After a booming summer season, the tourism market has seen an upsurge (激增) in both the supply and demand sides, especially because the coinciding (重合) of Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day resulted in an “eight-day Golden Week” holiday.
Before the holiday, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism took multiple measures to enhance the quality of cultural and tourism products, such as improving products on the theme of family reunion. For the benefit of businesses and the public, it has extended financial support for “cultural and tourism consumption action plan” in a hundred cities and districts which provides consumer subsidies (补贴), ticket discounts.
The tourism industry saw an explosive upsurge during the eight-day holiday. The railways, before the holiday, said they expected to record about 190 million passenger trips. The airlines, on the other hand, expected more than 21 million passenger trips during the holiday.
And Ctrip reported more than a four times increase in domestic hotel searches compared with the same period in 2022 and 120 percent more than the 2019 holiday season. Also, long-distance travel and family trips remained popular choices while cultural performances and museums drew more young tourists.
The relaxation of traveling abroad has created favorable conditions for the recovery of the foreign tourism sector. In August, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the group tourism to 78 countries, including Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the United States, raising the total number of such countries to 138.
Yet the surge in the tourism market is both a blessing and a challenge for tourist spots. Overcrowding in scenic spots, difficulty in obtaining tickets for certain attractions and museums, potential risks, and unsatisfying tourism services are still common. To address these challenges, we propose the following.
4. What did the Ministry of Culture and Tourism do to promote tourism industry?
A. To provide budget-friendly options for people.
B. To launch more cultural and tourism products.
C. To create more business opportunities for the public.
D. To make a cultural and tourism consumption action plan.
5. What can be learned from Ctrip’s report?
A. People are willing to travel abroad.
B. More people book hotels through the Internet.
C. A day trip with friends is still preferred by people.
D. The cultural tour is gaining popularity among the youth.
6. Which is probable the author’s attitude toward the upsurge in the tourism market?
A. Approving. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Critical.
7. What will the following passage talk about?
A. The challenges tourism market will face.
B. The features that mark the eight-day holiday.
C. The confidence in the tourism industry’s future.
D. The suggestions of enhancing visitors’ experience.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games concluded on Aug 11, showcasing the impressive talents of China’s Generation Z athletes across various sports. While they embodied the Olympic motto of “Faster, Higher, Stronger — Together”, there has been a shift in perspectives on winning as a recognition of the true essence of the Olympic spirit.
Since the beginning of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, many exciting and unforgettable moments have been shared by athletes and audiences worldwide. We have cheered for victories and comforted those who fell short. But beyond the triumphs and defeats, there is something more to admire.
On Aug 4, 21-year-old Zheng Qinwen made history for Chinese tennis by winning the first gold medal in women’s singles for both China and Asia. Just the following day, the young Chinese swimming team ended the US’s decades long unbeaten period in the men’s 4x100m relay, finishing in 3 minutes and 27. 46 seconds. By winning gold medals in events once dominated by Western athletes, these young competitors have demonstrated a remarkable improvement in China’s competitive sports landscape.
Equally inspiring is the positive mindset exhibited by these young athletes. They are confident and inclusive, striving for excellence and breakthrough performances. Moreover, they have moved away from the “gold medal only” mentality, embracing a more composed and rational (理性的) approach to sports. From 18-year-old BMX freestyle cyclist Deng Yawen to 26-year-old swimmer Zhang Yufei, many young athletes have attracted global audiences with their self-assured approach to competition. They genuinely enjoy competing. When Zhang, China’s “butterfly queen”, missed out on a gold medal, she said, “I hope this time I can have a relaxed attitude and really enjoy the Olympics.”
This shift in mindset and demeanor has moved the public focus away from just winning gold medals to appreciating the respect and glory that athletes and the Olympics truly deserve. Success is the goal, but they remain equally graceful in the face of failure, embodying the deep integration of Chinese values with the Olympic spirit. It’s not just about being faster, higher, stronger, but also about embracing sports with a positive attitude.
8. What does the underlined phrase mean in paragraph 2?
A. Fell behind. B. Made outstanding advances.
C. Attained success. D. Failed to meet expectations.
9. The 2024 Paris Olympic Games is inspiring, except _________.
A. Young athletes made determination to just win gold medals
B. Young competitor displayed positive and confident mindset
C. Young competitors improved a lot in China’s competitive sports
D. Young athletes attracted global audience with confident approach
10. Why does the author mention Zhang Yufei in paragraph 4?
A. To emphasize the importance of the Paris Olympic Games.
B. To praise athletes’ relaxed mindset in Paris Olympic Games.
C. To prove athletes’ good performance in Paris Olympic Games.
D. To show Zhang’s regret for losing a gold medal in Paris Olympic Games.
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Chinese athletes achieved great success in Paris Olympic Games.
B. Chinese athletes embraced Olympic Games with a positive attitude.
C. Chinese athletes displayed impressive talents in Paris Olympic Games.
D. Chinese athletes embodied the Olympic motto in Paris Olympic Games.

Life in the Clear
Transparent animals let light pass through their bodies the same way light passes through a window. These animals typically live between the surface of the ocean and a depth of about 3,300 feet---as far as most light can reach. Most of them are extremely delicate and can be damaged by a simple touch. Sonke Johnsen, a scientist in biology, says, “These animals live through their life alone. They never touch anything unless they’re eating it, or unless something is eating them.”
And they are as clear as glass. How does an animal become see-through? It s trickier than you might think.
The objects around you are visible because they interact with light. Light typically travels in a straight line. But some materials slow and scatter (散射) light, bouncing it away from its original path. Others absorb light, stopping it dead in its tracks. Both scattering and absorption make an object look different from other objects around it, so you can see it easily.
But a transparent object doesn’t absorb or scatter light, at least not very much. Light can pass through it without bending or stopping. That means a transparent object doesn’t look very different from the surrounding air or water. You don’t see it you see the things behind it.
To become transparent, an animal needs to keep its body from absorbing or scattering light. Living materials can stop light because they contain pigments (色素) that absorb specific colors of light. But a transparent animal doesn’t have pigments, so its tissues won’t absorb light. According to Johnsen, avoiding absorption is actually easy. The real challenge is preventing light from scattering.
Animals are built of many different materials---skin, fat, and more---and light moves through each at a different speed. Every time light moves into a material with a new speed, it bends and scatters. Transparent animals use different tricks to fight scattering. Some animals are simply very small or extremely flat. Without much tissue to scatter light, it is easier to be see-through. Others build a large, clear mass of non-living jelly-like (果冻状的) material and spread themselves over it.
Larger transparent animals have the biggest challenge, because they have to make all the different tissues in their bodies slow down light exactly as much as water does. They need to look uniform. But how they’re doing it is still unknown. One thing is clear: for these larger animals, staying transparent is an active process. When they die, they turn a non-transparent milky white.
12. According to Paragraph 1,transparent animals .
A. stay in groups B. can be easily damaged
C. appear only in deep ocean D. are beautiful creatures
13. The underlined word “dead” in Paragraph 3 means .
A. silently B. gradually
C. regularly D. completely
14. One way for an animal to become transparent is to .
A. change the direction of light travel B. gather materials to scatter light
C. avoid the absorption of light D. grow bigger to stop light
15. The last paragraph tells us that larger transparent animals .
A. move more slowly in deep water
B. stay see-through even after death
C. produce more tissues for their survival
D. take effective action to reduce light spreading

B. Young competitor displayed positive and confident mindset

【答案】12. B 13. D 14. C 15. D

【导语】本文是篇说明文。介绍了如何处理网上的负面评论。
【16题详解】
分析设空,空处位于首段段尾,应是承上启下的作用,根据前文“But sometimes, if you post a video online and your video becomes popular, you may get comments from people who will always find something to complain about. They may spread gossip (流言蜚语) about you that isn’t true. Negative comments, if they are mishandled, can affect your reputation and mood. (但有时候,如果你在网上发布了一个视频,你的视频变得很受欢迎,你可能会收到一些人的评论,他们总是会找到一些抱怨的地方。他们可能会散布关于你的不真实的流言蜚语。消极的评论,如果处理不当,会影响你的声誉和情绪)”可知,本文主要讲述如何处理网上的负面评论,所以B项“Then how should we deal with negative comments? (那么我们应该如何处理负面评论呢?)”符合文意,是前文的总结,并通过提问引出下文。故选B项。
【17题详解】
根据前文“First, respond positively and politely. Some people like your video while others don’t. No matter how negative the comment is, it’s best for you to give a positive and polite response. (首先,积极礼貌地回应。有些人喜欢你的视频,而有些人则不喜欢。不管评论有多负面,你最好给出一个积极而礼貌的回应)”可知G项“This shows that you care about everyone else on your social media page. (这表明你关心你的社交媒体页面上的其他人)”是对前文的总结,符合文意。故选G项。
【18题详解】
根据前文“Next, moving the conversation out of the public eye and into a private area is usually the best choice. (其次,将谈话转移到公众视线之外的私人领域通常是最好的选择)”以及后文“Instead, leave a comment for them, asking them to contact you to discuss the problem privately. (相反,给他们留言,让他们联系你私下讨论这个问题)”可知,空处应是对前文进一步说明,并和后文构成转折,所以E项“However, don’t send a direct message to the negative comment makers. (但是,不要直接给负面评论的制造者发信息)”符合文意,对前文进一步说明,并和后文构成转折。故选E项。
【19题详解】
根据前文“Finally, don’t reply if they try to start an argument. Often, keyboard warriors (键盘侠) are feeling bad about something in their own lives. (最后,如果他们试图开始争论,不要回答。通常,键盘侠会对自己生活中的某些事情感到难过)”以及后文“Avoid being negatively influenced by their comments. You totally have the right to delete anything that should not be on your social media page.(避免被他们的评论负面影响。你完全有权利删除任何不应该出现在你的社交媒体页面上的东西)”可知,空处应是过渡句,所以C项“So keep it in mind that their comments have nothing to do with you. (所以请记住,他们的评论与你无关)”符合本段主题,对前文的总结并引出下文。故选C项。
【20题详解】
分析设空,位于段首,应是本段的中心句,根据后文“Just laugh them off and let them go. You can’t control what other people do. All you can do is keep posting and sharing positive things. When others can see that you are still living a good life, they will be encouraged by you. (一笑了之,让他们走吧。你不能控制别人做什么。你所能做的就是继续发布和分享积极的事情。当别人看到你仍然过着美好的生活时,他们会受到你的鼓励)”可知,本段在讲述如何从社交媒体上的负面评论中恢复过来,所以D项“How do you recover from those negative comments on social media? (你如何从社交媒体上的负面评论中恢复过来?)”符合文意。故选D项。
