七、阅读理解。
A篇
There comes a time for every family when the tables are turned and the parent has to answer to the child. Mine came recently when my wife and I stayed with our elder son in Los Angeles. A whole week under his roof!
“Dad, don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth,” Nathaniel told me seriously on our first night. I grabbed extra paper towels to wipe the kitchen counter and was instructed to use the dishcloth. Don’t wear a neck warmer when walking the dogs in the morning — it will warm up when we get to the park. Why drink so much sparkling water(苏打水)? And do you have to take a shower before we drive to Topanga?
At first I wondered how I’d raised an awkward(不好应付的) son. Then I remembered how often I threw the golden rule of parenting at Nathaniel and his siblings when they were young. “Someday, you’ll have a home of your own and can live however you want,” I’d say. “Until then, you’ll have to do as we ask.” And so I smilingly did as Nathaniel said, but with a touch of playfulness, like hiding a separate roll of paper towels in the storeroom, or moving one of his favorite photographs a few inches.
There were perks of following Nathaniel’s advice. He washed the dishes after dinner. He also set up our daily outings. And he willingly drove everywhere, sparing us the pain of Los Angeles’ traffic. One afternoon, we were walking along El Matador State Beach and hit an extended patch of rocks — clearly the end of the line. Nathaniel guided me across one large stone to the next, patiently telling me where
to place my feet and hands as ocean waves came close. I was frightened, but after a couple hundred yards we made it to a fresh sandy beach. “You did it! I’m really proud,” he said. It was then that I knew for sure that the son also rose to fatherhood.
1.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?( )
A.Nathaniel’s various rules.
B.The father’s unhealthy lifestyles.
C.Parent-child arguments.
D.The father’s forgetfulness.
2.What does the underlined word “perks” in paragraph 4 mean?( )

3.According to the last paragraph, what should a father be?( )

4.What does the author’s experience show?( )

B篇
Meaningful conversations with children can be challenging for a parent. The book How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish provides much advice on improving relationships with children.
Faber and Mazlish are known for their smart ways of helping parents and kids communicate better. The book has six chapters(章节), each about different skills that can help parents deal with common problems. The authors discuss many things parents face daily, from dealing with their kids’ bad feelings to setting strict but kind rules. One of the best things about the book is how much it stresses the importance of understanding and supporting kids’ feelings. The authors say a clear connection exists between how kids feel and how they act. Parents can create a safe environment where parents and kids can trust each other and work together by recognizing and understanding their feelings. This is different from the usual ways of dealing with problems involving(涉及) punishment and threats, which often make things worse instead of better.
The writing style is clear and simple, so people can quickly learn and implement the skills in their everyday life. The tasks at the end of each chapter make it even more useful by encouraging readers to try the skills and learn them by heart.
Everyone who wants to improve their communication with kids should read this book. Its respectful and understanding methods strengthen relationships and improve parenting. It is a helpful tool for parents dealing with stubborn children or the emotional ups and downs of teenagers.
Following the ideas in this book, parents can make their homes more peaceful places, where kids feel heard and understood. This contributes to raising confident, respectful, and smart kids. Everyone who wants to learn how to communicate with children effectively must read this famous book.
