第一节:Dear Jack,
How are you doing ? Knowing that you are a lover of traditional Chinese painting,
I am writing to tell you something about the Traditional Chinese Painting Exhibition held in our school.
As scheduled, the event took place on April 20th in our school hall. Some experts were present and gave lectures on some well-known artists, through which we had a better
understanding of traditional Chinese painting. Some paintings made by students were on display, which feasted our eyes. Every student present could feel the beauty of the traditional
Chinese painting and benefit a lot from the activity.
Hope you can join us next year.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节:Paragraph 1:
First, he made advertisements. Then, he put them up in the neighborhood. Attracted, some parents invited him home. After an interview, they were content with Andy's teaching
ability and hired him. Thus, Andy's schedule became so tight that he often didn't get home until dinnertime. Andy kept it a secret from his mom. Finally,he was amazed he earned enough money. He immediately bought a hearing aid for his mother and
studied the instructions.
Paragraph 2:
One morning when Mary was still sleeping soundly,Andy put the hearing aid in her ear. Mary awakened to the sounds of birds’ singing and car horns.“Morning,Mom, ” Andy said.
Mary turned, finding Andy was sitting nearby, smiling.“Is there a hearing aid?”she asked in disbelief.Andy nodded and asked, “How does it feel?”Mary replied that it was
incredible, with tears rolling down her cheeks. She was relieved that her son loved her so much.

The Well That Changed the World
As a six-ycar-old Canadian schoolboy,Ryan had trouble believing the words spoken by his teacher that many
people in developing African countries couldn't get enough clean water. He looked across the classroom at the
drinking fountain. It was very close-only ten steps away. So,Ryan asked himself,"Why do some African
children have to walk ten kilometers to get water every day?And wby is the water so dirty that it makes them sick?"
Young Ryan thought."Life is easy for me,but hard for those people. Why don't I help?"
At first, his plan was to eam money to build a single well somewhere in Africa. He clcancd windows and did
gardening for his family and neighbors. He soon reached his first target of S70,but when he gave the money to a
charity,he was told that it actually cost S2,000 to build a well Seventy dollars was only enough for a hand pump.
Ryan understood that a hand pump wouldn't help the children. What they necded wasa well dug near their homes.
Two thousand dollars was a lot of money, but Ryan didn't give up.He was detemmined to help other children
have clean water. He started to ask for help from his classmates and neighbors and persuaded them to donate money.
At the same timc,a fricnd of Ryan's mother helped make his story go public".Afierseveral months,
Ryan had
raisod the S2,000,with which a well was built near a primary school in Uganda. The children at the school no
longer neoded to walk for hours to get water. They were grateful to him and invited him to visit.
In Uganda,Ryan at last saw the finished well with his own eyes. But that was not all He also saw hundreds
of delighted students who had tumed out to welcome him. They sang and danced happily. Some even offered him
food and gifis. At first Ryan was nervous, but soon a great warmth filled him He really had made a difference for
these children. He broke into a joyful smile.

life-changing gift ofclcan.safe water.
Now,as anadult,Ryan says that the question to ask is not"Why don't I help?",but"How can I help today?
"This insight grew from the determined attitude of a six-ycar-old boy who had the courage and perseverance to
make his dream a reality.

Dear Agony Aunt,
I'm in a total mess here-hope you can help me out!
I m 17,and a member ofour school basketball team.I m cnzy about basketball, and pretty good at it too,
靠
which is probably why I was so mad when we lost our last match. We played well, but I felt the team were let down
试卷第3页
by one member, our point guard. The point guard is a key player, but it was like he wasn't even on the court!
Disappointed by his behaviour,I said all this to my best friend.I was just letting off'steam really, because I wasso
angry, but then my friend went and told everyone clse what I'd said.
This is so totally awkward.I m really angry with my friend what should I say to him?And should I say anything
at all to my teammate?
Embarrassed and ashamed I can't concentrate on anything. Please help!
Dear Ben,
There is an old American saying,"Loose lips sink ships."This means that if you speak too much about
something, especially to people who you don't know so well,it'll cause all kinds of trouble.
The situation here is so much worse because the"loose lips"were your best friend's.Treated this way, you're
sure to foel hurt-we should always be able to trust those closest to us,and it hurts even more when we find we
can't.
But I have to say that it's partly your fauht isn't it?You admit that you were"letting off steam"It is
understandable in that situation.but we should always think before we speak.
Here's what you need to do.First, apologize to your teammate. If you ever want to win any more basketball
games(and I m sure you do!),you need to work together, and that means communicating with each other clearly
and resolving conflicts. So have a chat with your tcammate.Tell him directly and honestly that you were talking
without thinking.
Then.talk to your friend.Friendship should be onc of the greatest things in the world.but sometimes it can be
diflicult.Again, your strategy is clear communication.Tell your friend you're angry with him for repcating what
you said and making the situation worse, but that you want to move on.Approached in this way.your friendship
will soon be repaired.
Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, think about your own behaviour.Don't say too much when you're
angry!Filled with anger, you tend to say whatever comes to your mind. This gives poople the wrong signal.Take a
deep breath.calm down,and always remember:think first,speak later.If you feel one ofyour teammates isn't
pulling their weightthen raise your concems in a profossional way with your tcam coach.
If you think about other people's feelings as well as your own, you'll soon find everything works out.
28.Why did Ben's team lose the match?
A.The opponents were too strong
B.The point guard perfommed badly

29.What put Ben in an awkward situation?
A.His letting off steam.
B.His tcam's losing the match.
C.His not concentrating on studying.
D.His best friend's telling what he said to others.

A.An old man often helps those in trouble.
B.What you say may cause a temible result
C.People admire Tom for his brave behaviour.
D.A young man talks to others in a polite manner.
31.What is the passage mainly abour?
