In a class where I teach adults, I gave the class homework! It was “to go to someone you love within the next week and tell them you love them. It has to be someone you have never said those words to before or at least haven’t shared those words with for a long time”.
Now that doesn’t sound like an impossible task, until you stop to realize that most of the students were over 35 years old. And for them showing feelings was hard. So this was a difficult task for some people.
At the beginning of our next class, I asked if anyone wanted to share what happened when they told someone they loved them. I thought one of the women would want to help as usual, but instead, one of the men raised his hand. He looked quite moved and a bit surprised.
As he stood up, he began saying, “Dennis, I was quite angry with you last week when you gave us this task. I didn’t feel that I had anyone to say those words to. But as I began driving home, my heart started talking to me. It was telling me that I knew exactly who I needed to say ‘I love you’ to.”
“Five years ago, I had a heated argument with my father, and we didn’t talk to each other unless we had to go to family gatherings. But even then, we hardly spoke to each other.”
“Last Tuesday by the time I got home, I had decided to tell my father I loved him.”

Construction (建筑)is one of the biggest users of energy and one of the biggest polluters. According to AI Magazine, construction is responsible for 38% of the world's energy use. The building part alone takes up almost 55% of final energy use and 33% of greenhouse gas emissions. It's also well known that steel production creates too much material waste in building construction.
Faced with this big challenge, the future of sustainable (可持续的) construction may lie with AI. AI is able to study building performance by grouping data to find the best chances for sustainable material use. With AI tools, the future of sustainable construction could progress much faster than in the past. Besides, AI helps architects (建筑师) work with new tools and sustainable materials to create better buildings and cities of the future for us. For example, construction 3D printing guided by AI can offer better choices for building materials to save money, and map out how construction materials could be recycled (回收利用).
In a professional article, AI is praised as a tool for sustainable construction, “In recent years, AI has become a promising tool for construction. AI can examine large datasets on weather conditions and help make full use of building systems for energy efficiency, water protection and other goals.”
AI can be used to speed up the development of sustainable construction and set standards for the industry, making construction more efficient and affordable. Like any other tool, AI is particularly good at studying datasets, but for the moment it still requires smart and ethical (有道德的) human beings to lead its work. All of this has to be done with respect for humans, so it's really up to us to make it work well in the building field.
26. How is Paragraph 1 developed?
A. By telling stories. B. By listing numbers. C. By expressing feelings. D. By making comparisons.
27. How can AI help architects?
A. Produce sustainable steel. B. Draw maps of dream cities.
C. Invent recyclable 3D printers. D. Choose sustainable materials.
28. What does the underlined phrase “map out” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Set up. B. Look for. C. Work out. D. Think about.
29. What does the writer suggest in the last paragraph?
A. It’s difficult to develop AI. B. It’s humans’ duty to guide AI.
C. Humans’ future depends on AI. D. Humans and AI should work together.
30. What is the purpose of writing this passage?
A. To show us AI helps sustainable construction.
B. To explain AI can recycle construction waste.
C. To warn us AI may take the place of architects.
D. To talk about AI speeds up sustainable development.

In the fight against waste, a small insect is making a big difference. The black soldier fly (黑水虻)is environmentally friendly and can turn kitchen waste into useful things.
These special insects are already at work in Shenzhen, Guangdong. For example, at the Vanke Centre, kitchen waste from the dining halls is collected and taken to a small nearby room called the Black Soldier Fly Station. After some simple processing (处理), it becomes food for black soldier flies, which can eat around 200 kg a day. Amazingly, they can eat up to 200,000 times their own body weight in just 7 to 9 days. This process greatly cuts down on waste.
However, black soldier flies are not just waste-eating machines. They also create valuable products. Their bodies provide rich insect protein (蛋白质), perfect for fish and animal feed, and their waste serves as natural food for flowers and vegetables in the community park.
А “5G+ robot” project for black soldier flies can be found in the Yantian District, Shenzhen. This project makes waste treatment faster and more efficient. Here, the smart “dark factory” runs almost completely with robots in the dark. Huge robotic arms add tens of thousands of black soldier flies to process kitchen waste. In five days, the insects eat everything up. This high-tech factory can process about 15 tons of kitchen waste every day, helping the district turn all its kitchen waste into insect protein.
This creative method shows a bright future. By using nature’s own recyclers like the black soldier fly, we can cut down on waste, save costs, and move towards a greener way of life. It also sets a good example for other cities to follow in environmental protection.
( ) 31. What does the underlined word “they” refer to in Paragraph 2?
A.The black soldier flies. B. The fish at the Vanke Centre.
C. The workers in the dining halls. D. The animals in the community park.
( ) 32. What are the black soldier flies at the Vanke Centre used for?
①Eating kitchen waste. ②Feeding fish and animals.
③Cleaning the dining halls. ④Serving as natural food for plants.
A.①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①③④ D. ①②④
( ) 33. Which of the following is an opinion according to the passage?
A. There is a “5G + robot” project in the Yantian District.
B. This method shows a bright future for environmental protection.
C. Black soldier flies can eat around 200 kg of kitchen waste a day.
D. The factory can process about 15 tons of kitchen waste every day.
( ) 34. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?(①-Paragraph 1, ...)
A. ①-②③④⑤ B. ①②③④-⑤ C. ①-②③-④-⑤ D. ①-②-③④-⑤
( ) 35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Small insect, big help B. Dark factory, green city
C. Smart robots, creative method D. Amazing project, useful products

And experts say reading can add words to our vocabulary, and show us how words and grammar are used in different situations.
Teachers often divide reading into two types: extensive reading and intensive reading (泛读和精读). The goal of extensive reading is enjoyment, so it doesn’t matter if you don’t understand every word. __39______ Intensive reading is often led by teachers. 第二节 简答题(共5小题;每小题2分;满分10分)
请阅读以下短文,并根据短文内容用一句话简要回答以下问题。
Travelling to the Moon has long been a dream for many people. Have you dreamt about a trip to the Moon? Today, let’s follow Georges Méliès, a movie maker, to learn about his idea for a “trip” to the Moon.
In 1902, the movie A Trip to the Moon by Georges Méliès came out. It has an important place in the history of moviemaking. Many people think of it as the first science fiction movie. The movie follows a group of scientists who travel to the Moon. When they are learning about the Moon, they get into trouble. A group of aliens catch them. Luckily, they escape and finally find their way home. The movie is only about 14 minutes long, but it amazed audiences all over the world at that time.
Georges Méliès got the idea for the movie from two books, From the Earth to the Moon and The First Men in the Moon. Now, as we have learnt many things about the Moon, we know that some things in the movie are not right. For example, the Moon in the movie appears to have the same gravity as the Earth. It seems that the scientists don’t need any spacesuits and can walk around on the Moon easily.
It is clear to see that A Trip to the Moon is not scientifically true. Today, even with the things we know, movie makers are still “breaking the rules of science” and letting their minds run free. Science fiction movies are wonderful because they allow us to learn about and test people's understanding and imagination of science. Maybe one day, the things in the movies will come true.

【范文】
A day as a volunteer
Doing voluntary work is not only meaningful but also brings me much happiness. Last Saturday, I went to a center for children with hearing problems in Guangzhou.
To communicate better with the kids, I first learnt some simple body language. We connected through gestures and warm smiles. Then, I taught them paper-cutting. It was difficult for them at first, but they learned quickly later. Then, we played a game about space by using pictures. Finally, I helped them make model planets with colorful clay (黏土).
From this experience, I learnt that love can bridge any gap. Volunteering truly makes a difference! I hope to help more people in the future.
