Long ago, before money was invented, people used to trade things they had. This system, known as barter (以物易物), had a big problem. If you had apples but wanted rice, you would have to find someone who not only had rice but also wanted apples. To solve this problem, people started using special objects that everyone would accept for trade, such as shells (贝壳), stones, or gold. Over time, these developed into the money we use today.
Today, money mainly exists in two ways. One is physical — the coins and bills we can hold in our hands. These are made and guaranteed (担保) by the government.
The other is digital — numbers shown on phones and computers. When you pay by card or send money online, you’re using digital money. No physical cash is used, but everyone accepts that those numbers stand for real money.
Banks play a big role in how money works. When people put their money in a bank, the bank doesn’t just let it sit there. It lends most of the money to other people or businesses. This process finally helps create new money for everyone to use.
Then why can’t we just print more money? That’s because
it will lead to serious problems. If a country prints more money but doesn’t make more goods, prices will go up. This is called inflation (通货膨胀) — the money you saved up buys fewer things than it did before.
Basically, what makes money work is trust. Everyone in society agrees that these coins, bills, or digital numbers have value. Without the shared trust, money would be nothing more than paper or meaningless numbers.
34. According to Para. 1, what was the main problem with the barter system?
A. People did not have enough things to trade.
B. It was hard to find someone whose trading needs matched yours.
C. It was difficult to agree on the exact value of different objects.
35. What does the underlined word “physical” in Para. 2 mean?
A. In a form that you can touch or see.
B. In a form that is very easy to carry.
C. Connected with the laws of nature.
36.What will happen if there is too much money printed in a country?
A. Banks will fail to lend out their money.
B. Things in stores will cost much more than before.
C. People will feel happy because everyone has more money..
37.Which idea does the writer most likely agree with?
A. Money will continue to change over time.
B. Money can’t buy anything required in life.
C. Money is a useful tool when people trust it.

Autism is a natural difference in how some people’s brains (大脑) work. People with autism may find it hard to naturally
understand other people’s minds or feelings. They may also express themselves in unusual ways.
Every year on April 2nd, the world comes together to mark World Autism Awareness Day (世界自闭症关注日). The day was first celebrated in 2008. This year, its theme is “Autism and Humanity — Every Life Has Value”. In a world that often rushes past the quiet, the different, or the misunderstood, this theme calls us to slow down, to listen, and to value every single life with open hearts.
What’s truly heartwarming is that many people from around the world are reaching out to those with autism. Dr. Sushama Nagarkar, a rehabilitation psychologist (康复心理学家) and loving mother, is a good example. In 2014, she founded Yash Charitable Trust in Mumbai, India. Her journey began at home as she watched her own daughter grow up with autism. Instead of giving in, Dr. Sushama chose to take action. She dreamed of a society where people with mental (智力的) and developmental disabilities could live, work, and belong with dignity (尊严).
Yash Charitable Trust began in a room only about 18 ㎡, serving only five children. Now, it has grown to help over 800 people. One of its most important projects is Café Arpan. Here, people with mental illness get hands-on training in food and drinks. They learn to make coffee, cook dishes, and bake bread. For example, “A”, a 25-year-old man with autism, joined the team in 2018. Today, he confidently manages the kitchen. His smile lights up the room as customers enjoy not only delicious coffee but also a warm connection.
Dr. Sushama holds a strong belief that every person can make a difference and be useful. That belief has created not only jobs, but also joy, respect, and the feeling of truly belonging.
38. Para. 2 tells us the ________ of this year’s World Autism Awareness Day.
①activities ②purpose ③date
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②③
39.Why did Dr. Sushama Nagarkar start Yash Charitable Trust?
A. She wanted to be famous as a psychologist.
B. Her own child’s experience moved her to act.
C. The government gave her money to set it up.
40. What does the story of “A” at Café Arpan show?
A. With training, autistic people can do jobs well.
B. Running a kitchen is not difficult for autistic people.
C. Autistic people are usually not good at working in a team.
41. What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To correct our wrong views about autism.
B. To encourage us to donate to Yash Charitable Trust.
C. To raise awareness about autism and share a warm story.
D
Noise pollution is a hidden danger. It cannot be seen, but it is everywhere. It is considered to be any unwanted sound that affects the health and lives of humans and other living things.
Sound is usually measured in decibels (分贝). In our environment, sounds are from very quiet ones, like leaves moving (10 to 20 decibels), to very loud ones, like a thunderclap (120 decibels). When a sound reaches 85 decibels or higher, it can hurt a person’s hearing. Of course, a quiet sound can also be noise pollution if it is unwanted.
Noise pollution affects millions of people every day. The most common health problem it causes is noise-induced hearing loss (噪声性耳聋). Being around loud noise can also cause high blood pressure, heart disease, and stress. These health problems can affect all age groups, especially children. Many children who live near noisy streets have been found to suffer from problems in memory, attention level, and reading skill.
Noise pollution also hurts the health of wildlife. Many animals use sound to navigate (导航), find food, attract partners, and avoid enemies. Noise pollution makes it difficult for them to finish these tasks. The problem is even worse for those living in the ocean.
Ships and sonar devices (声呐设备) have made the once quiet ocean noisy. Whales and dolphins are especially troubled by noise pollution. They depend on echolocation (回声定位) for basic survival activities, and too much noise gets in the way.
The world is full of sounds, but not all of them have to be loud. By choosing quieter ways to live and work, we can make the planet more peaceful for everyone.
42. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By giving a definition.
B. By describing a scene.
C. By sharing an experience.
43. What can be inferred about a sound at 30 decibels?
A. It is usually not made by humans.
B. It is so quiet that it can’t be heard.
C. It can be noise pollution in some cases.
44.We can replace the underlined phrase “gets in the way” in Para. 4 with “_______”.
A. causes trouble B. pulls together C. takes place
45.Why does the writer write the last paragraph?
A. To suggest making laws on noise pollution.
B. To encourage quieter living and working practices.
C. To tell us some detailed ways to reduce noise.

In January 2026, a group of students from Tsinghua University went on an academic (学术的) tour of Europe.
While visiting a health-themed exhibition in Switzerland, Huang Yunqi noticed some Swiss students waving warmly from outside the glass walls. They were having an outdoor English class that day. The two groups had a happy conversation. At the Swiss students’ invitation, the Tsinghua group visited their school the following day.
Before the visit, the Tsinghua students chose two parts of Chinese culture to share with the Swiss students: traditional Chinese medicine and traditional dance.
Li Siyu, 20, introduced pulse diagnosis (脉诊) and taught the students a set of eye exercises. “They were surprised to learn that eye exercises are part of the daily routine in many Chinese middle schools,” she said.
Huang led the dance part. She prepared videos showing dances of different Chinese ethnic (民族的) groups. When the Uygur dance video was played, the classroom came alive. All students moved their necks to the music. One Swiss student even danced with a Chinese student to the music. “We were like translators of culture,” Huang said. “We were trying to show Chinese culture in a way they could understand and experience.”
The Swiss students also made efforts to communicate. Whenever they didn’t understand a Chinese character, they would ask around the room until someone with strong English skills could help. When asked about future plans, the Swiss students shared their hopes to become nurses, doctors, or dentists. “I realized that, in many ways, we’re the same,” Huang said. “We all want to contribute to health and medicine.”
Before the trip, Huang had expected the experience to focus mainly on academic learning. “But what I remember most now isn’t the places we visited,” she said. “It’s the conversations we had and the connections we made along the way.”

A. Money will continue to change over time.

“It’s the conversations we had and the connections ◈we made along the way.”

According to the results, 30% of the students prefer reading books, and another 30% choose to do sports. Besides, 25% of them like taking trips, while 10% spend time on TV shows and 5% have other hobbies.
As for me, my favorite hobby is reading books because it helps me relax after a busy day and learn a lot of knowledge. I suggest we should develop some healthy hobbies, which can help us grow better.
