Instead of spending Labor Day weekend at home my uncle decided to make a trip to Ontario, Canada. After doing a Google search he found a cottage on Nokara Farms in St. Catherines, Canada and that is where we went.
Cottage we stayed at was located on Nokara Farms. The cottage overlooked Ontario Lake and the view was exciting. Lying on the couch and looking straight out of the window I could see Ontario Lake.
In the morning of our first day there, we traveled around the farm. I was glad that I hadn’t forgotten to bring my camera along with me. I was able to take some amazing photographs of the lake and the sunset. In the afternoon, the owner of the farm took us on a tour of the farmland and then allowed us to pick fruits and vegetables.
Niagara-on-the-Lake is a town in Ontario, Canada and we went to visit it on our second day there. While walking along the main street, I saw a couple that were dressed up like people from the old days, which was interesting to see. Another amazing thing that I saw was a monument that listed the names of the people who swam across Ontario Lake.
I have been to Niagara Falls in the past but I have never visited it in the evening when everything is lit up. In the evening of our second day there, so majestic, so magical, especially with the fireworks overhead. However, there were too many people visiting Niagara Falls that night. It was too crowded. It gave me a feeling that something big was going to happen and that’s when the fireworks started. No wonder so many people came there that night.
The third day we went home. My trip to Ontario, Canada was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I definitely want to return there in the future, hopefully in the near future.

C
It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries (食品杂货), saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity (人性) as a whole. And it has influenced us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.
8. Why was the bike so important to the couple?
A. They used it for work and daily life.
B. It was their only possession.
C. It was a nice Kona 18 speed.
D. The man’s job was bike racing.
9. What do the couple learn from their experience?
A. Strangers are usually of little help.
B. One should take care of their bike.
C. News reports make people famous.
D. An act of kindness can mean a lot.
10. How did people get to know the couple’s problem?
A. From a stranger.
B. From a newspaper.
C. From TV news.
D. From radio broadcasts.
11. From this story, we can see humanity is .
A. commercial B. evil C. kind D. notorious
A 9. D 10. B 11. C

根据第二段“The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries (食品杂货), saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live. (那辆黑色的科纳18型自行车是我们唯一的交通工具。Trevor用它来上班,每周工作60个小时来养活他年轻的家庭。自行车还可以用来买东西,这样我们就不用从住处走很远的路了。)”可知,自行车之所以对作者一家来说很重要是因为它是家里唯一的交通工具,一家人依靠它来工作和生活。故选A。
根据最后一段中“This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity (人性) as a whole. And it has influenced us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.

和“It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
D
It’s not easy to feel like you’re always under the spotlight being judged for each little mistake you make. Your mind is in an endless circle playing what you said and did over and over again. And you wish you had a time capsule (胶囊) to go back and make things change if you find mistakes. You fear what others will think about you and that they will dislike you. You want to be socially perfect.
Academically, you work long endless hours just to make those excellent marks. Although most would say “it’s good to have high standards (标准)”, they have no idea about the internal bell you put yourself through to achieve perfection. If you come up to less than your desired goal, you will feel as though you have failed, but you’re far from failing; you just don’t see it that way. So instead you are telling yourself that you’re stupid, and not smart. The pressure you place on yourself weighs you down and you wear the “not good enough” label each and every day.
You not only have high standards for yourself but you also have them for others. If people don’t perform up to your expectations then you will think them not good enough. This causes a lot of frustration because you can’t trust anyone to get things right. So instead of being a team player you fly solo and try to do two or three jobs at once. Your unrealistic expectations cause you to criticize and judge others and that leads to problems in other aspects of your life.
The attempt to be perfect is called perfectionism and it’s damaging our emotional and mental health. We fight for perfection of our body, our performance, and our relationships. In a society that overstates mistakes, is it any wonder that so many young people attempt the impossible task of being perfect?
We all have fears and make mistakes, and that’s perfectly OK. It’s our imperfections that makes life interesting and they help us grow into a stronger and more adaptable person. We don’t have to achieve the impossible. We are designed to be perfectly imperfect.
12. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A diary. B. A novel. C. A magazine. D. A guidebook.
13. Which of the following is a perfectionist most likely to agree?
A. Nobody is perfect. B. Be generous with praise.
C. There is no best, only better. D. A contented mind is an everlasting feast.
14. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. The society plays a role in perfectionism.
B. More and more people are making mistakes.
C. Many young people find it impossible to be perfect.
D. It’s unusual for a society to seek perfectionism nowadays.
15. What does the author think of the imperfection?
A. It’s unbearable. B. It`s part of our life.
C. It has to be overcome. D. It does harm to our mental health.
C 13. C 14. A 15. B
在文章中作者剖析了完美主义者的心态,讨论了过度追求完美不仅影响身心健康,而且会因为对别人苛求而产生许多问题,在最后一段“We all have fears and make mistakes, and that’s perfectly OK. It’s our imperfections that makes life interesting and they help us grow into a stronger and more adaptable person. We don’t have to achieve the impossible. We are designed to be perfectly imperfect.(我们都有恐惧,都会犯错,这完全没有关系。
根据第二段中的“If you come up to less than your desired goal, you will feel as though you have failed, but you’re far from failing; you just don’t see it that way. So instead you are telling yourself that you’re stupid, and not smart. The pressure you place on yourself weighs you down and you wear the ‘not good enough’ label each and every day.(如果你没有达到你想要的目标,你会觉得自己失败了,但你远没有失败;你只是不这么看。所以你反而告诉自己你很愚蠢,不聪明。你给自己施加的压力让你感到沉重,你每天都戴着‘不够好’的标签)”、第三段中的“You not only have high standards for yourself but you also have them for others. If people don’t perform up to your expectations then you will think them not good enough. (你不仅对自己有高标准,对别人也有高标准。如果人们没有达到你的期望,那么你会认为他们不够好)”以及第四段中的“The attempt to be perfect is called perfectionism and it’s damaging our emotional and mental health. We fight for perfection of our body, our performance, and our relationships.
根据第四段“The attempt to be perfect is called perfectionism and it’s damaging our emotional and mental health. We fight for perfection of our body, our performance, and our relationships. In a society that overstates mistakes, is it any wonder that so many young people attempt the impossible task of being perfect? (追求完美被称为完美主义,它正在损害我们的情感和心理健康。我们为完美的身体、完美的表现和完美的人际关系而奋斗。在一个夸大错误的社会里,有那么多年轻人试图完成不可能完成的任务,追求完美,这有什么好奇怪的?)”可知,一个夸大错误的社会里,年轻人追求完美试图完成不可能完成的任务是不足为奇的;由此可知,夸大错误的社会使年轻人追求完美主义,即社会对完美主义者发挥了作用。故选A。
根据最后一段“We all have fears and make mistakes, and that’s perfectly OK. It’s our imperfections that makes life interesting and they help us grow into a stronger and more adaptable person. We don’t have to achieve the impossible. We are designed to be perfectly imperfect.(我们都有恐惧,都会犯错,这完全没有关系。

I was a single mother in my 30s who lived down and out with my daughter Peggy in a small apartment, struggling hard to make our needs meet.
One day, I headed to the downtown for an interview. I sat down in the streetcar, and there against the seat was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle decorated with gold scrolls, among which there was a name carved.
On impulse (冲动) I determined to find the owner myself. I got off the streetcar in the heavy rain and thankfully opened the umbrella to protect myself. Then I searched a telephone book for the name, I found it immediately and called it, waiting patiently, and then a lady answered.
“Yes,” she said in surprise, with extreme excitement. “It was my umbrella which had been stolen a year ago.”
So appealing was her pleasure that I forgot I was looking for a job and went directly to her small house. She took the umbrella, with teary eyes, explaining with choking voice that the umbrella was given by her parents, now dead. Her happiness at retrieving (找回) this special possession was such that to have accepted her reward would have spoiled something, so I refused her offer and left.
The following months were hard. I can only obtain temporary employment, for a small salary. What was worse, I had just lost my last job before Christmas, with only fifteen dollars left. Unless a miracle happened, I would be homeless in January, foodless and jobless. I had prayed steadily for weeks, and there had been no answer but this coldness and darkness.
The air was full of Christmas merriment, with the bells ringing and children shouting in the bitter dusk of the evening. But there should be no Christmas for me, I knew, no gifts, no remembrance whatsoever.
Thinking of this, I couldn’t control my tears on my way home, but I managed a smile so I could greet my little daughter. She opened the door for me and threw herself in my arms, screaming joyously and demanding desirably for her Christmas gift. There I stood, frozen, overwhelmed by misery.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Peggy rushed to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus.

Suddenly, a note attached to one package caught my eyes.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Peggy rushed to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus. Then I heard a man talking heartily to her and went to the door. He was a delivery man, and his arms were full of parcels. “This is a mistake,” I said, but he read the name on the parcels and they were for me. When he had gone, I didn’t know what to do. Later, Peggy and I sat on the floor looking at each other. What a surprise! I looked for the name of the sender.
Suddenly, a note attached to one package caught my eyes. I picked up the note, which read “Thanks for returning of the umbrella. Merry Christmas! “It was sent by the lady. Holding the note tightly, I was on the verge of tears, with a stream of warmth spreading through my body. On that cold Christmas, I forgot I had no money for the rent and only fifteen dollars in my pocket. We just sat in our small apartment unwrapping the gifts one by one in happiness. A sweet peace flooded me like a blessing which made me hopeful again.

A. commercial B. evil C. kind D. notorious

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Peggy rushed to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus.
