In a world where access to books is often limited by socio-economic barriers, Jane, a dedicated street librarian, is on a mission to change that. Her journey began when she chanced upon a small, makeshift library in a low-income neighborhood run by volunteers. Inspired by their dedication, Jane decided to create a mobile library to reach even more people.
With the help of a few friends and a donated shuttle, Jane transformed her vision into a reality. She scoured (逛) thrift stores and garage sales to fill her mobile library with a diverse range of titles, from classics to contemporary bestsellers. Soon, her library, “Storybook Maze,” became a familiar sight across the city. She parked her shuttle in areas with limited access to traditional libraries, such as public housing projects and homeless shelters. As word spread, people from all walks of life began to flock to her van.
For many, Storybook Maze was more than just a place to borrow books — it was a symbol of hope and inclusiveness. Jane made a conscious effort to fill books that reflected the diversity of her community, ensuring that readers could see themselves in the stories. The impact was far-reaching: children who had never held a book before were now racing through entire series, and adults were rediscovering the joy of reading.
However, the journey was not without challenges. Jane faced disbelief from those who doubted the feasibility (可行性) of a mobile library and struggled to find stable funding. Nonetheless, her determination only grew stronger. She recruited volunteers, applied for grants (拨款), and partnered with local organizations to keep the project alive. Today, Storybook Maze is a beloved institution, reminding everyone that a book has the power to change a life.
4. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Why Jane offered help to the poor. B. How Jane got Storybook Maze running.
C. How Jane collected books for the project. D. Who Jane’s mobile library targeted.
5. What can be inferred about the books Jane chose for the library?
A. They focus on local people’s lives. B. They aim to make money for the project.
C. They mainly include classical works. D. They get readers deeply involved.
6. What major obstacle did Jane have to overcome?
A. Lack of government support. B. Unstable funding and public doubt.
C. Non-cooperation from local organizations. D. Shortage of volunteers and grants.
7. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Digital Age: the lasting power of reading B. Public Libraries: modern challenges
C. Storybook Maze: books and hopes D. Community Hearts: the value of dedication
C
Shared mobility services — such as e-scooters, bike-sharing, and ride-hailing (叫车) apps — have caught on in big cities, promising cheap and easy ways to get around. Yet they often fail to serve everyone equally, remaining largely inaccessible to the elderly, the disabled, or those without smartphones or credit cards.
Sure, shared mobility could be a game-changer for greener cities when well integrated with public transport. But to really make a difference, it has to include us all. The reality, though, is far from equal. For example, a 2019 study of 10 US cities showed that white neighborhoods have access to almost three times as many carshare locations and twice as many bikeshare locations nearby as African Americans. Low-income people face barriers like cost, lack of technology, and unfamiliarity.
So, what’s being done to bridge this gap? Cities and nonprofits are stepping in. Some have launched subsidy (补贴) programs, and many service providers now accept cash and non-smartphone options. Programs like Mobitwin in Belgium provide volunteer-driven rides for the elderly, while carsharing services in Austria ensure wheelchair-friendly vehicles and child seats are available.
But some groups are taking a different track. Take Shared Mobility Inc. in Buffalo: they help set up e-bike libraries where the bikes are free to use, and they’re based right in trusted community centers. More than that, they run training sessions, group rides and workshops to make cycling part of everyday life in the neighborhood.
Mobility is a crucial part of social participation, and reduced mobility is closely linked to social isolation (孤立) and loneliness, says Esen Köse, project manager at Mpact, a Belgian mobility nongovernmental organization. “We want to make sure that people often excluded from the societal cycle still have an option to get out and do simple daily things.”
The next time you see an e-scooter passing by, ask not if it’s convenient, but if it’s for everyone. Convenience for some is not progress for all.
8. What is the problem with shared mobility services?
A. High expenses. B. More emissions.
C. Unequal access. D. Poor management.
9. How are cities and organizations addressing the problem?
A. By cutting service prices. B. By limiting services to city centers.
C. By adapting to user needs. D. By increasing the number of vehicles.
10. What is the main purpose of e-bike libraries?
A. To train professional cyclists. B. To supply free bikes for group rides.
C. To generate profit for communities. D. To integrate cycling into community life.
11. What might Esen Köse agree with?
A. Mobility is vital to people’s social health. B. Mobility is a luxury instead of a necessity.
C. Shared mobility guarantees social inclusion. D. Shared mobility fuels isolation and loneliness.
D
The workplace can be a tricky place to handle. Almost everything employees do at work — identifying the experts, managing tough feedback, or working in teams — comes down to their ability to manage relationships, which requires practical social skills. While most employees acquire these skills over time, the newest generation — Gen Z — is facing a “perfect storm” that leaves them miserably unprepared.
Through a combination of fewer real-world experiences and years of remote education, many 20-somethings have missed opportunities to develop the complex skills needed for work. The result is that many are unprepared for surviving in their jobs. Young employees often struggle to fit into organizations, leading to high turnover because those who don’t adjust don’t last long. If this trend continues, experts warn of a “leadership pipeline” crisis where a generation remains incapable of either collaborating or leading. This deficit (缺乏) not only fuels early turnover but also risks creating a long-term underclass.
Several factors have created this crisis. First, only 56% of Gen Z make it to adulthood having had a romantic relationship, compared to 75% for previous generations. Such early relationships teach basic social competencies like cooperation and forgiveness. Second, the dominance of online education means students learn in “workplace-adjacent” environments less often. In physical classrooms, students learn how to network and ask for feedback — norms that are easily lost in video calls. Finally, relying on digital messaging makes Gen Z anxious when faced with instant, face-to-face interactions or unexpected demands from a boss.
To address this, companies should change their communication strategies to be clear and direct. Leaders should develop expressed rules to reduce the “guessing game”. Instead of assuming new hires understand organizational norms, managers should make them specific, perhaps by sharing a list of team habits with every new joiner. Moreover, regular team rotations (轮换) can also accelerate social learning by exposing Gen Z to diverse communication norms.
12. What’s the function of the first paragraph?
A. To give the definition. B. To analyze the cause.
C. To present a problem. D. To make a contrast.
13. What is one direct result of Gen Z’s weak interpersonal skills at work?
A. They cannot get cooperative jobs. B. They just ignore bosses’ feedback.
C. They struggle to fit into workplaces. D. They refuse to work in teams.
14. Why does the author mention “romantic relationships” in Paragraph 3?
A. To show Gen Z’s emotional sensitivity. B. To show their impact on social skills.
C. To stress the influence of modern dating. D. To encourage romantic bonding.
15. What does the author advise companies to do for Gen Z?
A. Make team rules and norms clear. B. Avoid direct face-to-face demands.
C. Offer relationship improvement courses. D. Specify means of communication.

My name is Mae. I’ve always been passionate about exploring and solving problems — whether fixing a broken toy or figuring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school’s Coding (编程) Club. In our first lesson, Ms. Davis told us that coding is more than writing lines of code. It is about using technology to make life easier for others.
“Your project,” she announced in class one day, “is to create a simple app that solves a real-life problem.” “You have one week to prepare,” she added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find inspiration and finish the project.
The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor Mrs. Thompson’s apartment after school. She had invited me for tea, as she often did on Tuesdays. Mrs. Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately she had been a little forgetful, often misplacing her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing it. When I arrived, she was in the kitchen.
“Mae! Good timing,” she greeted me warmly, and then stopped, glancing at the kettle. “Did I already boil water for tea?”
I checked the kettle — it was still warm. We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were chatting. Our conversation turned to her weekly book club with friends. Mrs. Thompson smiled, talking about her two old friends. Mr. Brown arrived late for the game, and Mrs. Smith failed to bring her glasses twice. “We’re quite a group,” she said.
Then her expression grew thoughtful. “We manage, of course. But sometimes I think wouldn’t it be nice if something simply reminds us? Take medicine. Water the plants. Friday for book club.” She tapped her head with a soft laugh.
Her words sank in. At that moment, an idea formed in my mind. As I stood up to leave, I smiled mysteriously, “Give me a few days, and I’ll bring you a little surprise.”
“Oh? I’ll try not to forget that,” she laughed.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】8. C 9. C 10. D 11. A

推理判断题。根据第五段“Mobility is a crucial part of social participation, and reduced mobility is closely linked to social isolation (孤立) and loneliness(出行是社会参与的重要组成部分,出行不便与社交孤立、孤独感密切相关)”可知,Esen Köse认为出行不便与社交孤立、孤独感密切相关,可推理出Esen Köse认为出行能力对人们的社交健康至关重要。
【答案】12. C 13. C 14. B 15. A

【答案】例文
Dear Peter,
I’m excited to hear you’re interested in being a volunteer. Between the two choices, I strongly suggest signing up for the calligraphy competition volunteer program!
For one thing, you’ll help hand out rice paper, brushes and ink, which enables you to observe the beauty of traditional Chinese brushwork. For another, as you stand by the contestants to assist them, you’ll naturally pick up some basic skills. Above all, the judges will comment on the works, allowing you to have a glimpse into how to appreciate this form of Chinese culture.
Volunteering for the calligraphy competition is definitely a perfect way to enrich your exchange life! Looking forward to hearing your decision!
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节(满分 25 分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】 That night, I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details. I decided to design a gentle reminder app especially for the elderly. I listed simple functions: important dates, daily tasks, and warm notes. I focused on making the words big and the buttons easy to touch. Whenever I felt stuck, I thought of Mrs. Thompson’s kind smile and her wish for something to help her remember. I carefully tested every part again and again, making sure it was simple and helpful. Deep in my heart, I hoped this little app could bring convenience and warmth to her and more elderly people.
A week later, I presented my project to Ms. Davis. I introduced the app’s purpose and showed how it worked. Ms. Davis praised my thoughtful idea and spoke highly of my project. After class, I brought the app to Mrs. Thompson. She was delighted and tried it at once. “This is exactly what I need,” she said happily. Watching her smile, I truly understood what Ms. Davis had meant: coding is not just code, but a way to use technology to care for others.
