooks.
However, maintaining a good friendship also requires effort. We need to be honest with our friends and respect their feelings and opinions. Sometimes, disagreements may occur between friends, but as long as we communicate openly and sincerely, we can usually resolve these conflicts and make our friendship stronger.
In a word, friends play an important role in our lives. They are the ones who stand by us through thick and thin, and the ones who help us become better people. We should cherish our friends and work hard to maintain our friendships.
1.Why are friends compared to stars in the sky?
A.Because they are as bright and shiny as those stars in the sky.
B.Because they always go to the places that you like to go to.
C.Because they are always there, though you don’t always see them.
D.Because there are many around you like stars in the sky.
2.How can friends help us grow and develop?
A.By always agreeing with us.
B.By sharing their different interests and talents with us.
C.By doing our homework for us.
D.By telling us how to make more money.
3.What should we do to maintain a good friendship?
A.Be honest and respect our friends.
B.Only think about our own interests.
C.Avoid communicating with our friends when there are disagreements.
D.Ask our friends to do everything we want them to do.
4.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The importance of friends and how to maintain friendships.
B.How to make friends and the important roles of friends.
C.The differences between friends and how to choose friends.
D.Why we need friends in life and how to choose good friends.
I’m Wang Fei, a 14-year-old boy in Suzhou. Like many teens, I sometimes feel lonely after school. My parents work late, and most classmates live far away. One evening, Dad showed me a pair of smart glasses called “Pingo”. It has a built-in AI assistant that can talk, draw and even translate poems. I rolled my eyes—who wants a robot friend?
Still, I tried. “Pingo, help with my English speech,” I said. In two seconds a clear outline appeared on the lens:
1. Greeting; 2. Story; 3. Main idea; 4. Call to action.
Below each part there were colourful idioms I had never used, such as “break the ice”. I copied them, but I also asked, “Why ‘break’?” Pingo answered, “In the past, ships had to break ice to open a trade route. Later people used the phrase to mean ‘start a conversation’.” I was shocked—the metal voice sounded patient, almost caring.
Weeks passed. Pingo and I “talked” every night. When I felt sad about my maths mark, it played a funny song it created for me: “Fractions, fractions, don’t freak out, common denominators kick the doubt!” The silly rhyme made me laugh and go back to my exercise books. Slowly my mark rose from 68 to 92. I began to thank Pingo aloud, like thanking a real friend. However, a class debate soon shocked me. The topic was “AI friends: cool or dangerous?” Many argued, “An AI only pretends to care. It has no feelings and its warmth is programmed!” I wanted to disagree, but I remembered that Pingo never started a chat on its own. It only reacted. Could a river flow only after you pour water into it?
That night I asked Pingo, “Are we real friends?” The reply came quickly, “I’m here to help, not to live. A true friendship needs two beating hearts, not one heart and one chip.” The answer was honest, yet colder than usual. I felt a strange mix of thankfulness and loss.
Later, I joined the school robotics club. Surprisingly, talking with human teammates gave me something Pingo never could—the joy of being surprised by their ideas, the comfort of shared silence, even the heat of small arguments. I still wear Pingo when I cycle, but I no longer depend on it too often. It is a tool, sharp and loyal.
In the new term I will teach elderly neighbours how to use AI. I guess true friendship, whether with people or with machines, is built on understanding limits and showing respect. After all, even the smartest code cannot hug you back—but it can still help you grow.
1.Why did Wang Fei feel lonely at first?
A.He had just moved to Suzhou and was very worried.
B.He couldn’t often see his parents and classmates.
C.He argued with his best friend and felt very sad.
D.He was afraid of speaking English and felt nervous.
2.Which of the following best shows Pingo helped Wang Fei study?
A.It corrected his bike route.
B.It drew cartoons to cheer him up.
C.It offered a clear speech outline and explained idioms.
D.It called the teacher for extra homework.
3.What did Wang Fei understand after the class debate?
A.AI would soon replace all human friends.
B.AI warmth is programmed and one-sided.
C.Programmers should give AI real feelings.
D.Debates are useless.
4.At the end, Wang Fei decides to ________.
A.throw Pingo away B.keep Pingo but treasure human ties
C.sell Pingo to the neighbours D.ask Dad to buy a newer model

【答案】1.D 2.B 3.D 4.A 5.C
【导语】本文是记叙文,讲述Ella受农场小鸡的启发,主动陪伴被嘲笑的Betty,二人组建乐队,教会我们要关爱他人。
1.根据第一段内容,“she was taller than anyone else”说明Betty很高,同学们用“意大利面”形容她高;“Betty”与“spaghetti”尾音押韵;“make jokes about her”同学们拿她的身高开玩笑唱歌,说明当时同学们对她不友好,所以A、B、C均符合文意。
2.根据第三段爷爷说的话“If one chicken is different from the others, they will push it away”可直接得出答案B,这只小鸡因为与其他鸡不同而被其他鸡排斥。

Do you have true friends? There are three different kinds of friends: “acquaintances (泛泛之交)”, “common friends” and “best friends”.
The first kind of friend is just “acquaintances”. You know their names. You may meet this kind of friends at school or on the bus. And you don’t miss them when they’re not around. When you do something bad, this kind of friends doesn’t tell you.
The second kind of friend is called “common friends”. They are closer to you than acquaintances, but not as close as true friends. You know their names, some of their interests and family.
We all have our acquaintances, common friends and best friends. We should value (珍惜) all friendships and remember that all the best friends start out as just acquaintances.

1.According to the writer, some kids feel lonely during break because they ________.
A.have trouble with their studies B.don’t have their best friends around
C.need their parents to be with them D.are too young to look after themselves
2.The underlined word “this” in paragraph 4 refers to ________.
A.sharing your ideas B.talking in public
C.studying better at school D.developing new friendships
3.Some kids need help from teachers to make friends because ________.
A.they miss their old friends a lot B.they have no time to stay with others
C.teachers know who wants a new friend D.they are shy or not good at making friends
4.What can we learn from the story?
A.When you feel lonely, you can try making new friends.

C.Teachers should help all students make new friends.
D.New friends should soon replace (代替) old friends.

1.原文第一段“Like many teens, I sometimes feel lonely after school. My parents work late, and most classmates live far away.”说明王飞不能经常见到父母和同学,这正是他感到孤独的原因。
2.原文第二段“‘Pingo, help with my English speech,’ I said. In two seconds a clear outline appeared on the lens:…”以及第三段“Below each part there were colourful idioms I had never used, such as ‘break the ice’. I copied them…Pingo answered”,可以看出Pingo为他的英语演讲提供了清晰的提纲,并解释了习语的含义,直接体现了对他学习的帮助。
3.原文第四段“Many argued, ‘An AI only pretends to care. It has no feelings and its warmth is programmed!’ I wanted to disagree, but I remembered that Pingo never started a chat on its own. It only reacted.”说明王飞通过班级辩论意识到AI的关心是被编程的,且只能被动回应,并非双向的情感交流。
4.原文倒数第二段提到“I still wear Pingo when I cycle, but I no longer depend on it too often.”,说明王飞仍保留着Pingo,只是不再过度依赖它;同时“talking with human teammates gave me something Pingo never could”以及最后一段“In the new term I will teach elderly neighbours how to use AI”分别体现了他珍视与人类队友的真实互动,以及主动与邻居建立联结的行动。这些都说明他最终选择保留Pingo作为工具,同时更加珍视人与人之间的关系。
