I used to be very shy. 34 “I can’t do it. I’m too shy.” I told my worry to my friends Molly and Emily.
“You’re not alone,” said Molly. “I feel nervous about singing in public too.”
“Don’t worry! I have an idea!” said Emily. “I mean, I always feel braver with friends. 35 ”
After talking about it for a while, we agreed happily. Over the next few days, we practised the song so many times that we could not get it out of our heads.
36 I wasn’t the only one who was nervous. Molly’s legs were shaking. Emily’s hands were wet, but she still encouraged us, “We can become braver and stronger when we are together.”
Emily was right. As soon as we started singing, our nervousness went away. We sang clearly and confidently. 37 We didn’t win first prize, but we felt proud of ourselves.
I learned that teamwork can give us courage. 38

I have an idea!”以及“I mean, I always feel braver with friends.”,后文提到“After talking about it for a while, we agreed happily.”。B选项“How about the three of us sing together?”
36.第五段后文提到“I wasn’t the only one who was nervous. Molly’s legs were shaking. Emily’s hands were wet...”,这是比赛当天的紧张场景。A选项“Finally, the big day came.”

Lightning strikes (袭击) kill millions of trees each year—but it is found that some large tropical (热带的) trees can not only stay alive after they’re hit by a strike, but also benefit from its effects, according to a recent study.
Some trees are getting hit by lightning many times over their lifetime. But why can they survive? Researchers don’t know for sure. However, they think that trees will be heated less if they’re more conductive (导电的). That means the energy from lightning is just moving to their neighbors, instead of staying in them. The lightning’s strong power kills the parasitic vines (寄生藤蔓) on the trees. It also kills some other trees nearby and they don’t need to fight for food and water.
Dipteryx oleifera (油桃木), a tree in Panama’s forests, has maybe experienced 10 lightning strikes so far. It stays safe and sound, while most of the neighboring trees were killed. If you are in the forest where it is, you’ll know what it is—its huge size and height. “We believe the trees in Panama’s forests have five strikes on average (平均). But, you know, some of them surely get far more times.” Evan Gora, a forest expert said.
How long do these trees live in the forests? People can’t know how old these trees are in tropical forests because they don’t form rings that keep growing. Researchers guess many of the trees would be hundreds, or maybe even more than 1,000 years old.
What can we learn from the study? The hardest things can turn into good things, can they?
39.Why can some large tropical trees survive lightning strikes?
A.They’re not often hit by lightning.
B.The neighboring trees protect them.
C.The lightning energy moves away from them.
40.What may happen after the large trees are hit by lightning?
A.They win better living conditions.
B.They have more neighbors around.
C.They can face more kinds of danger.
41.What does the tree Dipteryx oleifera look like?
A.Old and weak. B.Huge and tall. C.Clean and thin.
42.Why can’t people tell the real age of these tropical trees?
A.The weather there is terrible.
B.People don’t have proper tools.
C.The trees don’t grow rings in a regular way.
43.Which part of the newspaper is this text taken from?
A.Health. B.Nature. C.Technology.
【答案】39.C 40.A 41.B 42.C 43.B
根据原文第二段“That means the energy from lightning is just moving to their neighbors, instead of staying in them.”
40.根据原文第二段“The lightning’s strong power kills the parasitic vines on the trees. It also kills some other trees nearby and they don’t need to fight for food and water.”
41.根据原文第三段“If you are in the forest where it is, you’ll know what it is—its huge size and height.”
42.根据原文第四段“People can’t know how old these trees are in tropical forests because they don’t form rings that keep growing.”

The long history of China leaves us thousands of stories. Now, here is one book that tells some of them. Do you think you want to follow the life of people in ancient China? 49
In this book, there are more than 1,500 characters from the Han Dynasty to the Jin Dynasty. 50 They have got their own appearance and abilities. They also think about things in different ways. But all the characters share one thing in common. They are always true to themselves.
In total, the book has got 1,130 small stories about these characters. 51 Some of them are not real, which might come from another novel. Or people heard something about one character and then it became a story in this book. Even some stories are just imaginary. 52 But in fact, some phrases from it, such as “marching to the beat of a different drum (标新立异)”, are still used today. It also inspired later writers to create similar collections of stories. Many writers like Lu Xun talked about how important this book was. Why does this book have its place in Chinese literature (文学)?
Firstly, there was no book of this kind before it came out. 53 For students, reading this book is like opening a window to the wonderful world of ancient China.
A.It sounds like this book is simply a storybook.
B.All the stories are 100 words long or even shorter.
C.If so, you can try “A New Account of Tales of the World”.
D.The stories and characters are also popular with young people.
E.What’s more, the book teaches us about creativity, bravery and staying true.
F.They are people with different jobs, such as writers and painters.
【答案】49.C 50.F 51.B 52.A 53.E
根据空前一句的设问“Do you think you want to follow the life of people in ancient China?” C项“If so, you can try “A New Account of Tales of the World”.”
50.根据空前“...more than 1,500 characters from the Han Dynasty to the Jin Dynasty.” F项“They are people with different jobs, such as writers and painters.”
51.根据空前“...the book has got 1,130 small stories about these characters.” B项“All the stories are 100 words long or even shorter.”
52.根据空前“Even some stories are just imaginary.” A项“It sounds like this book is simply a storybook.”
53.根据空前一句“Firstly, there was no book of this kind before it came out.” E项“What’s more, the book teaches us about creativity, bravery and staying true.”

Do you know what teamwork is? Teamwork means working well together as a team.
Teamwork has many benefits. First, the team can break down a large project into smaller tasks. When dealing with a large project, everyone can take on a smaller part of the work instead of placing all the burden on one person. Second, teamwork creates more opportunities. When people work together, they can solve difficult problems in the project from different perspectives (视角). People can communicate with others who have different experiences and opinions. Third, teamwork helps you recognize your strengths and weaknesses. When people work in a group, they will engage in self-reflection
However, there are some disadvantages of teamwork. First, teamwork may be unfair. Sometimes the work isn’t distributed equally. Hard-working members may receive the same rewards as the lazy ones, which is unfair. The team might fall apart. Second, it can lead to unhealthy competition. When people are placed on the same team, they may compete with each other naturally. If this becomes the group’s focus, the quality of teamwork may drop. Finally, some people who are used to working by themselves will work better alone than in a team. And their working style might not be good for team unity.
In a word, every coin has its two sides. Teamwork can really help us do better if we use it right.
54.What is teamwork according to the passage?
55.Why can people know their strengths and weaknesses when working in a group?
56.Which kind of people may work better alone than in a team?
57.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
58.Do you like working in a team? Why or why not?
54.Teamwork means working well together as a team. 55.Because they will engage in self-reflection. 56.Some people who are used to working by themselves. 57.The disadvantages of teamwork. 58.Yes, I do. Because teamwork can divide a large project into smaller tasks and create more opportunities.
根据文章第 1 段“Teamwork means working well together as a team.”,可直接得到团队合作的定义。
55.根据文章第 2 段“When people work in a group, they will engage in self-reflection.”
56.根据文章第 3 段“some people who are used to working by themselves will work better alone than in a team.”
57.根据文章第 3 段“However, there are some disadvantages of teamwork.”

User 1
Dear friend,
It is great that you are interested in Chinese customs.
We respect the elderly deeply, so we let elders start eating first to show our love and good manners. Besides, don’t stick chopsticks straight in rice and try not to tap bowls. These rules carry our traditional virtue of politeness. They help people get along warmly and show respect to each other, making family meals full of warmth.
Wish you a wonderful Dragon Boat Festival dinner!
User 2
Dear friend,
It is great that you are interested in Chinese customs.
It’s thoughtful of you to prepare a small gift before visiting your classmate’s home. You can bring local snacks or fresh flowers as gifts, but avoid clocks or pears, as they have unlucky meanings in Chinese culture. When visiting, remember to knock before entering and greet the family politely. It’s also good to offer a hand when needed. Being polite and natural is the key to being a welcome guest.
