Lili Time is one of the many coffee shops in Shanghai, but it is a little bit different. Some customers say they do not go there to drink coffee. Instead, they want to enjoy the “special” service.
In 2013, when Zhang Lili was working in her first coffee shop, a customer gave her a note. It read, “I’m deaf but I really love coffee. Would you give me the chance to learn how to make it?” And the rest, as they say, was history. This person became the first deaf barista (咖啡师) in that shop. And there started Zhang’s story with the deaf community (社群).
In 2019, Zhang and her husband started Lili Time. Over the past few years, it has become a place filled with love. More and more deaf people have gotten to know about it and the word has spread (传播).
People in Lili Time need to order their coffee by talking to its baristas, even though they speak slowly and sometimes not clearly enough. But this is Zhang’s plan. She wants deaf people to talk to others and be more confident.
At the same time, Lili Time provides a space for people to teach others skills. Some photographers may teach how to take photos, for example; people from other countries may teach English, French, and so on-all for free. They come here every week. They just love helping others.
59. What made Zhang Lili start helping the deaf community?
A. A note from a deaf customer. B. A talk with a special worker.
C. A class about making coffee. D. A story about a coffee shop.

“The best way to know the unknown is to go there, experience it and feel it with your heart,” Du Mengran told Nature. Du, a deep-sea scientist, played a key role in the discovery of the world’s deepest-known animal ecosystem She was named on Nature’s list of 10 people who helped shape science in 2025.
38-year-old Du has been diving (潜水) since 2016. In 2024, she led a team on 24 dives in the northern Pacific Ocean. There, they found a new ecosystem. Instead of sunlight, it gets energy from chemicals (化学物质), like CH₄, that come out of the ocean floor. “We used to think nothing could live in such difficult conditions,” Du told Wenhui Daily.
Diving in the sea can be challenging. High water pressure is a problem. The water pressure at the bottom of the ocean can be about 1,000 times what we experience at sea level. Seasickness (晕船) is also a challenge. “When I heard I was named one of Nature’s 10, I couldn’t even bring myself to celebrate because I was too worried about my team being seasick,” Du said.
However, deep-sea exploration makes it possible to answer many questions, like how life first began on Earth. For Du, this makes all the hard work meaningful.
62. Who is Du Mengran according to the text?
A. A deep-sea scientist. B. A science reporter.
C. A university teacher. D. A famous writer.
63. What gives energy to the newly found ecosystem in the northern Pacific Ocean?
A. Sunlight from the sea surface. B. Chemicals from the ocean floor.
C. Heat from underwater volcanoes. D. Food from sea plants.
64. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. The difficulties of deep-sea diving. B. The animals living in the deep sea.
C. The reason Du studies the ocean. D. The places scientists explore.
65. What’s the purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a scientist and her work. B. To explain how people dive in the sea.
C. To describe animals in the deep ocean. D. To show why the ocean is dangerous.
D
E-books and online learning platforms (平台) have become more common. People want to know if students learn as well from screens as from paper books.
From 2013 to 2015, a study asked 429 university students from five countries about their reading habits. The study found that 92% of them could focus better when reading printed books. Many students also said printed books were more enjoyable. Some even liked the smell of paper. They also felt that reading on paper was easier for their eyes.
Another difference is multitasking. About 67% of students did other things while reading on screens, but only 41% did so when reading printed books. However, some students still prefer online reading because it saves paper and information is easy to find.
Other studies also show that paper reading can help students understand and remember better. For example, one study found that students remembered stories better after reading them on paper. They also read digital (电子的) texts faster, but their test results were not as good.
Today, digital reading tools are getting better. Still, people are thinking about how schools can help students read more carefully when using digital devices (设备).
66. What did the study find about reading printed books?
A. Students focused better. B. Students read more pages.
C. Students spent less time. D. Students used fewer notes.
67. What does the underlined word “multitasking” mean in the text?
A. Reading a book very carefully. B. Doing many things together.
C. Studying for a test at night. D. Using a phone to read books.
68. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A. Online reading is always better. B. Students should read online more.
C. Paper books are not useful anymore. D. Paper reading may help learning more.

Mrs. Brown, our next-door neighbor, is famous in our community for her beautiful garden. But three years ago, the space was just a piece of land full of weeds (杂草).
After she retired (退休), Mrs. Brown decided to change it. She spent weeks clearing the land by herself. “I wanted to create something not just for me, but for everyone to enjoy,” she told me.
Slowly, vegetables and flowers began to grow. She planted tomatoes, sunflowers, and even some fruit trees. Now in summer, the garden is full of color and life. What’s special is that Mrs. Brown never locks her garden gate. A sign says, “Take what you need, share if you can.” Neighbors are welcome to pick a tomato or some flowers. In return, some help water the plants, and some bring small ones to add. Sometimes, people just sit inside, enjoying the quietness. The garden has become a peaceful place where people meet and talk.
Last spring, our school had a “Green Week” project. Mrs. Brown invited our class to her garden. She showed us how to plant flowers and explained why gardens were important for the environment and for bringing the neighbors together. We got our hands dirty, learned to care for the plants, and felt proud when they grew. We learned much more than from books. Now, some of my classmates have started small gardens at home.
Mrs. Brown’s garden is more than plants, flowers and fruits. It’s a place of sharing and bringing our community together.
69. Why did Mrs Brown change the garden after she retired?
A. To keep the land tidy. B. To share the garden with others.
C. To grow food for herself. D. To start a new hobby.
70. What’s special about Mrs Brown’s garden?
A. The plants in it are smaller.
B. It’s quieter than any other place.
C. It’s colourful all year round.
D. People can take and give plants there.
71. What did the students do during the “Green Week” project?
A. They learned to plant flowers. B. They cleaned the whole garden.
C. They sold plants in the garden. D. They studied plants in class.
72. What’s the best title for the text?
A. The Most Famous Garden in Town B. How to Grow a Beautiful Garden
C. A School Project About Plants D. A Garden That Brings People Together

根据上文“Your memory plays an important part in your life.”
上文提出问题“So how can you improve your memory?”,下文接着列举了具体的做法。
根据后文举例“learning a musical instrument or a new language”,这些都属于需要动脑去完成的“任务”或“活动”。
根据后半句“it will take you a longer time to deal with your things”可知,这是一种负面状态导致的效率降低。

A 63. B 64. A 65. A

Helping others, growing myself
Helping others is a meaningful thing. I once had an experience that made me understand this deeply.
Last winter, an old man fell down on the snowy road. When I saw him, I quickly ran over and helped him stand up. He looked weak and had trouble walking, so I helped him walk slowly to his home. When we arrived, he thanked me again and again, and I felt very warm in my heart.
