A wonderful Chinese movie, Dear You (电影《给阿嬷的情书》) came out during the May Day holiday in 2026. It was made on a low budget (预算) and had no famous movie stars. However, it achieved great success. It got a high score online and won many people’s praise. What’s more, most of its actors and creators are local people from Chaoshan. Their simple and real acting helps the movie touch lots of viewers.
The movie tells a simple but moving story. It centers on an old Chaoshan grandma called Ye Shurou. Many years ago, her husband went to Nanyang, which refers to Southeast Asia, to make a living. From then on, she waited for him and received letters and money for nearly half a century. People call these special letters and money qiaopi. Qiaopi was widely used by overseas Chinese to send love and care back to their families. In 2013, qiaopi was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register (世界记忆名录). Later, the grandma’s grandson discovered a big secret. After her husband passed away, a warm-hearted stranger named Xie Nanzhi kept sending qiaopi to support the grandma’s family silently.
This movie wins people’s hearts for two main reasons. First, it shows the difficult life of Chinese people living abroad. Second, it presents the fine spirit of Chaoshan people: hard-working, kind, united and deeply attached to their hometown. The grandma always says, “A person should be full of love and duty.” All the small and true details make the movie warm and leave a lasting impression on every viewer.

D. They both prove that money is the most important thing.

Do you ever notice how one song can make your day? That’s because music doesn’t just enter your ears, it also works on your brain. It can actually impact both your feelings and your memory. Like a special gift may make you feel warm and always remember the day you got it.
Music can lift your spirits in a great way. This is because music turns on a part of the brain called the amygdala, and it sends out special chemicals known as hormones (荷尔蒙). One powerful hormone is dopamine (多巴胺), which helps people feel happy. Music also encourages the brain to produce another kind of hormone called oxytocin (催产素), which helps people feel close to each other.
Music also works on memory because when you listen to music, a memory area called the hippocampus becomes active. It helps store and recall information. Songs with fixed beats or repeated melodies make the hippocampus more active. As a result, the brain can group, repeat and remember information better. Some language courses use this idea. They teach words and sentences with catchy songs.
What music does to our brain makes it very useful. Many people play soft background music while working, because it helps them relax and keep their mind on work. Students can also use music to review words: say them to the beat, or make a new song with the word list. In hospitals, music is sometimes used to help patients with memory problems. Songs from childhood can bring back old memories and help them feel safe.
Next time when you feel stressed out or forget what you have just learned, turn to music. Pick a song that matches your purpose, and let your brain reset.
23. What does the underlined word “impact” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Discover. B. Influence. C. Store. D. Collect.
24. Which is the right process from music to feelings according to Paragraph 2?
A. music→anygdala→hormones (dopamine)→feel happy
B. music→anygdala→hormones (oxytocin)→feel happy
C. music→hormones (dopamine)→amygdala→feel close
D. music→hormones (oxytocin)→amygdala→feel close
25. Choose the question whose answer can be found in the text.
A. How do doctors treat all kinds of illnesses with music?
B. What advantages can music bring to people?
C. When did people begin to use background music?
D. Why do students dislike learning words with songs?
26. The best title for the passage is ________.
A. The Power of Music B. Music Around the World
C. Music and Feelings D. Music for Fast Learning

As winter comes, hands can easily get cold. Thick gloves might be a good choice, but sometimes wearing them is inconvenient. However, this was not a problem for ancient Chinese people, who had a fine tool to warm their hands: hand warmers.
There is one folk story about its invention. Emperor Yang from the Sui Dynasty visited Jiangsu in winter. Because of the cold, a local official asked craftsmen (工匠人) to make a small warmer for the emperor that could be held in his hands. So, the hand warmer was created.
By the Song Dynasty, the warmers became more popular among the common people. Skills for producing the tool were widely used in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Many poets from this period kept a record of people using hand warmers.
In the early days, copper (铜) was generally used in the production process. It was more suitable than silver, iron and porcelain because it could transfer (传递) heat better, while reducing the risk of breakage or corrosion (腐蚀). Inside a hand warmer, there were coals, some of which were mixed with flowers, giving off a nice smell when burned.
Ancient hand warmers had different designs. Round, square and octagonal shapes were typical, and there were also some fashioned shapes which looked like pumpkins, flowers and turtle shells. The patterns on the warmers would usually be animals or symbols with good meanings, such as deer, flowers or the Chinese characters for long life.

例文
Dear David,
On June 4th, our school organized a study trip to the Yellow River Canyon.
We visited a museum and learned a lot about the history of the Yellow River. Then we took a sheepskin raft on the river. It was exciting and amazing. We also listened to stories about Da Yu and learned his spirit of never giving up. This trip taught me the importance of protecting the river. I felt very proud of our culture.
I hope you can come to China and visit the Yellow River Canyon. I’m sure you will love it!
Yours,
Li Hua
