Back in September 1966, she started her television journey and became a reporter at the BBC Southwest branch. During her first broadcast (电视节目), Angela felt a bit scared. “I was doing a live report in front of the camera. When I got home, my dad said I looked like a rabbit caught in car headlights.” Her father gave her wise advice: “Next time you look at the camera, just imagine you’re telling me a story.” A few years later, Angela went to London to try her luck as a reporter. In 1975, she became the first regular female newsreader at the BBC and also the first woman to host the program “Nine O’ Clock News”. People at that time thought women didn’t have the authority and credibility (可信度) needed for a newsreader. Angela’s appointment (任命) was widely discussed. Then Angela left the BBC and joined the hosting team of TV-am. However, the program didn’t go well. She was fired just three months after it started because she broke a technical clause (技术条款) and was unemployed for a year. Luckily, later she got an opportunity to go to the United States. She worked as a reporter at CBS and spent a wonderful year. There, she also won an Emmy Award. When she returned to the UK, she was invited to make comments on newspapers for BBC’s “Breakfast Time”. A week later, she was invited to host programs such as “Masterteam”, “Come Dancing” and “Crufts”. Today, Angela remains a journalist at heart. “I think it’s very important to do a lot of news work in my job,” she said. “For me, being a journalist means being able to organize words to tell an appealing story that is worth listening to or reading.” 24. What can we infer about Angela from her father’s comment on her first broadcast? A. She was quite nervous. B. She made a big mistake. C. She was not well-prepared for it. D. She didn’t know how to do storytelling. 25. Why was Angela’s appointment widely discussed in 1975? A. She was too young to take the role. B. She had no experience in hosting programs. C. She left the BBC Southwest branch without being allowed. D. She faced doubts about women’s qualities as newsreaders. 26. What happened soon after Angela joined the hosting team of TV-am? A. She lost her job. B. She won many awards. C. She was invited to the US. D. She was pushed out by other hosts. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. The woman who changed the news B. Lessons from a father’ s advice C. A journalist following the light D. A career built on luck C You generally have reasons, good or bad, for your ideas. You can think carefully about those reasons: “Why do I think there’s someone quietly hiding in the room? It’s because the floor made a strange sound.” And you can also change your ideas when additional proof requires it: “Having searched the room, I must conclude that it’s just an old house.” This thinking skill is known as belief revision. It’s long been considered a mark that sets us apart from other animals. But a recent study shows that chimps (黑猩猩) can also weigh information and update their belief. In a series of experiments, researchers in Uganda tested chimps to see how the animals dealt with different sources of information. Each experiment used the food hidden in one of several boxes. The chimps would pick the box they thought was most promising based on an original clue (线索). Then they’d get another clue that sometimes disagreed with the first. Given the chance to update their decision, they almost always chose the box supported by a rational (理智的) choice model and changed their mind when the new information was stronger than what they already knew. Most impressively, the chimps even considered clues that went against earlier information. If they heard something inside box 1, according to previous experience, they would believe at first that it was an apple. But then the researchers would pull out a stone. Realizing they had been misled, the chimps would immediately choose box 2, even though it had appeared uninteresting a moment before. This study reminds us that those skills developed from thinking abilities that were already present in the common ancestor we share with chimps. More than 150 years ago, Charles Darwin thought that our mental powers would turn out to be developments of abilities found throughout the animal world. If chimps are truly able to think reasonably, the difference between us and them narrows a bit further. 28. How does the author present the idea in paragraph 1? A. By presenting an expert’s words. B. By giving an example. C. By putting forward a suggestion. D. By making a comparison. 29. How did the chimps make choices in the experiment? A. They stuck to their first choice. B. They preferred boxes that made sounds. C. They behaved based on their hunger level. D. They weighed new proof thoughtfully. 30. What can be inferred from paragraph 3? A. Chimps could realize they had got wrong information. B. Chimps could communicate well with the researchers. C. Chimps showed no interest in things other than apples. D. Chimps always failed to find hidden food at their first try. 31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. The Development of Chimps’ Thinking. B. Ways to Develop Rational Thinking Skills. C. A Special Ability Shared by Humans and Chimps. D. Differences between Humans and Animals. D Researchers in Switzerland recently taught the one-armed, four-legged ANYmal search and rescue robot to play badminton against a human. This is far from the first time robots have been trained to play sports. They’ve run marathons, skied and played ping pong. There’s even a football RoboCup. However, it’s not all fun and games. “Sports require skills,” says D’Andrea, a professor in robotics and Al. “If you want to create robots that have the ability to deal with the physical environment, you can use sports as a way of training.” The skills can then be put to work in environments that are too dull, dirty, or dangerous for humans. Sports also catch people’s attention and serve as an interesting way to show new technological advances. Though the skills robots learn from sports are mostly used in factories or dangerous jobs, the technology is already becoming a big part of sports themselves. For example, technologies like electronic line-calling (ELC) are taking the place of line judges in tennis games. However, there’s doubt whether this improves the viewer experience. For the fans, the joy of sports is that you never know what will happen. If a robot tennis player takes the field, it might attract people’s attention at first but, after a while, would anyone want to watch it? “People enjoy watching sports because they connect with the athletes. Anything that lets robots play instead of these athletes is not going to be a success,” says D’Andrea. The same is likely true for anything where human’s feelings play a central part. For over twenty years, the Japanese govemment has spent billions in developing robots for elderly people in care homes. But the use has been low. So far, it has shown that the robots didn’t alleviate the work for carers but create more. There’s a difference between pushing what tech can do and applying those tools in the wrong places. So, for now, sports people can rest easy. “I think we have to be careful that we don’t go too far just to save time and effort,” says D’Andrea. “I would ask the question: why do we want to take the place of people?” 32. Why are sports used to train robots? A. To test robots’ sporting ability. B. To improve athletes’ sports skills. C. To show an interesting way for people. D. To develop skills for real-world tasks. 33. What makes viewer experience successful? A. Match results. B. The athletes the fans love. C. Athletes’efforts. D. The skills. 34. What does the underlined word “alleviate” in Paragraph 5 mean? A. Arrange. B. Stress. C. Reduce. D. Change. 35. What is the best title for the passage? A. Robot Athletes? All for Fun! B. Should Robots Take the Sports Field? C. Sports Robots: the Wrong Thing D. He loved reading books more than anything else in the world. Every week, he made it a rule to finish two books. His favorite thing was getting lost in stories by great writers. For years, he dreamed of writing and publishing his own novel and even started working on one. But when Jack turned forty-five, something terrible happened. He developed a serious eye problem. Day by day, his eyesight got worse. Soon, reading a page made his eyes burn, and watching TV for more than ten minutes felt like a struggle. What he loved most became impossible. The sight of his bookshelf, filled with unread novels and his half-finished novel, only deepened his pain. Jack stopped smiling. He stayed in his room all day, feeling hopeless and alone. On the other side of the town, a 15-year-old student named Clare learned about Reading Friends, a charity program in Britain, which invites volunteers to visit people who can’t read anymore and read books aloud to them. Clare thought it sounded amazing and signed up right away. He imagined the joy of bringing stories back to those who had lost access to them, hoping his young voice could bridge the gap of silence. When he heard about Jack’s story, he decided to help. At first, Jack refused Clare’s offer. “What’s the point?” he told his wife Sadie who couldn’t read due to her illness. “I’m not the reader I used to be.” Three times, he closed the door on Clare. But the young volunteer didn’t give up. One day, he called Sadie and asked what kind of books Jack liked. “Ernest Hemingway,” Sadie replied. “He’s read all of Hemingway’s novels at least twice.” Hearing this, Clare had an idea. The next Saturday afternoon, Clare came to Jack’s house again. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On a sunny Saturday, Jack mentioned his half-finished novel. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 云南省罗平县第一中学2025-2026学年下学期期中考试 高二英语试卷 满分150 考试时间120分钟 注意事项: 1 . What will the speakers do next? Is it because you grew to love the food in Mexico while you worked there? M: Yes, this is surely one of the reasons, but most importantly, I am longing to expose the people here in my home town to some really delicious foreign food. W: It’s brilliant. I visited Mexico a year ago. I found many of the dishes there are very spicy and really to my taste. However, people here may not be very keen on spicy food. M: You’re right. As far as I know, not all of the food is spicy. That’s why my restaurant will mainly offer dishes that are not spicy. W: What about a small number of people who like spicy food? M: Of course, I am planning to offer traditional Mexican food for the curious and an adventurous. Furthermore, I’ve invented many new dishes that combine the local dishes with Mexican traditional dishes, which is different from other Mexican restaurants. W: That’s great. Who made the greatest contribution to David’s career? A. His father. B. His mother. C. His grandmother. A 19. C 20. W: Hello everybody. Today I’d like to share with you something about David Shannon. David was born in 1859 and grew up in Spokane, Washington. He has liked baseball and drawing since he was a child. Like children nowadays, school textbooks were his drawing paper. From junior high school, David knew that he wanted to be an artist who could play baseball. He chose the ArtCenter College of Design in California. After obtaining a degree in fine art, he went to New York, where he continued to paint his illustrations. He first painted some politically colored illustrations for New York Times, Time and Rolling Stone. Later, by chance, he drew illustrations for Julius Lester’s How Many Spots Does a Jaguar Have? This book won Newbery Medal. In 1994 David created How Georgie Radbourn Saved Baseball, which was the first book he completed independently. And it was the best picture book of the year in New York times. David’s dad also paints pictures for medical books, and his grandma is a designer of fashion bags. Overall, David’s mom has the greatest influence on his creation. She liked to save her son’s childhood paintings. She sent those childhoodish pictures to David, unexpectedly inspiring him to create No, David! This picture book won him instant fame and many awards. A Creamy Miso-Peanut Noodle Bowl If you’re short on time but wanting big flavours, these noodles are your new 30-minute hero. A career built on luck 【答案】24. A 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第二段“When I got home, my dad said I looked like a rabbit caught in car headlights. (回家后,爸爸说我看起来像被车灯照到的兔子。)”可知,“被车灯照到的兔子”常形容紧张状态,由此可推知,她当时很紧张。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“People at that time thought women didn’t have the authority and credibility (可信度) needed for a newsreader. Angela’s appointment (任命) was widely discussed. (当时人们认为女性没有新闻主播所需的权威和可信度。安吉拉的任命被广泛讨论。)”可知,她的任命引发讨论是因人们质疑女性作为新闻主播的素质。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“She was fired just three months after it started because she broke a technical clause (技术条款) and was unemployed for a year. (节目开始仅三个月后,她因违反技术条款被解雇,失业了一年。)”可知,加入TV-am后不久她失去了工作。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。文章主要讲述Angela Rippon作为记者的职业生涯,包括成为BBC首位常规女性新闻主播、遭遇解雇、赴美获奖等经历,强调其作为记者的坚持与突破,所以“The woman who changed the news (改变新闻的女性)”最能概括其突破性别限制、推动行业变化的核心,适合作为文章标题。 C You generally have reasons, good or bad, for your ideas. B 29. D 30. A 31. 根据第一段中“Why do I think there’s someone quietly hiding in the room? It’s because the floor made a strange sound.” And you can also change your ideas when additional proof requires it: “Having searched the room, I must conclude that it’s just an old house.” 根据第二段中“Given the chance to update their decision, they almost always chose the box supported by a rational (理智的) choice model and changed their mind when the new information was stronger than what they already knew. (如果有机会更新他们的决定,他们几乎总是选择由理性选择模型支持的盒子,并在新信息比他们已经知道的信息更强时改变主意。)”可知,黑猩猩在实验中会慎重考虑新证据。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“Realizing they had been misled, the chimps would immediately choose box 2, even though it had appeared uninteresting a moment before. (意识到自己被误导了,黑猩猩会立即选择盒子2,尽管它刚才看起来很无趣。)”可知,黑猩猩能够意识到自己得到了错误的信息。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,再根据第一段中“But a recent study shows that chimps (黑猩猩) can also weigh information and update their belief. (但最近的一项研究表明,黑猩猩也能权衡信息并更新它们的信念。)”以及最后一段中“If chimps are truly able to think reasonably, the difference between us and them narrows a bit further .(如果黑猩猩真的能够理性思考,那么我们和它们之间的差异就会进一步缩小。)” D Researchers in Switzerland recently taught the one-armed, four-legged ANYmal search and rescue robot to play badminton against a human. ANYmal: Robots for Dangerous Jobs 【答案】32. D 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第二段中““If you want to create robots that have the ability to deal with the physical environment, you can use sports as a way of training.” The skills can then be put to work in environments that are too dull, dirty, or dangerous for humans. (“如果你想创造出能够应对物理环境的机器人,你可以将运动作为一种训练方式。”这些技能随后可以被应用到对人类来说太枯燥、太肮脏或太危险的环境中)”可知,运动被用来训练机器人是为了发展机器人应对现实世界环境的技能。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“For the fans, the joy of sports is that you never know what will happen. If a robot tennis player takes the field, it might attract people’s attention at first but, after a while, would anyone want to watch it? “People enjoy watching sports because they connect with the athletes. Anything that lets robots play instead of these athletes is not going to be a success,” says D’Andrea.(对球迷而言,体育的魅力在于你永远不知道下一秒会发生什么。如果一个机器人网球选手上场,起初或许能吸引人们的注意,但过一段时间后,还有人想看吗?“人们喜欢观看体育比赛,是因为他们能与运动员产生共鸣。任何用机器人取代这些运动员的做法都不会成功,”D’Andrea 表示。)”可推知,观众能体验到成功是因为他们能与运动员产生共鸣,源于他们喜爱的运动员。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段中“So far, it has shown that the robots didn’t alleviate the work for carers but create more. 最后一段中D’Andrea总结说“we have to be careful that we don’t go too far just to save time and effort (我们必须小心,不要仅仅为了节省时间和精力而走得太远)”,并提出“why do we want to take the place of people? (为什么我们要取代人?)”。由此推知,文章的核心议题是探讨机器人是否应该进入体育领域。故B项“Should Robots Take the Sports Field? (机器人应该进入体育赛场吗?)”能概括文章内容,最适合做文章标题。 第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 As the college entrance examination was approaching, I was under great pressure in senior three. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The next Saturday afternoon, Clare came to Jack’s house again. This time, he carried a worn copy of The Old Man and the Sea, determined to reach Jack through the author he once loved. Instead of knocking again, Clare sat down outside the door and began reading, his voice clear and calm. Tired and hopeless, Jack did not respond at first. But the familiar story slowly worked its magic. After several minutes, the door creaked open. Jack said nothing, still leaving the door open. Clare took that as permission, stepped inside, and continued reading. By the end of the afternoon, Jack’s expression had softened. He nodded when Clare asked if he could come again. On a sunny Saturday, Jack mentioned his half-finished novel. His voice trembled slightly as he described the story he had left behind years ago. Without a word, Clare pulled out his laptop and placed it on the table. Word by word, Jack dictated, and Clare typed. Encouraged by the young volunteer, Jack poured his heart into the book. After months of hard work, the novel was finally completed and then published with Clare’s help. When the printed book arrived, Jack held it in his trembling hands, a wide smile spreading across his face. He realized that his dream as a writer had never truly been lost. More importantly, he had gained something just as precious — a friendship that reminded him he was never alone. 词汇激活 ①坐下:sit down/take a seat/be seated ②走进:step inside/enter/go into ③点头:nod/give a nod/nod one’s head 情绪类 ① 绝望:hopeless/desperate ②鼓励:encourage/give someone courage/inspire 【点睛】【高分句型1】Instead of knocking again, Clare sat down outside the door and began reading, his voice clear and calm.
