Sharing common health concepts
Living a healthy lifestyle is important no matter where you are in the world. While cultures and traditions may be different from one another, certain universal habits can help you stay fit. Let’s explore some of these practices in different countries.
In China, balance is key. Traditional Chinese Medicine emphasizes the concept of yin and yang. Chinese students take a wide range of foods, including grains, lean proteins, and vegetables. Kung fu, Tai Chi and Qi Gong are popular exercises that promote physical and mental well-being. Students can practice balance, flexibility, and mindfulness through these activities.
In India, the traditional Ayurvedic system of medicine promotes a holistic approach to health. Students are encouraged to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in their meals. Yoga is widely practiced for relaxation, flexibility, and stress reduction. Meditation and breathing exercises help to improve mental well-being.
In the United States, schools provide balanced meals that meet dietary guidelines, with an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Students take part in sports, gym classes, and after-school activities to stay active. Additionally, community engagement in health clubs promotes a sense of well-being.
You can live a happy life if you eat a balanced diet, have regular physical activities, get enough sleep, and think positively.

What is your recovery rate ?
What is your recovery rate ? How long does it take you to recover from actions and behaviors that upset you ? Minutes ? Hours ? Days ? Weeks ? The longer it takes you to recover, the more influence that incident has on your actions, and the less able you are to perform to your personal best. In a nutshell, the longer it takes you to recover ,the weaker you are and the poorer your performance.
You are well aware that you need to exercise to keep your body fit. A reasonable measure of health is the speed in which your heart and lungs recover after exercise. Likewise, the faster you let go of a problem that upsets you, the faster you return to a balance, the healthier you will be. The best example of this behavior is found with professional athletes. The faster they can forget an incident or missed opportunity and get on with the game, the better they will perform. In fact, most think a recovery rate of 30 seconds is too long !
Imagine yourself to be an actor on the stage. You have been given a script and at the end of each sentence is a full stop. Each time you get to the end of the sentence, you start a new one. Although the next sentence is related to the last, it is not affected by it. Your job is to deliver each sentence to the best of your ability.
Don’t live your life in the past ! Learn to live in the present. Stop the past from influencing your daily life. Learn to recover quickly.
Remember: Rome wasn’t built in a day. Reflect on your recovery rate each day. Every day before you go to bed, look at your progress. Don’t lie in bed saying to yourself, “I did that wrong.” “I should have done better there.” No. Look at your day and note when you made an effort to place a full stop after an incident. This is a success. You are taking control of your life. Remember, this is a step by step process. Your aim: reduce the time spent in recovery.

Part B [课文解析]
Food is the fuel of life. Our bodies need food in order to work and play. But what kinds of food should we eat ? And how much is enough ? It all comes down to an important term called a “balanced diet”. A balanced diet means eating different kinds of foods in the right amount to stay in good health. It’s a sensible and healthy way of eating.
How can we have a balanced diet ? The Chinese food guide pagoda in the Chinese Dietary Guidelines gives us some answers. It has five levels. Each level shows us types of food and how much we should try to have every day.
At the bottom of the pagoda, it has grains, including cereals and potatoes. The next level is vegetables and fruits, then on the third level are animal-based foods such as fresh pork, mutton, beef, fish, and eggs. On the fourth level, there is milk and dairy along with soybeans and nuts. At the top of the pagoda is salt and cooking oil. We also need to drink lots of water to stay healthy. It’s at the base of the pagoda.
How can teenagers develop a healthy way of eating ? The guidelines offer some tips. Start the day with a healthy breakfast. Eat three or more types of food listed in the pagoda. Have milk every day.
A healthy diet is just one part of a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise, enough sleep, and dealing with pressure are also important habits for good health. They help us keep healthy, energetic, and positive.
