I have never been competitive, never winning or truly entering a single competition. My best friend, Amy, however, is another story. She always takes first place in all her swimming competitions. We’ve been friends for ten years, and her energy and bright smile still warm me.
I sat in the front row of the stadium, feeling certain Amy would win the Olympic final.
I had seen her exhausting daily training and extra hours spent in the pool. Her coach and mother sat beside me, as nervous as I was. The race was intense (激烈的). Amy was behind at first, and then she caught up, touching the wall just before her rival (对手). The crowd cheered, and I smiled with pride.
“What does winning feel like?” I asked that night. “Relief,” she said. “Before every competition, I feel like a string (弦) pulled too tight. I train harder and harder just to silence the voice telling me I’m not good enough. After it’s over, the string breaks. At least the pain stops.” Swimming, once her joy, had become pressure, so she decided to quit (停止).
I was shocked. She said she had thought about it for a long time and only needed my support, because she knew her mother and coach would be angry, which turned out to be true.
I realized we only saw champions’ medals, not their pressure. Some reach the top but only want a different life.
Even if Amy chooses an ordinary path, she’ll always be special to me.
3. Why did the writer believe Amy would win the gold medal this time?
A. Because Amy had a great talent for swimming.
B. Because Amy was always full of energy in races.
C. Because Amy made long-term efforts before the race.
4. How did Amy feel before every competition?
A. Excited. B. Sad. C. Nervous.
5. Which of the following words can best describe Amy?
A. Outgoing and humorous. B. Hard-working and stressed. C. Talented and confident.
6. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
B. Where there is a will, there is a way.
C. Success depends on personal happiness.
C 4. C 5. B 6. C
根据第三段第一句“I had seen her exhausting daily training and extra hours spent in the pool.”
根据第四段中Amy的回答“Before every competition, I feel like a string (弦) pulled too tight.”
通读全文,Amy为了比赛进行“exhausting daily training”,说明她是努力的;同时她感到“like a string pulled too tight”以及“Swimming... had become pressure”,说明她是有压力的。
文章倒数第二段点明了主旨:“I realized we only saw champions’ medals, not their pressure. Some reach the top but only want a different life.”
C
In the old libraries of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, Zhang Wei, a young computer student, made an exciting discovery. Since 2020, over 50,000 ancient papers had been digitized into computers. When studying them, Zhang noticed that 30% of the papers had special marks that no one could understand. These marks came from old languages once used along the Silk Road.
This inspired Zhang to create “SilkRoad AI”—a computer program that combines language studies with AI technology to decode ancient writing. Her idea came from studying stone markers in Xi’an, which showed the same meaning in Chinese and two other ancient languages. Her AI studied the marks and tried to find their meanings. After months of work, it correctly understood 82% of the unknown marks.
However, some experts expressed different opinions. Professor Li from Beijing University said, “Computers cannot truly understand the hidden stories behind ancient writings.”
In 2023, Zhang’s team tested their AI program at an international meeting. They used it to read a 1,200-year-old medical book from an ancient kingdom. The AI program translated plant names and found 17 kinds still used in traditional Chinese medicine today. Scientists compared the results with modern records and found them correct. This success helped Zhang get support from UNESCO to protect dying local languages.
Now Zhang is working with the British Museum on ancient Indian writing. Her AI program has helped experts understand 4,000-year-old business records. Her latest invention uses phone cameras — when visitors point their phones at broken paintings, they can see repaired pictures with explanations translated by computers.
“We are not just solving word puzzles (谜),” Zhang says, “We are helping people from different times and places communicate again.”
7. What does the underlined word “digitized” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Changed into a digital form.
B. Written down by hand carefully.
C. Repaired and made to look new.
8. What is Professor Li’s attitude towards using AI to understand ancient writings?
A. Doubtful. B. Unclear. C. Supportive.
9. What did the AI program do during the test in 2023?
A. It repaired damaged ancient paintings.
B. It translated plant names in an old medical book.
C. It created a new medical book for scientists.
10. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How important protecting ancient languages is.
B. How experts study traditional plant medicine.
C. How AI helps people understand old writings.
A 8. A 9. B 10. C
根据原文“Since 2020, over 50,000 ancient papers had been digitized into computers.”
根据原文第三段“Professor Li from Beijing University said, ‘Computers cannot truly understand the hidden stories behind ancient writings.’”
根据原文第四段“In 2023, Zhang’s team tested their AI program… The AI program translated plant names and found 17 kinds still used in traditional Chinese medicine today.”

前文提到“being unconscious(无意识的)”,对应的动作是woke up“醒来”;found out“查明”、brought back“带回”均与昏迷状态的语境无关。

Did you enjoy playing in nature when you were a kid? Linda did. Growing up on a farm, she loved making little gardens for baby animals. She still does the same thing, but now it’s much bigger — she works as a landscape architect (设计师), turning her childhood love into her life work.
So, what do landscape architects do? Think of it this way — building architects design the buildings and landscape architects design everything around the buildings.
Linda loved nature when she was little. But she didn’t know this could be a job until she was 12 years old. One day, a neighbor showed her a copy of Landscape Architecture and said, “You can go to college for this.” And that changed her life.
Now, Linda has a big goal. She wants to use her designs to fight climate change and protect the environment. She plans to do this by using less energy and creating less pollution. For example, she designs parks and puts many trees in certain areas. She also reshapes the land near water to help stop floods as sea levels rise.
What steps can you take to follow her example? You can start small. Linda suggests taking classes in biology and art, or even just planting flowers in your neighborhood to help bees and birds. All these small actions add up. And you can help protect nature through your everyday work.
36. What did Linda like to do for baby animals on the farm?
______________________________________________
37. Do landscape architects design buildings?
______________________________________________
38. When did Linda learn that loving nature could be a job?
______________________________________________
39. How will Linda achieve her big goal?
______________________________________________
40. What do you usually do to help protect our environment?

41. 范文:
Make Changsha a Better Place
Changsha is a beautiful city with a long history. But it still has some small problems to improve.
Now there are not enough green plants, so the air is not fresh sometimes. We can solve this by planting more trees and flowers, and taking buses or riding bikes more often to cut pollution. Besides, neighbors seldom talk with each other and there are few interesting community activities. We can greet our neighbors warmly, and communities can hold more fun activities like small parties or sports games.
Small actions can make a big difference. Let’s work together to make Changsha better.
