Chinese singer Zhou Shen has recently wrapped up the North American leg of his world concert tour. During his performances, he sang several well-known Chinese songs, such as The Lights of China and May Love Bloom. Through his music, Zhou aimed to show the beauty of Chinese culture to audiences across the world. The tour covered three major cities — New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver.
In an interview with China Daily, Zhou shared his thoughts on introducing Chinese music to global listeners. “Music has no borders (边界,国界),” he said. “I believe that if a piece of music is truly excellent, people from different cultural backgrounds will feel its charm.” He also expressed his hope to bring people together through singing, adding that he feels a deep responsibility as a Chinese artist to share his culture with the world.
Zhou’s concert attracted not only Chinese fans but also many local listeners who were curious about Chinese music. Some audience said they were deeply moved by the melodies, even without understanding the lyrics. One Canadian concertgoer said, “I don’t speak Chinese, but his voice made me feel the emotion. I will definitely listen to more of his songs.” Another local attendee described the concert as “a magical experience” that opened a door to a culture she had never explored before.
Rather than simply seeking fame abroad, Zhou views each performance as an opportunity to challenge the common assumption that non-English music has limited global appeal. He believes that language should never be a barrier to appreciating good music. By continuing to sing in Chinese and staying true to his artistic roots, Zhou hopes to inspire more international listeners to look beyond language barriers, discover the richness of Chinese musical traditions, and develop a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture and its timeless beauty.
4. What is the main purpose of Zhou Shen’s world concert tour?
A. To promote his songs all over the world.
B. To compete with local singers in Canada.
C. To introduce Chinese culture through music.

【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“Through his music, Zhou aimed to show the beauty of Chinese culture to audiences across the world.(通过他的音乐,周深旨在向全世界观众展示中国文化之美)”以及第二段“He also expressed his hope to bring people together through singing, adding that he feels a deep responsibility as a Chinese artist to share his culture with the world.(他还表示希望通过歌唱将人们凝聚在一起,并补充说作为一名中国艺术家,他深感有责任向世界传播自己的文化)”可知,周深世界巡演的主要目的是通过音乐向世界介绍中国文化。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段““Music has no borders (边界,国界),” he said. “I believe that if a piece of music is truly excellent, people from different cultural backgrounds will feel its charm.”(“音乐是没有国界的,”他说道。“我相信,如果一首音乐作品确实非常出色,那么来自不同文化背景的人们都会感受到它的魅力。”)可知,在周深看来,音乐本身的高品质才是让华语音乐被全球听众接受的关键。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Some audience said they were deeply moved by the melodies, even without understanding the lyrics. One Canadian concertgoer said, “I don’t speak Chinese, but his voice made me feel the emotion. I will definitely listen to more of his songs.”(一些观众表示,他们被这些旋律深深打动,即便不理解歌词也是如此。一位来自加拿大的观众说道:“我不懂中文,但他的歌声让我感受到了情感。我肯定会再听更多他的歌曲。”)”可推知,部分北美当地观众虽然存在语言障碍,但仍然被周深的音乐所触动。
【7题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段“Rather than simply seeking fame abroad, Zhou views each performance as an opportunity to challenge the common assumption that non-English music has limited global appeal. He believes that language should never be a barrier to appreciating good music.(周并非仅仅为了在国外博取名声而进行演出,他将每一次演出都视为一个挑战人们普遍assumption的机会,即认为非英语音乐在全球范围内缺乏吸引力。他认为,语言绝不应成为欣赏优质音乐的障碍)”可推知,周深认为“非英语音乐全球吸引力有限”是一种被人们视为理所当然、但实际上可能并不成立的看法。因此“assumption”最可能意为“被认为是理所当然但可能是错误的信念”。

Almost as soon as Cai Qun was born, 42 years ago, in a Miao village in Zhijin county, Guizhou Province’s Bijie city, her mother started to make her wedding dress. It took her around 15 years to finish the traditional Miao costume, as each step was entirely handmade.
Inspired by her mother, Cai fell in love with the traditional batik (蜡染) and embroidery (刺绣) techniques. She has been learning these skills from her mother since she was 8. Known as “fingertip ballet”, the batik technique of the Miao ethnic group in Zhijin county, which has a history of more than 2,000 years, was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage last year. According to Cai, “The patterns of the batik are passed down from generation to generation, and the round patterns, which are almost perfect, are all hand-drawn without the use of a ruler.”
As an inheritor of the Miao batik skill, Cai shoulders the responsibility to further advance it. Realizing that batik can be adapted to various products, especially souvenirs for tourists, in 2009, she decided to open a company that gathers female embroiderers in her village to produce handmade goods with complicated designs. When they took their embroidery products to a nearby scenic spot to sell, tourists were impressed. In Cai’s mind, the first step to innovating batik design is to add more elements relevant to modern daily life, and the color should be more contemporary.
As her business slowly grew, the local government offered her a loan to help her build a three-floor factory. To display complex batik paintings and delicate embroidery patterns, a museum was also established and named a provincial intangible cultural heritage productive protection display base by the provincial department of culture and tourism of Guizhou Province.
8. What was unique about the creation of Cai Qun’s wedding dress?
A. It blended modern fashion designs. B. It required various artisans’ collaboration.
C. It was crafted without machines. D. It used imported decorative materials.
9. Why did Cai Qun decide to open a company in 2009?
A. To compete with local souvenir shops. B. To expand batik’s use in tourist markets.
C. To mass-produce traditional costumes quickly. D. To replace ancient techniques with modern tools.
10. What can be inferred about Cai Qun’s philosophy regarding cultural heritage preservation?
A. She prioritizes commercial success over tradition.
B. She believes tradition and modernity can coexist.
C. She advocates for complete modernization of traditional crafts.
D. She believes government intervention is essential for survival.
11. Which best describes the attitude of Guizhou’s cultural authorities towards Cai Qun’s work?
A. Cautious approval with reservations. B. Passive acceptance without engagement.
C. Formal recognition with active support. D. Superficial interest with minimal action.
【答案】8. C 9. B 10. B 11. C

The next time you find yourself in a car, driving along a winding road, why not turn on a cheerful song? It might help you recover from car sickness. A team of researchers led by neuroscientist Yilun Li at China’s Henan Institute of Science and Technology has found music may be a surprisingly effective way to reduce travel-related discomfort and dizziness.
In the experiments, 30 volunteers used a machine that imitated (模仿) car driving, in which they were made to feel carsick while wearing an electroencephalograph (EEG) cap. This allowed researchers to “read” the volunteers’ brain activity in real time, as it changed from a stable state to one of carsickness, and gradually back again. Volunteers were divided into six groups. Four groups listened to a minute of music after the sick-making drive; one group listened to no music after the drive, and instead spend one minute meditating (冥想), that is, staying calm and focusing on their breathing; and one ended the drive right before volunteers were expected to feel discomfort.
The researchers found that joyful music reduced symptoms of carsickness by 14% compared to the group that meditated. Soft music was the next best type. It reduced symptoms by 13.4% compared to the meditation controls. It’s difficult to evaluate how significant these changes are, as the current experiments were grounded in a small group of people with limited statistical power. Even so, the results have found music can be powerful — changing the way we feel, for better or worse.
Previous studies have also shown that a favorite music can reduce symptoms of visually caused carsickness or “cybersickness” from virtual reality devices. But while some research suggests that sad music can improve mood and make us feel good, it’s possible that in some situations, it can have the opposite effect. Sad music may worsen discomfort through emotional connection, the authors suggest. In contrast, cheerful or relaxing music may help volunteers maintain a good physical state, thus improving their comfort.
12. What is the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph?
A. To give practical advice to drivers. B. To introduce a research discovery.
C. To explain a new scientific theory. D. To question an old common belief.
13. How did the researchers measure the volunteers’ brain activity?
A. By testing in a moving car. B. By playing different songs.
C. By observing their behavior. D. By using a special device.
14. What is one disadvantage of the experiments?
A. Random volunteer subjects. B. Limited music types.
C. Short experiment time. D. Small sample size.
15. What is implied about music’s effect on motion sickness?
A. Its effect relies on personal taste in music.
B. Its emotional types define its final effect.
C. It may produce unintended negative results.
D. It primarily addresses physical symptoms.
【答案】12. B 13. D 14. D 15. C

【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“It’s difficult to evaluate how significant these changes are, as the current experiments were grounded in a small group of people with limited statistical power. (由于当前的实验基于一小群人,统计功效有限,因此很难评估这些变化的显著性)”可知,实验的一个缺点是样本量小。故选D项。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“But while some research suggests that sad music can improve mood and make us feel good, it’s possible that in some situations, it can have the opposite effect. Sad music may worsen discomfort through emotional connection, the authors suggest. In contrast, cheerful or relaxing music may help volunteers maintain a good physical state, thus improving their comfort.(尽管有研究表明悲伤的音乐能够改善情绪、让人感觉良好,但作者指出,在某些情况下,它也可能适得其反。

Father’s Day was in two weeks. I didn’t know what to get Dad. Last year I made him a photo album. This year I wanted to do something different.
At dinner, Dad accidentally dropped his favorite blue tie into his soup bowl. The tie was ruined. I suddenly knew what to get Dad for Father’s Day!
“How much does a tie cost?” I asked Mom the next morning.
“Depends,” she said.“ Some can cost twenty dollars. Do you have enough money. Carter?”
“No, ” I said sadly.
When I got to my room to change into my school clothes I noticed a hole in my shirt.
“Mom, I need you to sew(缝补) my shirt, I said loudly, rushing out the door to the school bus.
At school I picked at the hole in my shirt. I thought about how I could come up with enough money to buy a tie. I took a deep sigh, and played with the hold some more. As the hole grew in size, an idea sprung into my mind.
After coming home from school, I dug through my closet trying to find other worn clothes.
“Mom! "I yelled down the hall heading towards her.
Can I cut these clothes up to make Dad a patchwork(拼缝) tie for Father’s Day?” I pointed out the holes to Mom.
“ I guess,” he said.
“And,” I added, “Can you show me how to sew and make tiny stitches(针脚)?”
“Yes, Carter. Let s start now before Dad gets home.” Mom said, heading for her sewing supplies.
I followed Moms instructions and started making a patchwork tie. I gently pressed my foot on the foot pedal(缝纫机脚踏板) . Suddenly, the needle stopped and the machine made a horrible sound. “No!” I said.
“Try again, Carter, ” Mom instructed.
I took a deep breath and gently applied the pedal again. Unluckily, I failed again.
注意:1. 续写词数为150左右。
2. 请在相应位置作答。
“Forget it! I can’t do this!” I cried and went to my room.

On Father’s Day I handed Dad a small box.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
“ Forget it! I cant do this!” I cried and went to my room. After sitting in my room for a while, I realized that if I wanted to give Dad a Father’s Day gift, I would have to learn to sew or at least keep trying. Every day after school, I would try, and try, and try. Finally, I was able to work the machine with Mom’s continued help. Although my first stitches were big and far apart, I grew better and better and my stitches finally became closer together and looked nice.
On Fathers Day I handed Dad a small box. He tore the wrapping paper off and opened the box. “Wow! This is great, Carter!” he said, holding up the patchwork tie. “I remember that shirt of yours,” Dad said, pointing out the patches. “Thank you very much.” Dad’s hug was big and warm. “I’ll be sure to take this off when I eat soup.” he said, and we both laughed.

D
