Discover your ultimate Colorado camping adventure among these four incredible spots! Maroon Bells Consisting of a pair of 14,000-foot snow-capped mountains, the Maroon Bells offers breathtaking views all year long. There are three campsites in the mountain’s shadow, which are situated close to the town of Aspen. This is highly convenient if you need to collect food or drinks or just want to walk around town for a bit. Piñon Flats Campground For a different camping experience, travel to the Great Sand Dunes (沙丘) National Park. This destination features towering dunes rather than snow-capped peaks. While skiing and snowboarding are popular winter sports in Colorado, sandboarding here offers a unique adventure. For those with limited mobility, there are five different campsites that are wheelchair accessible. Angel of Shavano Campgrounds Located inside the San Isabel National Forest, this campground is rarely ever crowded. This is partly due to its remote nature, which requires a three-hour drive from Denver to get to the location. Therefore, it’s quite easy to reserve a spot, even during the busier summer months. The thickly wooded forest is also an ideal place for those looking to escape the busy modern life. Moraine Park Campground The site offers excellent views of the breathtaking landscapes. And sharp-eyed campers can often spot passing wildlife with black bears, mountain lions, and elk all living within the park. Meanwhile, it is another option for those with limited mobility. There are four wheelchair accessible campsites you can reserve in advance. 21. Which is the easiest campground to book in busy seasons? A. Maroon Bells. B. Piñon Flats. C. Angel of Shavano. D. Moraine Park. 22. What special experience does Piñon Flats offer to visitors? A. Observing passing wildlife. B. Sandboarding down towering dunes. C. Using wheelchair-friendly facilities. D. Admiring snow-capped mountains. 23. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To recommend outdoor activities. B. To introduce famous camping sites. C. To compare different campgrounds. D. To attract tourists to the camping sites. B “Musab. I’m sending New Year greetings from the peak of the world!” This heartfelt message from a Tibetan friend reminded me of my unforgettable cultural journey to Xizang in 2024. My fascination began at Minzu University, where vibrant Tibetan dances every Friday night showcased the region’s cultural beauty. Students in traditional attire (服饰) led the dance, their energy uniting participants from diverse backgrounds. These moments sparked my dream to dance atop the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. This dream came true through a university-organized trip. Arriving in Lhasa, I initially struggled with the 3,000-meter altitude but was deeply moved by the locals’ warmth, which outweighed any physical discomfort. Their warmth made meaningful connections between us. The journey showed Tibet’s rich culture through iconic sites like Potala Palace and bustling Barkhor Street. Tasting butter tea for the first time was amazing, offering new insight into Tibetan traditions. In Nudu Village, the head shared his vision for improving residents’ livelihoods, highlighting regional progress. On my final night, I joined a Tibetan dance circle under the stars, drinking butter tea with new friends. This full-circle moment mirrored the dances back at university, fulfilling my dream while proving that human connections — not just landscapes — make travels truly special. 24. What initially inspired the author’s interest in Tibetan culture? A. A New Year message. B. Stories about butter tea. C. University dance gatherings. D. Pictures of Potala Palace. 25. How did the author describe the Tibetan people’s warmth? A. By focusing on medical assistance. B. By showing their dance instructions. C. By mentioning university friendships. D. By comparing it with altitude challenges. 26. Which experience gave the author new understanding of Tibetan culture? A. Tasting butter tea. B. Climbing mountains. C. Visiting Nudu Village. D. Meeting the trip organizers. 27. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Overcoming Altitude Sickness: My Memorable Trip to Lhasa B. Butter Tea and Starry Nights: The Culinary Wonders of Tibet C. Experiencing Tibetan Traditions: Exploring Potala Palace and Barkhor Street D. A Cultural Journey to Tibet: From University Dances to Cultural Connections C Samvith Mahadevan, 14, suffers from severe food allergies. “I have eagerly eaten foods, only to experience an itchy mouth, a sore throat, and swollen eyes that are all obvious signs of an allergic reaction,” he says. He was upset that many available allergen sensors (过敏源检测器) were so expensive and required contact with food, making them not very useful in daily life. Inspired by how accurately ants seem to find food, Mahadevan decided to train a volatile organic compound (VOC) sensor. He used machine learning to identify allergens by “smelling” food particles (分子) floating in the air. The boy started with a low-cost VOC sensor, and trained the sensor with a machine learning program. He exposed the sensor to samples of peanuts, eggs, almonds, and walnuts. When he first started training his system, the accuracy was very low and he had to try a lot of different approaches. There were a lot of failures along the way. He constantly changed the allergen samples he was using. However, that didn’t work. The accuracy only improved significantly after he changed some parts of his machine learning program. After training his program over 2,048 rounds of testing, Mahadevan tested his sensor on real-world products with allergens, such as almond cookies, peanut butter caramel balls, curries, and muffins. His “nose” achieved an accuracy rate of 94 to 97 percent in identifying allergens. “This was quite motivating because it showed me that this idea has a big future. With further development, we could save a lot of lives,” he recalls. Mahadevan’s research earned him the Lemelson Foundation Award for Invention in 2024. The boy says, “Once you think about a problem you want to solve, you can keep it in the back of your mind. You have to be observant all the time and have a curious mind. Sometimes, inexperience develops out-of-the-box thinking.” 28. Why did Mahadevan develop his own allergen sensor? A. He wanted to cure his food allergy completely. B. Existing sensors were impractical in daily life. C. He couldn’t afford the expensive sensors on the market. D. Ant behavior studies proved existing sensors ineffective. 29. What does the invention imply for allergy sufferers? A. It works only in laboratory environment. B. It replaces the need for medical treatment. C. It helps avoid allergens without touching food. D. It identifies all the allergies in the real world. 30. What contributed to the obvious increase of the sensor’s accuracy? A. Increasing testing rounds to 2,048. B. Using more diverse allergen samples. C. Switching to a higher-quality VOC sensor. D. Improving the machine learning program. 31. Which of the following words can best describe Mahadevan? A. Observant and proud. B. Persistent and creative. C. Generous and optimistic. D. Cautious and modest. D Recently, an emerging trend in the medical field has captured attention: doctors are prescribing (开处方) time in nature to their patients to address a wide variety of physical and mental health concerns. These “nature prescriptions” aren’t just feel-good recommendations; they’re evidence-based by science. Scott Kaiser, a famous geriatrician (老年病学家), explains why nature has a profound impact on healthy aging and overall well-being, “There are several factors in healthy aging — diet, exercise, mindfulness and a sense of purpose — and being outdoors can provide access to all of these. I can’t overstate how powerful nature can be as a healer.” In fact, ancient practices like Japanese shinrin-yoku and traditional Chinese medicine have long highlighted the benefits of connecting with nature. A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis looked at 92 studies of nature prescription programs. It found that nature prescriptions can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cardiovascular (心血管) disease, help weight loss, lessen chronic pain and improve mobility. They also help decrease stress, depression and anxiety while enhancing cognitive function. Nature prescriptions aren’t necessarily about getting exercise or pumping your heart, but rather more about mindfulness and soaking in the outdoors. Sensory walks offer an easy way to begin, since they only require you to walk mindfully while focusing on five senses. To avoid distractions, leave electronic devices at home. To take it to the next level, head to a nature preserve, mountain or lake and engage in “forest bathing”. And if active pursuits are overwhelming, even just sitting outdoors on a park bench will bring benefits. “Nature isn’t just a luxury; it’s a necessity for good health.” Dr. Kaiser says, “When you feel so exhausted that you can’t fit one more thing in — that’s exactly when you need to write your own nature prescription. You will immediately experience greater happiness and health, and yes, enhanced productivity in your life. It is well worth the effort.” 32. What can we infer from the first two paragraphs? A. Doctors prefer nature prescriptions to medication. B. Healthy aging merely depends on outdoor access. C. Kaiser developed the nature prescription method. D. Nature prescriptions are supported by scientific evidence. 33. What can we learn from the study in 2023? A. Its researchers conducted many experiments. B. It mentioned ancient practices of different countries. C. Its conclusions agree with ancient practices’ beliefs. D. Nature prescriptions offer little help to physical problems. 34. What does the underlined word “overwhelming” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Very exhausting. B. Slightly challenging. C. Deeply inspiring. D. Completely absorbing. 35. Which of the following situation is a nature prescription? A. Watching nature documentaries. B. Practicing yoga in a shopping mall. C. Cloud-watching while lying on grass. D. Jogging in a park while listening to podcasts. A new study shows that vitamin D might help people age more slowly. Her stomach fluttered with butterflies. Today she was starting school in a new town. Hopefully, she would make some new friends, too. She turned around and waved to her parents, and they gave her a thumbs up, if they only knew how nervous she was. At her old school, Gina had many friends whom she had known since kindergarten. When Gina got braces (牙箍), it was no big deal. Her friends never made fun of her. But that was the past. The future was here — inside the new school. The students in Gina’s class were friendly, but Gina didn’t smile much. She didn’t want anyone to see her braces. Finally, it was time for gym class. Luckily for Gina, they were playing baseball — her favorite sport. “Gina,” the coach announced, “play shortstop today, okay?” “Sure thing!” Gina said as she put on a glove and jogged over to her place between second and third base. She scanned the field and glanced over to second base, where a tall boy stood. Suddenly, the batter slugged the ball in her direction. The ball bounced several times before Gina caught it. As the runner headed toward second base, Gina threw the ball to the tall boy. The runner was out! “Good throw!” the tall boy said with a smile. His smile was bright, silvery, and shiny, just like hers. She smiled back, allowing her braces to show. They both laughed, and Gina knew her future was going to be just fine. 根据文本内容从方框中选择恰当的词并用其正确形式填入图示中,每词限用一次,有两词为多余选项 brace hope hide assign over confident nervous comfort replace friend run back Gina entered a new school, anxiously _________ to make friends. D. 24. 以及最后一段“This full-circle moment mirrored the dances back at university, fulfilling my dream while proving that human connections — not just landscapes — make travels truly special. C Samvith Mahadevan, 14, suffers from severe food allergies. B 29. C 30. D 31. D 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第三段第一句“In fact, ancient practices like Japanese shinrin-yoku and traditional Chinese medicine have long highlighted the benefits of connecting with nature.(日本森林浴、中医等古老养生方式一直强调亲近自然的益处)”以及“It found that nature prescriptions can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cardiovascular (心血管) disease, help weight loss, lessen chronic pain and improve mobility. They also help decrease stress, depression and anxiety while enhancing cognitive function.(它发现自然处方能够降低血压、减少心血管疾病风险、助力减重、缓解慢性疼痛并提升行动能力。 根据第四段“And if active pursuits are overwhelming, even just sitting outdoors on a park bench will bring benefits.(如果积极的户外活动overwhelming,即便只是坐在户外的公园长椅上也能带来益处)”可知,划线词形容主动户外活动的状态,结合后文简单静坐也有效可推知, overwhelming指“耗费精力、令人疲惫的”。 根据第四段“Nature prescriptions aren’t necessarily about getting exercise or pumping your heart, but rather more about mindfulness and soaking in the outdoors... A new study shows that vitamin D might help people age more slowly.
