Try a “play street”! It’s a community event where neighbors close a street to traffic, creating a safe place for children to play. This helps kids and adults to explore, create, and socialize, which will bring the connections between neighbors to a new height. Unlike organized games with strict rules and fixed processes, a play street allows children to take the lead, make rules and get involved in various activities freely. How to Start: 1. Have a meeting to discuss benefits and encourage involvement. Choose an event date and give tasks to the neighbors. 2. Get the necessary permits from the local government, or the entire plan will be canceled. 3. Use posters and social media to inform everyone in the community of the date, time, and activities. 4. Set up safe barriers, prepare some play equipment, and welcome everyone to join. What You Can Do at the Event: ·Game Areas: A variety of play equipment tailored for kids, such as jump ropes, balls, chalk for drawing, hula hoops and other outdoor games. ·Swapping Corner: A place where kids can bring toys, books or old household goods to exchange with each other. ·Arts and Crafts Seating: Arts and crafts seating with materials like paper, markers, crayons, paints and brushes. Children are encouraged to get creative and express themselves through art. ·Snack and Refreshment Station: Light refreshments like water, juice, fruit and healthy snacks to keep participants of all ages energized. A potluck to share homemade treats and recipes. 1. What is the main purpose of a “play street”? A. To stop traffic jams. B. To help neighbors become closer. C. To explore kids’ ability to make art. D. To involve children in organized games. 2. What is a must to hold the event? A. Raising money from the community. B. Telling everyone the game rules. C. Getting permission from the government. D. Putting up safety notices everywhere. 3. Which activity is intended for both children and adults? A. Game Areas. B. Arts and Crafts Seating. C. Swapping Corner. D. Snack and Refreshment Station. 1. B 2. C 3. Their groundbreaking discovery of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has given rise to a new class of porous materials (多孔材料) capable of storing, filtering, and transforming molecules (分子). “I grew up in a very humble home. We were a dozen of us in one small room, sharing it with the cattle that we used to raise,” he told the Nobel Foundation in an interview after learning he had won the Nobel Prize. Their home had no electricity or running water. His father had only finished sixth grade and his mother could neither read nor write. At the age of 15, he was told by his father that he must go to the US to study and, within the year before he graduated from high school, he had got a visa and settled alone, in Troy, New York, to pursue his college education. With a poor grasp of English, Yaghi took courses in English, math and science at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. After working his way through college, he earned a B. S. in 1985, a Ph. D. from Illinois in 1990 and a Harvard postdoc, then taught at Arizona State, Michigan and UCLA before moving to UC Berkeley in 2012. There he directed the Molecular Foundry, founded the Berkeley Global Science Institute and now co-directs the Kavli Energy NanoScience Institute and BASF’s California Research Alliance. Now an American citizen living in Berkeley, Yaghi’s influence extends far beyond the lab. Through his concept of reticular (网状) chemistry, he has given science a new way to design the materials of the future. We were a dozen of us in one small room, sharing it with the cattle that we used to raise,” he told the Nobel Foundation in an interview after learning he had won the Nobel Prize. Their home had no electricity or running water. His father had only finished sixth grade and his mother could neither read nor write.(“我在一个非常简陋的家庭长大。 根据第二段中的“At the age of 15, he was told by his father that he must go to the US to study and, within the year before he graduated from high school, he had got a visa and settled alone, in Troy, New York, to pursue his college education.(15岁时,父亲告诉他必须去美国留学,在高中毕业前的一年内,他拿到了签证,独自在纽约州特洛伊市定居,继续大学学业。)” 故选A项。 根据最后一段中的“From refugee (难民) roots to Nobel glory, Omar Yaghi’s life is a witness to the power of persistence, imagination, and the universal language of science.(从难民出身到诺贝尔奖荣耀,奥马尔·亚吉的人生见证了毅力、想象力以及科学通用语言的力量。)” C Slow Travel is not a new idea, in fact, it is thought to have come about in the late 80s. The term appeared in the wake of the slow-food movement which stressed the importance of locally-sourced produce and home-cooked meals as an alternative to the increasing use of processed foods and fast-food restaurants. Where slow food offered a healthier and more sustainable approach to food consumption, slow travel was a similar reaction to the rise of mass tourism. Particularly, it aimed to get rid of some negative aspects of traditional travel, such as threats to cultural identity, environmental impacts, and the general commercial nature of mass tourism. After experiencing growth for almost two decades, interest in the term seems to have peaked in popularity back in 2004 with as many as 20,000 people googling the term on a monthly basis. In the following decade, interest fell sharply by as much as 80%. However, since 2018 the term has been slowly but steadily increasing in popularity once again. While using “slow” transport and staying longer in a destination can both help reach the objectives of slow tourism, the essential element isn’t necessarily traveling slowly. What is essential is focusing on your approach and attitude to travel. For those interested in pursuing this approach to travel, there is no strict set of guidelines to follow but rather a shift in mindset. Forget about trying to achieve a pre-planned set of experiences and instead focus on experiencing a new place, people, and culture through immersion (沉浸). There are many significant benefits of slow tourism for the traveler, the communities they visit, and the environment. Through conscious effort, travel can broaden our horizons and deepen our knowledge and understanding of people and places. It can deliver economic as well as social and cultural advantages to the local communities we visit. Slow travel also has the potential to minimize some of the negative impacts that travel can have on us, our community, and the environment. 8. What inspired the slow travel trend? A. The convenience of mass tourism. B. The popularity of fast-food restaurants. C. The rise of the slow-food movement. D. The advance of transportation technology. 9. How does Paragraph 3 develop its idea? A. By listing data. B. By using comparisons. C. By giving examples. D. By raising questions. 10. What do true slow travelers attach great importance to? A. Fixed schedules. B. Local involvement. C. Cozy accommodation. D. Souvenir collection. 11. What’s the author’s attitude towards slow tourism? A. Critical. B. Disapproving. C. Favorable. D. Uncaring. C 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Slow Travel is not a new idea, in fact, it is thought to have come about in the late 80s. The term appeared in the wake of the slow-food movement which stressed the importance of locally-sourced produce and home-cooked meals as an alternative to the increasing use of processed foods and fast-food restaurants.(慢旅行并不是一个新想法,事实上,它被认为是在80年代末出现的。 根据第三段“After experiencing growth for almost two decades, interest in the term seems to have peaked in popularity back in 2004 with as many as 20,000 people googling the term on a monthly basis. In the following decade, interest fell sharply by as much as 80%. However, since 2018 the term has been slowly but steadily increasing in popularity once again.(在经历了近二十年的增长之后,对这个术语的兴趣似乎在2004年达到了顶峰,每月有多达2万人在谷歌上搜索这个术语。 故选A项。 根据倒数第二段中“Forget about trying to achieve a pre-planned set of experiences and instead focus on experiencing a new place, people, and culture through immersion (沉浸).(忘记尝试实现一套预先计划好的体验,而是专注于通过沉浸来体验一个新的地方、人和文化)”可知,真正的慢旅行者专注于通过沉浸来体验一个新的地方、人和文化,非常重视当地参与。 根据最后一段中“There are many significant benefits of slow tourism for the traveler, the communities they visit, and the environment.(慢旅行对旅行者、他们所访问的社区和环境都有许多显著的好处)”可知,作者对慢旅行持支持的态度。故选C项。 D Lead poisoning (铅中毒) isn’t just an industrial-age problem. A new study says that early people took in lead long ago. This old contact may have changed the way their brains grew, worked and reacted to the world around them. “Our tests show that lead was already around our ancestors,” said Professor Renaud Joannes-Boyau of Southern Cross University. “Their brains lived under this poison for thousands of years. It could have changed their social life, group bonds and learning skills in ways we are only starting to see.” The team looked at Neanderthal teeth from Payre in southern France about 250,000 years old. With a laser method they found bright lead bands inside the enamel (牙釉质). In total, seventy-three percent of all ape and human fossils from Africa, Asia and Europe showed the same marks, so the metal prevailed across ancient landscapes. The metal probably came from natural sources: lead-rich soil, volcanic dust, or limestone water in the Rhône Valley. It was not later dirt stuck to the fossils or museum dust collected over time. Lead is a well-known neurotoxin (神经毒素); it harms learning, memory and social skills that keep groups together. Humans carry a gene called NOVA1 that controls “alternative splicing”, a tiny cut-and-paste job that lets one gene make many proteins (蛋白质). If NOVA1 is upset, problems such as autism, speech delay or schizophrenia may appear and change lives. In the lab the scientists built tiny 3D“mini-brains” that held the Neanderthal-like form of NOVA1. When they added small amounts of lead, the speech gene FOXP2 became less active and cells grew slowly. Mini-brains with the modern human form of NOVA1 kept FOXP2 working, clearly showing greater resistance to the poisonous metal. The results suggest that long contact with environmental lead pushed early humans to keep a protective version of NOVA1. This small but vital change may have improved survival, social talk, sharper language and group cooperation, and it still shapes how we face lead pollution in our modern industrial world today. 12. What did the new study find about lead poisoning? A. It affected early human’s social life. B. It was limited to the industrial age. C. It came from fossil collection. D. It damaged natural environment. 13. What does the word “prevailed” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Resisted violently. B. Spread widely. C. Changed frequently. D. Faded quickly. 14. What happened to FOXP2 in mini-brains with old NOVA1? A. It grew faster. B. It changed genes. C. It became stronger. D. It worked less. 15. What is the best title for the passage? A. Strange Teeth Show Early Life Stories B Powerful Genes Cured Modern Diseases C. Ancient Lead Exposure Shaped Human Brains D. Clever Scientists Solved the Mystery of Ancestors 【答案】12. A 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第二段“Their brains lived under this poison for thousands of years. It could have changed their social life, group bonds and learning skills in ways we are only starting to see. 故选A项。 根据第三段“In total, seventy-three percent of all ape and human fossils from Africa, Asia and Europe showed the same marks, so the metal prevailed across ancient landscapes. 根据第五段“When they added small amounts of lead, the speech gene FOXP2 became less active and cells grew slowly. 通读全文,特别是文章第一段“Lead poisoning isn’t just an industrial-age problem. A new study says that early people took in lead long ago. This old contact may have changed the way their brains grew, worked and reacted to the world around them.(铅中毒并非仅存在于工业时代的问题。 Taking charge of your emotions can be a challenging process. This tidy little park was their go-to spot for relaxing and just enjoying some precious leisure time. Max rushed ahead with a soccer ball under his arm, Ava and Sam following closely behind, full of energy. It was the kind of day that promised endless fun and carefree laughter. But as they stepped into the park, their hearts sank. The once-beloved playground was now a chaotic mess of discarded trash (乱扔的垃圾) — candy wrappers stuck in the slide’s metal bars, plastic bottles rolling in the wind, and chip bags lying underfoot. “Look at this!” Ava said, pointing at the mess near the swings. She couldn’t believe her eyes. Max’s face darkened, a wave of frustration washing over him. The three friends stood in shock, their eyes scanning the playground area. The once clean slides and swings were now buried under a layer of candy wrappers and plastic bottles. Ava cast a glance at the walking trails, where garbage seemed to have taken over, with discarded bags and cans lying everywhere. Sam noticed that even the grassy fields were a disaster. The vast and beautiful park seemed to have been ruined by people’s carelessness. “Who would be so thoughtless?” Max whispered, shaking his head. Sam kicked a plastic bottle in anger, sending it flying across the grass. “It’s not just thoughtless — it’s disrespectful.” After a moment of silence, Ava’s face brightened. “We can’t just leave it like this. Why don’t we do something about it? We can, say, form a Cleanup Squad (清洁小分队)…” she said, her voice soft but determined. Max and Sam exchanged an excited glance. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Looking at their work, they hoped to keep it that way. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 Max and Sam exchanged an excited glance. “That’s a great idea, Ava!” Max exclaimed. Sam nodded in agreement, his eyes shining with determination. Without hesitation, they quickly divided the tasks. Max ran to fetch some trash bags from his nearby home. Ava and Sam started collecting the larger pieces of garbage first, like the chip bags and plastic bottles. As they worked, Ava hummed a little tune, and the others joined in. Their laughter and songs rang throughout the park, making the cleanup seem more like a fun game. Before long, the playground was clean once more. The slides and swings sparkled in the sun, and the grassy fields were free of trash. Max, Ava, and Sam looked at each other, beaming with pride. Looking at their work, they hoped to keep it that way. “We should encourage more people to join us to keep the park clean,” Ava suggested, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. Inspired, they decided to launch the “Green Guardian” campaign. They designed eye-catching posters with slogans like “Your Trash, Your Responsibility” and shared them across social media. The following weekend, they organized a community cleanup event, inviting classmates and neighbors to join. To their delight, dozens of volunteers showed up. With these combined efforts, they helped raise environmental awareness, showing everyone that maintaining a beautiful park was a shared responsibility. From that day on, endless fun and carefree laughter filled the park, which always remained a beautiful and inviting place for everyone to enjoy. 词汇激活 行为类 ①分工:divide the tasks/assign roles ②发起:launch/start/initiate ③出现:show up/turn up/appear 情绪类 ①自豪:with pride/proudly ②欣喜:delight/joy 【点睛】[高分句型1] Their laughter and songs rang throughout the park, making the cleanup seem more like a fun game.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) [高分句型2] With these combined efforts, they helped raise environmental awareness, showing everyone that maintaining a beautiful park was a shared responsibility.(运用了现在分词短语作状语以及that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025——2026学年度耀正优高一年级(上)·期中学情检测 英 语 考生注意: 1. How much is the shirt? Try a “play street”! It’s a community event where neighbors close a street to traffic, creating a safe place for children to play. B Jordanian-American chemist Omar Yaghi of the University of California (UC) Berkeley, has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, sharing it with two other scientists. Their groundbreaking discovery of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has given rise to a new class of porous materials (多孔材料) capable of storing, filtering, and transforming molecules (分子). “I grew up in a very humble home. We were a dozen of us in one small room sharing it with the cattle that we used to raise,” he told the Nobel Foundation in an interview after learning he had won the Nobel Prize. Luck and timing. B. Wealth and support. C. Perseverance and creativity. D. Talent and confidence. C Slow Travel is not a new idea, in fact, it is thought to have come about in the late 80s. A. D Lead poisoning (铅中毒) isn’t just an industrial-age problem. It could have changed their social life, group bonds and learning skills in ways we are only starting to see.” The team looked at Neanderthal teeth from Payre in southern France, about 250,000 years old. A. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
