This was the first time that Mrs. Darling heard about Peter Pan. Wendy told her mother that Peter Pan came into their bedroom during the night. He sat on her bed and played tunes (曲子) to her on a pipe. She didn’t wake up but she knew Peter was there.
“No one can come into the house without knocking on the door, Wendy,” Mrs. Darling said.
“I think Peter came in through the window,” replied Wendy.
“But the window was upstairs, my dear! It’s too high.”
“But the leaves were near the window,” said Wendy.

Do you often hear birdsong outside the window? How do you feel when you hear it? In fact, it is shown that birdsong can influence people’s lives.
Birdsong sounds especially nice in winter because it reminds people of spring. A study found that listening to birdsong for six minutes can help make people less stressed. It’s hard to feel sad when you hear birds singing. Unlike music, which can sometimes make you produce strong feelings, birdsong is usually seen as positive (积极的) or neutral (中性的). If you live in a noisy city, birdsong can be a welcome relief from the stress caused by outside noise.
It is believed that birdsong has also been found to improve focus (注意). It can help people focus on their tasks. That’s because when people play birdsong in the background at work, it seems that a “wall” is built to help them stay away from the unpleasant noise outside. In this way, birdsong can be a powerful tool to improve productivity at work.
A doctor in North Carolina has also found that birdsong makes it easier to help people enter a deep sleep. Birdsong, as a kind of white noise, can slow down people’s heartbeats and breathing. After listening to birdsong for a long time, a conditioned response (条件反射) is developed in their brains. Therefore, birdsong becomes a signal of entering sleep, which helps them fall asleep faster than before and improves their sleep quality.
Birdsong, a gift from nature, connects people with calmer, more natural settings and makes people feel happier and healthier. So, next time you hear a bird singing, enjoy it and let it bring a little joy to your day!
11. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By comparing two places. B. By describing one thing.
C. By asking two questions. D. By listing a number.
12. What does the underlined word “relief” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. worry. B. break. C. music. D. feeling.
13. Who might be most interested in reading this passage?
A. People who enjoy loud electronic music.
B. People who are not interested in nature at all.
C. People who often feel stressed or have trouble sleeping.
D. People who live in very quiet places with no noise problems.
14. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. How birdsong improves focus at work.
B. How birdsong helps people sleep better.
C. How birdsong reduces stress in winter and cities.
D. How birdsong is a gift from nature to make people happy.
15. Why does the writer write this passage?
A. To suggest that people record birdsong and sell it.
B. To introduce different kinds of birds and their songs.
C. To warn people about the noise problems in modern cities.
D. To encourage people to notice and enjoy the benefits (益处) of birdsong.
