A
Hopping Around the World
Hopscotch is a very old game. It usually uses a puck, such as a stone, and a pattern that players hop through. Here are different versions to play.
Scotch-Hoppers Children in England and Scotland play this game with a stone or a coin. Throw the stone into Box 1. Hop over Box 1 and through the pattern. On the way back, hop into Box 1, pick up the stone, and hop out. Then, toss the puck into Box 2, and so on. If your 8 stone enters the wrong box, start over! The first player to throw the stone into each box and hop through the whole pattern wins.
Escargot Escargot is the French word for “snail”. For this game, the pattern looks like a snail. No puck is used. Players hop through the pattern on one foot. You may rest in the center on both feet. After resting, hop back through the pattern and out. If you finish the pattern without stepping on a line, write your name in a space. No other player may land in that space. At the end, the player who owns the most spaces wins.
La Thunkuna Children play this game in Bolivia, a country in South America. The puck is a stone or the peel from an orange. Instead of writing a number in each square, players write each day of the week. Throw the puck into the first box. Hop over it into the second box. Next, kick the puck backwards and out of the pattern. Then, hop out. On your next turn, throw the puck into the next space, and so on. The first player to hop all the way through wins.
Gat Fei Gei In this Chinese version of hopscotch, the puck is a piece of roof tile. At the top is the pig’s head. Toss the puck into the pig’s head and hop through the pattern. When you reach boxes 7and 8, spin around and pick up the puck from behind. If you hop through the pattern without making a mistake, pick a box and write your name in it. No one else can land in that box! The player who owns the most boxes wins.
21. What makes Escargot different from other hopscotch games?
A. It has no fixed pattern B. Players cannot rest during the game
C. It doesn’t need any puck D. It is played only by French adults
22. In which game will players see days of the week on squares?
A. Scotch-Hoppers B. Escargot C. La Thunkuna D. Gat Fei Gei
23. What is the main idea of the whole text?
A. Various rules of hopscotch around the world B. The long history of the old game hopscotch
C. Different winning ways of simple games D. Popular traditional games in four countries
C 22. C 23. A

B
In February 2022, I began learning Chinese. Almost a year later, I found myself in Beijing, the capital of China. Before coming here, I had attended Chinese classes, and I could sense my progress in the language, albeit modest. As you might expect, studying for just one year wasn’t sufficient to claim fluency, and to be honest, I’m not there yet. But full proficiency in the language is not necessary to immerse yourself in and enjoy many attractions of life in China.
The one thing that truly makes me feel comfortable and alleviates loneliness is making friends and engaging in conversation. At Tsinghua University, where I pursued my studies in China, I made friends with many Chinese young people and relished spending time with them, be it for meals or leisure activities. I’ve been delighted to sing Chinese songs, for example, those by the famous Chinese singer Jay Chou, with my friends. I would also sing well-known Japanese songs, such as Lemon, which, as it turns out, is very popular in China. I felt that connecting with my Chinese peers through a shared passion, such as singing, was incredibly enjoyable and beautiful. It transcended language barriers and fostered a sense of unity and joy that was truly special.
During breaks from study, I frequently embarked on solo journeys across China. Although I have experienced traveling on overnight trains for over 12 hours several times and explored unfamiliar cities, I never felt fearful or unwelcome as a foreigner. Chinese people are consistently warm and welcome to foreigners, and eager to engage in conversation.
I once participated in community activities in Northwest China’s Gansu province to gain a deeper understanding of China’s rural areas and contribute to the development of local communities and education. As a volunteer teacher at a local school, I shared contemporary and traditional Japanese culture such as anime, architecture, pop music and languages with the students. Since Japanese kanji originated in China, there are many similarities between the Japanese and Chinese languages.
24. What is necessary for the author to enjoy attractions of life in China?
A. Having proficiency in Chinese. B. Befriending with foreign tourists.
C. Setting out on solo journeys alone. D. Communicating with Chinese locals.
25. What does the underlined word “relished” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Advocated. B. Enjoyed. C. Postponed. D. Avoided.
26. How did the author develop the text?
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples.
C. By making comparison. D. By setting questions.
27. What is the author’s impression of Chinese people?
A. Hospitable. B. Cautious. C. Punctual. D. Smart.
D 25. B 26. B 27. A
根据第二段“The one thing that truly makes me feel comfortable and alleviates loneliness is making friends and engaging in conversation.(真正让我感到舒适和减轻孤独的一件事是交朋友和参与交谈)”可知,与中国当地人交流是作者享受中国生活的必要条件。
根据划线词上文“I made friends with many Chinese young people and”以及后文“spending time with them, be it for meals or leisure activities.”
根据第二段“I’ve been delighted to sing Chinese songs, for example, those by the famous Chinese singer Jay Chou, with my friends. I would also sing well-known Japanese songs, such as Lemon, which, as it turns out, is very popular in China. (我很高兴和我的朋友们一起唱中国歌曲,例如,中国著名歌手周杰伦的歌曲。我也会唱一些著名的日本歌曲,比如柠檬,这首歌在中国很受欢迎)”以及最后一段“As a volunteer teacher at a local school, I shared contemporary and traditional Japanese culture such as anime, architecture, pop music and languages with the students.(作为当地一所学校的志愿者教师,我与学生们分享了日本的当代和传统文化,如动漫、建筑、流行音乐和语言)”可推知,作者通过举例展开这篇文章。
根据倒数第二段“Chinese people are consistently warm and welcome to foreigners, and eager to engage in conversation.(中国人一贯热情欢迎外国人,并渴望与他们交谈)”可知,作者对中国人的印象是好客。故选A。
C
The start of a new year is often seen as a chance for personal change. But many people today feel less motivated than before. With mental wellness declining, especially among young people, imagining change can be hard. My research focuses on “possibility thinking”— how people see what could be different and feel able to act. A 2024 study found that these elements need to support each other. When people see opportunities but feel unable to act, or feel motivated but can’t imagine alternatives, real change is difficult.
In a 2025 study, teachers learned their school would be torn down and they had to move. Most felt tired, not excited. This shows how unfair or unsupported changes make people resist new beginnings. Decades of research show that motivation is shaped by context. Time pressure, financial stress, and daily responsibilities all limit what people can change, no matter how strong their intentions are. Instead of aiming for big changes, it’s more realistic to ask what small shifts are possible. For example, someone with limited time might try a 10-minute daily walk and adjust it based on what works.
Research also shows that shared responsibility helps sustain change. A family might agree to eat more home-cooked meals, with each person taking on a small task. That way, change is carried by the group, not just one person. In a world full of uncertainty, we can’t rely on “starting fresh” to find new energy. Instead, we can renew ourselves by thinking in new ways — together with others, within our limits, and with hope for small but positive changes.
28. What is necessary for “possibility thinking” to work well?
A. Support among its key parts.
B. Exploration of new things.
C. Confidence in one’s ability to act.
D. Strong personal motivation.
29. Why does the author mention the study of teachers moving to a new school?
A. To show why people resist new beginnings.
B. To explain how people adapt to sudden changes.
C. To explore what encourages people to start over.
D. To show how unjust changes kill the desire for a fresh start.
30. What have decades of studies found about changes?
A. It depends mainly on willpower.
B. Shared goals are harder to achieve.
C. It is affected by one’s environment.
D. Financial pressure is the biggest obstacle.
31. What does the author suggest for making changes in the last paragraph?
A. Keeping learning to stay motivated.
B. Making small changes within your limits.
C. Relying on others to support your goals.
D. Aiming for big changes by ignoring limits.
A 29. D 30. C 31. B
根据第一段“A 2024 study found that these elements need to support each other. When people see opportunities but feel unable to act, or feel motivated but can’t imagine alternatives, real change is difficult.(2024年的一项研究发现,这些要素需要相互支持。当人们看到机会但觉得无法行动,或者有动力但无法想象其他选择时,真正的改变就很难实现)”可知,“可能性思维”要良好发挥作用,其关键部分之间的相互支持是必要的。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“In a 2025 study, teachers learned their school would be torn down and they had to move. Most felt tired, not excited. This shows how unfair or unsupported changes make people resist new beginnings.(在 2025 年的一项研究中,老师们得知所在学校将要拆除,他们必须搬迁。大多数人感到身心疲惫,毫无欣喜之感。这表明不公平或无支持的改变是如何使人们抗拒新起点的)”可知,作者提到教师搬到新学校的研究,是为了说明不公平的改变会扼杀人们对新起点的渴望。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Decades of research show that motivation is shaped by context. Time pressure, financial stress, and daily responsibilities all limit what people can change, no matter how strong their intentions are.(数十年的研究表明,动机是由环境塑造的。时间压力、经济压力和日常责任都限制了人们能做出的改变,无论他们的意愿有多强烈)”可知,数十年的研究发现改变受个人所处环境的影响。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Instead, we can renew ourselves by thinking in new ways — together with others, within our limits, and with hope for small but positive changes.(相反,我们可以通过新的思维方式来自我更新——与他人一起,在我们的能力范围内,并对微小但积极的改变抱有希望)”可知,作者在最后一段建议在自身能力范围内进行小改变。
D
A French auctioneer (拍卖人) sold a 200-year-old violin bow (弓) made by French Xavier Tourte, regarded as the Antonio Stradivari of bow-making, for a record €76,000. Tourte was among the first to keep using a raw material that is still prized today for the best bows: pernambuco, or brazilwood.
A modern orchestra (管弦乐团) is a group of dancing brazilwood sticks (木棍). And that’s a problem. Cutting down, growth of cities and farms have greatly reduced Brazil’s Atlantic forest, where the tree grows, to an eighth of its former area. The number of wild trees has dropped by four fifths in less than a century. As a result, CITES, an international agreement, has limited trade in brazilwood products since 2007.
But Brazil’s government wants CITES to list the trees among the most endangered species, giving them the highest protection. A CITES meeting in Samarkand that starts on November 24th will decide whether to do so. The proposal has spooked those working on Tourte’s bows and the musicians who depend on them. Lovers of art and lovers of nature are often soulmates, but brazilwood is driving them apart.
The protection upgrade Brazil wants would make life difficult for them and for musicians. Any bow, even one of Tourte’s, would require papers to go from Brazil to other countries. Workers are still cutting down brazilwood trees illegally to supply the bow-making industry, Brazil’s environmental department says.
However, it can be possible to save both brazilwood and bows. Around 3 million trees have been planted since the early 1970s, some with the help of bow-makers. Some of these could be harvested after 30-40 years of growth to make bows as the existing supplies of brazilwood run out. Wild trees need better protection, and governments and musicians can do better at registering existing supplies of brazilwood and keeping track of bows. If that can happen, there is a chance to save an invaluable tree without silencing the music.
32. Why is the use of brazilwood in modern orchestras a problem?
A. Brazilwood bows are too expensive. B. Too many brazilwood sticks are wasted.
C. Brazilwood trees have become much fewer. D. CITES has completely stopped brazilwood trading.
33. What can we know about CITES from Paragraph 3?
A. It will stop all trade of brazilwood products soon. B. It has the right to decide the protection level of plants.
C. It mainly helps musicians protect their old violin bows. D. It plans to plant more brazilwood trees in Brazil.
34. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. It is key to prevent brazilwood trees from disappearing.
B. Proper measures can make brazilwood and bows coexist.
C. Low-cost materials for making bows are highly demanded.
D. There are enough wild brazilwood trees for bow-making now.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. The History of Violin Bow-Making
B. The Environmental Value of Brazilwood
C. The Tension Between Valuable Wood and Bow-Making
D. The Efforts Made by CITES to Protect Endangered Species
C 33. B 34. B 35. C
根据第二段“Cutting down, urban expansion and farming have greatly reduced Brazil’s Atlantic forest, where the tree grows, to an eighth of its former area. The number of wild trees has dropped by four fifths in less than a century. As a result, CITES, an international agreement, has limited trade in brazilwood products since 2007.(砍伐、城市扩张和农业发展已使巴西大西洋森林(巴西苏木生长的地方)面积大幅减少,仅为原来的八分之一。在不到一个世纪的时间里,野生树木数量减少了五分之四。因此,自2007年起,国际协议CITES限制了巴西苏木产品的贸易)”可知,现代管弦乐团使用巴西苏木成为问题的原因是巴西苏木树数量急剧减少。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“A CITES meeting in Samarkand that starts on November 24th will decide whether to do so.(11月24日在撒马尔罕召开的CITES会议将决定是否将巴西红木列为最高保护级别)”可知,CITES有权决定植物的保护等级。
根据最后一段“However, it can be possible to save both brazilwood and bows. Around 3 million trees have been planted since the early 1970s, some with the help of bow-makers. Some of these could be harvested after 30-40 years of growth to make bows as the existing supplies of brazilwood run out. Wild trees need better protection, and governments and musicians can do better at registering existing supplies of brazilwood and keeping track of bows.(然而,拯救巴西苏木和小提琴弓是有可能的。
During puberty (青春期), your body goes through many changes, and you start forming a body image — how you see, think, and feel about your body’s size, shape, and weight, or specific features like your nose. ____36____ For instance, you may believe your nose is too big or too small, even though it looks perfectly normal.
____37____ One major influence is peer (同龄人) pressure. Your friends might make casual jokes about your appearance, or you might compare yourself to them and feel they look better. Such experiences can harm the way you view yourself. Another powerful influence is the media, which often promotes a narrow, ideal body type. For example, if fair skin is portrayed as beautiful, you may feel insecure if you don’t match that ideal.
Developing a negative body image can lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as extreme dieting, overexercising, or even risky plastic surgeries. ___38___ When you focus too much on appearance, you may forget to appreciate other great things about yourself, such as your talents and personality.
To build a positive body image, it’s essential to remember that no perfect body exists, as beauty standards are always changing. Models and celebrities may appear flawless in the media, but much of their appearance is due to makeup, angles, lighting, and editing. _____39_____
Rather than focusing on appearances, value people for their true selves. By surrounding yourself with positive influences and avoiding comments on looks, you can redirect your attention from self-criticism. ____40____ Over time, you’ll build inner confidence and develop a healthier, more accepting relationship with your body.
A. Many factors shape your body image.
B. It also lowers your overall life satisfaction.
C. However, your true beauty lies within your heart.
D. External judgement can be a double-edged sword.
E. Without these tricks, they are just as “imperfect” as everyone else.
F. Surprisingly, body image is shaped more by your thoughts than by reality.
G. This shift enables you to recognize and celebrate your talents and strengths.
F 37. A 38. B 39. E 40. G

For example, if fair skin is portrayed as beautiful, you may feel insecure if you don’t match that ideal.(一个主要的影响因素是同伴的压力。 故选A。

由上文“Models and celebrities may appear flawless in the media, but much of their appearance is due to makeup, angles, lighting, and editing.(模特和名人在媒体上可能看起来完美无瑕,但他们的外表很大程度上要归功于化妆、角度、灯光和编辑)”可知,本空应进一步说明没有这些因素时他们的真实情况。

By surrounding yourself with positive influences and avoiding comments on looks, you can redirect your attention from self-criticism.(与其关注外表,不如看重人的真实自我。

An over 600-year-old Ming Dynasty banknote与hide之间是被动关系,所以用过去分词作主语补足语,故填hidden。
此处表示对过去发生的事情不太确定的推测,用may have done,故填have placed。
replace sth. with sth.
be estimated to be是固定搭配,意为“估计是……”,故填to be。

No one had ever mistaken Jake for a model student. At 17, he was known for skipping classes, staying out late, and pushing almost everyone away. Teachers sighed at his attitude; his parents worried endlessly. Deep down, Jake hated who he’d become — but he didn’t know how to change.
One icy November afternoon, Jake cut school again and wandered into a quiet, old library downtown. He planned to hide there until his parents calmed down. But as he stepped inside, he noticed an elderly woman sitting alone at a wooden table, surrounded by piles of books. Her hands trembled as she tried to reach a thick dictionary on the highest shelf.
Without thinking, Jake walked over and held out the book. The woman looked up, surprised, but her eyes softened immediately. “Thank you, young man,” she said gently. “No one has offered to help me in days.”
Her name was Mrs. Henderson, and she came to the library every week to organize old books for children who couldn’t afford new ones. She had once been a teacher, but now she lived alone and struggled with weak knees and poor eyesight. Still, she refused to stop volunteering. “Kindness is like a light,” she told Jake. “Even the smallest spark can brighten someone’s darkest days.”
Jake listened, speechless. For the first time in years, someone spoke to him like a person, not a troublemaker. He stayed and helped her carry books, sort pages, and reach high shelves. When he left, Mrs. Henderson pressed a small, handmade card into his hand. It read: You have a kind heart. Don’t ever let anyone make you forget that.
That night, Jake lay awake for hours. The card burned in his pocket, and Mrs. Henderson’s words echoed in his mind. For the first time, he wanted to be better — not for his parents or teachers, but for himself.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 词左右;
The next afternoon, Jake returned to the library with a single purpose in his heart.

Paragraph 1:
The next afternoon, Jake returned to the library with a single purpose in his heart. He walked straight to Mrs. Henderson and offered to help with her daily work. He carried heavy boxes of books, arranged shelves neatly, and even read stories aloud to young children who came to the library. Mrs. Henderson watched him with warm, proud eyes, saying nothing but smiling gently. In that quiet space, Jake felt a sense of peace and belonging he had never known before.
Paragraph 2:
From that day on, everything in Jake’s life began to change. He stopped skipping classes and started working hard at school. He made amends with his parents and even volunteered at the library every weekend. The tiny card Mrs. Henderson gave him remained on his desk, a gentle reminder of his true self. Jake finally realized that kindness was not just about helping others — it was the key to saving himself.
Paragraph 1
The next afternoon, Jake returned to the library with a single purpose in his heart. He pushed open the library door carefully, the smell of old books and warm light welcoming him. Seeing Mrs. Henderson struggling to lift a heavy box, he rushed forward immediately and held it steadily. He sorted the worn books gently, placed them on the right shelves and even helped clean the dusty tables. Whenever Mrs. Henderson praised him, a faint but sincere smile appeared on his face. For the first time, he felt needed and valued, as if a long-lost light had shone back into his life.
Paragraph 2
From that day on, everything in Jake’s life began to change. He stopped wandering the streets and started attending classes attentively, taking notes carefully and asking questions bravely. He apologized to his parents sincerely and communicated with them patiently instead of shutting them out. The handmade card was placed on his desk, reminding him every day of the kindness that had saved him. Jake finally realized that everyone could make a fresh start, and that a single warm word or small act could turn a dark life around completely.

A
Hopping Around the World
Hopscotch is a very old game.

A. Hospitable. B. Cautious. C. Punctual. D. Smart.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 词左右;

The next afternoon, Jake returned to the library with a single purpose in his heart.
