I still remember the day I walked into the school library for my first job. My manager said, “This job 1 not just checking books in and out, but also building a warm space for students.”
For 15 years, I’ve worked here as a librarian. Every morning, I arrange the books on the shelves and get the reading corners ready. When students rush in after class, their eyes light up 2 they see their favorite storybooks. I love recommending books to them—a shy girl once told me the book I suggested helped her make new friends, and that made all the hard work 3 .
I’ve faced small challenges too: 4 rainy days with broken windows, or students accidentally breaking book pages. But I’ve also collected so many sweet memories. A group of sixth-graders once held a surprise “Thank You” party for me, and a little boy drew a picture of me reading to him. These moments are the most 5 part of my job. 6 some people think librarians just sit and read all day, I know our work is full of meaning. We help kids fall in love with stories, guide them to find useful information, and make the library a safe place for everyone.
Today, I’m retiring. I’m passing my librarian badge to you, the new member of our team. The library will be a better place 7 your efforts. Remember, the best part of this job isn’t the quiet routine— 8 the connections you build with the kids and the love of reading you pass on. I’ll miss the sound of pages turning and the laughter of children in the library. But I’m happy 9 I’ve spent 15 years making this space a home for so many. Goodbye to my days 10 a school librarian, and hello to my next chapter!

In one station a kind lady said my problem was that I hadn’t got enough experience.
“Get some work in a small station and work your way up.” she said.
I went back home. I couldn’t get a job there either. Then my dad said a businessman had opened a store and needed someone to help him. But again, I didn’t get the job.
I felt really down. “Everything happens for the best. Your luck will change,” Mom said to me. I tried another radio station in Iowa (爱荷华州). But the owner told me he had already had someone. Do you know how to deal with your feelings when you are upset? Everyone may feel sad, worried or angry sometimes. These feelings are normal, but if you keep bad feelings inside for too long, they will be bad for your health and study. Here are some useful ways to cheer yourself up when you are in a bad mood.
First, talk to someone you trust. Many teenagers choose to keep their problems to themselves. They are afraid that others will laugh at them or think they are strange. In fact, talking is the best way to release stress. You can talk to your parents, teachers or close friends. When you share your trouble with them, they may give you some useful advice. Just speaking out your feelings will also make you feel relaxed.
Second, do some sports or outdoor activities. Doing exercise can make your body produce special things that make you happy. You can go running, play basketball or swim in your free time. If you don’t like sports, you can take a walk in the park, enjoy the fresh air and beautiful flowers. Being close to nature can calm your mind and drive away bad moods.
Third, do something you enjoy. Everyone has hobbies. You can read interesting storybooks, listen to soft music or draw pictures. Hobbies can take your attention away from your troubles. When you put your heart into your favorite things, you will forget unhappiness little by little. You can also watch funny cartoons or comedies. Laughter is the best medicine for a bad mood.
Fourth, learn to think in a different way. Sometimes bad feelings come from our wrong ideas. If you fail an exam, don’t always think you are stupid. Instead, find out the reasons and try to do better next time. Learn to accept small mistakes and encourage yourself all the time.
Life is full of ups and downs. Bad feelings are just small parts of life. Use these ways properly, and you will become a happy and confident person.

四、任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成句子。
Problems between parents and teenagers are common in many families. Teenagers often feel they don’t get enough understanding from their parents. Some parents care too much about their school grades and push them very hard in studies. Some are busy with work all day and seldom spend time talking or staying with their children. Many users from the US joined Xiaohongshu in January, and Chinese users jokingly asked them to pay a “cat tax (猫税)” by sharing a photo of their cats. In return, Chinese users would send the pictures of their own cats.
After looking at hundreds of cat photos, some people noticed something interesting: The cats posted by Chinese users were rounder than those shared by American users. But why?
According to the website, one key reason is the living environment. In China, many families live in high-rise apartments. To keep their cats safe, owners usually keep them indoors. However, many American homes have larger living spaces and backyards, so cats can climb and play here and there.
Cultural differences may also play a role. In Chinese culture, roundness means unity (团结) and perfection, while Americans value an adventurous (勇于冒险的) spirit. So they encourage their pets to run around and stay active.
Family influence is another reason. “My parents always show their love by making delicious food for me, so I treat my cat the same way, ” explained a Chinese user from Heilongjiang.
The difference in cat body shapes between China and the US shows cultural differences between the two countries. Whether they are a fit American cat or a round Chinese cat, as long as they are healthy, that’s what matters most.

My manager said, “This job 1 not just checking books in and out, but also building a warm space for students.” For 15 years, I’ve worked here as a librarian. One day your luck will change.” I found mom was right after I finished my college education (教育). I had decided to try for a job in a radio station. I wanted to be a presenter for a sports program one day. I went to Chicago and knocked at the door of every station. But I was turned down every time. I felt upset. If you fail an exam, don’t always think you are stupid. Instead, find out the reasons and try to do better next time. Learn to accept small mistakes and encourage yourself all the time. At an exhibition in a park in Ezhou, Hubei, a mecha robot (机甲机器人) caught many visitors’ eyes. The robot was so special—it had a look that no other exhibits had. Some visitors thought it used 3D printing technology. But actually, every piece of the robot was made out of cardboard. Pi Linjun, a local man, made the robot. He likes building mecha robots. His mecha robots have more flexible joints (灵活的关节) and the joints allow them to stand in different ways. However, it is not easy to make such a mecha robot. It usually needs more than 300 pieces of paper and takes at least twenty hours of work. Some even take a whole week. Pi’s creations are now on show in the park. For him, this is more than an exhibition. It is a big change from a personal hobby to a growing business. Pi lives with disabilities (残疾) and has difficulty communicating with others.
