“I feel a bit ‘emo’.” Do you often hear people say this these days? The word “emo” is short for “emotional”. It means someone has big feelings. Usually, they are bad ones, such as anger, worry or sadness.
Everyone has bad feelings from time to time. You may feel upset when you get a low score in an exam. You may feel lonely after fighting with your friends. The emotions build up. At some point, they explode (爆炸). Boom! They make you shout and cry. You may not want to eat, speak, learn or play. What should you do?
Don’t forget that you are the master (主人) of your emotions. Do you know the Dementors (摄魂怪) in Harry Potter? They make people feel sad. But there is one way to beat them: eating some chocolate and trying to think of the happiest moment of your life. Let the good feelings fight the bad ones. In real life, you should always look on the bright side of things. For example, getting a bad grade in an exam is not always bad. Find out where the problem is, and next time you can do better. You will feel hopeful this way.
When those bad feelings come, you can also try some simple actions to drive them away. For example, breathe deeply just like smelling a flower, and then blowing up a balloon. Keep doing it and you can calm down. Doing some exercise, such as jumping and running, can help you relax. Or hug your parents, pets or your dolls. They can make you feel safe and relaxed.
19.Which of the following feelings is thought to be “emo”?
A.Calmness. B.Sadness. C.Hope. D.Happiness.
20.Which of the following is similar to the way mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A.After losing a game, the player refuses to play again.
B.When someone is sad, he just stays in bed and says nothing.
C.When someone loses a favourite toy, he cries and refuses to play with other toys.
D.After getting a bad grade, the student doesn’t give up and works harder to do better next time.
21.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.It shows the meaning of “emo”. B.It tells us how to deal with bad feelings.
C.It shows why people have bad feelings. D.It tells stories about fighting against bad feelings.
22.What is the text probably written for?
A.Students. B.Parents. C.Teachers. D.Doctors.

You’ve probably seen pretty plates made of special clay (黏土), but did you know they can have little cut-out designs (设计) and clay flowers on them? This is called Tonghua porcelain (瓷器), and it comes from a place called Fengxi town in Chaozhou city, Guangdong Province. It’s so special that it became a national treasure in 2008.
Ye Hao, born in 1995, comes from a family that makes Tonghua porcelain. He’s been learning how to make it for 10 years and is creatively bringing new life to it.
Seeing the number of people with Tonghua skills drop quickly in Chaozhou, he felt sad and he wanted to learn and preserve the art, Ye began learning it in high school, believing that every Tonghua porcelain piece has a life of its own.
“My grandpa always encouraged me to practice more,” Ye said. He learned that the clay needs the right amount of water, or it will crack (裂开). After learning all the skills, he found that designing is the hardest part. Because Tonghua porcelain has lots of little cut-out shapes, and you have to think about how big they are and how they’re put together. If a cut-out is too large, it is likely to crack during firing.
Ye wants to make the art more creative, so he’s combining (结合) Tonghua porcelain with daily things and his hobbies. For example, he made a special pin (胸针) with a clay rose that was picked by the Culture Department in Guangdong as a special gift. He also likes cartoons, so he designed six cups with characters from the cartoon “The Outcast” on top, mixing traditional art with pop culture.
Ye says he will keep finding ways to make the art part of everyday life and show it to more people with new designs.
27.What does the underlined word “preserve” in para.3 mean?
A.Produce. B.Protect. C.Prepare. D.Process.
28.What is a key challenge in designing Tonghua porcelain?
A.Learning the traditional skills. B.Finding culture from daily life.
C.Combining hobbies with porcelain. D.Balancing the size and structure of cut-outs.
29.What does para.5 mainly talk about?
A.Ye’s views on the future of Tonghua porcelain.
B.Ye’s new ways of designing Tonghua porcelain.
C.Ye’s deep interest in cartoon and pop culture.
D.Ye’s most famous porcelain products.
30.What is the best title for this passage?
A.Knowing the Skills of Making Tonghua B.Making a Special Art National Treasure
C.Bringing a New Life to Tonghua Porcelain D.Designing a New Kind of Porcelain
【答案】27.B 28.D 29.B 30.C

【详解】27.根据文章第三段“Seeing the number of people with Tonghua skills drop quickly...he wanted to learn and preserve the art”(看到拥有通花瓷技艺的人数迅速下降……他想学习并______这门艺术),可知面对技艺流失,他想做的是“保护”或“保存”。选项B“Protect”意为保护,符合语境。
28.根据文章第四段“After learning all the skills, he found that designing is the hardest part. Because Tonghua porcelain has lots of little cut-out shapes, and you have to think about how big they are and how they’re put together.”可知,设计最难的部分在于需要考虑镂空形状的大小以及它们如何组合,否则容易裂开。选项D“平衡镂空的大小和结构”与此相符。
29.根据文章第五段首句“Ye wants to make the art more creative, so he’s combining Tonghua porcelain with daily things and his hobbies.”是该段主题句,随后列举了胸针和卡通杯子等例子。这说明本段主要讲述叶浩通过结合日常事物和爱好来创新设计通花瓷的新方法。选项B概括最准确。

A.Students. B.Parents. C.Teachers. D.Doctors.

A huge Tian’anmen wall painting has recently become popular in Wuying Village, Yanji Town, Henan Province. The artist, Wu Chengyan, painted this large wall painting to help elderly villagers realize their dream of “seeing Tian’anmen”. Many old people gathered (聚集) in front of the painting, and the touching story won widespread praise online.
Wu, 39, has loved painting since childhood. Last year he started painting wall paintings in rural areas. This time, he was inspired (激励) by an elderly villager who said visiting Tian’anmen in Beijing was his lifelong wish. Knowing that many older villagers had never traveled far, Wu decided to bring Tian’anmen to them. The painting is 18 meters long and 8 meters high. He started preparing on December 18th and finished on the 22nd, working about eight hours each day.
While painting, Wu was often asked by eager (渴望的) elders when it would be finished. After finishing it, he invited over a dozen elderly villagers to take pictures together. Some who had difficulty walking were brought in wheelchairs. Many people were moved to tears, saying, “This looks just like Beijing!” and “My wish for this year has come true.”
So far, Wu has created 40 to 50 wall paintings in his village, often featuring subjects the elderly people enjoy, such as famous landmarks and people. “I want to help them see more of the world’s beauty,” Wu said. Through his brushes, he is bringing dreams and joy to the seniors in his hometown.
