One day, I came home from school with tears in my eyes. My grandmother noticed and asked me what was wrong. I told her that a girl at school kept saying terrible things to me and made me feel sad.
My grandmother looked at me with her loving eyes and said, “Let me tell you a secret. You have two magic pockets. One pocket has no hole, and the other has a hole in it. When someone says something nice or kind, put their words into the pocket with no hole. Keep it safe. At night, you can take it out and feel happy again.” “But what about the other pocket, Grandma?” I asked.
She smiled and replied, “If someone says something bad or unkind, put it into the pocket with the hole. Let it fall out and disappear. Don’t keep it with you.”
I was surprised by this idea of two magic pockets, and I decided to try it.
From then on, I became a different person. Before, I used to remember all the bad words and feel upset for a long time. But after learning about the two pockets, I knew how to deal with unhappy things. Now, my friends often say that I have become a much happier boy.

From August 14th, 2025, Beijing held the world’s first Humanoid Robot Games (首届人形机器人运动会) at the National Speed Skating Oval, also called the “Ice Ribbon”. Over 500 robots from 16 countries formed 280 teams to take part in sports, dances, and practical tasks during the three-day event.
The opening ceremony (开幕式) was amazing. The audience saw robots dance hip-hop, do martial arts, and even play instruments like the keyboard. There was also a futuristic fashion show where robots and humans modeled clothes together — though one robot fell and needed help getting up!
The Games had three main types of competitions:
Athletics (体育竞技): This included running races, high jump, and soccer. There was even a 5-on-5 soccer game where the robots made their own decisions during the match.
Performances (文艺表演): Robots showed their artistic skills in group dances and martial arts. In one performance,60 small robots dressed in Chinese opera costumes danced together.
Real-world Challenges (真实场景挑战): These tasks tested practical skills. For example, robots had to sort medicines in a hospital or clean a hotel room — all within 20 minutes.
Teams from top Chinese universities like Tsinghua and Peking University, as well as companies, joined the event. A Chinese official said that every robot there was “making history.”
Although robots sometimes made mistakes or fell down, the main aim of the Games was to improve robot technology through practice. The event not only showed China’s progress in AI and robotics but also gave us a look into a future where humans and robots work and live together.
28. How long did the Humanoid Robot Games last?
A. One day. B. Two days. C. Three days.
29. Which of the following is NOT included (包括) in the opening ceremony?
A. Robots dancing hip-hop.

C. Robots sorting hospital medicines.
30. What can we learn about the soccer game in the Athletics competition?
A. Robots made decisions by themselves.
B. Humans and robots played together.
C. It was the most popular game among audiences.
31. What is the main aim of holding the Humanoid Robot Games?
A. To entertain the audience with robot shows.
B. To improve robotics technology through practice.
C. To show China’s leading position in AI technologies.

I’ll never forget the meaningful lesson Mr. Li gave us. Last month, he gave a speech in our school meeting room. He started by holding up a 100-yuan bill and asked, “Who wants this 100-yuan note?” Most of us raised our hands right away. Then he said, “I’ll give this bill to one of you, but first let me do this.” He crumpled (弄皱) the bill into a ball and asked again, “Who still wants it?” We put up our hands once more.
But Mr. Li said, “Wait a minute.” He dropped the bill on the floor and stepped on it. After picking up the dirty, wrinkled bill, he asked, “Who wants it now?” Many hands were still raised. “My dear classmates,” he said seriously, “you’ve learned a precious lesson today. No matter what I did to the bill, you still wanted it because its value never changed—it’s still worth 100 yuan!”
“We often miss chances in life and feel like we’re worthless,” he continued. “but remember: no matter what happens to you, you’ll never lose your value. You’re always important to the people who love you. Your value doesn’t come from what you do or who you know, but from who you truly are. Don’t ever forget that. ________.”
