Here are 4 ideas for an unusual holiday in Europe. Volunteer in Transylvania Transylvania is a top choice for an unusual European city break, with wonderfully preserved medieval(中世纪的) towns and castles that inspired the famous novel Dracula. In addition, you can take your unusual holiday experience even further by volunteering in Eastern Europe’s largest bear reserve and working with bears. Teach skiing in Austria Austria is one of Europe’s top skiing destinations. If you’re looking for a more unusual way to spend winter holiday, why not consider training to be a ski instructor there? Go diving in Spain For a European holiday with a difference, take part in a plastic cleanup project based in Barcelona, help to empty plastic waste in the Mediterranean Sea and make a difference as you travel. This volunteer project combines diving with collecting plastic or other waste from the water, alongside giving you the chance to explore the city. Explore Tuscany on horseback Tuscany, one of the best places in Europe to explore riding holidays, has witnessed a sharp increase in travelers. There are various activities that combine sightseeing with basic horse riding lessons and you can stay in Renaissance villas(文艺复兴风格的别墅)and farmhouses. Visiting its modern buildings. B. Helping to care for bears. C. Reading the novel Dracula. D. Finding a job in the castle. 22. Where can you earn money while traveling? A. Transylvania B. Austria C. They feature a typical guided tour. B On a quiet summer morning at Mares Pond in Cape Cod, something unusual is happening. Fifteen women in their sixties and seventies are putting on swimming suit and preparing to dive (潜水). But they’re not here just to swim-they’re on a special mission to clean the pond. One by one, they jump into the water. Soon, shouts of “Found something!” break the silence. A swimmer surfaces holding bright blue children’s goggles (护目镜). Another pulls up a fishing line. The most exciting find is a long piece of metal that takes several women to lift. By lunchtime, their collection includes beer cans, plastic items, and even a brick. They belong to the Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage (OLAUG), a non-profit organization started in 2017 by Susan Baur, a 67-year-old retired professor. Susan first noticed the waste while swimming in ponds for exercise. “I used to follow the beer cans as my targets to add meaning to my exercise, ” she laughs. What began as a personal project soon grew when friends asked to join. The women say cleaning ponds is more than just good exercise. “It’s like discovering a secret world,” says Robin Melavalin. “We see fish, turtles, and beautiful plants — things most people never notice. While some question why they call themselves “old ladies” or don’t include men, Susan explains, “We want to show what older women can do. Age doesn’t have to stop you from helping the environment.” New members are often surprised by what they achieve. Many swim further or lift heavier objects than they thought possible. “You should see their faces when they come back,” Susan says. “They’re tired but so proud.” For these women, cleaning ponds has become about more than cleaning waste — it’s about friendship, purpose, and proving you’re never too old to make a difference. 24. What are the seniors doing in the pond? A. They are teaching others to swim. B. They are removing rubbish from ponds. C. They are studying underwater plants. D. They are competing in swimming races. 25. Why was OLAUG set up? A. To find the items lost in the pond. B. To protect endangered species in the pond. C.To combine workout and environmental protection. D. To provide swimming training for the elderly. 26. How do OLAUG members probably feel about their work? A. Satisfied though tired B. Bored and tired. C. Pleased though scared D. Anxious and challenged. 27. What does the article suggest about aging? A. Older people can’t learn new things. B. Only the young can shape the world. C. Older women can try swimming to keep fit. D. Age can’t limit what you are capable of. C Scientists in Australia thought they had developed a new tracking device(追踪设备) to help them monitor magpies (喜鹊), but these birds had other ideas. Australian magpies are medium-sized black and white birds from the same bird “family” as crows and bluejays. They are known to be quite clever. They live in groups of up to 12 birds and work together to defend the area they live in. The purpose of the scientists’ experiment was to learn more about how far they travel each day and how their social behaviors are influenced by sex, age, and rank. Besides, the scientists were eager to test the newly developed tracking device. Most trackers are too big to fit on small and medium sized birds, and small trackers tend to be limited when it comes to data storage, battery life, and reusability. The new tracker, weighing less than 1 gram, was designed to overcome these problems. Attached to a backpack-like harness (背带) which could not be removed easily, the device can re-charge wirelessly and transmit (传输) data wirelessly. The scientists placed trackers on five magpies using their special harnesses. Things started to fall apart almost immediately. Within 10 minutes of fitting the final tracker, an adult female without a tracker tried to remove the harness from a younger bird and eventually succeeded. This pattern was repeated in the following hours, and by the third day none of the birds had trackers anymore. Scientists refer to this as“rescue behavior,” and it happens when a helper tries to free another individual in trouble and with no obvious direct benefit to the rescuing individual. They think this is the first time rescue behavior has been reported for Australian magpies. However, they aren’t sure if the same individual removed all of the harnesses or if others offered help. The team didn’t get the data they wanted, but their experiment still produced interesting results. That’s how science works sometimes. The scientists need to try again to figure out a good way to track these clever birds. 28.What can we learn about Australian magpies from paragraph 2? A.They have good team spirit. B.They are smarter than crows. C.They are hardly found. D.They learn from each other. 29.What is a big advantage of the new tracking device? A.It doesn’t need to be re-charged. B.It can be applied to all birds. C.It has limited data storage. D.It is lighter in weight. 30.What happened to the magpies after the trackers were attached to them? A.They couldn’t fly as normal. B.They were warned by other magpies. C.They helped each other to remove the trackers. D.They were driven out of their home by other adult magpies. 31.Which can be the best title for the text? A.Climate Change Makes Magpies More Difficult B.Magpies Teach Scientists an Unexpected Lesson C.The Trackers Help Magpies Get Used to Nature D.Magpies Are Adjusting to the Trackers on Their Bodies D Most people visit national parks expecting to see natural wonders like forests, waterfalls, and animals. What they don’t expect are piles of trash left by tourists who don’t think about how such waste hurts the environment. Now, there’s an app to not only track this waste but also get rid of it. According to Travel + Leisure, the community group 5 Gyres Institute has developed an app called TrashBlitz that will record trash thrown away in national parks. By noting what kinds of trash are found, the goal is to encourage people to cut down on waste that pollutes the parks. If you’re walking through Yellowstone and find a place with lots of empty bottles or wrappers, you can use the TrashBlitz app to write down where the trash is and any clean-up work you do. This data can then be used to create plans for policy changes, including possible laws and activities to tell visitors to clean up and use things that can be recycled or used again. The group’s 2024 clean-up effort had 259 events at 58 sites, like Olympic National Park. The group collected information as well as reports from volunteers. Based on the data, they found the biggest problem is plastic, which makes up about 77% of all reported trash. Food wrappers are the most common type of plastic litter, but soda bottles, wet wipes, and bottle caps are also usual. Paper is the second most found trash, and metals and fabrics make up the rest. “I found small colorful pieces of plastic in Biscayne National Park,” a volunteer said. “I also saw lots of bags, cups, and takeout boxes broken into tiny pieces along the roads to Everglades National Park. The smaller plastic gets, the more easily it can enter the food chain and the harder it is to remove from nature.” TrashBlitz isn’t just for parks: It works for local clean-ups in communities too. Recent reports include surveys in Los Angeles, Denver, and Austin. Their work is supported by laws: In 2024, the U. S. Department of the Interior said it would not allow people to use single-use plastics in parks. 32. Why was the app invented? A. To help reuse trash in national parks. B. To solve trash problems in national parks. C. To find volunteers to clean national parks. D. To punish those who litter in national parks. 33. What is the data collected by the app used for? A. Helping make new rules. B. Educating volunteers. C. Creating plans for volunteers. D. Deciding where to put trash. 34. What does the data from the group’s 2024 clean-up effort show? A. The challenges of cleaning up trash. B. The increase of all kinds of trash. C. The effects and reuse of trash. D. The types and percentages of trash. 35. What does the last paragraph say about the app? A. It has improved its system recently. B. It often surveys user’s experiences. C. It functions well in many places. D. It is waiting for laws to recognize it. 第二节 (共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Do you have a hard time staying on task? Do you constantly leave things on your to-do list till the last minute? If so, you’re likely procrastinating (拖延). 36 For whatever reason, there are many ways to break the habit and get back on task. 37 Include short-term tasks you need to finish daily and weekly and long-term goals that may take months or years to finish. Seeing everything written down can help you plan out what needs to be done to meet your goals. Deal with things one step at a time, so you don’t get stressed. It can be stressful to think about finishing a whole essay or completing a week’s worth of tasks. Instead of thinking about everything you must do, break it down into small pieces. 38 Make a plan in the morning and pick the most challenging task first. You’ll be most energized in the morning once you’ve eaten breakfast and woken up fully. 39 You’ll feel better once it’s done, and then you can move on to a few easier tasks for the rest of the day. Keep in mind that this strategy isn’t for everyone, so stick to tackling your most difficult tasks whenever you feel the most motivated. Motivate yourself to finish a task with something you love. Tell yourself that when you complete your to-do list, you’ll get to celebrate with one of your favorite things. 40 Try rewarding yourself with a meal at your favorite restaurant, seeing a movie with a friend, or buying yourself something you’ve always wanted. A. Break tasks down into small ones. B. This expectation can be used to push yourself through the pain. C. Procrastination can result from stress, setbacks or perfectionism. D. Deal with the hardest thing in your list right then. E. Make a record of all the tasks you need to complete. F. The more stressed you are, the harder it’ll be to get your work done. G. You’ll be able to get started on the smallest and go forward from there. 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分45分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A 、 B 、 C 、 D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 James and William were two neighbors in a small town. With their camping equipment, they embarked on a much-anticipated trip in the nearby woods, full of excitement. Upon arrival, the parents set up the tent while their two children, Max and Emma, wandered around and looked for fun. They were especially thrilled, laughter echoing through the woods. Max, the big brother, proposed to go deeper into the woods and explore more. Emma followed. As they walked along the narrow path, chatting and laughing, they suddenly heard a strange noise coming from a thick bush. Feeling a little bit scared, Emma came closer to her brother. Then, they noticed another sound. Even with the scare and nervousness, curiosity got the better of them. They carefully approached the source of that sound. To their big surprise, they found a small, injured fox lying there, making some heartbroken sounds. Taking a closer look, Max found that one of her legs was bleeding, and she looked weak and scared. Emma’s heart ached at the sight of the poor creature. “We can’t just leave her here. Let’s do something, ” she begged, looking determined. Max hesitated for a while and nodded in agreement. Emma suggested coming back to the camping site and called their parents for help. But they worried the fox could be attacked by other bigger animals. Then Max decided to take the fox back. They knew they had to be extremely careful, not scaring the fox and not causing further injury. Slowly, Max made his first attempt. He took off his coat and tried to gently place it over the fox. The fox, sensing Max’s approach, struggled to run away but failed due to her bleeding leg. Max did another try. This time, he succeeded. He covered the fox carefully with his coat. The fox still whined(哀鸣) sadly, but didn’t run away. With great care, they lifted the fox and carried her back. 注意: 续写词数应为150个左右。 Once they arrived, they quickly called their parents. __________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ A few days later, the fox’s leg was fully healed. _____________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ - 1 - 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
