“If I could talk to the animals, just imagine it. Chatting to a chimp,” sang the actor Rex Harrison in the 1967 movie Doctor Dolittle.
Talking to animals might have seemed like a fantasy in the 1960s, but it may soon become possible with the help of AI.
Animals make sounds to communicate with each other. These sounds have patterns but they are hard for humans to recognize. However, AI is very good at finding patterns if it gets enough animal sounds. And because AI can look through millions of sounds to find such patterns, many scientists believe AI may soon help us find out what animals are saying.
Now, scientists are using AI to study the sounds of sperm whales. They already know that these whales make clicking sounds to recognize each other. Now, they are trying to connect the sounds AI recognized with whale behavior. They hope AI will help them understand the whale language by 2026.
Some people believe that understanding the language of animals may help protect them better. But in the meantime, it seems some animals might already want to talk to us! A study suggests that humpback whales may blow bubbles in water when meeting humans. Wouldn’t it be amazing to really talk to animals one day? With AI’s help, that day might come soon!
51. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By listing a set of numbers. B. By using a song from a movie.
C. By giving an example of a fantasy. D. By showing a beautiful picture.
52. What does AI need to recognize patterns in animal sounds?
A. The living habits of animals. B. Different kinds of animal languages.
C. Face-to-face talks with animals. D. Enough recordings of animal sounds.
53. What can we know about sperm whales from the passage?
A. They blow bubbles to greet humans. B. They make clicking sounds to recognize each other.
C. They can understand human language. D. They have the simplest communication system.
54. How does the writer feel about talking with animals in the future?
A. Difficult. B. Hopeful. C. Worried. D. Doubtful.
55. What is the best title for the passage?
A. AI may help humans talk to animals soon. B. Sperm whales are the smartest sea animals.
C. How animals learn to understand human words. D. How animals exchange their ideas.

It is one of the most valuable old Chinese buildings. It shows ancient Chinese ideas about the world and life philosophy (哲学).
In old times, Chinese leaders held big activities here. They prayed (祈祷) for good harvests (丰收) and peace for the whole country. It tells us the old Chinese thought: people are the foundation of a country. If people live a steady life, the country will stay peaceful.

These pillars stand for four seasons, twelve months, 24 solar terms and 28 constellations (星宿) in Chinese culture. Its name also shows Chinese people loved farming most in the past.
The Circular Mound Altar has three white marble (大理石) floors. Its steps and railings use number nine or its multiples (倍数), for nine was the luckiest number for ancient Chinese. Its round shape means heaven.
