Many ancient customs risk being forgotten. Therefore, it’s crucial to take action. Firstly, schools should integrate traditional festival education into their curricula. By learning about the history and significance, students can develop a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture. Furthermore, individuals can actively participate in cultural events, such as attending dragon boat races or lantern-making contests. Let’s work together to preserve and pass on these valuable customs to future generations. Only in this way can we ensure that the rich cultural traditions of China continue to shine brightly. 听力原文 Text 1 W: You look smart! Where are you going? M: Today is my grandparents’ golden wedding anniversary. All the family will be there, even my cousins who live in Australia. (1) Text 2 W: Kingscliffe Library. Can I help you? M: Yes. My library book is due back, but I had a bit of an emergency, and I can’t come to return it. Can I renew it? (2) W: That’s no problem. Text 3 W: Don’t tell me you were at the office very late last night! M: Yeah, I had to finish that report. W: Be careful, or you’re gonna burn yourself out. (3) Text 4 W: Good morning. What can I get you today? M: Eggs always sound good. But what do you suggest? W: If you’re really hungry, the pancakes or pies are wonderful. M: Hmm. I’ll have a pancake, please. And a cup of milk. (4) Text 5 M: Will that be another unnecessary purchase? W: No! It’s something I really need. M: Why do you need another coat? You already have many coats at home. (5) Text 6 W: Hi. This is Janet Sayers with Acme Supplies. We received your order yesterday. We have everything you requested except the printer. It’s currently unavailable. (6) M: I’m sorry to hear that. Our current machine keeps breaking down. How soon do you think you’ll have it? W: Within a week. I can ship the rest of your order, and when the printer gets here, I’ll send it by express delivery for no extra charge. (6) M: That’s OK. Could you also call and let me know when it arrives on your end? (7) Text 7 M: Thanks for coming to this exit interview, Echke. So let’s start with the most important question. Why did you decide to leave? W: Well, I got a better job at another company. M: What makes that job more attractive? W: Well, to be honest, I’ll be doing the same work for more pay. Our pay here is below market rate, you know. (8) M: Yes. We’ve heard this comment from other departing employees. I’ll be sure to pass it on to management again, though. (9) Now, please tell me your impression of your manager. Text 8 W: Do you know that Walt Disney won the most Oscar awards in history? M: Yes, I do. I read the other day that he actually received a total of 26 Oscars. His first award was for the creation of Mickey Mouse. I think it was in 1932 or in 1933. (10) And the last one was for Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day in 1969. W: Wait a second, Tony, didn’t Walt Disney die in 1966? M: I’m not sure of the exact year he died, but I do know he won his last award after his death. (11) W: That’s amazing. Well, I’m not really a fan of Mickey Mouse, but I watched Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day online with my kids last year, and I must say I really enjoyed it. (12) M: I agree. Of all Walt Disney films, Winnie the Pooh is my favorite. (12) Text 9 W: Hello, Mr. Thompson. I’m Alexandra Jones. I want to ask you some questions about the project that you offer. (13) M: Yes, of course, please fire away. W: Has the project been effective in improving the environment? M: Yes, absolutely. We have seen great results. Last year, we planted a small field of trees, and we have been measuring their oxygen output to see the benefits that they have provided to the environment. (14) Our current goal is to plant a lot more tree species so that we can compare the benefits of each species. In order to do this, we need to get a lot more students involved in the project. (15) W: Well, the project sounds fascinating. I would definitely like to be involved. (13) M: Absolutely. Over the years, we have received funding from private investors and from selling shares, but the biggest improvement in our research came from a government fund that we received in the first year. (16) This has greatly improved the organization, and we have since won prizes for our research. W: Wow, how impressive! Text 10 Hi, everyone. I’m a weather forecaster, which means I study what happens in the atmosphere and the weather conditions that occur on Earth. People are always surprised to learn that forecasters aren’t just involved in weather reporting on TV, but they could also work at a radio station, too. I often get asked how I got interested in weather. Believe it or not, as a teenager, I became nervous of thunderstorms, and I’d often check the forecasts to see if any were coming. From there, my interest developed. (17) If you are thinking of going into weather forecasting, there are some important skills you’ll need. You have to be good at science, of course. The essential thing is having the ability to make sense of patterns. (18) You won’t go too far wrong with that. Another useful skill is being able to translate a forecast into something people at home can understand. Most weather experts study physics and math before going on to do a more specialized course in forecasting. My own way in was somewhat different, as I did a business degree before getting into television as a researcher. (19) I moved around quite a lot at the TV station and eventually ended up in the weather department, where I did my training. Planning Your Visit Before you go, contact your local fire or police station to find out if they offer public tours. Most departments are happy to arrange visits, but you must call ahead. Given that, it’s wise to plan your visit a few weeks in advance. Here’s a quick checklist to help you prepare: ● Select a Date: Choose a day that fits your schedule and allows for some flexibility, just in case your preferred time slot is unavailable. ● Reach Out: Call the station and ask about available tour dates, times, and any specific visitor guidelines to follow. ● Prepare Your Kids: Talk to your kids about the visit. Discuss the importance of the work that firefighters and police officers do. Encourage questions they might want to ask. What to Expect You will see how fire trucks operate and learn about the tools used in rescue operations. Your child might even find a new role model in the brave firefighters or police officers who dedicate their lives to helping others. Most significantly, they will learn practical safety skills such as “stop, drop and roll” and how to call 911 in an emergency. After the Visit Follow-up activities like drawing pictures, playing role-play games, or reading books about community helpers will help reinforce the day’s experience and keep the excitement alive. 21. What is advised when planning a visit? (原创) A. Schedule the visit weeks ahead. B. Choose a date without flexibility. C. Make a quick preparation checklist. D. Keep the visit a surprise for the kids. 22. What’s the most important thing children get from the visit? (原创) A. Knowing rescue tools. B. Learning life-saving skills. C. Finding a new role model. D. Seeing how fire trucks work. 23. Who are the intended readers? (原创) A. Children B. Police C. Parents. D. Teachers B William Butler Yeats, a most famous Irish writer, was born in Dublin on June 13,1865. His childhood lacked the harmony of a happy family. Later, Yeats shocked his family by saying that he remembered “little of childhood but its pain”. In fact, he inherited (继承) excellent taste in art from his family — both his father and his brother were painters. But he finally settled on literature, particularly drama and poetry. Yeats had strong faith in coming of new artistic movements. He set himself the fresh task in founding an Irish national theatre in the late 1890s. His early theatrical experiments, however, were not received favorably at the beginning. He didn’t lose heart, and finally enjoyed success in his poetical drama. Compared with his dramatic works, Yeats’s poems attract much admiring notice. The subject matter includes love, nature, history, time and aging. Though Yeats generally depended on very traditional forms, he brought modern factors to them. As his literary life continued, his poetry grew finer and richer, which led him to worldwide recognition. He had not enjoyed a major public life since winning the Nobel Prize in 1923. Yet, he continued writing almost to the end of his life. Had Yeats stopped writing at age 40, he would probably now be valued as a minor poet, for there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produces his greatest works between the ages of 50 and 75. After Yeats’s death in 1939, W. H. Auden wrote, among others, the following lines: Earth, receive an honoured guest: William Yeats is laid to rest. Let the Irish vessel (船) lie Emptied of its poetry. 24. Which of the following can describe Yeats’s family? A. It was a typically wealthy family. B. It had an artistic atmosphere. C. It was shocked by Yeats’s choice. D. It filled Yeats’s childhood with joy. 25. According to the passage, what do we know about Yeats? A. He founded the first Irish theater. B. He mainly wrote modern-style poems. C. He produced his best works in his last 25 years. D. He rose to fame after winning the Nobel Prize. 26. What feeling is expressed in W. H. Auden’s lines? (改编) A. Disappointment. B. Admiration. C. Anxiety. D. Emptiness. 27. What is the passage mainly about? A. Yeats’s national honor. B. Yeats’s artistic beliefs. C. Yeats’s pain and delight. D. Yeats’s art and influence. C Recycling lithium-ion batteries to get back important metals like lithium, nickel and cobalt is much less harmful to the environment than digging raw metals from the ground, according to a new Stanford University lifecycle analysis published in Nature Communications. The study measures the environmental effect of this recycling process and finds that recycling produces less than half the greenhouse gases of usual mining. It also uses about one-quarter of the water and energy needed to mine new metals. The environmental benefits are even bigger for the scrap (废料) stream, which accounted for about 90% of the recycled supply studied. The environmental impacts of battery recycling depend a lot on where the processing plant is located and what kind of electricity it uses. “A battery recycling plant in areas that depend heavily on electricity from burning coal would see a smaller climate advantage,” said Samantha Bunke, one of the study’s three lead researchers. “On the other hand, fresh water shortages in areas with cleaner electricity are a big worry,” she added. Most of the study’s data for battery recycling came from Redwood Materials in Nevada. It is North America’s largest industrial-scale lithium-ion battery recycling plant and benefits from the cleaner energy mix of the western U. S. Redwood, which has since started building a new plant in South Carolina, was one of the first to apply the lessons from this project to its own work and environmental footprint. Its founder, JB Straubel, said that the insights of this research have played a key role in refining Redwood’s battery recycling processes. “Thanks to the researchers’ observations, we have further reduced our environmental footprint,” he noted. While the U. S. now recycles about 50% of available lithium-ion batteries, it has successfully recycled 99% of lead-acid batteries for many years. “Given that used lithium-ion batteries contain materials with up to 10 times higher economic value, the chance is huge,” senior author William Tarpeh said. “For a future with a much larger supply of used batteries, we need to design and prepare a recycling system today — from collection to making new batteries again — with very little environmental impact,” he added. “Hopefully, battery makers will also think about how to make their batteries easier to recycle in their future plans.” 28. What does the Stanford study say about battery recycling? (原创) A. It is worse than mining. B. It uses more water than mining. C. It is better for the environment. D. It produces the same greenhouse gases. 29. Why is Redwood Materials mentioned? A. To show the key role of battery industries. B. To highlight its reduced climate advantage. C. To criticize its harm to the environment. D. To show the practical use of the research. 30. What does the underlined word “refining” mean in paragraph 4? A. Bettering. B. Shaking. C. Starting. D. Limiting. 31. What is Tarpeh’s suggestion for battery producers? (改编) A. Stop recycling lead-acid batteries. B. Focus on their processing cost. C. Make batteries easy to recycle. D. Limit the use of lead-acid batteries. D Is friendship with a chatbot as good as friendship with an actual person? Valerie Tiberius, in her new book Artificially Yours, dives headfirst into the philosophical puzzle of chatbot companionship and what it reveals about the nature of friendship. Concerned with ethics, moral psychology, and well-being, she approaches the subject not as a technologist but with a philosophical interest in what makes friendships tick. The book’s central aim is less about predicting technological change than about explaining what friendship is and why it’s valuable — and why there is no perfect replacement for human friends. She defines the ideal friendship as an enjoyable, close relationship built on shared activities between people who care about each other for their own sake. But few things in life are ever ideal, including friendship. Tiberius demonstrates how different kinds of friendships can be valuable in different ways: they can be pleasurable or useful, they can shape who we are and how we see ourselves, and the best ones are good for their own sakes. With this framework in place, she turns to the question of whether chatbots can be genuine friends. Machines can have goals — much like a chess program that aims to win — and intelligence can be understood as the ability to accomplish complex goals. But consciousness is the ability to have a subjective experience, which contemporary chatbots lack. Chatbots can mimic some features of friendship — empathy, attention, companionship — which is part of their powerful appeal. Although talking with chatbots can help people cope with life’s challenges, they cannot genuinely admire us, share our vulnerability, or understand human suffering and mortality. Can future superintelligent chatbots self-improve and overcome their limitations? Tiberius observes, “I don’t see any reason to trust that AI left to learn on its own will learn what we want it to.” The profit motives of AI companies also give her pause. Ultimately rejecting both techno-pessimism and techno-optimism, she argues for a middle ground: AI companions may offer comfort or teach us important skills, potentially enriching and supplementing the irreplaceable value of human friendship. 32. What is the book aimed at? (原创) A. Defining what friendship is scientifically. B. Proving chatbots can never be genuine friends. C. Predicting future AI companionship technologies. D. Defending the irreplaceability of human friendship. 33. What might Valerie Tiberius agree with? (原创) A. All friendships are not ideal. B. Ideal friendships are all alike. C. Imperfect friendship is worthless. D. Mutual caring makes friendship valuable. 34. What does Para.4 focus on? (原创) A. The limitations of chatbots as friends. B. Machines’ ability to achieve complex goals. C. How chatbots mimic empathy and attention. D. How chatbots help in overcoming challenges. 35. What’s Tiberius’s attitude towards AI companions? (原创) A. Optimistic B. Cautious C. Doubtful D.
