“I’ll never have time to learn this hard lesson. I can’t finish it by tomorrow,” Robert told Frank after class.
“You have 10 minutes before lunch. Why not start now?” asked his brother.
“10 minutes is nothing! And I need to run with my dog Rover,” replied Robert.
After lunch, they walked back to school. Frank read his book while walking, but Robert watched for birds in trees.
When school ended, friends shouted, “Come to play football!” Robert ran away with the boys. Frank said he’d join the boys in 15 minutes, took out his book again, and after finishing studying, he played and had fun.
The two brothers were tired that evening, and went to bed early. The next day, Frank knew the lesson well, but Robert told the teacher he had no time to learn it.
“How did you find time, Frank?” the teacher asked.
“10 minutes before lunch yesterday, 20 minutes on the way back to school, 15 minutes before football. Then 10 minutes to review before bed, and 5 minutes before breakfast today,” Frank answered.
“That’s one hour of practice,” replied his teacher. “Frank, you may run and play at break time. Robert, you will spend break time learning that lesson. And you will continue to do that until you have learnt this important lesson: People who value minutes will have time to control their own hours.”
56. Who played football with the boys after finishing studying?
A. Frank. B. Robert. C. Frank’s friend. D. Robert’s teacher.
57. What happened when Frank and Robert went back to school the next day?

Have you ever wondered if an egg can float in water? This fun and easy experiment will show you the answer! Follow the simple steps below and see the magic.
What you need
* 1 clear glass cup
* Water (about 2/3 of the cup)
* 1 fresh egg
* A small bowl of salt (about 5 spoons)
* A spoon
How to do it:
Step 1 Pour the water into the clear glass cup. Gently put the fresh egg into the water. What do you see? The egg sinks to the bottom of the cup right away.
Step 2 Take 2 spoons of salt from the bowl and add them to the water. Use the spoon to stir (搅拌) the water slowly until the salt disappears in the water. Look at the egg—does it move? It still stays at the bottom.
Step 3 Add 3 more spoons of salt to the water and stir again. Keep stirring until all the salt disappears in the water. Now watch the egg carefully. What happens? The egg slowly rises up and finally floats on the surface of the water!
Why it happens:
Water has a certain “power” to hold things up—we call this “buoyancy”. When we add salt to water, the water becomes “heavier”, and its buoyancy gets stronger. The fresh egg is heavier than plain (普通的) water, so it sinks. But when the water has enough salt, its buoyancy becomes stronger than the egg’s weight. That’s why “it” can make the egg float.
59. Which of the following do you need for Step 1?
A. Salt. B. A spoon. C. An egg. D. A bowl.
60. What should you do in Step 2?
A. Pour water into the cup. B. Add salt and stir until it disappears.
C. Make the egg float. D. Take the egg out of the water.
61. Why can the egg float in the water finally?
A. Because the cup helps the egg to float. B. Because stirring makes the egg rise up.
C. Because the egg becomes lighter in the water. D. Because salt makes the water much more powerful.
C
When you chat with classmates about your weekend trip to the zoo or read a storybook about a talking rabbit before bedtime, stories are always around you. Stories are part of our daily lives—let’s learn about storytelling and the different kinds of stories we love.
* Storytelling
Storytelling is the activity of telling or writing stories. Stories can be real or made up, can be long or short, and can be about any subject. People have always told stories to please each other or to tell people about their world.
* Oral history
Early people couldn’t read or write, so they shared stories by talking to pass history. They even acted out parts, like how their people hunted. People still do this today. For example, grandparents talk about their old games and use hands to show how they played with diabolos (空竹).
* Fairy tales
A fairy tale is a story that includes magic and characters such as fairies, witches, goblins (地精) or giants. Fairy tales tell stories of the fight between good and evil, and usually have a happy ending. Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf are all examples of fairy tales.
* Adventure stories
The main characters often go on journeys, like exploring a deep forest or finding hidden treasure. They may face small challenges (like crossing a small river) but stay brave. Robinson Crusoe (a man living alone on an island) is a classic adventure story. These stories make you want to keep reading to see what happens next.
* Animal stories
Many stories feature animals as their main characters. These animals speak and dress like real people, although they often live in animal homes.
62. How did early people mainly pass on stories according to the passage?
A. Writing events on the stone. B. Drawing pictures on the wall.
C. Telling stories to one another. D. Making marks on the wood.
63. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. A fairy tale usually has a pleasant ending.
B. The Boy Who Cried Wolf is an animal story.
C. A made-up story should be as long as possible.
D. The Chinese story of Pangu is about a real event.
64. What do all types of stories (oral history, fairy tales, adventure stories and animal stories) have in common?
A. They all include magic characters.
B. They all are passed on only by writing.
C. They all can be used to tell people about the world.
D. They all have animal main characters.
65. Which part of a magazine may the passage come from?
A. Health. B. Animal. C. Science. D. Culture.

Do you compare yourself to other people? Perhaps your best friend receives something you really want, or you’re not allowed to go to a concert but your brother or sister is. Even though comparisons (对比) are common and can sometimes be helpful, focusing on your own progress is important for your happiness.
“We often compare ourselves to others who are doing better or not as well as ourselves,” says Dr. Jack. “But I suggest comparing yourself to your past self and your future self. This can make you feel proud of what you’ve achieved and excited about what you might do. Focusing on your own purposes is more worthwhile than always trying to come out on top.”
Comparing yourself to those around you is natural and we often do it without realizing it. It can help us to be clear about our achievements and to form friendships with new people who have similar interests. However, it’s important to remember that nobody is perfect. It’s also important to notice how the comparison affects your feelings. “If you begin to feel unhappy, focus on your own strengths,” says Jack. In other words, you can ask yourself questions like “What can I do well in?” It can help you trust yourself.
Maybe here you are wondering “What if all my friends are better than me?” Dr. White says that jealousy (妒忌) is not bad, but focusing on bettering your own work can help you feel successful. He also mentions that learning to celebrate your friends’ success can not only help to cheer your friends up but also help you feel good. It will encourage you to build each other up.
66. What does the writer tell us in Paragraph 1?
A. We should compare with others. B. We should share things with brothers.
C. We should enjoy concerts with sisters. D. We should focus on our own progress.
67. Why should you compare yourself to your past self?
A. To care about others. B. To change your purposes.
C. To increase your excitement. D. To be proud of your achievements.
68. What does the underlined phrase “your own strengths” probably mean in Paragraph 3?
A. What you’re good at. B. What you’ve understood.
C. What you’re crazy about. D. What you’ve experienced.
69. What does Dr. White suggest?
A. Trusting your friends. B. Forming a deep friendship.
C. Cheering on tiny success. D. Celebrating others’ success.

第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Here comes a bus with black ears, round eyes and a big nose. A group of passengers excitedly get on the bus. About a minute later, the bus begins self-driving.
At a slow speed, the bus runs along a straight road and stops at red lights before parking at the next stop. With the cute and lovable appearance of a giant panda, this black-and-white bus is called “Panda Bus”. Passengers can get on the bus through a fingerprint recognition (指纹识别) system. They can also buy food on the bus. A robot on the bus can talk with passengers. It always gives proper solutions to passengers’ problems like planning routes (线路) and telling them where to get off. Besides that, when it finds out bad behavior like stealing, it’ll record it at once. The bus runs on clean energy. It’s good for the environment. While it is self-driving, it uses its smart cameras and sensors (传感器) to “see” the world. These tools help the bus watch the road, other cars, and even people walking. So the bus can stop safely when it meets obstacles (障碍) and follows traffic rules carefully.
The AI-based “Panda Bus” was developed by DeepBlue Technology, China’s leading AI company. It has already hit the road in some cities across China. DeepBlue has also begun selling smart buses abroad. “There’s still a long way to go before the technology becomes more widely used,” says Chen Haibo, CEO of DeepBlue.

When you chat with classmates about your weekend trip to the zoo or read a storybook about a talking rabbit before bedtime, stories are always around you. Stories are part of our daily lives—let’s learn about storytelling and the different kinds of stories we love.
* Storytelling
Storytelling is the activity of telling or writing stories. Stories can be real or made up, can be long or short, and can be about any subject. People have always told stories to please each other or to tell people about their world.
* Oral history
Early people couldn’t read or write, so they shared stories by talking to pass history. They even acted out parts, like how their people hunted. People still do this today. For example, grandparents talk about their old games and use hands to show how they played with diabolos (空竹).
* Fairy tales
* Adventure stories
The main characters often go on journeys, like exploring a deep forest or finding hidden treasure. They may face small challenges (like crossing a small river) but stay brave. Robinson Crusoe (a man living alone on an island) is a classic adventure story. These stories make you want to keep reading to see what happens next.
* Animal stories
Many stories feature animals as their main characters. These animals speak and dress like real people, although they often live in animal homes.

70. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Plan Your Own Future B. Enjoy Your Own Happiness
