Unit 2 HEALTHY LIFESTYLE (限时:35分钟) ●Ⅰ 阅读理解 A [2025·重庆市高三第三次模拟] 文体:记叙文 主题:人与社会 词数:278 In June, Andrés Torres won the Basque Culinary World Prize—often called the “Nobel Prize of cooking”. Casa Nova, the restaurant where he works, is a temple to the art of slow, soulful cooking. It’s the kind of place that, using only what is naturally abundant, relies on age-old methods and the particularities of a region’s land, climate and cultures. Many of Torres’ cooking techniques fit in with his commitment to sustainability. He has seen enough of the world to know how vital it is to preserve the planet’s resources. “Sustainability is very popular in restaurants all over the world,” he says. “But there’s a lot of nonsense out there. For me, sustainability is something very simple.” To that end, Casa Nova has egg-laying hens, beehives(蜂房) to make honey, and an enormous vegetable land. So far, admittedly, these have been fairly standard eco practices. But Torres even produces his own salt, risking out in a boat to collect Mediterranean seawater. He’s created a stone “insect hotel” to support pest-eating insects that protect crops without the need for pesticides (杀虫剂). Rainwater is gathered in containers previously used to mature wine, and then used on the vegetables. Plates and cups are made by Torres’ wife. And instead of using dehydrators (脱水剂),as many high-end restaurants and industrial producers do, Torres built his own drying room and smokehouse. Environmentalism is only part of the story he wants to tell. The restaurant he runs helps fund Global Humanitaria, a nonprofit he set up in 1999 to support education and children’s rights across the world and provide emergency relief for victims of conflict and natural disasters. ( )1.What is special about Casa Nova? A.Its unique location. B.Its artistic decoration. C.Its self-sufficient cooking. D.Its centuries-old history. ( )2.What does Torres think of sustainability in restaurants? A.It’s crucial and workable. B.It’s widespread and effective. C.It’s unsystematic and immature. D.It’s unnecessary and impractical. ( )3.According to Torres, which behaviour is more sustainable? A.Using pesticides to protect crops. B.Buying salt from local markets. C.Building high-end smokehouses. D.Watering the vegetables with rainwater. ( )4.What is the purpose of the Global Humanitaria? A.To share individual dining experiences. B.To fund Torres’ restaurant operations. C.To develop new cooking techniques. D.To promote public benefit initiatives. B [2025·河南省八市高三考前适应性考试] 文体:说明文 主题:人与社会 词数:328 A new study published in Nature Medicine has revealed a significant link between diet and healthy aging. The study focused on how maintaining a diet rich in plant-based foods, along with a low to moderate (适度的) intake of healthy animal-based foods and a reduced intake of highly processed foods, can lead to healthy aging. Healthy aging, in this context, means reaching 70 years old without major ongoing diseases and maintaining good physical, and mental health. Previous studies investigated dietary patterns in the context of specific diseases or people’s lifespan (寿命). This research takes a broader view. Frank Hu, a professor at Harvard Chan School, said, “Our study asks how diet impacts people’s ability to live independently and enjoy a good quality of life as they age.” The researchers analysed data from over 105,000 women and men aged 39-69 in the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study over 30 years. Participants regularly filled out dietary question sheets, which were scored based on their following of eight healthy dietary patterns. These patterns emphasized high intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and more. The study also evaluated the intake of over-processed foods, which are often unhealthy. The study found that 9.3% of the participants aged healthfully. Among the healthy diets, those with the highest AHEI (Alternative Healthy Eating Index) scores had a much greater likelihood of healthy aging compared to those with the lowest scores. Another beneficial diet was the Planetary Health Diet Index (PHDI). Alternatively, higher intake of highly-processed foods was related to lower probabilities of healthy aging. Co-corresponding author Marta Guasch-Ferré stated that research on healthy aging is crucial as staying active and independent matters for both individuals and public health. The lead author, Anne-Julie Tessier, added that there’s no one-size-fits-all diet, and healthy diets can be adjusted according to personal needs. Despite its contributions, the study only included health professionals, and further research among diverse populations is needed. ( )5.What did past studies mainly tell us? A.Diet shapes the quality of the life of the old. B.Diet affects healthy aging through food intake. C.Diet determines one’s independent living ability. D.Diet patterns can influence how long people live. ( )6.How is the study conducted? A.By analysing existing data. B.By doing lots of surveys. C.By carrying out experiments. D.By making comparisons. ( )7.What does the result of the new study tell us? A.Processed foods shorten humans’ lives. B.Low PHDI scores reduce aging odds. C.High PHDI scores ensure that one may age well. D.AHEI scores top others for healthy aging. ( )8.What does Anne-Julie Tessier say about the new study? A.It holds true everywhere. B.It has certain limitations. C.It suggests a healthier diet. D.It possesses deep meaning. ●Ⅱ 语法填空 [2025·湖北省高三信息卷(四)] 文体:说明文 主题:人与社会 词数:224 Many scientists believe our love of sugar may actually be an addiction.
