人教选择性必修第一册 Unit 4 Body language 阅读理解 [2021·浙江1月考,阅读C篇] Researchers say they have translated the meaning of gestures that wild chimpanzees(黑猩猩) use to communicate. They say wild chimps communicate 19 specific messages to one another with a “vocabulary” of 66 gestures. The scientists discovered this by following and filming groups of chimps in Uganda, and examining more than 5,000 incidents of these meaningful exchanges. Dr Catherine Hobaiter, who led the research, said that this was the only form of intentional communication to be recorded in the animal kingdom. Only humans and chimps, she said, had a system of communication where they deliberately sent a message to another group member. “That’s what’s so amazing about chimp gestures,” she said. “They’re the only thing that looks like human language in that respect.” Although previous research has shown that apes and monkeys can understand complex information from another animal’s call, the animals do not appear to use their voices intentionally to communicate messages. This was a significant difference between calls and gestures, Dr Hobaiter said. Chimps will check to see if they have the attention of the animal with which they wish to communicate. In one case, a mother presents her foot to her crying baby, signaling: “Climb on me.” The youngster immediately jumps on to its mother’s back and they travel off together. “The big message from this study is that there is another species (物种) out there that is meaningful in its communication, so that’s not unique to humans,” said Dr Hobaiter. Dr Susanne Shultz, an evolutionary biologist from the University of Manchester, said the study was praiseworthy in seeking to enrich our knowledge of the evolution of human language. But, she added, the results were “a little disappointing”. “The vagueness of the gesture meanings suggests either that the chimps have little to communicate, or we are still missing a lot of the information contained in their gestures and actions,” she said. “Moreover, the meanings seem to not go beyond what other animals convey with non-verbal communication. So, it seems the gulf remains.” ( )27.What do chimps and humans have in common according to Dr Hobaiter? A.Memorizing specific words. B.Understanding complex information. C.Using voices to communicate. D.Communicating messages on purpose. ( )28.What did Dr Shultz think of the study? A.It was well designed but poorly conducted. B.It was a good try but the findings were limited. C.It was inspiring but the evidence was unreliable. D.It was a failure but the methods deserved praise. ( )29.What does the underlined word “gulf” in the last paragraph mean? A.Difference. B.Conflict. C.Balance. D.Connection. ( )30.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Chimpanzee behaviour study achieved a breakthrough B.Chimpanzees developed specific communication skills C.Chimpanzees: the smartest species in the animal kingdom D.Chimpanzee language: communication gestures translated 【文章大意】 本文是一篇说明文,文章主要介绍了科学家们通过长期的研究,发现大猩猩们能通过多种肢体语言来进行猩猩之间的沟通与交流。 根据文章第二段“Only humans and chimps, she said, had a system of communication where they deliberately sent a message to another group member.” 根据文章第六段“Dr Susanne Shultz…the study was praiseworthy in seeking to enrich our knowledge of the evolution of human language. But, she added, the results were ‘a little disappointing’.” 根据文章最后一段“‘Moreover, the meanings seem to not go beyond what other animals convey with non-verbal communication.’” 根据文章全文,特别是第一段“Researchers say they have translated the meaning of gestures that wild chimpanzees(黑猩猩) use to communicate.” 七选五 [2025·浙江1月考] One of the most common mistakes in communication is trying to do too much. 36. There􀆳s no value in delivering any kind of communication, whether written, spoken, formal, or informal, if the message doesn􀆳t come across clearly. Being clear and brief—while maintaining interest and including everything your listeners need to know—is a high-level communication skill.   Here are some tips worth following in order to communicate more effectively. ·Keep your audience in mind. Your audience will naturally be more interested and engaged when you tailor your communications to their interests. 37. This will engage their desire to understand and interact with the information.  ·Don􀆳t use ten words when one will do. Even the most engaged and committed audience will eventually get bored. Keeping your message simple and clear will make it easier for people to understand.38. However, they􀆳re hearing it for the first time. Keep it simple.  ·39.     If you􀆳ve ever worked as an instructor, manager, trainer or coach, you􀆳ll know that there are few better ways to learn new information than to teach it. Ask the audience to contribute their ideas or to take a role in explaining new concepts and policies to others. Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills. ·Consider the best method to deliver your message. If the information you􀆳re communicating isn􀆳t urgent, consider sending an e-mail. Written communication will give your audience more time to review it, think it over, and follow up with questions. 40.     Building effective communication skills takes time, but the effects are worth the effort. A.Be patient. B.Get the audience involved. C.The best messages are often simple. D.Speak directly to what matters to them. E.You may be surprised by what your listeners offer. F.It will also give them a handy record to refer back to. G.As the speaker, you already know what you􀆳re going to say. 38.G 空后句子包含转折词however,说明空格处的内容与“…hearing it for the first time.” F“It will also give them a handy record to refer back to.” [2020·全国卷II] Emoji(表情符号) and workplace communication In Asia, messaging platforms are growing rapidly, with users in the hundreds of millions, both at work and play. 36. . It’s been reported that 76 per cent of employees in some western countries are using emojis at work.  Written communications can often read as cold and dull. Using emojis can add humour and feeling, keeping intention clear. 37. , encouraging better and more frequent communication.  In any given office, employees can range from age 22 to 70 and beyond, and finding common ground in communication style can be a challenge. 38. . While the younger generations prefer to communicate visually, for those used to working with traditional tools like e-mail, it may feel like a learning curve(曲线). The good news is that it’s simple to learn and can be worth the effort.  There is also the matter of tone(语气). Who hasn’t received an e-mail so annoying that it ruined an entire day? 39. . Emoji can help communication feel friendlier, and even a serious note can be softened with an encouraging smile.  40. , and emoji can contribute directly to that positive outcome. And when your employees begin adding smiling emojis to their business communication, you’ll know you have succeeded in improving your work culture.  A.Messages with emojis feel more conversational B.Even a formal e-mail can seem cold and unfriendly C.Sending smiling faces to colleagues may seem strange D.The popularity of these platforms is spreading globally E.Giving employees the tools enables them to communicate honestly F.Studies show that friendlier communication leads to a happier workplace G.An easy way to bring all work generations together is with a chat platform 【文章大意】 本文是一篇说明文。 36.D 由空前“In Asia, messaging platforms are growing rapidly, with users in the hundreds of millions, both at work and play.” 37.A 根据上一句 “Using emojis can add humour and feeling, keeping intention clear.” 38.G 根据上一句中提到的“…employees can range from age 22 to 70 and beyond…”和a challenge以及下一句中提到的“While the younger generations…” 39.B B选项中的“…a formal e-mail can seem cold and unfriendly”与空前句子中的an e-mail so annoying呼应,且unfriendly与空后句子中的friendlier形成对比。 40.F 根据下文“And when your employees begin adding smiling emojis to their business communication, you’ll know you have succeeded in improving your work culture.”
