A
There is an old saying that all of us are born with two bags hung on our necks. The small bag in
front of our chest is filled up with other people's faults, while the big one at the back is full of our own shortcomings.
So it's easy to find other people's faults, but it's hard for us to see our faults behind us.
There was a boy, Tommy, who always opened the front bag to check what was in it. He saw other people's faults very quickly. When Simon was impatient with him, he said to Simon," It's so easy for
you to get angry. It is hard to be friends with you."
He told his mother about Jack's dishonesty." Jack takes my things without asking. He also forgets
to return them." Tommy himself did not like sharing his things with anyone.
When Johnny was too tired to play with him, he said," You' are such a rude person."
He thought Harry was too proud of his rich parents. But Tommy was proud of himself because he
could not see any of his own shortcomings! He could not understand why he did not get on well with
others. If only Tommy would switch the bags around, he would discover his own impatience,
dishonesty, bad manners and vanity, which were no better than those of Simon, Jack, Johnny or Harry.
根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。
( )36. Tommy thought it was hard to be friends with Simon because Simon was impatient.
( )37. Tommy liked sharing his things with others.

In some cultures, tea drinking is an important social event with special customs. China and the
United Kingdom are two countries with well-known tea traditions.
In China, there are special ways of drinking tea, from filling the cup to thanking the person who
serves it. A tea drinker can show thanks by tapping(轻敲) the table with fingers. In Chinese society, tea
customs can express different feelings. For example, offering tea to elders is a way of showing respect.
In other situations, pouring tea for someone can be a way to say sorry. Also, when a new couple gets
married, they may serve tea to their parents to show thanks for all the care and love their parents gave
them while growing up.
In the United Kingdom, tea culture is a part of daily routine. Afternoon tea, the most famous British
tea ceremony, began in the 1840s. It usually takes place between 4 and 6 p. m., but sometimes earlier
or later. Afternoon tea is a time for conversation and relaxation, when people take a break from
their busy day. Traditionally, it includes a light snack and sandwiches. The tea, which often comes from
India or Sri Lanka, is served in a silver teapot and fine china cups in a relaxing way.
In China, tea customs are a usual way to express feelings. In the United Kingdom, tea customs help
break up the workday and give people a chance to socialize and rest. But these traditions are
disappearing in both countries as time goes by. What purposes do tea customs in your country serve?

D
A young gardener felt upset. His small greenhouse had been his pride and joy, where he spent hours
every day looking after the plants. However, things went wrong recently. His beautiful rosebushes,
which he hoped would bloom for the spring festival, showed no sign of flowers. Only a few weak and
yellow leaves stayed on the branches.
" All my hard work has been useless. " he sighed and sat against the wall. That evening, an old
gardener came and found the young man hopelessly. Without saying anything, the old man picked up a
trowel(小铲子) and loosened(松动) the soil around the roots. He then cut off some of the weakest
branches. The young man was shocked. “Stop! What are you doing? You' re killing my roses!” he
shouted." Be patient, " the old man said calmly. "A rose can't bloom if it has to support too many
weak branches. It must let go of some load to gather strength. If you don't do that, it will
exhaust(耗尽) itself trying to keep every leaf alive.”
The young man hesitated, then stepped back and watched. Weeks later, following the old man's
advice, the roses finally bloomed. At the end of spring, the whole greenhouse was full of beautiful
red flowers and sweet smell.

On December 26,2025, China opened the world's longest expressway tunnel(高速公路隧道) to
the public-the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel. It goes through the Tianshan Mountains for 22.13 kilometers.
This project has changed the travel between norther and southern Xinjiang. It was completed in
December 2024 and reduced the travel time across the mountains from nearly3 hours to just 20
minutes.
The Tianshan Mountains lie in the heart of Xinjiang and they divide Xinjiang into two parts. In
the past, crossing these mountains was very hard. Thanks to this tunnel, the driving time between
Urumqi and Korla has been shortened from nearly 7 hours to 3.5 hours.
Why did workers build such a long tunnel so quickly? Because they used a new plan of “three
tunnels+ four vertical shafts(三洞+四竖井)”. But building the tunnel was not easy. Workers worked
at 3,000 meters above sea level, where winter temperatures drop to-42C. And earthquakes are also
common in this area. Although they faced these difficulties, it took the workers just five years to
finish the project.
This tunnel shows us how clever and brave Chinese workers are. It isn't just another line on a
map, it is the power of courage and creativity.
