D.From December to February. B I’d made some unusual plans for my trip to Switzerland—paddleboarding, kayaking—so I was prepared for some novel experiences. But I also found some unexpected life lessons on the way. Over a week I tried new things with varying levels of success. As an adult beginner, I concentrated on the effort, knowing full well that the outcome was beyond my control. This became clear as I held a paddleboard on the blue waters of Lake Constance. Sitting astride my paddle, I rowed away from the water’s edge and then practiced what I learnt minutes ago from my paddleboarding instructor. I managed to stand for a few seconds before crashing down into the lake. After what felt like my 10th collapse, I felt tired and ready to give up. The voice of self-doubt kept getting louder but I chose to silence it, focusing on the sun, waves and water instead as the instructor had suggested. By not giving up, I gained more than had I not tried at all. Sometimes it takes more than one try and one situation to drive home a point. When I thought I was done being tested, I found myself again on the water’s surface a few days later. This time in a kayak. Having kayaked many times before, I was confident. One by one we followed our guide Gaitanos on the lake. I tried my best to handle the oar (桨), but soon I floated away from the group. In a panic (恐慌) I began to row even faster. But this pushed me further away. Exhausted, I waited for rescue. When Gaitanos caught up with me, he patiently guided me on how to oar. As I tried harder and harder, my arms burning, he told me to simply do what I knew. The minute I let go and relaxed, I managed to get control over my kayak and steered it in the direction I wanted.  In that moment, Gaitanos gave me an important life lesson:when things go wrong, sometimes all we need to do is approach the situation with a calm mind. As we rowed towards the group, everyone cheered me on. I felt proud of myself, for having tried, failed and learnt. 24.What did the author expect before trying new things on the trip? A.To shake off years of self-doubt. B.To build good trust with the instructor. C.To master paddleboarding and kayaking. D.To focus on the effort rather than the result. 25.What does the underlined phrase “drive home a point” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Take a long drive home. B.Learn from failures carefully. C.Stress the point too much. D.Understand the lesson completely. 26.What’s the author’s first reaction when floating away? A.He shouted for assistance. B.He rowed faster in a panic. C.He waited for the guide to help. D.He calmly improved his method. 27.What life lesson did the author learn from Gaitanos? A.Value physical strength. B.Follow instructions strictly. C.Stay calm in difficult situations. D.Pursue teamwork and cooperation. C Bluestreak cleaner wrasse (蓝纹裂唇鱼) are small, territorial fish that forcefully beat back invaders. But when they have access to a mirror, the fish size themselves up before deciding whether or not to fight. About the size of a human finger, bluestreak cleaner wrasse are tiny, blue, black and white fish. Scientists already knew they were smart creatures. In 2018, they became the first fish to pass what’s known as the mirror test, an experiment used to measure self-awareness by judging whether or not an animal recognizes its own reflection. Last year, researchers also showed that bluestreak cleaner wrasse could recognize themselves in photos after looking at their reflection in a mirror. Scientists wanted to explore their self-awareness on an even deeper level, so they set up a series of new laboratory experiments. They shared their findings in a new paper. In the first stage, researchers placed a bluestreak cleaner wrasse inside a clear fish tank. Then, they held photos against the glass showing bluestreak cleaner wrasses of varying sizes—some that were 10 percent larger than the fish in the tank, and some that were 10 percent smaller. No matter which photo the scientists showed, the bluestreak cleaner wrasse inside the tank tried to attack it. Next, the team repeated the same experiment but added a mirror to the tank. The fish checked out their own reflection before deciding whether to fight—and they would only battle photos of smaller invaders, not larger ones. To scientists, this suggests that bluestreak cleaner wrasse are capable of understanding their own body size, as well as figuring out if they are bigger or smaller than a competitor. There are no mirrors in the wild, so the findings also suggest that bluestreak cleaner wrasse adapted and learned to use the mirror as a self-preservation tool. This discovery can help make clear the similarities between human and non-human animal self-awareness and provide important clues to explain how self-awareness has evolved. 28.What’s the purpose of the new laboratory experiments on bluestreak cleaner wrasse? A.To observe their territorial behavior. B.To determine their recognition ability. C.To further explore their self-awareness. D.To see if they actually pass the mirror test. 29.How did bluestreak cleaner wrasse react when they saw photos of their same kind in the first stage? A.They greeted the photos. B.They attacked the photos. C.They ignored the photos. D.They sized the photos up. 30.What does bluestreak cleaner wrasse’s behavior in the presence of a mirror suggest? A.They have no idea of their own reflection. B.They have no concept of self-preservation. C.They can adapt to new environments quickly. D.They can compare their own body size with that of others. 31.What is the significance of the bluestreak cleaner wrasse’s ability to use a mirror? A.It proves they are smarter than other fish in the world. B.It confirms they can identify potential competitors ahead. C.It offers understanding of the evolution of self-awareness. D.It shows they can be a tool for human self-awareness studies. D Ecover is calling for a change in our laundry (洗衣服) habits after research found people felt under societal pressure to wash their clothes more often, and were unaware that this could damage the environment. The brand, in partnership with Falmouth University, is publishing a report this week into the impact of laundry on the environment. The researchers found that 18% of the 2,000 Britons interviewed for the report believed—wrongly—that washing less frequently would not affect the planet. One in 10 felt pressure to do the laundry more often. The report also found that 75% of people in recent studies mentioned fear of judgment from others for wearing the same clothes multiple days in a row. Model and environmental activist Lily Cole, who will chair a panel discussion on the findings in London this week, said she had experienced this. “The attitude has changed in recent years, but I was in the sidebar of shame a few times for wearing the same look on the red carpet,” she said. Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed the number of wash loads in the UK increased by 9.6% from 6.2 bn to 6.8 bn between 2005 and 2014.It is still increasing year by year. The global detergent (洗涤剂)market size was valued at USD 119.34 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.5% from 2024 to 2030. Pollution from detergent causes serious risks to natural ecosystems. Changes to the materials used to make modern clothes have worsened the problem—washing clothes made from man-made fabrics accounts for about 8% of the microplastics released into our water. Dr Cui Su, from the school of communication, Falmouth University, who worked on the report said, “For decades, our relationship with laundry has been shaped by powerful cultural forces and advertising that have conditioned us to believe that ‘perfectly clean’ is the only acceptable standard. From the smell of freshly washed clothes to the freshness of fabrics, cleanliness has been presented not just as a necessity, but as a reflection of success.” 32.What is the main concern of Ecover’s research on laundry habits? A.The rise in the number of wash loads in the UK. B.The increase in the global detergent market size. C.The change in materials used to make modern clothes. D.The impact of washing clothes more often on the environment. 33.How many Britons interviewed thought washing less would cause little harm to the environment? A.130. B.200. C.360. D.1,500. 34.What does Dr Cui Su mean in the last paragraph? A.We are misled about perfect cleanliness. B.Views on cleanliness haven’t changed. C.People naturally prefer clean clothes. D.Cleanliness is a personal choice. 35.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Clean clothes: a reflection of success B.The role of advertising in laundry habits C.Laundry trends and the rise of microplastics D.Clean clothes, dirty environment: rethinking laundry Do you want to learn the material you’re studying—like, really learn it? 36 One learning theory suggests that if you overlearn, you’ll gain the ability to do something without having to think about it—and eventually get more knowledge. Here’s what overlearning is and how to do it.  What is overlearning? Simply put, overlearning means studying something even once you’re sure you know it. Don’t stop reviewing or studying just because you succeeded in memorizing something. 37    The purpose of overlearning is to make the task easy to ensure it is completed to a high standard with no stress. For example, a student wants to pass his/her spelling test which has 10 words. Knowing about overlearning, he/she doesn’t just memorize each word, but also learns about the origins of each word. 38 Similarly, a teacher wanting to learn about teaching strategies might not simply read one book—they may read ten books, watch videos, attend lectures (and maybe even write their own book).   39    Review the material you’ve already known front to back. For example, when using the Leitner method, always review all the flashcards you’re assigned on a particular day, even if you feel like passing over them because you got them right last time. Repeatedly going over the material you know well is the key to overlearning and eventual automatic recall. 40 This can be as easy as rereading your notes, or as difficult as taking practice tests. Continually reintroducing familiar ideas to yourself will dig them deeper into your long term memory.  A.How do you overlearn? B.How do you schedule your time? C.Overlearning has several benefits. D.Then what you need to do is overlearn it. E.This takes time, but it makes the spelling test a walk in the park. F.Instead, keep going, digging it deeper and deeper into your brain. G.Set aside time each week to review materials you’ve already mastered. Cooking has always been a small enjoyment of mine. The map, yellowed with age, described a mysterious island that had the legendary Silver Falcon, a statue that was said to award its finder enormous wisdom and fortune. As typical eighth graders with the excitement of discovery and dreams of greatness, they decided they would be the ones to discover this hidden treasure. They agreed to start this search during the up-and-coming spring break, keeping their plans a secret from the adults who would undoubtedly discourage such a dangerous adventure. The days that followed were filled with preparation. They read books on survival, learned about the stars for navigation, and tested their courage in smaller woods. The boys were united by their unshakable determination and the promise of an adventure that could change their lives forever. As spring break began, they set out just as the sun painted the sky with colors of orange and gold. They felt a mixture of excitement and slight nervousness. They carried backpacks filled with supplies and the ancient map that they hoped would lead them to glory. The beginning of their journey was full of laughter and songs around the campfire, but as days passed, the trip’s reality set in. The path grew more dangerous, and the map guided them through thick woods and muddy wetlands. They learned to work together as their friendship was tested by constant challenges. Slowly, the island drew nearer. A conflict arose when they reached the foot of Mount Veritas, the final barrier before reaching the island. Lucas twisted (扭伤) his ankle, and the slightest movement sent sharp pains shooting through his leg. With time running out, Jack and Simon had to make a choice:should they push on and risk Lucas’ well-being or turn back after coming so far? At crossroads, Jack and Simon looked at each other and understood what the other was thinking._____________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ When reaching the Silver Falcon, the three boys found no fortune there at all. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ 参考答案 听 力 1~5 BACBC 6~10 BBACB 11~15 ABCCA 16~20 ACABC 阅 读 A 本文介绍了位于云南省迪庆藏族自治州香格里拉市的普达措国家公园。 56.admiring 57.dressed 58.who/that 59.country’s 60.officially 61.various 62.to collect 63.a 64.have been supported 65.for 写 作 第一节 One possible version: Dear Tom, I have known your ideas about exploring space. I didn’t agree that exploring space is a waste of time and money. Actually, it’s more important than you can imagine. The space technology can help to improve the techniques in other fields. With the help of satellites, the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System in my country has a wide range of applications in many fields, including transportation, agriculture, scientific research, etc. Besides, space technology represents a country’s scientific and technological level. Last but not least, exploring space helps us think the future of mankind. In short, exploring space is so important that we should continue this great project. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 第二节 One possible version: At crossroads, Jack and Simon looked at each other and understood what the other was thinking. They realized they couldn’t leave Lucas behind and that the statue could wait, but their friendship could not. With great determination and strengthened bonds, they constructed a makeshift stretcher and carried Lucas through the last leg of their journey. As they reached the top of the last hill, the island revealed itself in all its glory. It was more impressive than they could have ever imagined. The Silver Falcon stood in the center, its wings shining in the sunlight. When reaching the Silver Falcon, the three boys found no fortune there at all. At that time, they realized the true treasure of their journey. It wasn’t about the wisdom or fortune the Silver Falcon could bring—it was about the memories they had created together and the lessons they had learned along the way. In an unexpected turn, the Silver Falcon seemed to acknowledge their growth. As they stood before it, its eyes shone brightly, and the forest around them came alive with the songs of birds and rustling leaves. A soft voice filled the clearing, congratulating them on their bravery and unity. (Text 1) W:Excuse me. I’m afraid I got lost. Could you tell me where I can take a bus or a train to Holiday Inn? M:I think you’d better take a taxi in case you get lost again. W:OK. Thanks a lot. (Text 2) M:The New Year is coming. Would you like to take part in the activities in the park with me at night? W:I’d like to. But after a second thought, I’d better play with my dog at home. (Text 3) M:I got two tickets to Aida at the office party. Do you want to go with me tonight? W:I’d love to! I planned to go to Forest Shopping Mall tonight, but I guess I’ll go this afternoon. I can’t go to the opera in an old dress. (Text 4) W:Dr Potter, is that you? I didn’t expect to see one of my teachers here. M:Hello, Caroline. Yes, I visit this gallery quite often with my wife. W:I must introduce you to my father. He would be glad to meet you. (Text 5) M:The film is very good. Shall we meet at 8:00 pm at the entrance of the cinema? W:All right. But how can I get there? M:When you get out of the bus station, turn left and then keep walking until you come to a church. The cinema is just opposite. (Text 6) W:Hello, I need to cancel my plane ticket to Tokyo. M:Okay. Do you know the date and the booking number? W:I booked it yesterday. It is under Emma Brown, and the number is Z21455. M:Alright, here’s it. $100. You will get back only 85% of the ticket. W:I understand. M:Alright. Would you like to schedule another plane ticket? W:No, not right now. (Text 7) W:Hey, John. What are you going to do for the project? M:I don’t know. I was hoping you could help me think of something. W:Well, you’re such a good artist. You could talk about how to draw pictures in front of the class. M:Maybe, but what if I make a mistake in front of everyone? W:Come on. You’re really talented. M:Um... W:Or, how about this? You could bring in a photo and a pencil drawing of the same subject, something simple, like a flower. Then you could show the advantages and disadvantages of working with different materials. M:Great. I should find a picture first. (Text 8) W:Hi, Jeff. How was your last weekend? M:It was great. Mary, how was yours? W:My mother’s 66th birthday party was on Saturday and we had a great time. We had dinner at home and then watched an old movie. When they told me it was almost 70 years old, I thought it was going to be boring, but it was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. I laughed; I cried; I got angry. M:Wow! Now I want to see it. W:I’m dying to watch it again. Hey, why don’t we get together and have a party and we can see the movie together? M:That’s a great idea. I can bring some friends, if that’s OK. W:Sure. I’ll ask my mum to watch it with us. She can tell us all about the stars. Let’s say 6 o’clock this Saturday. (Text 9) W:Adam, how do you feel about the Montessori education approach? M:Great. It allows the children to be more creative. What do you think? W:It is excellent. But I am not going to the training this weekend. M:I will be there on Saturday morning. Why aren’t you going? W:I am in the first group with the training time from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. But my son’s birthday is on that day. M:Ah, I understand. I will let you know how the training goes. W:Thank you. What I am concerned about is whether I will do well in this program. I have been teaching the same way for ten years. I cannot imagine changing my entire teaching style. M:In fact, the children will gain a deeper understanding. Wouldn’t you like to have a try? W:Yes, we do need to change our teaching methods. I have had the same materials for the past three years. M:It is time for a change. Let’s get together on Friday night and talk about it. (Text 10) W:There is nowhere else on Earth like Kakadu National Park in the northern area of Australia. The moment you drive through its gate you are entering an ancient area full of wildlife. Here, in this vast area of land, the size of Belgium, or half of the size of Austria, you will see sights that will take your breath away. There is a lot to do and it’s not easy to choose. Kakadu Culture Camp was a good choice, but we finally decided on Yellow Water Cruise, which is more popular. Happily, Yellow Water Cruise was surely the highlight of Kakadu. We bought the Sunrise & Sunset ticket from the website, as they were offering a low price. During the tour of Yellow Water Cruise, there were only 6 people on the boat, so we could easily walk around and take pictures of various fish and active bird life. We saw loads of fresh and saltwater fish and an endless list of bird life. And the prettiest is the Azure Kingfisher, a brightly-colored bird hunting fish, which is the most impressive part of the tour.
