James Watson is a great American geneticist and biophysicist. He was born on April 6 in 1928 in Chicago. As a child, he loved bird-watching with his father. He attended the University of Chicago, earning a degree in zoology in 1947. During these years his boyhood interest in bird-watching had developed into a serious love for learning genetics. Watson was given a scholarship to Indiana University where he received his doctorate in 1950.
Watson then moved to Copenhagen, continuing with his research. He became interested in the DNA molecule (分子) and joined a research team at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge with Francis Crick. Here, Watson made his famous discovery recognizing the double helix structure (双螺旋结构) of DNA.
He became a professor of biology at Harvard University in 1955, a job he held until 1976. His research at Harvard zeroed in on RNA and its role in passing on genetic information, uncovering RNA’s function in gene expression. He also became the director of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York in 1968, a job that he held for 35 years. Watson turned the lab into a world center for research in molecular biology. Watson fixed his research at the lab on exploring molecular biology and genetics in order to advance the understanding and ability to recognize human diseases, and other causes of human suffering.
Watson got worldwide fame as the co-author of four scientific papers between 1953 and 1954 that laid down the double helix structure of DNA.This discovery won him the Nobel Prize in 1962. During the 1960s, Watson became one of the most celebrated science writers, when he published his textbook Molecular Biology of the Gene in 1965 and his best-seller The Double Helix in 1968. Watson became the unquestioned leading voice in the whole of American science. He is a good example of the scientific creativity in 20th-century science, giving rise to molecular biology and two ways it has been put to use: biotechnology and the “Human Genome Project”.
24.When did James Watson get his second degree?
A.After he became a professor. B.After he moved to Copenhagen.

China successfully launched 12 advanced computing satellites into low-Earth orbit using a Long March-6 rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on May 14, 2025. This mission marked a historic milestone: the official start of the Three-body Computing Constellation—the world’s first space-based computing network, named after a classic celestial mechanics problem about three-body motion. Unlike traditional satellites that only collect and transmit data back to Earth for processing, these new satellites are equipped with high-performance on-board computing systems, allowing them to analyze data directly in orbit.
Developed jointly by Zhejiang Lab, Guoxing Aerospace, and a team of 50+ aerospace engineers, each satellite boasts a computing capacity of 744 trillion operations per second. When working in the same time, the 12-satellite network forms a seamless(无缝的)“space supercomputer.” In practical tests, it detected a forest fire in Southwest China within 8 seconds and generated a 3D flood map for a disaster-hit area in just 15 seconds — tasks that once took old-style satellites 3 to 5 days to complete. This efficiency leap originates from its ability to cut out the long data transmission loop to Earth, which previously wasted 70% to 90% of mission time.
The constellation(星座) also integrates two cutting-edge technologies: 100Gbps laser communication and AI models trained on petabytes of space and Earth data. The laser links ensure ultra-fast, low-delay data sharing between satellites and ground stations, while the AI enables real-time tasks like tracking missing aircraft, monitoring extreme weather such as typhoons, and even analyzing high-energy space events. For deep-space exploration, this network is a game-rules too — it can process data from lunar probes in orbit, reducing the time delay for critical commands from weeks to mere seconds.
China has outlined an ambitious expansion plan for the constellation: by 2035, it will grow to 2,800 satellites, covering global airspace, ocean areas, and remote regions. This will create a “space-ground integrated computing system” that supports industries like smart city management, precision agriculture, and emergency response. Professor Wang Jian, the lead engineer at Zhejiang Lab, noted, “Space computing power is no longer a distant concept — it will reshape how we interact with our planet and the universe, turning challenges like disaster relief and deep-space travel into manageable tasks.” As the constellation begins regular operations, it sets a new standard for global space technology innovation.
28.What is the main feature of the Three-body Computing Constellation?
A.Named after a physics problem in space.
B.Faster in calculations than old satellites.
C.Launched via Long March rocket from Jiuquan.
D.Processes data in orbit instead of just sending to Earth .
29.What role can the new computing satellites play?
A.Sharply reduce earth message waiting time.
B.Only find forest fires and make 3D flood maps.
C.Help short-distance but not deep-space trips.
D.Monitor disasters and study space events.
30.Which is the best title for the passage?
A.The Future of Global Deep-Space Exploration.
B.A Giant Leap In Space Computing Network.
C.The Development of China’s Satellite Technology.
D.China’s New Satellites: Boosting Disaster Relief.
31.What will the following passage most probably discuss?
A.Historical failures and success of China’s satellite projects.
B.Global responses to the advance of China’s satellite plan.
C.Differences between China’s constellation and ancient tools.
D.Technical challenges and solutions in building the constellation.

In a world obsessed with IQ and EQ, a lesser-known metric — Play Quotient (PQ) — is gaining recognition as a key driver of long-term success. PQ refers to one’s ability to engage in playful thinking, embrace curiosity, and find joy in exploration — qualities that transcend (胜过) age and profession. Unlike rigid academic skills, PQ fosters adaptability, creativity, and resilience, features increasingly vital in a fast-changing society.
PQ manifests in simple yet powerful ways. It’s the employee who solves a complex problem by rephrasing it as a “game” to brainstorm solutions, the student who experiments with new ideas instead of sticking to mechanical learning, or the parent who uses play to teach life lessons. At its core, PQ is about maintaining a sense of wonder: asking “what if?” instead of accepting “what is.” This playful mindset encourages risk-taking without fear of failure, as mistakes are seen as part of the learning process rather than setbacks.
Critics may dismiss play as unimportant things, but research shows PQ is associated with significant life outcomes. Studies link higher PQ to enhance problem-solving skills, better stress management, and stronger interpersonal relationships. In the workplace, leaders with high PQ inspire teams to innovate, as they create environments where creativity is raised, not restrained. For children, playful learning builds emotional intelligence and critical thinking, laying the foundation for future success. Importantly, PQ is not born with — like a muscle, it can be strengthened through intentional practice: trying new hobbies, approaching tasks with a lighthearted attitude, and allowing oneself to “waste time” on curious pursuits.
In a culture that often prioritizes productivity over joy, nurturing PQ can feel contrary to intuition (直觉). Yet in a world where automation replaces routine tasks, human creativity and adaptability — fueled by PQ — remain irreplaceable. PQ reminds us that success isn’t just about what we know, but how we think: with curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to play.
32.What does the underlined word “manifest” most probably mean?
A.Disappear gradually. B.Improve significantly.
C.Show clearly. D.Change completely.
33.Which of the following is an example of high PQ?
A.A student memorizing textbook content word for word to pass exams.
B.An employee refusing new methods to avoid potential mistakes.
C.A parent using role-play games to help their child understand honesty.
D.A leader requiring team members to follow rules without exception.
34.It can be inferred from the passage that ________.
A.PQ is the most important factor for life success compared with IQ
B.people can enhance PQ by actively trying new and interesting things
C.PQ only benefits children’s academic performance and growth
D.individuals with high IQ are naturally equipped with strong PQ
35.What is the author’s main purpose in writing the passage?
A.To illustrate the importance of PQ as a key skill in modern life.
B.To make a detailed comparison between PQ, IQ and EQ.
C.To criticize the social trend of overvaluing productivity.
D.To provide practical methods for readers to measure their own PQ.

第二节 (满分 25 分)
Lila was a 17-year-old senior student who dreamed of joining her school’s computer team, a group famous for its success in national programming contests. For her, joining the team meant more than just pride — it was a path to a scholarship and a chance to change her family’s future. But the team required a high-quality laptop that cost about $4,000 — something she couldn’t afford. Her family barely made ends meet: her father was still recovering from illness, and her mother worked long hours as a cleaner. Lila wanted to lift some of their burden one day, and the computer team felt like the first step toward that dream.
To save money, she worked part-time at Mr. Owen’s stationery shop, where she was trusted to run the counter alone during lunch breaks. One busy Tuesday noon, Mrs. Pearson hurried in to buy expensive pens and accidentally left her handbag on the counter. After the lunch rush, Lila found it. She opened it, hoping to contact its owner — but when she saw what was inside, her breath caught: $4,000 in cash.
At that moment, her phone rang — it was the computer team coach, reminding her that the final sign-up deadline was only three days away. Her heart beat fast. For a moment, she imagined holding a new laptop in her hands, joining the team, and winning competitions. Then her father’s voice rang in her mind: “Honesty is a promise you make to yourself, even when no one is watching.” The weight of those words pressed against the urge in her heart. She stared at the bag — at what could have been her dream — and felt tears well up. She knew no one would find out if she kept it. But she also knew she wouldn’t be able to look herself in the mirror if she did.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
At last, Lila wiped her eyes and made her choice.

W: Acupuncture is one of traditional Chinese medicine treatments. My neighbor Mr. Daly sent his disabled dog Max for acupuncture. After six acupuncture treatments, the dog could hop like a rabbit! Maybe you could try it for Ginger.
M: That’s amazing! But could it work on Ginger, too? I mean he is a cat while Max is a dog.
W: You can put your mind at ease. Traditional Chinese medicine treatments work on cats as well. In fact, they’re effective for many animals.
M: Really? They must be expensive. How much did Mr. Daly spend on each acupuncture treatment?
W: About 200 yuan each time. That’s quite affordable. Mr. Daly chose traditional Chinese medicine treatments, because he thought they are good alternatives to surgeries which can be really costly.
M: True. Surgeries are also risky.
W: If you’re interested, I can ask Mr. Daly about the location of the Chinese medicine center.

17.What’s Jessica’s attitude to criticism?
A.Indifferent. B.Receptive. C.Defensive.
【答案】14.C 15.A 16.C 17.B
【原文】M: I hear you have a new play called Innocent opening soon, Jessica.
W: Next week! Unlike my last piece, which was about a man that unexpectedly becomes a millionaire, this one follows the adventures of a detective, who crosses two continents searching for a banker who’s disappeared after meeting a strange client.
M: Sounds great! Are there other things you’d like to try?
W: I’m going to take a short break, and have just signed up for a painting and sculpture course to fill the time. The thought of telling actors how to perform one of my own plays is quite frightening, so I’ve never been eager to try. And I’ve heard that a great deal of what you write gets changed if you work on a film, so I’ve turned down offers to do that.
M: And any advice for future playwrights?
W: Explore your own routine for writing, but be flexible within that. Reading similar kinds of plays is always a good idea too. And above all, don’t be afraid of receiving criticism. I wouldn’t be where I am without my husband — he looks at everything I’ve written and is totally honest about it.

【答案】18.A 19.B 20.B
【原文】W: Steve, do you know why a dish consisting of a sausage and bread is called a “hot dog”?
M: Well, one version goes that it gets the name from its shape.
W: Yes, it does look like a sausage dog.
M: Yeah, another version is that a cartoonist misspelled “Dachshund Sausage” as “hot dog” in his cartoon. After this comic book was published, the name spread across the United States.
W: So, what is the real origin? Was it invented by the Italians or the French?
M: Neither. Germans moved to America and brought sausages in the 1860s. And then a man named Feuchtwanger began to sell sausages. At first, he used gloves to keep customers from the heat. But because of the high cost, he started using bread instead of gloves.

C.When he was about 22 years old. D.When he studied in the University of Chicago.

Dear teachers and students,
Our school’s English club is carrying out an activity named “Learn Science, Use Science”. Regarding “Intelligent Technology Enters Our Life”, students hold different views. Some are in favor, thinking that intelligent technology, such as smart assistants and online payment, has greatly simplified our daily routines. However, others oppose it, worrying that excessive reliance on technology might weaken our practical abilities.
In my opinion, learning intelligent technology is of great significance. It not only enables us to keep pace with the times but also broadens our horizons. What’s more, it can cultivate our innovative thinking, which is crucial for solving real-world problems. Therefore, I believe we should embrace intelligent technology and make the most of it.

At last, Lila wiped her eyes and made her choice. She carefully placed the handbag on the counter and told Mr. Owen exactly what had happened. Mr. Owen immediately called Mrs. Pearson to explain Lila’s honesty. When Mrs. Pearson arrived at the shop, Lila handed her the bag, her hands trembling slightly. Mrs. Pearson’s eyes softened as she smiled warmly. “It takes real courage to do the right thing, especially when it’s not easy,” she said. Lila felt a surge of relief and pride, knowing that her honesty had preserved her integrity and earned the respect of someone she admired.
A few days later, Mrs. Pearson appeared at the school gate with a box. Inside was a brand-new laptop, carefully wrapped, along with a note: “Your honesty and courage deserve recognition. I hope this helps you pursue your dreams.” Lila’s eyes welled up with tears of gratitude as she realized that staying true to her values had not only kept her conscience clear but had also opened the door to the very opportunity she had longed for.
