一、阅读理解
(24-25八年级下·北京大兴·期末)Riya spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. She found it hard to make new friends and get used to new teachers. She felt the huge buildings were too huge. She decided that she would just remember where her classes were and then try to put the rest of the places out of her mind. All of these changed after a P.E. class.
One day in P.E. class, the coach said that everyone had to run one mile around the track (跑道). Riya searched the faces of her classmates for signs of worry. There was nothing she was afraid of more than having to run a whole mile.
When the coach blew his whistle (吹口哨), Riya thought most of her classmates would pass her. “It’s just the beginning.” she thought, “I’ll come in last for sure. But what should I do? I cannot just stop here”.
Riya started using a mind trick (技巧) on herself. She stopped thinking about the word “mile”. Instead, she decided to first reach the big tree up ahead. Then she ran to the place where the track turned. After that, she tried to see if she could finish her first lap (跑道的一圈). One lap turned into two, then three, then four. When the coach gave her a high five and said “Nice work”, Riya was surprised. She could not believe that she had just run a whole mile.
As Riya walked back to the school building after P.E., she noticed that she felt less worried about its size. Maybe she would come to know the buildings one after another. All her other worries about new school life seemed to disappear as well because she knew that she would solve problems one lap at a time just like the one-mile run.
1.How was the first week of high school for Riya?
A.Relaxing. B.Difficult. C.Fantastic. D.Boring.
2.What did Riya have to do in her P.E. class?

3.What can we know from Paragraph 4?
A.Riya decided to first reach where the track turned. B.The coach taught Riya a mind trick before the run.

(25-26八年级下·北京·期末)When I was organizing my clothes, I accidentally found a set of Hanfu I only wore once. Since a Chinese friend gave me a set of ancient-style hair accessories (配饰), I matched a whole set of Hanfu. Then, ancient-style articles appeared in my clothes one after another. When I saw them again, I thought of a sentence: I may have been caught by the “birdcage (鸟笼) effect”!
“Birdcage effect (BCE)” is one of the top ten psychological (心理的) problems that human beings cannot easily deal with. BCE means that when you get something one day, you will probably prepare more things to match it. There is a story behind it. One day, James, a psychologist, joked with his friend Carlson and predicted that Carlson would surely raise a bird. At first, Carlson didn’t care. When James gave Carlson a birdcage on his birthday, friends who visited Carlson’s house believed that he had raised birds. During that process, Carlson kept explaining. In the end, he really bought a bird. Like Carlson, many people have been or are being caught in the BCE.
My friend Tinny said she wanted to buy a good pen to match a pretty notebook her sister gave her. I joked that she must have been caught in the BCE. But my friend said with a smile, “Why not use the birdcage effect instead? When I have a beautiful notebook, I will want to buy a pen that is smooth and easy to write, and next I will want to buy a book I like, and then start to take notes.”
For the first time, I heard that the BCE could be used in reverse. However, this reminded me of my middle school days, and I seemed to have used the BCE. One day, I bought a magazine and saw the call for writings published in the magazine, so I started writing. After that, I bought a beautiful notebook to record my feelings. More and more magazines appeared in my study, and my interest in writing increased.
How can we stop being caught in the BCE in many things and even use it? Various “birdcages” unavoidably appear in life, but we can divide them. If it is not in line with (与……一致) the actual situation, it is a “negative birdcage”, so we must learn to stop losses in time. If it is “positive birdcage” that drives us to develop upward, we can clear our goals up and encourage ourselves to move towards our goals. At this time, we will find that the BCE is actually not terrible!
4.Why does the writer talk about Hanfu in Paragraph 1?
A.To describe her life style. B.To explain the origin of BCE.
C.To introduce Chinese culture. D.To show an example of the BCE.
5.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The term BCE came from Carlson’s story.
B.James used the BCE to record his feelings.
C.Tinny was caught in the BCE so she bought a good pen.
D.The writer bought a book because he was caught in the BCE.
6.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.The Birdcage Effect: Why Is It So Terrible?
B.The Birdcage Effect: Why Are We Caught in It?
C.The Birdcage Effect: How to Avoid It in Your Life?
D.The Birdcage Effect: How to Use It to Your Advantage?

(24-25八年级下·北京海淀·期末)Housework is often viewed as a dull and endless chore, keeping us from more enjoyable activities. However, this seemingly simple set of tasks hides many benefits that can greatly contribute to our overall well-being.
Physically, housework offers more than just light exercise. Take wringing a mop as an example. This simple act works the forearm muscles (肌肉) and increases holding strength, which is important as we age. According to The Journal of Physical Therapy Science, such muscle exercise, often performed unconsciously (无意识地) during housework, can greatly improve forearm muscle endurance (耐力). Studies suggest that regular middle-level-effort housework can be as effective as wringing a mop light weight training, particularly in building muscles in the back and shoulders.
The benefits of housework to mental health are also noteworthy. Tidying a messy room can bring us a clear-headed feeling. Creating order from mess helps us feel in control. Research in The Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that people who spent just 15 minutes organizing their workspace had lower stress levels than those who remained in a messy place. Cooking also offers mental rewards. Focusing on chopping vegetables, measuring ingredients, and following a recipe is a form of mindfulness. Moreover, the joy of preparing and sharing a meal brings us a sense of achievement.
Housework also helps with social connections and brain function. When families share chores, they communicate, cooperate, and support each other, strengthening relationships. Children learn responsibility and teamwork from an early age. Furthermore, doing housework can improve executive functions, like deciding which room to clean first or how to cook a meal step by step. These can help train the brain to stay active and organized.Research shows that doing housework at least three times a week lowers the risk of older adults’ brain problems.
In short, housework is far more than a boring duty. It improves physical fitness, mental health, social connections, and brain function. By recognizing these benefits, we can view housework not as a burden (负担) but as a valuable effort for a better life.
7.According to the passage, what is a key benefit of wringing a mop?
A.It builds muscle strength of the legs. B.It offers a conscious muscle exercise.
C.It improves forearm muscle endurance. D.It helps to lose weight more quickly.
8.What does the writer probably agree with?
A.Doing housework instead of fun things is a huge burden.
B.Chopping vegetables helps reduce stress better than cleaning.
C.Seeing housework as a simple duty harms family relationships.
D.Tidying workspace improves sense of control and lowers stress.
9.The underlined expression “executive functions” in Paragraph 4 probably means“________.”
A.the ability to make decisions and plans
B.the talent to set goals to control emotions
C.the ability to be active and free from stress
D.the talent to lower the risk of brain problems
10.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To explain important research findings on housework.

(25-26九年级上·北京西城·开学考试)When I was twelve, our school announced a project to help the community. Each student should come up with an idea to make our neighborhood a better place. At first, I wasn’t sure what to do. But one day, while walking home, I noticed something: there were no places for children to read outside of school. That’s when I decided to build a little free library.
I shared my idea with my parents, and they backed me every step of the way. My dad helped me find some old wood in the garage, and my mom donated a few books. At first, I was excited, but as I started building, I realized it wasn’t as easy as I thought. The wood was heavy, and I didn’t know how to use the tools properly. I felt discouraged and wanted to give up. But my dad encouraged me. “Take it one step at a time,” he said. “You’ll figure it out.”
After weeks of hard work, the little library was finally ready. It was a small wooden box with a door, painted bright blue. I filled it with books and placed it in the park near my house. On the first day, I stood nearby to see if anyone would use it. Hours passed, and no one came. I felt disappointed and wondered if my idea had been a waste of time.
The next morning, I walked by the park and saw something that made me stop. A little girl was sitting on a bench, holding one of the books from the library. She was smiling and completely lost in the story. My heart swelled with pride. Over the next few days, more children and even some adults visited the library. They borrowed books, left notes, and even donated some of their own.
By the end of the project, my little library had become a beloved part of the neighborhood, proving that even small efforts can lead to something truly meaningful. Seeing others enjoy the library made all the hard work feel completely worthwhile.

(25-26九年级上·北京·开学考试)①In the 1966 science-fiction (科幻) film Fantastic Voyage, a team of scientists and doctors are put into the body of an ill man to fix his body.
②Such an idea, while fun, sounds surprising to many. But what if it were possible to treat an illness like cancer (癌症) by putting tiny pieces of something into the body to not only find the cancer, but also destroy it without harming anything else? Although it may seem like science fiction, tools like this are now being developed and may, in fact, become common in the near future—thanks to research now being done in the field of nanotechnology (纳米科技).
③The main thing to know about nanotechnology is that it’s small—really small. Using this technology, it will be possible to discover cancer at a certain level where there are perhaps only a thousand bad cells (细胞). Compare this to what happens today: Doctors can discover cancer only after the dangerous cells have increased into the millions. One of the advantages of discovering and treating cancer at an early period is that the cells are less likely to become resistant to medical treatment. In later periods, cancer cells often change and get used to certain medicine so quickly that many medicines become ineffective.
④Once a certain type of cancer is discovered, nanotechnology will also completely improve the way it is treated. Right now, most cancer treatments kill not only cancerous cells but the healthy ones as well, causing a number of side effects in people, such as hair loss and bad pain. Nanotechnology will allow doctors to destroy cancerous cells without harming healthy cells.
⑤Unluckily, even though nanotechnology has great possibility of medical achievement, there are serious concerns that it could have bad environmental and health effects. Many scientists believe that governments should give more money for safety-related studies—to make sure that these tiny pieces of something do not get into our food and water and cause serious problems.
⑥Meanwhile, research into the uses of nanotechnology continues and it’s developing quickly. Even ten years ago, many of these uses “would have seemed pretty unrealistic,” says Chemist Vicki Colvin. Perhaps that old movie, Fantastic Voyage, isn’t hard to believe after all.
14.According to the passage, nanotechnology ________.
A.may cause a number of side effects such as hair loss
B.may help discover and treat cancer before it is too late
C.can be used to kill both cancerous cells and healthy ones
D.can discover cancer and treat it completely in later period
15.The words “resistant to” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A.useless for B.harmless to C.unsatisfied with D.undestroyed by
16.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.A Treatment for Cancer?
B.A Tool for Creating Medicine?

16.最佳标题题。文章主要讨论了纳米技术在癌症治疗中的应用及其潜在优势,因此最佳标题应为“A Treatment for Cancer?”。故选A。
(25-26九年级上·北京西城·开学考试)Years ago, my father gave me a rule that still guides me: “Take one extra minute to do it right.”
Psychologists (心理学家) often refer to this as “mindful decision-making,” a process of stopping to consider the results of our actions before we act. My father’s “extra-minute” rule is a simple but powerful example of this idea, encouraging me to slow down and make thoughtful choices to avoid mistakes and regrets.
This rule has shaped my life in many ways. When my children were small, I slid hot drinks out of reach and covered sharp table corners—tiny steps that often prevented accidents we would later regret.
But the benefits of the extra-minute rule go beyond safety. It also strengthens relationships. People often wish they had said “I love you” or “I’m sorry” while they still had the chance. One Saturday morning, my father—already in his eighties—planned to see an eye doctor near my office. At first, I told him I would stay home and enjoy the holiday. Then I paused and reminded myself, “He’s getting older, and every moment we share counts.” I changed my plan, drove across town, and sat beside him in the clinic. That single hour has become one of my most cherished memories.
As for me, the extra-minute rule is simple but powerful. Whenever I finish a task—or before I speak or press “send”—I stop and ask myself two questions: “Is it safe? Is it kind?” Those seconds have rescued me more times than I can count.
For safety, the benefits are immediate. Before leaving the house, I check that the stove is off, candles are out and windows are locked. One morning, the pause saved me: I smelled gas under a pot I had forgotten to turn off. A friend once flooded his flat by leaving a tap running; he now says he wishes he had taken the same minute.
Kindness grows from the pause as well. Recently I wrote an angry message to a workmate who hadn’t answered our project note. Just before sending, I paused, softened my words and asked if everything was okay. Hours later, she explained she’d faced a family emergency and hadn’t seen her phone all day. Without that minute, our friendship and our project—might have cracked.
Life will never be perfect, and mistakes will still happen. Yet most regrets begin small—a careless word, an unchecked switch, or a hurried choice. An extra minute cannot change the past, but it can shape a safer, kinder future.
So next time you hurry out the door, end a conversation, or are about to press “send,” give yourself that one-minute pause. It may be the briefest minute of your day, but it could spare you the saddest words in English: “if only.”
17.Why did the author drive across town that Saturday morning?
A.To relax at home and enjoy a peaceful holiday.
B.To attend her own scheduled eye check-up.
C.To keep her elderly father company at a clinic.

B.Choose words carefully before replying.
C.Wait a minute so that the dish tastes better.
D.Start the car without checking everyone is seated.

Self-satisfaction—A deadly Competitor
I am Peggy Fleming, a coach in the figure-skating team. I remember I suffered a serious failure when I was only 10 years old and the 53 helped me win the Olympic ice-skating championship (冠军). It also gave me a deadly competitor—the other Peggy Fleming.
Just before that, I had been roller-skating, playing basketball, and could climb up a tree as well as any boy. So Dad 54 me to take skating lessons. And soon I won several local figure-skating prizes. Then came the Pacific Coast Championship in Los Angeles.

Now I skate professionally—teach teenagers how to skate. But I still 59 this competitor, myself. I surely believe that each of us has a special talent. And if we lock our talent because of our own self-satisfaction, simply do not want to make 60 or fear trying, we will fail.

Though the FIFA World Cup came to an end in December 2022, the people of a special city in China were busy making soccer history of their own.
Zibo in Shandong province is called “the home of soccer ball”, being the birthplace of the ancient Chinese sport of cuju. Cuju won recognition (认可) from soccer’s governing body, FIFA, as the earliest form of soccer in 2004.
“Side-flicking”, “chest-down” and “shoulder-stopper” are some of the key moves mastered (掌握) by cuju players. Li Weipeng, from Linzi district of Zibo city, is a seventh-generation inheritor (传承人) of cuju. He has been practicing these skills for 18 years.
Mastering different cuju skills is not easy. “At the beginning, I spent eight hours a day practicing juggling (颠) a ball. It was tiring,” Li told China Daily. He is now able to juggle a ball with his foot over 10,000 times in a row.
Teaching students cuju moves is a part of Li’s job. The traditional Chinese sports cuju is now popular at primary and middle schools in Linzi. Its moves have been adapted (改编) into dances and morning exercises.
“Students show great interest in playing cuju, which encourages me to spread the ancient sport,” Li told China Daily.
Moreover, cuju has also become a platform for cultural exchanges. During the World Cup in Qatar, Li introduced cuju at a China-Qatar youth exchange activity held in Doha. During the exchange activity, Chinese and Qatari youth players wore traditional cuju clothing and experienced the ancient game.
“As soon as we started, many soccer fans gathered around us. When we played out the different moves, they cheered for us and gave us the thumbs-up,” said Li, adding that many people were curious and wanted to communicate with the cuju players. Kurtz is the manager of Rust Belt Riders in Cleveland, Ohio. His company started a project of composting (堆肥) with waste food. Its goal is to fight against climate change by recycling as much food waste as possible.
“If we want to meet the climate goals that have been set by our leaders and scientists, we’re going to have to deal with food waste, which is a huge part of the problem of climate change,” Kurtz said.
Wasted food usually ends up in landfills. As it breaks down, it creates a gas called methane (甲烷). Methane traps heat in the atmosphere, which makes climate worse.
Every day, Kurtz connects with grocery stores, restaurants, and other food-service businesses. He educates them about the harmful effects of food waste. Then he asks if they’re willing to change the way they deal with their extra food. So far, Rust Belt Riders has called on 300 companies and 2,800 families to do something different with their food waste. With seven trucks and 30 workers, the company picks up their clients’ extra food and composts it, turning it into soil.
Composted soil is much more than just dirt. It’s made up of five ingredients that help plants grow strong. That’s why Kurtz and his workmates sell the composted soil to people and businesses that need it, which has become a second service at Rust Belt Riders.
In addition to partnering with businesses and families, Rust Belt Riders has teamed up with local schools. At Dentzler Elementary, Rust Belt Riders helps the kitchen staff compost its leftover food. The students place their food waste into bins during lunch periods. The bins are then collected by Rust Belt Riders. “This program has created a space for all students to become environmental caretakers in their own cafeteria,” Emily Cass, a farm-to-school coordinator (协调员) at Dentzler says, “when they might not have other opportunity to help with climate change.”

Luo Yan, 29, smiles as he smells the soup cooked by his wife and mother. His six-year-old son, Bofeng, happily eats chicken given by his grandfather. Bofeng hasn’t seen his grandparents for a year, and his laughter fills the room with joy. Though it’s cold outside, the family’s happiness warms the house. They live in a faraway city but return every year to be “three generations under one roof.”
Years ago, the trip home was long and tiring. Now, the high-speed train makes the journey just five hours. During the ride, they excitedly talk about their hometown and the decorations waiting for them. When they arrive, Luo’s parents greet them warmly. (25-26九年级上·北京·开学考试)Most cars get their energy from petrol (汽油). But some cars use electricity. They get their power from large batteries (电池). There are also some cars that have both an electric motor and a petrol motor. They are called hybrid cars.
Most people think of electric cars as a new invention, but they have been around for a long time. In the late 19th century, electric cars became popular because the technology for petrol engines was not highly developed. But when the petrol engines became easier to make and more powerful, they became more popular. Interest in electric cars was high in the 1970s and 1980s because oil became very expensive. Recently, electric cars have again become popular because people want cars that pollute less.
Electric cars are better than petrol cars in several ways. The biggest benefit is that they can reduce pollution. In areas with a high percentage of electric cars, there is less pollution. But it is important to understand that electric cars still cause pollution. The electricity to power electric cars has to come from a power station. Unless these power stations run on solar or wind energy, they are most likely burning fossil fuels (化石燃料). The second benefit of electric cars is a reduction in the dependence on foreign oil. Since electric cars can run on electricity from coal or nuclear power (核能) stations, there is less of a need to import oil from other countries.
There are some problems with electric cars as well. One disadvantage is that electric cars are more expensive than petrol cars. This is mostly because of the high cost of the batteries. They need to be charged in special places. Right now, there aren’t enough places where people can charge the batteries. Another problem is that electric cars cannot travel as far as petrol cars. Some people are afraid that the battery will run out of electricity before they reach their destination.
Despite these problems, many people, including car industry experts, believe that the percentage of electric cars will increase in the future.
81.When did electric cars first become popular?
82.Why have electric cars become popular again recently?
83.What are the disadvantages of electric cars?
84.Do you believe there will be more electric cars in the future? Why? (Please give at least two reasons)
【答案】81.In the late 19th century. 82.Because people want cars that pollute less. 83.They are more expensive, there aren’t enough charging places, and they cannot travel as far as petrol cars. 84.Yes. First, electric cars can reduce pollution. Second, they reduce dependence on foreign oil.
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了电动汽车的发展历史、优缺点以及未来前景。
81.根据“In the late 19th century, electric cars became popular because the technology for petrol engines was not highly developed.”可知,19世纪末,电动汽车开始流行。故填In the late 19th century.
82.根据“Recently, electric cars have again become popular because people want cars that pollute less.”可知,最近,电动汽车再次流行,因为人们想要污染更少的汽车。故填Because people want cars that pollute less.
83.根据“One disadvantage is that electric cars are more expensive than petrol cars…Another problem is that electric cars cannot travel as far as petrol cars.”可知,一个缺点是电动汽车比汽油车更贵,另一个问题是电动汽车的续航里程不如汽油车。故填Electric cars are more expensive than petrol cars and they cannot travel as far as petrol cars.
84.开放性试题,言之有理即可,参考答案:Yes. First, electric cars can reduce pollution. Second, they reduce dependence on foreign oil.

Students Explore Mars
Human beings have been curious about Mars since the planet was first discovered. For many years, scientists have been working toward ways to best explore the red planet.
A group of senior students from Beijing have shown great interest in Mars and started a project to explore it. Wang Taozhi, 17, the leading figure in this project, put forward a plan to develop a system that is expected to use AI to study pictures of common minerals (矿物) on Mars. It is also hoped to classify (分类) these minerals. “The challenge is to master knowledge about computer coding, AI and algorithms and how to put this knowledge into practice. We failed many times but we finally succeeded,” said Wang.
When Wang Taozhi was in Junior 1. he learned basic knowledge of C++, a programming language, in a computer technology course. He was interested in programming and spent hours a day studying it. Wang then joined the Maker Space of his school, a platform that encourages students to create something new with the help of modern technology. In the Maker Space, he learned more about robotics and coding, developing a software which helped teachers in class.
Wang also learned necessary information through other means in his spare time, including trustworthy journals and even online videos. “I read papers on minerals,” Wang said. “Also, I gained AI basics through some videos on Bilibili.”
To successfully finish the project, good teamwork is important. Wang Taozhi and his teammates You Zhibin and Zhang Beining had a hard time arranging their meetings since they had different class timetables and study plans.
To overcome this challenge, they carried out different tasks based on each person’s strengths, set a deadline and set up regular meetings. It’s hard to balance one’s studies and personal interests, but they have found a way to do it.
“Finishing the project was not easy, but it was an opportunity to help students become actively engaged students willing to solve problems instead of just being passive learners,” said Li Ning, the mentor of this project.
“In the beginning, I borrowed others’ ideas but now I come up with my own ideas and have made them practical,” Wang said.
85.What is Wang Taozhi’s system expected to do?
86.When did Wang Taozhi learn basic knowledge of C++?

(23-24九年级上·北京海淀·开学考试)Indian-origin Anvitha Vijay has given a new meaning to the phrase “age is just a number”; she has proved that achievements and knowledge follow passion and not just age and experience.
Vijay, who lives with her parents in Melbourne, Australia, at the age of seven realized that her piggy bank did not have enough money to hire a developer to make her an app, so she decided to teach herself how to code. With the help of YouTube videos, the young techie learned to code. For one entire year, she watched multiple coding tutorials on the web and became a programmer herself.
Vijay’s inspiration for developing the apps was her little sister, who was still learning to talk. Therefore, Vijay developed an educational app for children that were her sister’s age. The app is called Smartkins, which uses about 100 sounds and flashcards of different animals that help children learn and identify. Later, Vijay developed a similar iOS app for children to identify and learn colors. Each app has been downloaded thousands of times.
Anvitha’s skills won her a scholarship to attend a big tech conference hosted by Apple in San Francisco, California. There, she got tips from the pros. She went to workshops where she learned about the latest software for app building.
All that training led to an idea for a third app. This one, called GoalsHi, is to inspire kids to practice good habits. Users are rewarded for achieving goals, such as eating their vegetables or practicing the piano. Anvitha says the rewards are like getting a sticker for a job well done.
Anvitha’s goal is to continue creating technology that helps kids learn while having fun. But even more important to her is that the world sees the power of technology in kids’ hands. “The more training we get in tech at an early age,” she says, “the better chance we have of becoming creativity champions who will one day change the world.”
89.How old was Vijay when she learned to code?
90.What is the purpose of GoalsHi?
91.To Vijay, what is even more important than the creation of technology?
92.What makes Vijay succeed in developing apps? Can you name two of her qualities(品质)and explain how they made her succeed?

D.Boring.
2.What did Riya have to do in her P.E. class?
A.Learn to blow a whistle. B.Search for her classmates.
C.Run a mile around the track. D.Count the trees around buildings.
3.What can we know from Paragraph 4?

11.What made the writer decide to build a little free library?
A.To earn a prize from the school project. B.To help children have a place to read.
C.To use some old wood in the garage. D.To make the community more beautiful.
12.How did the writer feel about building the library?
A.Confident and excited from start to finish. B.Disappointed at first and felt sad later.
C.Nervous at first but stopped trying later. D.Upset at first but very proud in the end.
13.What lesson can we learn from the writer’s experience?
A.Sharing books can bring happiness to others. B.Small efforts can truly make a big difference.
C.School projects can be challenging but satisfying. D.Asking for help can sometimes make things easier.
C.The Near Future of Science Fiction
D.The Advantages of Nanotechnology
D.To finish important project work at her office.

(25-26九年级上·北京西城·开学考试)At the age of eight, I attended my first Kathak (卡塔克舞) class because I didn’t want to feel left out by my friends. My mother was very 45 of my decision. “Give it a try. You might just love it,” she said.
However, four years later, I was sure I 46 Kathak. Maybe it was because of the online classes during the flu seasons, which felt like a waste of time. Maybe it was the seeds of self-doubt that had taken root. Or maybe it was just the one-step chakkar (单步脚尖旋转), which seemed as frightening and 47 as climbing Mount Everest. I wasn’t sure what caused it, but I was struggling to understand why I was still dancing.
Seeing my frustration, my mother tried to help by seeking advice from my friends. For a teenager, that was humiliating (屈辱的), and I held her responsible for my 48 . I spent more time arguing with my mother than practicing Kathak.
Looking back, I realize that if my mother hadn’t insisted, I would have quit long ago, and my life would probably be 49 . However, fate had its own plan. After I reached the ninth grade, I had bigger things to worry about, like my sleep schedule and the science projects. Kathak took a backseat on my list of priorities (优先事项). Too busy to hate anything or anyone, I stopped wasting my breath arguing with my mother. I just got by with each dancing class, and, if I was honest, I kind of appreciated those two hours when there was nothing else on my mind.
Months went by, I didn’t realize how much I had 50 , but suddenly I could do ten one-step chakkars. I started to look forward to dancing. As I danced, the sound of each drumbeat resonated (共振) deeply within me. My body moved naturally to the melody, and the jingle of bells chased away my anxious thoughts. I felt peaceful. I found myself 51 every second of it.
Reflecting on the journey that has brought me this far, I realize that passion isn’t always love at first sight. Sometimes, it grows slowly. Thanks to my mother’s support and belief in me, I have discovered my true 52 . I was just too stubborn to see it at first. For me, Kathak is not just about dancing; it’s about self-discovery and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child.

I, a very 55 young girl, proud of the praise from friends and newspapers, walked into the gym expecting to add another great honor to my recent success. Out on the ice, I totally enjoyed myself, flying through all kinds of figures I knew so well. But when the results were reported, I was shocked—out of the 12 competitors I had finished last! The lesson burned as bright as my skate knives: “You didn’t skate your best!” I knew that only one person had 56 me that day—myself, my own self-satisfaction.
The rules of figure-skating are: There are 69 figures in all. A skater must do five figures for the Olympics, but you aren’t told which figures these will be until the last minute. So you must be very familiar with the 69 figures. When I 57 every time, I would practice the same 69 figures over and over, eight hours a day. Often in the middle of practicing a figure, the other Peggy Fleming would say in a low voice, “Good enough—why force yourself so 58 ?” At this time, I remembered the lesson in Los Angeles.
Now I skate professionally—teach teenagers how to skate. But I still 59 this competitor, myself. I surely believe that each of us has a special talent. And if we lock our talent because of our own self-satisfaction, simply do not want to make 60 or fear trying, we will fail.

Keeping an Old Sport Alive
Cuju has become a kind of sport that promotes (促进) international communication.
69.When did cuju win recognition as the earliest form of soccer from FIFA?
70.How long did Li spend practicing juggling a ball at the beginning?
71.What did Chinese and Qatari youth players do during the exchange activity?
72.Would you like to learn to play cuju? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons.)

(24-25八年级下·北京石景山·期末)On Chinese New Year’s Eve, the Luo family gathers around a table filled with delicious dishes like chicken, duck, pork, fish, and vegetables.
The house is decorated with red paper cuttings on the windows, Spring Festival couplets on the doors, and bright paintings on the walls.
After dinner, the family stays up late. They watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV, eat snacks like candies and nuts, and make dumplings for midnight. Sitting together, Luo Yan shares his plan: “I don’t want us to be apart anymore. We’ll visit more often or bring you to the city. Home is where family is together.”
At midnight, the village lights up. Luo Yan and his family light firecrackers and watch colorful fireworks fill the sky. Across China, millions of families celebrate their good luck, togetherness, and hopes for a bright future. Children cheer loudly, and grandparents smile as the new year begins.
For the Luo family, the Spring Festival is not just about food or traditions. It’s about love, hope, and the joy of being together. No matter how busy life gets, family remains their greatest treasure. This night, they feel truly blessed.

87.Why did Wang Taozhi and his teammates have a hard time arranging their meetings?
88.What do you think of Wang Taozhi? Why?(Please give at least two reasons.)
