A. information B. came up with C. simple D. similar E. imagined
Philo Taylor Farnsworth was an American inventor who developed the first all-electronic television system. He wasn’t the first person to dream up television, but he was the first to find a way to make it work without a mechanical aspect
While scientists were working on a special machine to send pictures through the air, fourteen-year-old Farnsworth ____6____ a way of doing it that relied on electronic technology alone. He ____7____ the idea while he was at his family’s farm. As he was plowing (犁地) a potato field in straight, parallel (平行的) lines, he thought up a system that would break an image into a ____8____ pattern of parallel lines. Then it would put those lines back together and reproduce an electronic picture at the other end.
He had an idea for a receiver that would do the work. He drew a plan for it and gave the drawing to his high school teacher. It seemed very simple, but still showed all the ____9____ that was needed to build a television.
Farnsworth had to solve several problems before he could produce a working television system. His biggest problem was that he was too young. He knew no one would listen to a child. He also had no money to develop his ideas.
A. prove B. inventors C. connected with D. explained E. promise
At the age of 21, Farnsworth made his first successful electronic television transmission (播送). Within a few months, he had found several people who wanted to put money into his invention. He ____10____ that the television would work with broadcast (广播) technology. This was what made it available as a product.
Very soon, however, several other ____11____ said that they, too, had invented a television device. One of them, Vladimir Zworykin, worked for the Radio Corporation of America (RCA). The company began legal (法律的) action against Farnsworth.
Although Farnsworth said he had developed the idea much earlier, he couldn’t ____12____ it. But his high school teacher could. At last, Farnsworth won the legal action and the right to own the invention of television. However, he did not have the money or support to build a television industry. Zworykin and the head of RCA became the names ____13____ the new industry.
8. D 9. A
10. D 11. B
12. A 13. C
A是名词“信息”,C、D为形容词,E“想象”不能搭配a way表达“想出办法”,均不符合。
空格后置介词the new industry,需要可搭配的短语;connected with意为“与……相关联、绑定”,过去分词短语作后置定语修饰names。其余选项均无法构成“和行业相关”的搭配,且词性不匹配定语用法。
Section C(15 分)
Choose the best answer to complete the passage.
Art Town
Rick was a nice, cheerful and optimistic (乐观的) boy. No one could remember ever having seen him become angry. He seemed to be unable to lose his temper with anyone.
Everyone was ____14____, even Rick’s teacher, Mr. Nelson. Some students even guessed that Rick must have some special secret. They kept ____15____ Rick about his secret.
In the end, Rick ____16____ Mr. Nelson to tea at his house. When they had finished, Rick showed his teacher around the house. When Rick opened his bedroom door, Mr. Nelson was amazed by ____17____ he saw.
On one of the walls was a unique collage (拼贴画) of thousands of colors and shapes. It was ____18____ decoration Mr. Nelson had ever seen.
“Some people at school think I never think badly of anyone,” Rick started to explain, “and that ____19____ bothers me at all. But that’s not true. I’m just like anyone else. I used to get angrier than all the other kids. But years ago, ____20____ the help of my parents, I started a small collage. I could use ____21____ kind of material and color for it. With every little piece I stuck on, I added one bad thought or act.”
The teacher looked ____22____ at the wall. In each one of the small pieces, he could read, in tiny letters, “fool,” “idiot,” “pain” and a thousand other negative things.
“This is ____23____ I started turning all my bad times into an opportunity to add to my collage,” Rick continued. “Now I like the collage ____24____ much that each time someone makes me angry, I couldn’t be happier. They’ve given me a new piece for my work of art.”
That day they discussed many things, but what the teacher never forgot was how ____25____ ordinary boy had shown him that the secret to having a cheerful and optimistic character was to turn the bad times into a ____26____ to smile.
Without telling anyone, on that very day, Mr. Nelson began his own collage. He ____27____ it so often to his students that, years later, their neighborhood became ____28____ “Art Town.” Each house contained its own work of art—made by those cheerful and optimistic children and their teachers.
14. A. angry B. curious C. worried
15. A. ask B. to ask C. asking
16. A. invites B. invited C. will invite
17. A. what B. that C. which
18. A. lovely B. lovelier C. the loveliest
19. A. something B. nothing C. everything
20. A. of B. under C. with
21. A. each B. any C. all
22. A. close B. closely C. closed
23. A. how B. what C. why
24. A. very B. such C. so
25. A. a B. an C. the
26. A. chance B. change C. challenge
27. A. recommended B. remembered C. reminded

14. B 15. C 16. B 17. A 18. C 19. B 20. C 21. B 22. B 23. A 24. C 25. B 26. A 27. A 28. B
But that’s not true形成转折,说明他人的看法完全不会对Rick造成影响,nothing“没有任何事”,nothing at all为固定表达,贴合转折逻辑。
with“和……一起”,with the help of sb. of“属于”,under“在……
固定结构so...that...
known for“因……而出名”,known about“了解……”不存在该常用固定搭配。
Section D
Complete the dialogue(补全对话)(12 分)
Tom is talking with his dad after dinner.
T — Tom, D — Dad
T: Dad, can I talk to you about something?
D: ___________29___________. (补全回答) What’s on your mind?
T: I get pocket money every week, but I never know what I can do with it. My friends buy expensive sneakers and hoodies. I want to buy them too, but then I have no money left.
D: That’s a common problem. Do you really need those things, or do you just want them because your friends have them?
T: I think…___________30___________ (根据问句回答). I don’t want to look different.
D: When I was your age, I felt the same way. But here’s what I learned: Money is a tool. If you spend it all on clothes, you won’t have any for things you really need later, like a phone repair or a gift for someone.
T: ___________31___________?
D: Not all. Try this: save 50% for future needs ___________32___________. (完成目的状语从句) Spend 30% on things you enjoy, and give 20% to help others or buy small gifts. That way, you enjoy today and prepare for tomorrow.
T: That sounds smart. But what about fashion? My friends laugh at my shoes because they are not a famous brand.
D: Fashion is about showing ___________33___________ (填入你对时尚的理解), not copying others. You can look great with simple clothes if you wear them with confidence.
T: But I feel left out when they talk about brands.
D: Real friends don’t laugh at you for your shoes. They laugh with you because you are funny or kind.
T: I never thought about it that way. My best friend, Jack, never makes fun of me. He even said my old sneakers were cool because I painted them myself.
D: That’s a true friend. Friendship is about trust and respect, not about what you wear or how much money you have. Keep friends like Jack. They will stay with you for life.
T: So I should save money, dress in my own style, and keep friends who like me for who I am.
D: Exactly. And remember, you can always ask me for advice. I’m here to help, not to judge.
T: Thanks, Dad. I feel better now. I think that I will save half of my pocket money this week and maybe buy a new T-shirt that I really like, not just because it’s popular.
D: ___________34___________! (写出一句感叹句) I’m proud of you for thinking about this carefully.
Sure/Of course
30.
I just want them because my friends have them
31.
Do I need to save all of it
32.
so that you can use it in the future
33.
yourself/who you are
34.
What a great idea
I just want them because my friends have them。
Do I need to save all of it。
题干要求完成目的状语从句,上文Dad建议存50%,下文提到这样既能享受今天也能为明天做准备,因此Tom应说明存钱的目的,故用so that you can use it in the future。

Creative Inventions for a Better World
Every year, our magazine shares a list of the most useful and creative new inventions. Some help solve serious problems around the world, while others simply make everyday life more enjoyable. Below are some highlights from this year’s list. Which one do you like the most?
People who love outdoor activities care a lot about nature, but many camping products are not good for the environment. To fix this, Nemo Equipment developed its Endless Promise line of camping gear. The backpacks and sleeping bags are made from polyester (聚酯纤维), a material that can be recycled. The company also promises to repair, recycle, or resell the equipment. (NEMO products only). They will take it back when customers are ready for something new.
In some areas, people cannot easily get safe drinking water. That’s why three groups—a creative agency, a health organization, and a water company—worked together to create Filter Caps. These small, easy-to-carry filters fit onto the top of water bottles. Users can fill their bottles from wells, ponds, or rivers, and the special filter inside the cap removes harmful substances (物质), making the water safe to drink. One filter can clean up to five liters of water each day.
Regular treadmills (跑步机) are made for people to walk or run in place, but those who use wheelchairs also need ways to stay active. The Wheely-X is a treadmill specially designed for wheelchair users. Choose the best answer.
What’s a typhoon?
A typhoon is like a super-powerful and really naughty storm. It zooms in with super-strong winds, pours down heavy rain, and sometimes even whips up huge waves. It can mess up our homes, schools, and the whole city! But don’t worry. Here are some useful tips to help you stay safe when a typhoon is coming.
What to do
Before the typhoon
• Get supplies ready
Stock up on food like canned food, biscuits, and bottled water. These will be our little treasures in case the typhoon decides to keep us away from the supermarkets for a few days.
Grab some flashlights, candles, and batteries, too. You know, the typhoon might play a trick and cut off the power.
• Make your home safe
Check your windows carefully. If you can, use some super-strong tape to make the glass tougher.
Tie down things like garden chairs and garbage cans in your yard. Otherwise, the strong winds will pick them up and throw them around like toys, and that could be dangerous!
• Stay in the know
Keep an eye on the weather forecast. You can watch the local news on TV or check the weather app on your phone.
During the typhoon
• Stay inside!
Stay inside your house or a strong building. Don’t go outside unless it’s a real emergency.
Stay away from the windows. Those strong winds can break the glass into a million pieces and hurt you.
• Flood? Be careful!
If your area gets flooded, don’t walk or drive through the water. You can’t tell how deep it is or if there are hidden dangers like open manholes (窨井).
After the typhoon
• Check for trouble
After the typhoon has passed, check your house for any damage. If there’s some big structural damage, don’t enter the building right away.
Watch out for fallen power lines. Keep a safe distance from them because they might still be “alive.”
• Help out!
If you’re safe and sound, be a hero and help your neighbors, especially the old folks and those with disabilities. Let’s work to recover from typhoon together!
41. The underlined part “mess up” in paragraph 1 most probably means “________.”
A. clean B. decorate C. destroy D. build
42. Before the typhoon, what kind of food should we prepare?
A. Ice cream and cakes.
B. Fast food like hamburgers.

Money Tips for Teens
I was not good with money when I was a teenager. Every week, I ate at the mall and bought lots of clothes. I wish I had been told more about saving money then. Now, I would like to share three tips to help you ____47____ the mistakes I made.
First, start a money-saving habit ____48____. By the time you are a teenager, you should have been brushing your teeth twice a day for years. This should have become a habit. A habit is something you do ____49____. You don’t think too much about it. When it comes to money, the power of habit is very important. The older you get, the ____50____ it can seem to start saving even 10 percent of your income. But if you started saving money now, saving 10 percent or even more of your income would not seem to be a challenge to you because it’s just a habit.
My tip No. 2 is to ____51____ your spending. This can be challenging because as a teenager, most of your money is in cash. It’s a good idea to open two bank accounts: one for money to be spent and one for money to be saved. With these accounts, it will be easier to track your spending. There are many great money tools online that can help you better ____52____ your money, such as Mint and Quicken.
My last suggestion is to use your Student ID wisely. You can get many price cuts using your ID: tickets to museums, concerts, movies, train travel and so on. Whenever you want to buy something, ask ____53____ there is a student discount.

Read the passage and complete the tasks(根据短文内容,完成任务)(74-79 题,每题 2 分80 题,5 分;共 17 分)
Going slow with fast fashion
Teenagers Tess and Monica love fashion, but lately they’ve changed the way they think about the clothes they buy.
“We used to buy lots of new clothing online,” says Tess. “On social media, we would see a celebrity or influencer wearing a nice outfit, and then a few days later we’d see something similar advertised online. These items were cheap. It was easy to get them delivered.”
“It’s natural to want to keep up with fashion,” adds Monica. “Who doesn’t love wearing something new? But often we only wore a garment (一件衣服) a few times before throwing it away. It didn’t feel right. I heard the term ‘fast fashion’, and we decided to do some research. We were shocked!”
Worldwide, the fashion industry creates 80 billion new items of clothing every year, causing significant problems. A lot of clothes are made from polyester, a plastic. When people throw them away, these items have to go somewhere: either they are burnt, or they are sent to landfill. Burning plastic causes air pollution. And plastic can take hundreds of years to break down, so plastic in landfill just sits there. The landfill problem keeps growing.
“We weren’t sure how we could change things,” says Tess. “But we decided to take small steps. We started looking for second-hand clothes — things someone else has finished with but are still in good condition. I’ve found some fantastic outfits in thrift stores!”
“Of course we can’t stop buying new clothes altogether, but do we need to buy so many, so often?” asks Monica. “There’s an idea called the ‘30-wear rule’. When buying a new item of clothing, ask yourself, ‘Will I wear this at least 30 times?’ If the answer is no, don’t buy it!”
“We’ve certainly changed our thinking about fashion,” says Tess. “We encourage other young people to think about it too. The simple message from us is: buy less clothing and wear it for longer!”

A saying about friendship that speaks to me is “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out”. It means true friends stay when things are hard.
Once, I failed a math exam and felt very sad. Most classmates walked away, but my best friend stayed. She encouraged me and helped me review lessons carefully. With her help, I improved greatly and regained confidence. This experience teaches me that friendship is not just about sharing happiness, but also supporting each other in trouble.

It connects to fitness apps and includes fun exercise games to help users stay motivated. Wheely-X was created by Kangsters, a company that develops technology for people with disabilities. The product is now available for individuals, gyms, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers

42. Before the typhoon, what kind of food should we prepare?
A. Ice cream and cakes.
B. Fast food like hamburgers.
C. Fresh fruit and soft drinks.
D. Canned food, biscuits, and bottled water.
43. Why is it important to tie down things like garden chairs and garbage cans in the yard before the typhoon?
A. Because they will be damaged when the typhoon hits.
B. Because you may need to use them during the typhoon.
C. Because they will be nowhere to be found after the typhoon.
D. Because strong winds can blow them away and they may cause harm.
44. According to the article, how can you stay informed about the weather during a typhoon?
A. By looking at the clouds outside.
B. By asking other people in the neighborhood.
C. By checking weather information on TV or on the phone.
