Nanjing Yunjin Brocade (云锦) is a famous traditional Chinese silk art. It is famous as one of the “four brocades in China”. Its name “Yunjin” means “cloud brocade” because the material has colorful patterns like beautiful clouds in the sky.
▲ It started in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (朝代). During the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, it became very important. Emperors and important families loved it and used it to make special clothes, such as ancient dragon robes (龙袍). For centuries, Yunjin has been a symbol of Chinese culture and great weaving (编织) skills.
It is a very difficult and slow job to make Yunjin Brocade. It needs more than 100 steps. Two workers must work together on a large wooden machine. One person sits above to control the pattern, and the other sits below to weave the threads (丝线). The brocade is made of fine silk, gold threads, and even colorful peacock feathers. The patterns often show dragons and flowers, which mean good luck and a happy life.
In 2009, Nanjing Yunjin Brocade became a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (非遗). This means the world finds its great value. Today, the Nanjing Yunjin Museum helps to protect this old craft. It shows old clothes and teaches people about the history of Yunjin. Modern designers also use Yunjin to make new fashion and gifts. It makes this traditional art popular with young people.
Artisans like Zhou Shuangxi work hard to keep this tradition alive. He is a master who can copy ancient dragon robes perfectly. Thanks to their work, Nanjing Yunjin Brocade remains a treasure that connects China’s past with the present.

Do you know Liu Jingyang? Many people don’t hear of her, but she was the surprise winner of the women’s 100-meter hurdles (跨栏) at the National Games last November. The 28-year-old from Guangdong looked very modest with a short haircut and no makeup. When she got her gold medal (金牌), she even wore an old pair of running shoes.
We call Liu a “hard-working swan (天鹅).” Swans look beautiful as they sail easily across the water. But few people see what happens underwater. Under the water, their feet are paddling (划水) hard, just like Dragon Boat racers.
There is an old Chinese saying: “The sky doesn’t say how high it is, and the ground doesn’t say how deep it is.” It teaches us to be modest. Great things don’t need to show off. People will see our true ability through our actions.
I once had a student named Helen. She was very shy, so I thought her English was poor. But her written English was great! One day, we chatted in my office. After a few minutes, she relaxed and spoke beautifully. She told me she loved reading English books and watching movies. When I asked why she was so quiet in class, she said, “I don’t want to show off. I learn more by listening.”
There are many students like Helen and athletes like Liu Jingyang. They are quiet and modest, but we should never underestimate them. Just like swans, they are working furiously under the water.
58. Why does the writer compare Liu Jingyang to a swan?
A. Because they run very fast. B. Because they share the same spirit.
C. Because they are both beautiful. D. Because they come from Guangdong.
59. Which of the following behaviors matches “modest”?
A. Tom always helps others. B. Jack never comes late to class.
C. Amy says “thank you” every day. D. Lily gets first but she says it is luck.
60. What can we learn about Helen from the passage?
A. She is too shy to speak English.
B. She is silent and poor at writing in English.
C. She works hard on English but never shows off.
D. She likes English very much and shows herself in class.
61. What can be the best title of the passage?
A. A Hard-working Swan B. A Modest Student
C. A Show-off Athlete D. A Quiet Girl

Nowadays, AI is very popular in Chinese schools. A great example is the “AI Smart English Learning Helper (ASELH)”. It helps students learn English in a better way. In the past, teachers taught everyone the same thing. But every student is different. This AI tool solves this problem.
How does the AI tool work? It uses smart computer programs to make a special learning plan for you. For example, if you often have problems with grammar (语法), the AI will know and give you special exercises to practice. It is like a personal teacher with you all the time. You can talk to it, take photos of your homework, and get help right away. It can even practice speaking with you. You can role-play fun situations, like ordering food or buying something.
It’s great because it makes learning faster and easier. You can focus on your problems instead of doing easy work again and again. It also makes learning fun by giving you some rewards (奖励). However, people still have questions about it: If students use AI too much, will they stop thinking? The AI needs personal data (数据) to work, is it safe?
In the future, AI will not replace (替代) human teachers. Instead, they will work together. AI can help with practice and knowledge, while human teachers will care for students and teach them to be creative. This teamwork will make education better for everyone.
62. What do we use the “ASELH” for?
A. Replacing human English teachers. B. Making special learning plans for students.
C. Teaching the students the same things. D. Helping the students to do easy work.
63. Here are the lists about what the AI tool can help you. Which is right?
a. Do morning and eye exercises.
b. Take photos to help with homework.
c. Practice talking in a restaurant or a shop.
d. Ask the teachers for help in class.
e. Prepare more grammar exercises.
A. acd B. bce C. bde D. abe
64. What do people worry about when using AI tools?
A. Students will learn English slowly. B. Students will get fun when studying.
C. Students will lose personal data. D. Students will not think on their own.
65. What can we learn about AI from the last paragraph?
A. It will work instead of teachers.
B. It will teach students to be creative.
C. It will help teachers teach students better.
D. It will become the teachers who can care for students.

It was a cold winter night. The statue (雕像) of the Happy Prince stood high above the city. A Swallow (燕子) was flying to warm Egypt with his friends, but he fell behind and got lost. He stopped and rested between the feet of the Happy Prince’s statue.
Suddenly, a warm drop of water fell on the Swallow. He looked up and found the Prince was crying. The Prince told him about a poor family nearby — a little boy was sick with a fever, and his hungry mother had nothing to give him. The Prince asked the Swallow to take the big red ruby from his sword to help them.
The Swallow really wanted to leave for Egypt. But he felt sorry for the poor boy and the crying Prince, so he agreed to stay one night. He flew to the small house, put the ruby on the table, and waved his wings to cool the boy down. Soon, the boy fell into a peaceful sleep.
When the Swallow flew back to the statue, he said, “It’s very cold outside, but I feel warm in my heart.” The Prince smiled, “That is because you have done a good deed.”
The next evening, the Swallow came to say goodbye, but the Prince looked down at the city again. The Prince saw a young writer in a cold house. The man was hungry and cold, and he could not finish his work. The Prince begged the Swallow to stay one more night and give one of his sapphire eyes to the writer. Touched by the Prince’s kindness, the Swallow agreed again.
