I took pride in my school. When Mr. White, our teacher, told us about a group project to create a brochure (小册子) for the school’s 100th anniversary (周年纪念日), I felt excited. I was grouped with Jake, a photography (摄影) lover, and Lily, who had a talent for writing. I thought working together would be fun, but my joy didn’t last long.
We failed our first meeting. When we discussed what part of the school to focus on (关注), Jake kept talking about cameras and his photos. I looked to Lily for help, but she just said, “This project sounds boring.” Jake agreed with Lily. At the second meeting, things got even worse. Jake didn’t collect materials from the library as he promised, showing weekend pictures instead, and Lily didn’t start her research. I felt like I was the only one trying to make the project work. So I decided to do it alone at home. However, no matter how hard I tried, the result wasn’t good. My mom noticed I was unhappy. She told me, “You can’t finish this alone. Jake and Lily have skills that can make the project great. You need to find a way to work with them.”
With only three days left, I came up with an idea. I suggested to Jake and Lily that we could put stories and photos together in the brochure. “Jake, your photos can make our school’s history lively,” I said. “Lily, your interesting stories will make the brochure special.” Surprisingly, they liked the idea. Jake took photos of every part of the school, Lily wrote stories about the school’s past, and I organized (组织) all the information.
On the final day, we presented (展示) our brochure in class. Lily’s stories touched everyone, and Jake even made old photos look better. Mr. White smiled and said, “You’re so great! You’ve shown the true spirit of our school.” Hearing the cheering from our classmates, we felt very proud.

AI technology has been used in many fields and is now playing an increasingly important role in matters of public interest.
A group of students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) has developed an AI system (系统) that restores (修复) old photos of missing children. Until now, they have been providing technological support for many parents with over 1,000 restored photos and helped reunite (使重聚) 11 missing children with their families.
The team was built by Sheng Jianzhong in 2020, when he was a student at HUST. He first thought to restore photos of missing children when he saw a missing child notice with an unclear photo. As he was studying digital image processing (数字图像处理), he decided to use his skills to help the parents restore their images.
But the system cannot be completed by one person alone. Luckily, many students soon volunteered to join Sheng’s project.
After half a year, they developed an image restoration AI system that solved the problem of unclear faces in photos. A restored image can be produced in just a few minutes. Parents can then print the high-quality images of their missing children onto T-shirts or large posters (海报).
In many cases, the team doesn’t directly connect with the families. And sometimes the families don’t even know the team has helped them. “But we still feel satisfied, and we are happy for them,” Sheng said. In the future, Sheng plans to build a better team. “It would use technology to help people who have lost their loved ones, and also encourage more young people to work for the public good,” he said.

C. A missing child he knew. D. An activity in his school.

A. Because it saved the printing time of the photos.
B. Because it provided large posters for the families.
C. Because it made it more possible to find missing people.
D. Because it had lots of volunteers from local universities.
14. How do the team members feel although the families don’t know who helped them?
A. They feel proud and lucky. B. They feel honest and polite.
