Evans Wadongo was from a village in Africa. He had to do homework by the light of a kerosene lamp (煤油灯). Evans’ eyes hurt badly and therefore his studying became difficult. It was common in his village. Many children left school for this reason so they stayed poor for the rest of their lives.
Although studying was difficult, Evans was an excellent student and went to a university. He continued to worry about the kerosene lamp. By this time, he realized it was not just bad for schoolchildren but also for the whole family. First, it can cause illnesses such as coughs. Also, the light can hurt people’s eyes. Besides, it can lead to fires. Lastly, kerosene is expensive, so families have less money for food. It was difficult to come up with a different kind of lamp that was cheap and good for the environment. Yet Evans did not give up.
One day, he had an idea. He could use a small solar (太阳能的) light. Sunlight is free and solar power is good for the environment. Evans built his first solar lamp, and it worked. He began to build more lamps and sent them to local families. An organization heard about this and provided money for him to build more solar lamps.
Each lamp only cost $20. However, this was a lot of money to many villagers, who only made $34 a week, so Evans made sure he kept the cost down. First, Evans used environmentally friendly materials (材料). Next, volunteers built the lamps. Finally, people from many countries donated money to his team, so the lamps were usually free.

He began to build more lamps and sent them to local families. An organization heard about this and provided money for him to build more solar lamps.

Out in the park, protection robots like Xiao Chen and Xiao Liang act as safety officers, spreading safety tips and recent messages.
The most eye-catching robot is Oli, whose lively dance moves attract a great number of visitors and many of them come to take photos with it. Rainforests are forests that get a lot of rain—sometimes more than 2.5 centimeters per day! They are mainly found in tropical (热带) areas near the equator (赤道), where the weather is hot and wet all year round. ____21____ Among them, the Amazon rain forest (亚马逊雨林) in South America is the largest one in the world.
The Amazon covers a huge area. More than half of it lies in Brazil (巴西). ____22____ Because of its size, the Amazon has a great influence on the world’s climate, helping to keep the air clean and fresh.
____23____ It is home to more kinds of plants and animals than anywhere else on Earth. The rainforest grows in different tree layers (层), and each layer offers comfortable homes for special living things. Colorful birds and monkeys stay high in the treetops, while all kinds of insects live among lower plants. Such different living environments help the Amazon hold thousands of kinds of wildlife.
People also live in the Amazon. There are over 400 different local groups. ____24____ They used to stay deep in the forest, finding food, building homes, and making medicine from plants. Nowadays, some of them leave the forest sometimes to sell food in nearby towns. However, they still keep many of their own traditions and ways of life.
Today, the Amazon is facing a serious problem: tree cutting. Too many trees are being cut down by humans. The loss of forests also affects the world’s weather and causes more animals to lose their homes. We can’t let the rainforest disappear. ____25____
A. The rest of the rainforest lies in other countries.
B. The weather near the equator is very hot and dry.
C. It is time for us to take action to save the rainforest.

根据“All of a sudden, the mother duck saw a fox”可知,遇到天敌狐狸,鸭妈妈应该是感到害怕或紧张,nervous符合逻辑。
根据后文“she’s hurt and can’t fly”可知,鸭妈妈假装受伤飞不了,拖着翅膀才符合伪装的情节,wings符合语境。
根据“It looks like she’s hurt and can’t fly”可知,狐狸发现猎物受伤,觉得捕捉唾手可得,pleased符合狐狸此时的心理。
根据“she’s hurt and can’t fly”可知,狐狸认为抓住受伤的鸭子很“容易”。
根据“saw that they had reached the lake”可知,小鸭子安全了,鸭妈妈感到“放松/欣慰”。
根据“took a deep”可知,此处是固定搭配take a deep breath,意为“深呼吸”。
根据“The fox thought she was tired”可知,狐狸以为有机会了,所以靠近猎物,come closer意为“更近”符合语境,slower更慢;later稍后;further更远,逻辑相反。
根据“the mother duck quickly spread her wings”可知,这是狐狸靠近后的立即反应,此处表达两个动作紧紧衔接,as soon as意为“一……
根据“spread her wings... into the air”可知,展开翅膀进入空中是“飞”,flew符合动作描写。
根据“protected her children in...”
