Understanding and respecting others' point of view is a rare quality. But so often we are caught up in our own way of seeing things that we _41_ — at least I have — that there is _42_ another point of view.
I could always count on my grandfather to show me a _43_ way of seeing things. For a man of his age, his mind remained _44_ and he was always willing to learn something _45_. Yet, this openness didn't mean he accepted every change without reservation.
One afternoon, while we were looking up at the sky, I turned to grandpa with a _46_. "Isn't it incredible that we have actually sent men to the moon and back?"
"Well, yes. I don't _47_ the achievement," he hesitated. "But to be honest, it was a _48_ day for me when men landed on the moon." I was totally _49_ by his answer.
Grandpa went on, "Years ago, before we had such _50_, it was the moon that we looked to for _51_. We worked outside and traveled by its light; we planted and harvested by its phases; we looked to it to forecast the weather. There was something _52_ about it." Then he added, "But landing on it showed us there was nothing there. All I knew about the moon disappeared. The ancient guide we _53_ was nothing but a dead rock. That broke my heart."
Grandpa's eyes held such sadness — I just can't _54_ that image even now. However, when he was finished that day, I was more _55_ to some things I had never considered before.

Passage 2

I was watching Portrait Artist of the Year when I first heard the expression "tinker time". In case you've not seen this _21_, each week a group of artists have to paint a portrait in four hours. They are divided into three groups, each having a different celebrity _22_ for them.
It was getting to the _23_ moments. The camera focused on one of the artists. I can't remember his name or which celebrity he was painting, I do remember thinking his painting looked _24_ but he was still adding tiny touches to it. He said it was tinker time. I _25_ wrote down those two words in my notebook.
Tinker time, I think, is what we do when writing, or what we should do. I finish a short story. I leave it until the next day and _26_ it again to edit and do some _27_. That's the main part over with.
The following day I take another look at the _28_. I check all my punctuation and spellings. I read each sentence _29_, and out loud. Reading aloud makes such a difference. It's easier to spot _30_ that way.
A few days later I _31_ the story and I guess this is when I spend some tinker time on it. It seems fully done but, if I tinker a little more, could I _32_ it? This is when I might decide a word could be _33_. For instance, is fear the word I want or would terror be more powerful? _34_, there is nearly always a little something that can be improved on, just like those final tiny touches in the _35_.
I shall leave this now and come back in a few days to spend some tinker time on it.
