Beware of Online“Filter Bubbles”
When I was growing up in a really rural area, the Internet meant something different to me.It meant a connection to the world. It meant something that would link us all together. But there's a shift in how information is flowing online, and it's invisible. If we don't pay attention to it,it could be a real problem.
If I search for something, and you search for something, even right now at the very same time,we may get very different search results. That's because there are a lot of different companies whose business is to generate personalized searches.Different people get different things. And this moves us quickly toward a world in which the Internet is showing us what it thinks we want to see,but not necessarily what we need to see.As Eric Schmidt said,“it will be very hard for people to watch or consume something that has not in some sense been tailored for them.”
So I do think this is a problem. If you take all these filters together, you get what I call a filter bubble. And your filter bubble is your own personal, unique universe of online information. What's in your filter bubble depends on who you are and what you do.But the thing is that you don't get to decide what gets in.And more importantly, you don't know what's edited out.So I think the best editing should give us both information vegetables and information dessert. But the challenge with these personalized filters is that, because they’re mainly looking at what you click on first,it can throw off the balance. So you can end up surrounded by information junk food.
There are a lot of people who have helped to build the Web,and I'm grateful for that. But we really need you to make sure the filters have a sense of public life,a sense of civic responsibility. We need you to give us some control so that we can decide what gets through and what doesn't.We need the Internet to introduce us to new ideas and new people and different perspectives.Thank you.

1.D
定位:文章第一段提到"there are a lot of different companies whose business is to generate per'sonalized searches"(有很多公司
选项A(使
2.B.They may limit people's access to diverse perspectives.
定位:文章第三段作者提出了“过滤气泡(filter bubble)”的概念,并说you don't know what''s edited out'"(你不知道被编
4.B.The speaker calls for more control over personalized filters.
responsibility)、需要给用户控制权(give us some control)、需要互联网引入新观点(introduce us to new ideas)。
选项A(限制使用)和C(优

success意为“成功”,a stepping stone to success是固定
confusion(困惑)、poverty(贫穷)、silence(沉默)均不符
their busy lives and enjoy a moment of peace'”(逃离繁忙生活,享受片刻宁静)的地方,cozy意为“舒适的、温馨的”,最能
