Passage 1
Listen to the way you talk about your own life on a daily basis. I am not talking about your formal presentations; I am talking about your casual, throwaway complaints. “My luck is absolutely terrible.” “I cannot handle this anymore.” You think you are just complaining to your friends or to yourself. 1
You think acting like a pessimistic loser protects you from disappointment. 2 And your brain does not understand self-deprecating (自嘲), and it does not know when you are just joking. Your subconscious mind is a perfectly obedient (顺从的) servant. It listens to every single word that comes out of your mouth. Then it treats it as a direct command, and immediately searches for evidence to prove you right. You keep complaining “I am completely stuck.” 3 It stops looking for the exit because you have already announced that there isn’t one.
4 Instead of saying “I am dying of stress”, they say “I am operating at high capacity.” They never ask, “Why is this happening to me?” They ask, “What is this trying to teach me?” This subtle linguistic anchor is not just cheap self-help phrases. It is a fundamental reshape of your mindset. It shifts your identity from a passive victim to an active creator.
It is time to be serious about what you say. 5 Stop using your own mouth to curse (诅咒) the beautiful life you are trying to build. You must cultivate the courage to speak highly of yourself, your capabilities, and your future. Speak like a winner, and the world will eventually have no choice but to agree
A.You have already put huge pressure on your friends
B.Your words are the invisible architecture of your reality.
C.In reality, you are casting dark spells over your own life path.
D.But negative language patterns don’t make the suffering hurt less.
E.When your current reality looks depressing, use negative.
F.Your brain accordingly shuts down its creative problem-solving centers.
G.I see many brilliant people who live by a value system of self-encouragement.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.F 4.G 5.B
【导语】文章主要介绍日常消极抱怨的语言会潜移默化影响自身心态与现实,倡导人们改用积极语言、重塑心态、正向自我暗示。
1.上文“You think you are just complaining to your friends or to yourself.(你以为你只是在向朋友或自己抱怨)”说明人们误以为随口抱怨无伤大雅,C选项“In reality, you are casting dark spells over your own life path.(事实上,你正在给自己的人生道路施加黑暗的魔咒)”承接上文,转折指出消极抱怨的真实危害,颠覆人们的错误认知,上下文语义衔接自然。
2.上文“You think acting like a pessimistic loser protects you from disappointment.(你以为表现得像悲观的失败者能让自己免受失望的打击)”介绍人们的错误想法,D选项“But negative language patterns don’t make the suffering hurt less.(但消极的语言模式并不会减轻痛苦)”与上文构成转折关系,指出消极自我暗示并无益处。
3.上文“You keep complaining ‘I am completely stuck.’(你一直抱怨‘我彻底陷入困境了’)”说明持续的消极语言暗示,F选项“Your brain accordingly shuts down its creative problem-solving centers.(你的大脑会随之关闭创造性的问题解决中枢)”承接上文,介绍消极抱怨带来的大脑反应;下文“It stops looking for the exit because you have already announced that there isn’t one.(它会停止寻找出路,因为你已经宣称没有出路了)”进一步承接F选项,说明大脑停止解决问题的具体表现。
4.下文“Instead of saying “I am dying of stress”, they say “I am operating at high capacity.”(他们不会说“我压力大到要死了”,而是说“我正在满负荷运转”)”介绍了一类人的积极语言表达方式,G选项“I see many brilliant people who live by a value system of self-encouragement.(我见过许多优秀的人,秉持自我鼓励的价值体系生活)”总领本段,引出下文优秀人群的正向语言与心态做法,契合段落主旨。
5.上文“It is time to be serious about what you say.(是时候认真对待自己的言语了)”强调言语的重要性,B选项“Your words are the invisible architecture of your reality.(你的言语是构建自身现实的无形框架)”承接上文,进一步阐释言语的巨大影响力;下文“Stop using your own mouth to curse the beautiful life you are trying to build.(不要再用自己的言语诅咒你努力经营的美好生活)”基于该观点提出具体行动建议,上下文衔接流畅。
Passage 2
It is natural to compare ourselves with others and to get caught in a mental comparison cycle, yet this is seldom beneficial. You may have heard the expression, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” 1
Comparison not only robs us of joy, but it can also fuel self-criticism and a lack of self-acceptance. 2 “I am not as successful and competent as they are.” “Why don’t I have what they have?” We use comparison as a way of self-criticism, which prevents self-acceptance.
Another issue with comparison is that it causes unrealistic expectations. When we compare ourselves to others, we often overlook the context of their journey. We see the success, but not the failures, sacrifices or struggles. 3 But in reality, no one’s life is without difficulties, and by focusing on someone else’s highlights, we’re ignoring the complexity of our own story.
Comparison may secretly play tricks on us. If we meet expectations, lose weight, or get a promotion, we will feel better, calmer, and stop comparing ourselves. This may be temporarily true. 4 We can always find something else to compare, another expectation we tell ourselves we are not meeting, leaving us feeling worse once again.
Let go of the idea that you need to compete with others. Life is not a race, and there is no finish line you must cross to prove your worth. Instead of comparing, try to celebrate others’ successes and use them as inspiration for your own journey. 5 Not just for yourself, but for those around you.
A.Yet comparison is an endless process.
B.Comparison lowers your sense of security.
C.So what can we do to break free from comparison?
D.Typically, it leads to perceiving others as superior to us.
E.By doing so, you create an environment of positivity and growth.
F.This makes it easy to assume that everyone else is living a perfect life.
G.This rings true as comparing ourselves with others makes happiness hard to feel.
【答案】1.G 2.D 3.F 4.A 5.E
【导语】这篇文章主要介绍了与人攀比弊大于利,它会夺走快乐、引发自我否定与不切实际的期待,且永无止境。我们应放下攀比,欣赏他人的成功,以此激励自己,营造积极的生活氛围。
1.前文“You may have heard the expression, “Comparison is the thief of joy.”(您或许听过这样一句话:“比较是快乐的小偷。”)”引用了经典谚语,空格需要对这句谚语进行解释和印证。G选项“This rings true as comparing ourselves with others makes happiness hard to feel.(这句话千真万确,因为与他人比较会让我们难以感受到幸福。)”中,This rings true 直接呼应前文的谚语,makes happiness hard to feel完美解释了“偷走快乐”的含义,逻辑严丝合缝。
2.前文“Comparison not only robs us of joy, but it can also fuel self-criticism and a lack of self-acceptance.(比较不仅会剥夺我们的快乐,还会助长自我批评和缺乏自我接纳的心态。)”指出比较会“助长自我批评和自我接纳的缺失”,后文““I am not as successful and competent as they are.” “Why don’t I have what they have?”(“我不像他们那样成功和有能力。”“为什么我没有他们拥有的那些?”)”紧接着列举了两句典型的自我否定内心独白。空格需要一个过渡句,说明比较如何导致自我批评。D选项“Typically, it leads to perceiving others as superior to us.(通常情况下,它会让我们觉得别人比自己更优秀。)”精准点明了比较的核心心理后果,正是因为觉得别人更优越,才会产生后文“我不如他们”的自我批判,形成完整的逻辑链条。
3.前文“We see the success, but not the failures, sacrifices or struggles.(我们看到了他们的成功,却看不到他们的失败、牺牲或挣扎。)”说明我们在比较时“只看到别人的成功,看不到他们的失败、牺牲和挣扎”,后文“But in reality, no one’s life is without difficulties, and by focusing on someone else’s highlights, we’re ignoring the complexity of our own story.(但实际上,没有人的人生是毫无困难的,而通过关注别人的成功亮点,我们却忽略了自己故事的复杂性。)”转折指出“没有人的生活是没有困难的”。空格需要说明这种片面认知带来的错误结论。F选项“This makes it easy to assume that everyone else is living a perfect life.(这让我们很容易认为其他人都过着完美的生活。)”中,This指代前文“只看别人高光时刻” 的行为,正好引出后文对“完美生活”假象的反驳,逻辑连贯。
4.前文“If we meet expectations, lose weight, or get a promotion, we will feel better, calmer, and stop comparing ourselves. This may be temporarily true.(如果我们达到了预期目标、成功减重或者获得了晋升,我们会感觉更好、更平静,并且不再与他人进行比较。这在短期内可能是真的。)”提到“达到目标后停止比较”只是暂时的,后文“We can always find something else to compare, another expectation we tell ourselves we are not meeting, leaving us feeling worse once again.(我们总能找到其他的东西来比较,我们告诉自己我们没有达到的另一个期望,让我们再次感觉更糟。)”进一步说明 “我们总能找到新的比较对象和未达成的期望”。空格需要点明比较的本质特征。A选项“Yet comparison is an endless process.(然而比较是一个永无止境的过程。)”中,Yet 转折前文的“temporarily true(暂时正确)”,endless process 完美概括了后文“总能找到新的比较点”的内容,是本段的核心观点。
5.前文“Instead of comparing, try to celebrate others’ successes and use them as inspiration for your own journey.(与其比较,不如试着为他人的成功而庆祝,并将这些作为自己前行的激励。)” E选项“By doing so, you create an environment of positivity and growth.(通过这样做,你会创造一个积极向上、共同成长的环境。)”中,By doing so指代前文的正确做法,positivity and growth 与后文的“为了自己和身边的人”形成呼应,完美收束全文。
Passage 3
Hotels do not price rooms in the same way a shop prices a lamp or a suitcase. 1 The same room in the same building can be worth very different amounts depending on the day, season, and local demand. A beachfront hotel in summer is operating differently from the same room during a quieter month. Even weekends and weekdays can produce different patterns, depending on the type of traveller the hotel attracts.
Then what actually causes prices to move? Several factors shape hotel room rates, sometimes all at once. Demand is the obvious one. Booking window also matters. Some travelers book months in advance, while others leave it until the last minute. 2 If rooms are selling earlier than usual, rates may increase sooner. If there is unexpected availability closer to arrival, prices may be adjusted again. Competition plays a role too. 3 If similar nearby properties are filling up, or charging more, that affects how a hotel positions its own rates.
Nowadays, many properties rely on hotel management software to make pricing more responsive. Rather than guessing or checking rates occasionally, these tools help hotels analyse booking trends, monitor market signals, and update pricing in line with real demand. 4 It means hotels are using better information to make better decisions. Instead of relying on instinct alone, they can react to changes in occupancy, pace, and market conditions more confidently.
Understanding how hotel pricing works can make booking decisions feel less frustrating. Travelling outside peak periods, avoiding major local event dates, or booking earlier can all help. It also helps to compare dates rather than looking at one night in isolation (孤立状态). 5
A.Hotels do not operate in isolation.
B.Hotels track these patterns closely.
C.A room’s value depends heavily on timing.
D.If a room goes unsold tonight, that money is gone for good.
E.Hotels are under pressure to respond faster and more accurately.
F.This does not mean prices are invented at random by a machine.
G.A small shift in travel plans can sometimes lead to a much better rate.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.F 5.G
【导语】文章介绍酒店客房定价和普通商品定价方式不同,分析了影响房价波动的各类因素,还提及酒店借助软件调整定价,并给出了旅客订房的实用建议。
1.根据前文“Hotels do not price rooms in the same way a shop prices a lamp or a suitcase.(酒店客房的定价方式和商店售卖灯具、行李箱的定价方式并不相同)”以及后文“The same room in the same building can be worth very different amounts depending on the day, season, and local demand.(同一栋楼里的同一间客房,价格会因日期、季节和当地需求而产生很大差异)”可知,本段侧重说明影响客房价格的因素。C选项“A room’s value depends heavily on timing.(客房价格在很大程度上取决于时间)”衔接上下文,符合语境。
2.根据前文“Some travelers book months in advance, while others leave it until the last minute.(有些旅客提前数月预订,也有人直到最后一刻才预订)”以及后文“If rooms are selling earlier than usual, rates may increase sooner. If there is unexpected availability closer to arrival, prices may be adjusted again.(如果客房售罄时间早于往常,房价会提前上涨;临近入住时若出现剩余空房,价格又会再次调整)”可知,酒店对于旅客常见的做法。B选项“Hotels track these patterns closely.(酒店会密切追踪这些规律)”承接前后内容,符合语境。
3.根据后文“If similar nearby properties are filling up, or charging more, that affects how a hotel positions its own rates.(如果周边同类酒店客房满房或提高价格,也会影响这家酒店的定价)”可知,酒店定价会受周边同行影响。A选项“Hotels do not operate in isolation.(酒店并非孤立运营)”引出下文。
4.根据前文“these tools help hotels analyse booking trends, monitor market signals, and update pricing in line with real demand.(这类软件帮助酒店分析预订趋势、监测市场信号,并根据实际需求调整价格)”以及后文“It means hotels are using better information to make better decisions.(这意味着酒店依托更全面的信息做出更合理的决策)”可知,此处说明软件定价也要考虑很多因素。F选项“This does not mean prices are invented at random by a machine.(这并不代表价格是机器随意设定的)”承上启下,符合语境。
5.根据前文“Understanding how hotel pricing works can make booking decisions feel less frustrating. Travelling outside peak periods, avoiding major local event dates, or booking earlier can all help. It also helps to compare dates rather than looking at one night in isolation(孤立状态).(了解酒店的定价规则,能让预订过程少些困扰。避开出行旺季、当地大型活动日期,或是提前预订,这些方法都能有所帮助。另外,不要只单独查看某一晚的房价,多对比不同日期,同样管用)”可知,空处给旅客提出订房建议。G选项“A small shift in travel plans can sometimes lead to a much better rate.(稍微调整出行计划,有时就能拿到实惠得多的房价)”承接上文建议,总结收尾,符合语境。
Passage 4
As an artist who also teaches, I never saw these two roles as separate. 1 I believed teaching would keep me close to art, but I didn’t expect how deeply it would reshape me — not just my time, but how I think, see, and create. Through teaching, I’ve become a more grounded and aware artist, and here’s how.
First, teaching taught me to explain my work. When I started, I couldn’t just rely on intuition (直觉). I had to slow down and find words for why a piece works. This skill is invaluable, whether writing an artist statement or talking about my process. Teaching trained me to pay attention to what I was actually doing, not just what I thought I was doing. 2
Next, teaching keeps me connected to the basics. As I repeatedly teach principles like composition, colour, and contrast, I’m reminded how essential they remain. 3 When my own work feels off, I return to these foundations — not rigidly, but to check my structure and ensure I haven’t lost the thread.
4 Beginners often create without worrying about rules or reception. Observing this freedom encourages me to step out of my comfort zone, try new things, and avoid becoming too rigid in my methods. Teaching keeps my creativity fresh and prevents me from becoming overly precious with my work.
In brief, teaching has become an inseparable part of my art practice. It has sharpened how l communicate, rooted me in fundamentals, and renewed my creative bravery. 5 Together, they have made me the artist I am today.
A.These roles don’t just overlap; they fuel each other.
B.Finally, my students, especially beginners, inspire courage.
C.Advanced techniques are more attractive to professional artists.
D.Instead, they feel like different parts of the same conversation.
E.Therefore, I usually finish my teaching before I start to create art.
F.The basics are often ignored, yet they are the true foundation of great art.
G.And over time, that made me more confident in how I talk about my work.
【答案】1.D 2.G 3.F 4.B 5.A
【导语】文章主要介绍身兼艺术家与教师双重身份的作者,教学工作从表达能力、艺术基础、创作思维等方面促进自身艺术创作与成长。
1.上文“As an artist who also teaches, I never saw these two roles as separate.(作为一名同时从事教学的艺术家,我从不认为这两个身份是相互独立的)”表明作者不认为艺术家和教师两个身份相互割裂,D选项“Instead, they feel like different parts of the same conversation.(相反,它们如同同一场交流的不同部分)”承接上文,进一步阐释两个身份的关联关系。
2.上文“Teaching trained me to pay attention to what I was actually doing, not just what I thought I was doing.(教学锻炼我专注自身实际创作行为,而非主观臆想的创作状态)”介绍教学带来的能力提升,G选项“And over time, that made me more confident in how I talk about my work.(久而久之,这让我在阐述自己的作品时更加自信)”承接上文,递进说明这项能力带来的积极影响。
3.上文“As I repeatedly teach principles like composition, colour, and contrast, I’m reminded how essential they remain.(我反复讲授构图、色彩、对比等艺术原理,不断意识到这些基础内容至关重要)”强调艺术基础的重要价值,F选项“The basics are often ignored, yet they are the true foundation of great art.(基础知识常常被忽视,却是优秀艺术真正的根基)”承接上文,深化艺术基础的核心作用;下文“When my own work feels off, I return to these foundations(当我的作品状态不佳时,我就回归这些基础)”与选项内容呼应。
4.下文“Beginners often create without worrying about rules or reception. Observing this freedom encourages me to step out of my comfort zone, try new things, and avoid becoming too rigid in my methods.(初学者创作时不拘泥于规则和外界评价,这份自由激励我走出舒适区、尝试新事物,避免创作方式僵化)”讲述学生带给作者的创作启发,B选项“Finally, my students, especially beginners, inspire courage.(最后,我的学生,尤其是初学者,给予我勇气)”总领本段内容,贴合前文First、Next的分层论述结构。
5.上文“It has sharpened how I communicate, rooted me in fundamentals, and renewed my creative bravery.(教学提升了我的表达能力,让我扎根艺术基础,重塑了我的创作勇气)”总结了教学对艺术创作的多重积极作用,A选项“These roles don’t just overlap; they fuel each other.(这两个身份不仅相互交融,还能彼此赋能)”总结全文,呼应开篇双身份相辅相成的核心观点。

Passage 6
Plants don’t hear sound like humans do, but they can feel vibrations from sound and respond positively to certain types of music, according to a study published in Nature. The sound vibrations from music copy natural influences like wind or water. 1 They have taller stems (茎), larger flowers, and healthier leaves. Singing can also encourage healthy plants by adding CO₂.
Chris Beardshaw, a gardening expert, conducted a greenhouse experiment comparing music types. He discovered that classical music slightly improved growth, while the music of rock and roll singer Cliff Richard led to plants dying. The loud, rhythmic energy of heavy metal proved most effective for flowering. 2
Overall, findings seem to demonstrate that plants prefer more rhythmic types, especially classical and heavy metal. According to the garden company Moana nursery, classical music seems to work wonders to keep the pores (气孔) on the outer skin of plants open longer. 3 Heavy metal appears to stimulate even greater growth. You can even find playlists on Spotify made just for your plants.
However, understanding plants’ music taste can be tricky. It can depend on all sorts of variables like plant type, music style, and environmental factors. 4 The improvements in plant health observed during these studies could also be caused by better plant care and attentive behavior from caretakers.
5 Play Mozart’s light music as you tend to flowers, or put on Metallica’s energetic beats while planting vegetables. You might notice lusher (更茂盛的) growth, or maybe no change at all. But either way, at the very least, you’ll have a great soundtrack.
A.In this way, they can take in more air.
B.Plants may sense someone is watching them nearby.
C.It was revealed that plants exposed to music grow faster.
D.After all, unlike animals, plants’ sense of hearing is weak.
E.Stricter controls are needed to link music and plant growth.
F.A link between energetic music and plant health is suggested.
G.Whether plants like music or not, adding it to your gardening.
【答案】1.C 2.F 3.A 4.E 5.G
【导语】文章主要讲述了研究表明植物虽无听觉,但能感知特定音乐的振动以促进生长,并建议园艺中加入音乐。
1.上文“The sound vibrations from music copy natural influences like wind or water.(音乐产生的声音振动模仿了风和流水等自然影响)”说明音乐振动对植物的作用机制。下文“They have taller stems, larger flowers, and healthier leaves.(它们拥有更高的茎、更大的花朵和更健康的叶子)”描述了听音乐后植物的具体生长表现。空处承上启下,应总结植物接触音乐后的整体变化。选项C“It was revealed that plants exposed to music grow faster.(研究表明,接触音乐的植物生长得更快)”中的“grow faster”概括了下文提到的茎高、花大、叶茂等现象,与上下文逻辑连贯,符合语境。
2.上文“The loud, rhythmic energy of heavy metal proved most effective for flowering.(事实证明,重金属那种响亮、有节奏的能量对开花最有效)”说明了重金属音乐对植物开花的积极影响。空处应承接上文,进一步说明这种能量与植物健康之间的联系。选项F“A link between energetic music and plant health is suggested.(这表明了充满活力的音乐与植物健康之间存在联系)”直接总结了上文的实验发现,起到了承上启下的作用,符合语境。
3.上文“According to the garden company Moana nursery, classical music seems to work wonders to keep the pores (气孔) on the outer skin of plants open longer.(据莫阿纳苗圃花园公司称,古典音乐似乎具有奇效,能使植物表皮上的气孔保持更长时间的张开状态)”解释了古典音乐的物理效应。下文“Heavy metal appears to stimulate even greater growth.(重金属似乎能刺激植物长得更好)”继续对比不同音乐的效果。空处应解释气孔张开带来的直接结果。选项A“In this way, they can take in more air.(通过这种方式,它们可以吸入更多的空气)”中的“this way”指代前文“pores open longer”,逻辑上解释了植物长势更好的原因,符合语境。
4.上文“It can depend on all sorts of variables like plant type, music style, and environmental factors.(这可能取决于各种变量,如植物类型、音乐风格和环境因素)”指出了研究的复杂性。下文“The improvements in plant health observed during these studies could also be caused by better plant care and attentive behavior from caretakers.(在这些研究中观察到的植物健康状况的改善,也可能是由于园丁更好的照料和关注行为造成的)”提出了植物变好的另一种可能性(安慰剂效应或照顾更周)。空处应起到转折或提出质疑的作用,指出因果关系的不确定性。选项E“Stricter controls are needed to link music and plant growth.(要将音乐与植物生长联系起来,需要更严格的控制)”指出了当前研究的局限性,与后文内容相呼应,符合语境。
5.下文“Play Mozart’s light music as you tend to flowers, or put on Metallica’s energetic beats while planting vegetables.(在照料花卉时播放莫扎特的轻音乐,或者在种植蔬菜时放上Metallica充满活力的节拍)”给出了具体的行动建议。空处应为本段的主题句,号召读者采取行动。选项G“Whether plants like music or not, adding it to your gardening.(无论植物是否喜欢音乐,把它加入你的园艺活动中吧)”既呼应了标题的不确定性,又引出了下文的具体做法,符合语境。
Passage 7
Benefits of Calling Friends and Family
Lately, I’ve been texting more than calling, fearing calls are disturbing. 1 It reveals we overestimate the awkwardness of calls and underestimate how much closer they make us feel, compared to texts. Though texting is the norm, it may not offer the same interpersonal benefits or ease loneliness as effectively as phone conversations.
2 Our voices convey emotions in ways texts cannot, which is vital for connections. According to Evolution and Human Behavior, hearing a familiar voice reduces stress and stimulates oxytocin (催产素), the chemical that builds warmth and trust. Also, calling reduces misunderstandings. In one study, participants reported miscommunications in texts due to a lack of verbal clues, unclear emotional intention, and uncertainty about the sender’s attention. The simplicity of texts, along with acronyms (首字母缩写) and poor punctuation (标点), further complicates interpretation.
Delayed text replies can create uncertainty about the sender’s feelings, while phone conversations provide immediate clarity through tone and real-time responses. 3 Yet, research in the Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy shows that using texts for serious discussions or apologies can lead to more conflict in future interactions. Only affectionate texts had a positive effect.
However, none of the research is meant to imply that texting is always a poor choice for communicating. It remains useful across time zones, for those with speech or hearing challenges, or for quick, practical updates. It can also ease social anxiety. 4
And then there are some who are just not used to talking on the phone, particularly young people who’ve grown up in a texting culture. Still, they recognize that calling may be better with certain people. At least some parents are encouraging them to call. So, why not consider picking up a phone and making a call a little more often? 5 And your relationships might become even closer, too.
A.Familiar voices avoid misunderstandings.
B.Many choose texting to get time to weigh their words.
C.Calling may feel too close or stressful for some people.
D.Of course, texting really shines for someone used to texting.
E.You may be surprised by how much better it feels to talk than to text.
F.For those who prefer texting, calling can still strengthen social bonds.
G.However, a study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology made a finding.

1.前文“Lately, I’ve been texting more than calling, fearing calls are disturbing.( 最近,我打电话的次数比发短信的要少,因为我担心打电话会让人感到打扰的。)”作者自述“习惯发短信、怕打电话打扰别人”,以及后文“It reveals we overestimate the awkwardness of calls and underestimate how much closer they make us feel, compared to texts.( 这表明我们高估了通话的尴尬程度,而低估了通话相比短信更能让我们感受到的亲密感。)”直接引出研究结论 “我们高估了打电话的尴尬,低估了它带来的亲近感”。空格需要一个过渡句引出研究。G 选项“However, a study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology made a finding.( 然而,《实验心理学杂志》的一项研究得出了一个结论。)”中,a study与后文的 It reveals 形成完美指代关系,自然完成从个人体验到科学研究的转折。
2.第一段结尾“Though texting is the norm, it may not offer the same interpersonal benefits or ease loneliness as effectively as phone conversations.( 尽管发短信是常态,但它可能无法像电话交谈那样有效地提供人际交往的益处或缓解孤独感。)”指出“发短信不如打电话能有效带来人际益处、缓解孤独”,后文整段“According to Evolution and Human Behavior, hearing a familiar voice reduces stress and stimulates oxytocin (催产素), the chemical that builds warmth and trust. Also, calling reduces misunderstandings.( 根据《进化与人类行为》杂志的研究,听到熟悉的声音可以减轻压力并刺激催产素(一种能增强温暖感和信任感的化学物质)。此外,打电话还能减少误解。)”解释“打电话为何能增进联系”(声音传达情感、减少误解)。空格需要一个承上启下的主题句,针对文章核心受众(习惯发短信的人)展开。F 选项“For those who prefer texting, calling can still strengthen social bonds.( 对于那些偏爱发短信的人来说,打电话仍然可以加强社会纽带。)”精准承接上文,同时引出后文对打电话优势的具体解释,贴合文章“说服短信爱好者多打电话”的写作目的。
3.前文“Delayed text replies can create uncertainty about the sender’s feelings, while phone conversations provide immediate clarity through tone and real-time responses.( 延迟回复短信会让人对发送者的情感产生不确定感,而电话通话则通过语气和实时回应提供即时的清晰度。)”指出“电话能通过语气和实时回复提供即时清晰度”,后文“Yet, research in the Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy shows that using texts for serious discussions or apologies can lead to more conflict in future interactions.( 然而,《夫妻与关系治疗杂志》的研究表明,将严肃的讨论或道歉内容通过短信传达可能会导致未来交流中出现更多冲突。)”转折“用短信进行严肃讨论或道歉会导致更多冲突”。空格需要说明“人们为何仍选择短信”,形成逻辑转折。B 选项“Many choose texting to get time to weigh their words.( 很多人选择发短信是为了有时间斟酌措辞。)”准确点出短信的核心优势,与前文“电话即时性” 形成对比,同时为后文“短信处理严肃问题的弊端”做铺垫,逻辑链条完整。
4.前文“It remains useful across time zones, for those with speech or hearing challenges, or for quick, practical updates. It can also ease social anxiety.( 它在跨越时区、对于有语言或听力障碍的人群、或者用于快速实用的更新等方面仍然非常有用。它还能缓解社交焦虑。)”列举了短信的多个适用场景(跨时区、听说障碍、快速通知、缓解社交焦虑),后文“And then there are some who are just not used to talking on the phone, particularly young people who’ve grown up in a texting culture.( 还有一些人就是不太习惯打电话,尤其是那些成长于短信文化中的年轻人。)”递进“还有一些人只是不习惯打电话”。空格需要补充“人们偏好短信的另一个原因”。C 选项“Calling may feel too close or stressful for some people.( 对有些人来说,打电话可能感觉过于亲近或有压力。)”与前文“短信能缓解社交焦虑”呼应,同时与后文的“And then there are some...”形成并列结构,完整说明不同人群偏好短信的原因。
5.前文“So, why not consider picking up a phone and making a call a little more often?( 所以,为什么不考虑拿起电话,多打几次电话呢?)”发出呼吁“为什么不考虑多打打电话呢?”,后文“And your relationships might become even closer, too.( 你的关系也会因此变得更加亲密。)”补充“你的人际关系也可能变得更亲密”。空格需要说明打电话给个人带来的直接感受,与后文的人际关系好处形成递进。E选项“You may be surprised by how much better it feels to talk than to text.( 你可能会惊讶地发现,打电话比发短信感觉好得多。)”既呼应了开头研究提到的“低估打电话的愉悦感”,又与后文“人际关系更亲密”形成并列的双重好处,完美收束全文。
Passage 8
In an era of information explosion, many people tend to accept what they see or hear without thinking, while a few others are labeled as “contrarians (叛逆的人)” just because they question everything. This has become a common social phenomenon. 1 In fact, it is a core cognitive (认知的) ability.
Questioning everything is the essence of critical thinking. 2 For example, when we are told a certain food is “extremely harmful”, critical thinking does not immediately deny it. Instead, it encourages us to ask: What is the source of this claim? Is there scientific evidence to support it? Are there any conflicting studies? It is not about being negative, but about seeking objective evidence.
3 Some people fall into the trap of cognitive biases without realizing it. They may refuse to accept new information that goes against their existing beliefs. These biases are so common that most people are unaware of their existence, and critical thinking is the key to recognizing and overcoming them.
However, critical thinking is not an inborn talent as many people believe, but a skill that can be trained and improved through daily practice. 4 When having a discussion with others, listen to opposing views carefully instead of interrupting immediately. Every time we actively challenge our own thinking, we are polishing our critical thinking ability. With consistent practice, this ability will become an essential part of our thinking.
In a world where misinformation spreads faster than ever, critical thinking is no longer a “bonus skill” for a few people. 5 It allows us to stand firm in the tide of information, and to live and think as an independent individual.
A.We can start with small things.
B.Cognitive ability also requires logical reasoning.
C.It starts with the willingness to question assumptions.
D.It is a necessary ability for everyone to survive and thrive.
E.Critical thinking also requires us to avoid cognitive biases.
F.This is why many people stick to wrong views unconsciously.
G.Critical thinking is often undervalued in such a social context.
【答案】1.G 2.C 3.E 4.A 5.D

3.根据后文“Some people fall into the trap of cognitive biases without realizing it. They may refuse to accept new information that goes against their existing beliefs. These biases are so common that most people are unaware of their existence, and critical thinking is the key to recognizing and overcoming them.( 有些人不知不觉地陷入了认知偏差的陷阱。他们可能会拒绝接受与他们现有信念相悖的新信息。这些偏差如此常见,以至于大多数人都没有意识到它们的存在,而批判性思维是识别和克服它们的关键。)”可知,整段围绕“认知偏差的危害”以及“批判性思维是克服偏差的关键”展开。空格需要作为本段主题句,点明批判性思维与认知偏差的关系。E选项“Critical thinking also requires us to avoid cognitive biases.( 批判性思维还要求我们避免认知偏差。)”cognitive biases 是本段的核心关键词,also 承接上一段 “批判性思维始于质疑”的内容,形成递进,完美总领全段。

Passage 9
While in many parts of the world Friday evenings involve going out-one country is reserving the start of the weekend for relaxation. 1 Instead of immediately preparing for a big evening out, many Swedes practice Fredagsmys, a comforting ritual that starts the weekend by slowing down at home. It’s all about creating space for closeness and ease after a long and busy workweek.
The word “Fredagsmys” combines fredag, meaning Friday in Swedish, and mys, a term that expresses coziness and warmth. 2 Enjoy games and perhaps share a pizza, all in a relaxed atmosphere that signals the workweek is over. Almost every Swede practices this at least once a month, showing their appreciation for balance in life.
3 Sweden’s long, cold, and dark winters naturally encourage indoor gatherings, and Fredagsmys offers a way to stay connected without requiring extra effort. “During cold and dark months, Fredagsmys is a way for us Swedes to stay connected with our loved ones even when we’re tired,” said relationship therapist Sofie Roos.
This tradition prioritizes feeling good over social status and productivity, a sign of Sweden’s emphasis on balancing work and rest. Placing importance on productivity may lead to burnout. Fredagsmys offers a kind of built-in pause, a weekly boundary that protects against such exhaustion. 4
At the end of a busy week, intentionally slowing down restores balance, strengthens relationships, and supports mental health. Perhaps Fredagsmys has spread across the world because it meets a shared need to relax and recharge. 5 Simply celebrate cozy simplicity and let this be enough!
A.The term first appeared in a newspaper in 1994.
B.Climate and lifestyle play a role in its attraction.
C.In Sweden, a typical Friday night follows a restful rhythm.
D.Begin this weekend by connecting with loved ones right at home.
E.Additionally, it can also positively affect mental health by reducing stress.
F.Without noise or crowds, people tend to be more present with one another.
G.Together, these words convey a relaxed Friday night spent at home on the sofa.

Mental health education is increasingly vital in our fast-paced, complex world. 1 This education helps individuals recognize the importance of mental health in their lives. Let’s explore the reasons why mental health education is significant.
One of the primary reasons why mental health education is essential is its role in reducing stigma (污名). 2 Educating the public about mental health can clarify what mental health conditions are really about, and emphasize that these are common and treatable. It can create a more accepting and supportive environment for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Passage 12
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The Dog Listener
Every Saturday morning, Oak Park becomes a lively gathering place for dog owners. But there’s one person who draws more attention than the dogs themselves. 1 .
Marcus Chen, a retired librarian in his seventies, sits on the same bench by the fountain every weekend. He doesn’t own a dog, but he brings a small bag of homemade treats and waits quietly. 2 . When a nervous rescue dog refuses to move past the fountain, Marcus leans down and speaks softly. When a puppy jumps excitedly at every passerby, he demonstrates a calm hand signal.
3 . He says his reward is watching the “light bulb moments” — when a fearful dog finally wags its tail, or when a frustrated owner realizes their pet just needed patience. Sometimes it takes a whole morning to help just one dog.
What people don’t know is that Marcus used to be afraid of dogs as a child. A neighborhood mailman took the time to introduce him gently to his four-legged companions. 4 . “That mailman probably never knew what he did for me,” Marcus says with a warm smile. “Now I just want to pass it on.”
Last month, a group of dog owners surprised Marcus with a new bench — one with a small metal plate that reads, “Marcus’s Spot: For the Man Who Listens.” 5 . However, every Saturday at 9 a.m., you’ll still find him there, treats in his bag, waiting to meet a new four-legged friend.
A.Marcus never charges a penny.
B.He has two dogs of his own at home.
C.He lets the dogs come to him on their own terms.
D.While owners chase after their pets, he sits quietly.
E.That small act of kindness changed his life decades ago.
F.He once worked as a professional dog trainer for fifteen years.
G.Marcus admits it’s “awfully comfortable” but insisted it wasn’t necessary.

A neighborhood mailman took the time to introduce him gently to his four-legged companions.(人们不知道的是,Marcus小时候曾经害怕狗。一位邻居邮差花时间温和地把他介绍给他的四条腿的伙伴们)”介绍了他童年时受到善意的经历,E选项“That small act of kindness changed his life decades ago.(那个小小的善举几十年前改变了他的生活)”承接上文,指出那段经历对他产生的深远影响;下文“Now I just want to pass it on.(现在我只想把它传递下去)”中的“pass it on”指代E选项中的“that small act of kindness”,说明他如今帮助他人的动机,上下文逻辑连贯。
5.上文“Last month, a group of dog owners surprised Marcus with a new bench — one with a small metal plate that reads, “Marcus’s Spot: For the Man Who Listens.”(上个月,一群狗主人给Marcus一个惊喜,送了他一把新长椅——上面有一块小金属牌,写着“Marcus的位置:献给那个倾听的人”)”描述了狗主人对他的感谢方式——赠送刻字长椅,G选项“Marcus admits it’s “awfully comfortable” but insisted it wasn’t necessary.(Marcus承认它“非常舒适”,但坚持说没有必要)”承接上文,说明Marcus对这份礼物的态度——虽然欣赏但认为不必如此;下文“However, every Saturday at 9 a.m., you’ll still find him there, treats in his bag, waiting to meet a new four-legged friend.(然而,每周六早上9点,你仍然会发现他在那里,包里装着零食,等着认识新的四条腿朋友)”与G选项中的“insisted it wasn’t necessary”形成转折,尽管他觉得礼物不必如此,他依然坚持每周前往,上下文逻辑连贯。
Passage 13
Mahmadabad Ki Vav, a 500-year-old stepwell in Gujarat, had long been neglected, buried under waste and forgotten. 1
Built in the late 15th century, this stepwell was once a vital part of community life. It held nearly 200,000 liters of water, helped recharge groundwater, and supported daily life in the dry region. Its design — carved stone, deep steps, and pavilions (亭) — was both beautiful and practical. Over time, however, the stepwell was used less frequently. 2 Years of waste and mud turned it into a landfill, hidden in plain sight.
People passed by it every day, but few paused to wonder what lay beneath until a group of citizens chose to step forward. With support from Drishti Foundation, they came with tools and a clear goal to restore it to its original form and function. 3 Some formed human chains to pass buckets of waste, while others cleared blocked water channels. Slowly, the stonework and carvings began to reappear.
Among them was Jishnu Mehta, a 22-year-old student, who said the experience was inspiring. “People from all backgrounds worked side by side. 4 Our focus was on restoring them as working water bodies,” he said.
By the end of the day, volunteers had removed 713 kilograms of waste and reopened water channels. The stepwell can now once again collect water and serve the community.
5 It brought people together and reminded them of the value of shared spaces. As Dinesh put it, “Restoration, not replacement. These structures still hold the wisdom of the past — and the promise of the future.”
A.These structures still help save water.
B.The effort was about more than cleaning.
C.Strangers became teammates within minutes.
D.But the best designed systems require continued care.
E.By the 1980s, it had stopped functioning as a water source.
F.Yet on 31 January, volunteers came together to change that.
G.Seeing a community unite to restore a place felt truly meaningful.
【答案】1.F 2.E 3.C 4.G 5.B

Passage 14
Everyone loves balloons, as they are often associated with a sense of ceremony. From birthdays to memorials, these colorful items remain popular. However, as their popularity grows, so does the concern for our planet. 1 .
The biggest issue is that balloons are single-use plastics. Even those marketed as biodegradable (可降解的) often contain chemicals that prevent them from breaking down for years. Scientists have found that balloons are more likely to kill seabirds. 2 . These traps cause a slow death for animals by preventing them from eating properly.
There is also a common misunderstanding that balloons simply disappear after flying away. In reality, their journey is far from over. 3 . For instance, a balloon launched in England was once found 10,000 miles away in Australia. Since their flight paths are uncontrollable, these balloons often end up on beaches or fields, remaining there for years.
Beyond the problem of waste, the consumption of helium (氦气) in party balloons is being questioned. As a limited resource, Helium is essential for medical equipment, such as MRI scanners. 4 . Some scientists warn that using such a precious material for short-term fun is unwise and predict that future generations will find our current waste hard to believe.
As awareness grows, many people are now calling for a complete ban on balloon releases. Nearly 100 UK local authorities have already made it illegal. To protect our environment, experts suggest choosing creative and sustainable alternatives. 5 . Perhaps it is time to find new ways to celebrate that truly make a positive difference.
A.We can still mark special occasions with the same sense of joy.
B.This is because their remaining pieces are often mistaken for food.
C.We should reuse these plastic balloons for future party decorations.
D.Once released, it escapes into the atmosphere and cannot be recovered.
E.In many cases, these colorful objects break into small pieces and disappear.
F.What is perceived as a beautiful release is actually a persistent threat to nature.
G.Capable of traveling thousands of miles, they eventually land as waste in remote areas.
【答案】1.F 2.B 3.G 4.D 5.A

Passage 15
With winter drawing near, people may be turning their heat back on, increasing the risk of home fires. 1 Space heaters are responsible for almost 30% of these fires. An American Red Cross survey showed that more than half of us have used space heaters and the Red Cross urges families to take steps to heat their home safely.
Every second counts when there’s a home fire. 2 First, test your smoke alarms each month and then practice your escape plan until everyone can get out in less than two minutes.
To create your home fire escape plan, include at least two ways to exit every room in your home. Select a meeting spot at a safe distance away from your home, such as your neighbor’s home or landmark like a specific tree in your front yard. Discuss the plan with everyone in your household and practice it twice a year. 3
Place smoke alarms on each level of your home, including inside and outside bedrooms and sleeping areas. In addition to testing your smoke alarms once a month, change the batteries at least once a year if your model requires it. 4 If the alarms are 10 years or older, they need to be replaced because the sensor becomes less sensitive over time. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
5 You can find an escape plan there to practice with your family. In addition, download the free Red Cross First Aid app so you’ll know what to do if emergency help is delayed. You are also advised to use the free Emergency app for weather alerts, which will help you know about open Red Cross shelter locations and safety steps for different emergencies.
A.Stay safe by taking two simple steps.
B.Educating families about fire safety matters.
C.Visit redcross.org/ fire for related information.
D.Check the production dates of your smoke alarms.

Passage 5
Working takes up a large part of our daily lives. We all want to make the most of our work time. 1 . Here are four simple habits to help you work more effectively in the office. Working takes up a large part of our daily lives. We all want to make the most of our work time.
· 2 . Many people wait for the perfect choice before acting, which often leads to delay. It is better to make a choice fast and adjust later if needed. Remember that most decisions are not permanent; you can change your path as you learn more. Taking action is usually more important than waiting for certainty.
·Communicate clearly and early with your team. Being a good communicator helps you avoid many problems. 3 . Let your boss know immediately if timelines change; asking for a new deadline is better than missing the old one. Clear communication builds trust among co-workers and ensures everyone knows what to expect from you.
·Ask for help when the workload feels too heavy. Everyone feels stressed at times and it is normal to fall behind on certain tasks. 4 . Do not be afraid to request assistance from your team. Co-workers are often happy to help if you give them enough notice.
·Prioritize rest and maintain a healthy balance. 5 . Self-care is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Make sure to get enough sleep every night and take short breaks during the day to refresh your mind. Spend quality time with family and friends after work, and disconnect from emails and messages to recharge.
By adding these simple habits to your daily routine, you can become more productive and feel more in control of your work.
A.However, this is not always easy
B.Make decisions quickly to keep moving forward
C.Sometimes you need to hand over tasks to others
D.If your project involves others, tell them your status soon
E.Your mental and physical health directly influence your work output
F.Proper work strategies can help you improve your productivity significantly
G.Many people try to finish more work by working harder but end up being less efficient
Passage 10
Mental health education is increasingly vital in our fast-paced, complex world. 1 This education helps individuals recognize the importance of mental health in their lives. Let’s explore the reasons why mental health education is significant.
One of the primary reasons why mental health education is essential is its role in reducing stigma (污名). 2 Educating the public about mental health can clarify what mental health conditions are really about, and emphasize that these are common and treatable. It can create a more accepting and supportive environment for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
3 When individuals are educated about the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, they are more likely to recognize these signs in themselves or others early on so as to stop mental health conditions from worsening. This awareness often leads to more effective treatment and enhances overall well-being and quality of life.
Mental health education is essential for building resilience. By learning about mental well-being, individuals gain valuable tools to handle stress and bounce back from adversities. They learn how to manage emotions, deal with anxiety, and cultivate a positive mindset. 4 When individuals understand how to care for their mental health, they are better equipped to maintain balance and well-being in their lives.
Mental health education is crucial for improving overall health and well-being. It highlights the interconnection between mental and physical health. Mental health education also stresses the importance of seeking help and support when needed, promoting an integrated approach to health that includes mental, emotional, and physical aspects. 5
A.These skills are beneficial for personal development.
B.Mental health education provides rich resources for society.
C.This view is key to achieving a healthier, more balanced life.
D.It helps individuals to deal with various mental health issues.
E.It’s about developing a comprehensive awareness of mental well-being.
F.Mental health education is critical for early detection and prevention.
G.Mental health issues are often misunderstood, causing prejudice against sufferers.
Passage 11
Chasing colors
When you grow too familiar with the city you live in, it’s easy to overlook the scenery during your daily walks. But what if your next footstep came with a small twist — following a specific color as your guide?
This idea, known as a “color walk”, has recently gained popularity on social media both in China and abroad. 1
As the trend spreads, many netizens have begun sharing photos online, while some cities have released color-walk guides for residents.
2 In Shenzhen, Guangdong province, for example, those searching for pink might find bougainvillea in Shenzhen International Garden and Flower Expo Park, or trumpet-shaped flowers along parks and roads. 3
But beyond the colors themselves, this simple activity may also lead to unexpected discoveries. 4 “After a whole day of color walking, the world felt brand new,” one netizen wrote on Sina Weibo. “Places I used to overlook suddenly seemed worth noticing — a yellow bicycle under a tree, or a yellow taxi parked behind a house.”
5 Sometimes, all it takes is a single color to turn an ordinary walk into a small act of rediscovery.
A.Participants choose a single color and challenge themselves to spot objects, buildings, and scenery in that hue along the way.
B.In Yichang, Hubei province, nearly 40,000 square meters of rapeseed blossoms form a bright yellow sea beneath the blue sky.
C.Many find that this focused observation brings back a sense of freshness to familiar routes.
D.This practice turns an ordinary walk into a more engaging and mindful experience.
E.It encourages people to see their surroundings from a different angle.
F.City governments are also using this trend to promote local tourism.
G.The idea was first introduced by an artist in the United States.
E.Set up free smoke alarms in high-risk areas across the community.
F.Heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths.
G.Teach children what a smoke alarm sounds like before practicing the plan.
