Summer presents a collection of festivals that combine fun, charity, and awareness. Here are four special celebrations happening in June:
National Go Barefoot Day (June 1)
Established after the 2004 tsunami, this day promotes barefoot walking for health benefits like stronger muscles while supporting Soles4Souls, a non-profit that has provided 19 million shoes globally. You can join barefoot activities or organize shoe collections. By simply taking off your shoes, you can improve your own health while helping children get the shoes they need.
World Oceans Day (June 8)
Oceans cover 66% of Earth and provide 50% of our oxygen, yet 8 million tons of plastic waste pollute them yearly. This day honors the ocean’s irreplaceable roles while inspiring worldwide participation. People can get involved by cleaning beaches, reducing single-use plastics, and watching educational films — turning awareness into action for a healthier planet.
Be a Kid Again Day (June 12)
This lighthearted day encourages adults to relive childhood joys — whether sliding down playground slides, building sandcastles, or rewatching classic kids’ movies. Beyond personal enjoyment, the celebration also supports meaningful causes like A Kid Again, a US non-profit organization that provides fun-filled adventures for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Helen Keller Day (June 27)
Held every year on June 27, this day honors Helen Keller (1880-1968) who became the first person with her disabilities to earn a college degree and wrote 12 books. While celebrating her amazing life, the day also recognizes all those who support the blind and deaf community through events like charity fashion shows and public readings of Keller’s inspirational works.
21. Which festival combines physical health with caring for children?
A. Be a Kid Again Day. B. Helen Keller Day.
C. National Go Barefoot Day. D. World Oceans Day.
22. Who benefit most from the organization A Kid Again?

Jesse Blasi farms wheat(小麦) in Pratt, Kansas. He has worked the land for more than 20 years. Jesse and his wife, Sarah, met while they were students at Kansas State University. They have two daughters, Reagan, who is 14 and Avery, who is 12.
As their 20th wedding anniversary(结婚纪念日) got closer, Jesse wanted to do something special. He remembered how another farmer in his area, Lee Wilson, had planted sunflowers for his wife two years before. “I wanted to do something similar,” Jesse said.
Jesse started planning back in October. He used his John Deere air seeder (播种机) and special farming methods to plant two different types of wheat — white and red. Jesse used more than 65 million red wheat seeds to spell out his message.
Keeping this secret was hard work. Other farmers in the area kept calling Jesse to ask about what he was doing in his field. But Jesse kept quiet about his surprise.
When the wheat grew tall enough to show the message, Jesse took Sarah up in a small airplane. From the sky, Sarah could see “Jesse + Sarah 20 Years” written across their field. The message covered half a mile wide and stretched one mile long. Sarah was almost crying when she saw what her husband had done. “That’s Jesse Blasi’s love. That’s a farmer’s love right there,” Sarah said.
The wheat message will stay in the field until harvest(丰收) time this fall. Jesse says it looks best when you see it from 4,000 to 6,000 feet up in the air.
Like this Kansas farmer, we all have unique skills. Maybe we can knit, craft, paint, or sing. When we use them with our whole heart for our loved ones, it speaks louder than any store-bought present ever could.
24. What inspired Jesse’s anniversary plan?
A. Sarah’s love for sunflowers. B. Reagan and Avery’s suggestion.
C. A chat with Lee Wilson’s daughter. D. What Lee Wilson did for his wife.
25. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. How Jesse kept his secret. B. Jesse’s struggles as a farmer.
C. Jesse’s top-level farming skills. D. How Jesse prepared the surprise.
26. How did Sarah feel after seeing the message?
A. Moved. B. Awkward. C. Confused. D. Regretful.
27. What does the author mainly want to tell us?
A. Many hands make light work. B. Great gifts come from the heart.
C. Unique skills take time to learn. D. Actions speak louder than words.

Dialects are a cultural resource and the collection of ordinary people’s wisdom. They promote the culture of a region. When an area’s dialect dies out, it means the failure of the local culture. Dialects are also an essential material to study the history of a country’s language and its evolution, making up for lack of documents.
According to UNESCO, nearly 7,000 languages and dialects worldwide are facing extinction (消亡), falling out of use at the rate of about one every two weeks. In China, there are over 120 languages at risk of extinction. More than half of them is spoken by fewer than 10,000 people.
Xu Kaifei, a new media journalist who has a 7-year-old son, finds that Hainanese is not being spoken by the younger generation: “Children do not use the dialect, and some can’t even understand it.” So, he started to teach his son the language word by word, uploading videos on social media platforms for viewers interested in Hainanese.
Due to education and work, where standard Chinese is used, many young people who spoke dialects have turned to standard Chinese. Some think speaking only a dialect is a barrier to finding jobs in cities, where standard Chinese is widely used. So, they stop using their native tongue. In many families, the parents guide the switch for their children.
To research dialects, Zhao Rixin, a professor studying dialects at the Beijing Language and Culture University, has visited over 100 places, mostly villages. “Villages are the best sites as their dialects are well preserved, thanks to the small-scale input of outsiders,” he said. His last survey was done in a village in Chengde, Hebei Province in north China, whose dialect is close to standard Chinese. “The dialects in north and northeast China have been better preserved than in other places”, he said. The dialects of northeast China are popular due to their culture, tradition and economic development. The development of the media and genres (类型) of art has also enhanced people’s pride in this region’s language.
28. Why are dialects considered valuable?
A. They are created by both the official and the folks.
B. They document the development of a country’s language.
C. They are mainly used in formal education systems.
D. They have been replaced by written documents in most regions.
29. Why was Xu Kaifei’s son mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To give an example of a child learning Hainanese.
B. To explain how social media spreads dialects.
C. To show younger generations’ dialect loss.
D. To highlight a parent’s effort to save dialect.
30. What does “the switch” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Speaking standard Chinese in big cities.
B. Speaking more dialects when finding jobs.
C. Taking seriously parents’ advice on language learning.
D. Giving up the native tongue for the standard Chinese.
31. What do Zhao Rixin’s words imply?
A. The northern dialects are popular and easier to understand.
B. Many local dialects are very similar to Standard Chinese.
C. Dialects are better preserved in areas with fewer outsiders.
D. Economic development in the north is faster than that in the south.
D
The remarkable travel and consumption figures recorded during the 2026 Qingming holiday have drawn widespread attention from economists, policymakers, and the media. With 840 million cross-regional passenger trips and 135 million domestic tourist trips, the holiday has become a vivid illustration of China’s strong domestic demand and the effective coordination between government policies and market vitality.
One of the most striking features of this year’s Qingming holiday was the simultaneous boom in multiple consumption sectors. While scenic spots and transportation hubs were packed with travelers, the film industry also celebrated a record-breaking box office. Over 3 million screenings were arranged nationwide, the highest ever for a Qingming holiday, and total box office revenue surpassed 300 million yuan. This shows that consumers are no longer satisfied with just travel; they seek a comprehensive leisure experience that combines sightseeing, entertainment, and cultural enrichment.
Behind the booming numbers lies a carefully designed policy environment. Weeks before the holiday, the Ministry of Transport had issued guidelines to enhance traffic capacity on major highways and railways. Local governments introduced measures such as half-price tickets for key scenic spots, extended museum opening hours, and improved parking facilities. In addition, the State Administration of Radio and Television encouraged cinemas to schedule more screenings of popular films to meet public demand. These proactive steps reduced travel friction and boosted consumer willingness to spend.
The holiday also highlighted a shift in consumption patterns. Compared with previous years, travelers showed a stronger preference for “experience-based” rather than “sight-seeing-only” trips. Cultural tourism, including visits to historical sites, museums, and folk custom events, gained particular popularity. In cities like Xi’an, Suzhou, and Luoyang, bookings for hanfu photo shoots and traditional craft workshops increased by over 150% year-on-year. This trend reflects a deepening cultural confidence among young consumers.
Moreover, the Qingming holiday consumption boom carries important implications for macroeconomic policy. Economists point out that stable job markets and rising household incomes have laid a solid foundation for consumption recovery. The strong holiday data may encourage the government to continue or even expand stimulus policies in the cultural tourism sector. Some experts have suggested introducing consumption vouchers for the May Day holiday to sustain the momentum.
However, challenges remain. The surge in travel volume put pressure on transport systems, with some highways experiencing long traffic jams and popular scenic spots reaching maximum capacity. Environmental concerns also arose, as waste disposal at some tourist sites became a problem. These issues remind policymakers that while stimulating consumption is important, infrastructure and environmental management must keep pace.
Overall, the 2026 Qingming holiday has demonstrated the powerful engine of China’s consumer market. It offers a glimpse into a future where holidays are not just breaks from work but vibrant drivers of economic and cultural life. As one tourism expert put it, “Every holiday is now a stress test for our economy — and Qingming 2026 has passed with flying colors.”
32. What does the passage say about the film industry during the 2026 Qingming holiday?
A. It performed worse than last year.
B. It set a record for the number of screenings and box office.
C. It only showed foreign films.
D. It was unaffected by travel patterns.
33. Which of the following measures is NOT mentioned as being taken by the government before the holiday?
A. Issuing guidelines to enhance traffic capacity.
B. Offering half‑price tickets for scenic spots.
C. Distributing free travel coupons to all citizens.
D. Encouraging cinemas to schedule more screenings.
34. What change in consumption patterns is observed during the 2026 Qingming holiday?
A. Travelers preferred sightseeing‑only trips.
B. Experience‑based cultural tourism became more popular.
C. Consumers spent less on entertainment.
D. Young people lost interest in traditional crafts.
35. What challenge does the passage mention regarding the holiday travel surge?
A. Lack of consumer interest.
B. Insufficient hotel rooms.
C. Traffic jams and waste disposal problems.
D. Government opposition to travel.
For a long time, I didn’t really think about waste. I would throw things away without asking where to put them. ____36____ Not just about throwing things away, but about what happens after that. That’s when I realised something surprising — there is no “away”. Everything we throw still exists somewhere.
At school, we began exploring this idea through our unit of inquiry (探究). We looked at how waste affects the environment, animals, and even people. I learned that plastic can take hundreds of years to break down. ____37____
That made me think about my own habits. I started noticing how often I used things just once and threw them away — the plastic spoons and extra paper I didn’t really need. Before, I felt it’s normal. ____38____ So I decided to try. I began with small things. For example, I tried to finish what’s on my plate so there would be less waste.
____39____ Sometimes I forget. Sometimes it’s more convenient just to throw something away. But now, at least, I think about it. And that makes a difference. One of the most interesting things I learned is that being “zero waste” doesn’t mean creating absolutely no waste at all. It means trying to reduce it as much as possible and making better choices every day.
It also made me realise that even small actions matter. If one person reduces a little waste, it may not seem like much. ____40____ I also spoke to my family about it. Now at home, we try to separate our waste and reuse things when we can. It feels good to know that what I learned in school is not just for school — it can change what we do every day.
A. However, it’s not always easy.
B. Do I really need to waste this?
C. Now, it feels like something I can change.
D. Sometimes it doesn’t fully disappear at all.
E. But if many people do the same thing, it adds up.
F. But recently, we started talking about waste in a different way in school.
G. We could track the food waste for one week and brainstorm ways to reduce it.

Max and Lily were brother and sister. They got along very well. But lately, their relationship was more like a battlefield. On Christmas Eve, there would be a talent show at their school. They signed up for the performance as a team. However, Lily wanted to sing her favorite pop song while Max preferred a rock band performance, in which he would show his guitar skills. Arguments flew like arrows, and their previously strong relationship was almost broken.
One evening, during separate practice, disaster struck. Lily accidentally knocked over Max’s cherished guitar gifted by their late grandfather. The guitar dropped onto the floor and one of its strings(弦) broke. Max’s face was red with anger. “You ruined it!” he shouted before storming out, leaving Lily trembling with guilt. The accident deepened their rift(裂痕), and for days, they avoided each other. With the show just a week away, their act remained disorganized and their performance was still a mess.
Their parents noticed the cold war between the brother and sister, and decided to step in. One night, their mother sat them down and shared stories about their grandfather — a musician who had always valued harmony and unity. She reminded them of the importance of working together and supporting each other. Her words struck a chord(和弦), and for the first time in days, Lily and Max exchanged uneasy looks.
注意:
1.续写词数应为120个左右;

D 25. D 26. A 27. B

B 29. C 30. D 31. C

根据原文第三段“Xu Kaifei, a new media journalist who has a 7-year-old son, finds that Hainanese is not being spoken by the younger generation: “Children do not use the dialect, and some can’t even understand it.”(有一个7岁儿子的新媒体记者徐开飞发现,年轻一代不再说海南话:“孩子们不用这种方言,有些甚至听不懂。”)”
根据原文第四段“Due to education and work, where standard Chinese is used, many young people who spoke dialects have turned to standard Chinese. Some think speaking only a dialect is a barrier to finding jobs in cities, where standard Chinese is widely used. So, they stop using their native tongue. In many families, the parents guide the switch for their children.(由于教育和工作中使用标准汉语,许多说方言的年轻人转向了标准汉语。一些人认为只说方言是在城市找工作的障碍,而标准汉语在城市被广泛使用。所以,他们停止使用母语。在许多家庭,父母引导孩子进行这种转变。)” 可知,“the switch”指的是放弃母语,转而使用标准汉语,故选D。
31. 推理判断题。根据原文第五段““Villages are the best sites as their dialects are well preserved, thanks to the small-scale input of outsiders,” he said.(他说:“乡村是最佳地点,因为这里的方言被完好地保存了下来,这得益于外来人员的少量涌入。”)”

F 37. D 38. C 39. A 40. E
36. 根据上文“For a long time, I didn’t really think about waste. I would throw things away without asking where to put them.(很长一段时间里,我都没有真正去思考过浪费的问题。我随意丢弃东西,却从不考虑该把它们放在哪里)”以及后文“Not just about throwing things away, but about what happens after that. That’s when I realised something surprising — there is no “away”.
37. 根据上文“At school, we began exploring this idea through our unit of inquiry (探究). We looked at how waste affects the environment, animals, and even people. I learned that plastic can take hundreds of years to break down.(在学校里,我们通过探究单元这一形式开始探讨这个话题。我们研究了废弃物对环境、动物以及人类的影响。我了解到塑料需要数百年才能分解)”可知,上文提到“塑料需要数百年才能分解”,D项“有时塑料甚至根本不会完全消失”顺承上文关于塑料难降解的描述,衔接自然。
38. 根据上文“That made me think about my own habits. I started noticing how often I used things just once and threw them away — the plastic spoons and extra paper I didn’t really need. Before, I felt it’s normal.(这让我开始反思自己的习惯。我开始留意自己是多么频繁地使用完某件物品后就将其丢弃——那些塑料勺子和多余的纸张,其实我并不真的需要它们。以前,我觉得这是很正常的)”以及后文“So I decided to try. I began with small things. For example, I tried to finish what’s on my plate so there would be less waste.(于是我就决定尝试一下。我先从小事做起。比如,我努力把盘子里的食物吃完,这样就能减少浪费了)”可知,上文说作者以前觉得一次性用品用后丢弃是正常的,下文说作者决定尝试做出改变,C项“现在,我觉得这是我可以改变的事情”正好衔接前后的态度转变。
39. 根据后文“Sometimes I forget. Sometimes it’s more convenient just to throw something away. But now, at least, I think about it. And that makes a difference. One of the most interesting things I learned is that being “zero waste” doesn’t mean creating absolutely no waste at all. It means trying to reduce it as much as possible and making better choices every day.(有时我会忘记。
40. 根据上文“It also made me realise that even small actions matter. If one person reduces a little waste, it may not seem like much.(这也让我意识到,即使是小小的行动也很重要。如果一个人能减少一点点废弃物,那看起来可能并不起眼)”以及后文“I also spoke to my family about it. Now at home, we try to separate our waste and reuse things when we can. It feels good to know that what I learned in school is not just for school — it can change what we do every day.(我还和家人谈了这件事。现在在家,我们努力将垃圾进行分类,并在可能的情况下重复利用物品。知道在学校学到的东西不仅适用于学校本身,还能改变我们日常生活中的行为,这种感觉真好)”可知,上文说“一个人减少一点垃圾,看起来没什么影响”,E项“但如果很多人都这么做,就会积少成多”转折呼应上文,也引出下文作者带动家人一起行动的内容,符合语境。

The Spring Festival
Last Spring Festival, I spent the happy time at my Chinese pen pal Li Hua’s home. I really had a wonderful experience.
Before the festival, Li Hua's family put up Spring Festival couplets and set off firecrackers to welcome the new year. On New Year’s Eve, all the family members got together to have a big dinner and stayed up late for the coming of the new year. During the festival, we wore new clothes, visited relatives and friends to say “Happy New Year”, and also went to the temple fair to enjoy the fun.

注意:
1.续写词数应为120个左右;

Lily took a deep breath and slowly approached Max. “Max, I’m really sorry about the guitar,” she said, her voice trembling slightly. “I know how much it means to you, and I didn’t mean to ruin it.” Max looked up, his anger starting to fade. “It’s okay,” he said, his voice softer. “I was just really upset at the time. But Mom’s right, we should work together. What do you think about combining our ideas for the performance?” Lily’s eyes lit up. “That’s a great idea! We could sing my pop song while you play the guitar, just like our grandfather used to do.”
On the night of the talent show, Max and Lily stepped onto the stage together. Lily’s voice was sweet and clear, while Max’s guitar playing was skillful and passionate. When they finished, the audience erupted in applause. It was clear that their hard work had paid off, and their relationship was stronger than ever. As they walked off the stage, they hugged tightly, knowing that they had overcome their differences and learned an important lesson about teamwork and family.
